Chapter 11 A normal day (Part 4)

Flaky sobbed uncontrollably as she hid her face in shame. With her head hung low, she clutched her science books to her chest as she treaded away from everyone else. That was one advantage for being an outcast; no one noticed her as she passed by. Just moments ago, she had ceased crying and all evidence was hidden except for that desperate look of yearning in her eyes screaming help. The burning in her throat was unbearable, and she was sure she would break further when she reached her next class. Thankfully, just as she was about to turn the knob already envisioning the worst possible scenarios, an announcement blared from the speakers saying that Mr. Sniffles had been injured from one of his "creations". Not much detail was given, but with a lively imagination like Flaky's, it wasn't hard to guess what happened. Flaky sighed in relief thanking life for at least letting her live a little longer. Suicide was no longer an option, since she had a vow to carry on.

Making her way to the cafeteria, she could see herself back then.

*Flashy back times!*

A little red porcupine could be seen running through the fields. As she laughed and giggled rolling on a patch of daisies, she suddenly stopped when she noticed a child not too far away. Leaning closer, she could see the child was younger than she was, and another step took her to the child's face. The young girl was breathing her last dying breath and her eyes were flickering out faster than a flame in a wind storm. Quietly, the girl mouthed her final words: "Avenge them".

Flaky had not understood back then, but now she did. Every day, she brought flowers to the graves of dead children and orphans. She made it her task to find the bodies of kids and bury them. If she was lucky, she was able get them a nice little epitaph. She took her excess food and fed the orphans. Such a noble soul did not deserve to live like this, in the shadows of others. But the world was a cruel place, and she was constantly reminded every day.

As Flaky trudged on waiting for the long line-up to progress, everyone else was already residing at a table chatting with their peers. Amongst all of them, the popular kids and the others stood out. Today, the pops thought it'd be cool to dress all in purple as tribute to their leader, Tiffany who absolutely loved purple. Unfortunately, someone intercepted their messages and they all came out as a rainbow. Being popular, they quickly made up some story about "the rainbow of friendship" that didn't save them and now Tiffany was chatting with the others.

Flaky had overheard the gossip all around the school; another upper hand to being a lonesome girl in a box of uneven socks; not everyone had a pair, but those without a pair drift aimlessly around awaiting their day of recognition. Finally, the line moved as Flaky was two spots away from her lunch. Her stomach encouraged faster movement and currently, was the only thing on her mind. When she was about to step up for her lunch, a familiar voice called out, "Flaky! Come here!" the sound rebounded of the wall booming all around like basketballs bouncing off the wall. At least that was the Flaky version. In reality, it was just as loud as the sound of hands clapping.

Swiftly, Flaky ushered a thank you to the lunch lady and took her ham and cheese sandwich as she prepared to enter the lair of the vicious dragon Splendon't. Lately, Splendon't had hurt her more often than usual causing the principle to change his mind. He said that if this kept up, they would have to start "hanging out" and doing "cooperative activities" which was really just a load of crap.

Sighing, the young heroine walked begrudgingly towards doomsday. When doomsday was just over the horizon, a sudden chain of events saved her.

Cliff hanger!

No, JK. Thanks for the views! I'd never leave you guys on a hanger (or would I?...)

A girl her age tripped over a foot with her lunch tray in hand as a mischievous snicker was heard in the background. Her lunch went flying across the room as it landed on the back of Super S. All the spectators gasped in shock like they were watching an intense game of baseball and the girl had almost reached home run... To a death sentence. Suddenly, all sense snapped back as the room became a flurry of students screaming in panic and desperation as they rebounded off each other. In just seconds, Flaky was the only one there. She gulped. Her legs felt heavier than stone bricks. Run, you idiot! A voice in her mind shouted; but it was too late. Splendon't would beat her into a pulp in seconds even if she ran. Locked in place, Flaky awaited her impending doom. The girl raised her arms up protectively in front of herself in case he tried anything, and her eyes clenched shut as she fought back tears. After a moment of undisturbed silence, she allowed her defenses to fall as her hands slithered back to her sides.

Ever so slowly, Splendon't shifted in place until he faced Flaky. With her eyes down cast, the porcupine felt as if the figure in front of her was daring her to look up. Suspense burning with fuel, she finally relented and succumbed. Looking up, she saw a strained smile on Splendon't as he waved goodbye and dashed out of the room leaving her all alone again. His eyes had a totally different story as to what would happen next. They were vicious, filled to the brim with revenge. They needed vengeance. Now.

Sorry for the long wait, but I hope this is long enough!
