Chapter 10
Bubbles originally intended for her discovery to be revealed at the next meeting, but unfortunately, due to the complaints of another, Bubbles was discovered early.
Blossom was impatient to get in the shower while Bubbles was gone, but as the water beat the tub endlessly, the eldest Powerpuff Girl had finally had enough! She barged into the bathroom forcefully, only to find an empty shower, and another trick had been played upon her, and the family.
Infuriated by the deceiving nature of her youngest sister, Blossom turned off the shower, and stormed out of the room to confront Bubbles herself. However, the young sister didn't return for many hours. Anger began to pile up on Blossom's mind as she sat in the living room waiting for Bubbles to return.
Eventually, Buttercup became involved in the accusation, and when Bubbles finally did enter the house, the peace she so longed for was now brutally destroyed once she saw the look on her sister's faces.
"Oh…umm, hi guys! How's it going? Umm, sorry bout leav'in the shower running. Heh heh, I better go fix that…..Good night!" Bubbles stuttered.
Eagerly, she flashed off to the upper level, but Buttercup and Blossom beat her before Bubbles could avoid their wrath.
"Not so fast," Buttercup ordered.
"What do you think you're doing, running off like that?" Blossom scolded.
"I was…just trying to…"
"Bubbles, you can't just leave without telling us! Haven't we already talked about this?"
"Maybe…"
"Then why are we having it again? You wasted all the hot water in our house, and worried us half to death! You're lucky the Professor didn't find out about this."
"But I found a weakness for the Rowdypunk boys!"
The mood of Bubbles' sisters slowly began to change as they absorbed the importance of Bubbles' discovery.
"Wait, what?" Buttercup finally inserted.
"I saw them today at town, and I figured out one of their weaknesses."
"What is it?" Blossom and Buttercup demanded in unison.
"I can't tell you. You'll have to wait until tomorrow."
The next day, the meeting Bubbles planned on didn't exactly go the way she expected. The boys were very inattentive in her explanation, besides Boomer, who was more than anxious to have their story retold. Blossom and Buttercup still seemed to be unhappy about the conference Bubbles failed to mention to them, but even after hearing Bubbles unearthing, they seemed to be very unenthusiastic about it.
"Bubbles," Blossom interrupted. "Just because Bash got distracted from the dirt in his eyes, doesn't mean it's his weakness."
"But remember today when I did the same thing to Blade? He didn't even flinch!"
"Our point exactly," Buttercup broke in. "Just because it worked once, doesn't mean it'll work again."
"Maybe it only works for Bash," Boomer recommended.
"Yeah," Bubbles agreed. "Maybe he's allergic to dust or something!"
"Well," Blossom began. "I guess we'll never know until we try…again."
"What?" Brick objected. "We can't just run around after these guys and kick dirt in their faces to see if they sneeze!"
"Well, what other choice do we have, Brick?" Blossom inquired in agitation.
"I say we hit 'em where it hurts! And fight them until we find their weakness!" Buttercup volunteered.
"Sounds good to me," Butch agreed.
"We could do that," Blossom considered. "Though it would take a while."
"Well, we need to figure it out someway," Butch murmured. "And we're not gonna figure it out standing around."
"We could use what we've learned from fighting in setting up our attack," Bubbles reminded.
"And there's still the possibility that we'd defeat them while trying," Buttercup added.
"Well, I guess it'll work. What do you think Brick?" Blossom asked, while turning to her fellow leader. Brick gawked at her with one eye brow raised in confusion.
"Hey," Blossom defended. "I have to have your say on this, too yah know."
"I know, I know!" Brick replied coldly. "And it's fine with me."
"Ok, I guess that's the end of this meeting," Blossom concluded. "We'll meet tomorrow at the same time. Remember to keep an eye out for any sudden weaknesses. We can start on our actual attack plan as soon as we figure them out."
After Blossom finished her departing words, the meeting was adjourned, and the six children went their separate ways.
Considering nobody could think of another way, most of the meetings carried on the same way they had. The Powerpuff Girls would fight the Rowdypunk boys during the day, as much as they could, while secretly trying to discover their weaknesses.
The Rowdyruff boys agreed to pitch in with this seemingly hopeless attempt, and tried to ward off the Rowdypunk boys while gathering as much information as they could. Though the groups lost every time, they were determined to find out as much as they could for their trap.
The gatherings were held every evening like always, where the three girls and boys poured as much experience as they knew. Once the meeting was over, Bubbles and Boomer would stay behind and discuss the recent events before leaving. This was mostly done to make sure the meetings were kept in check, but it easily became Bubbles favorite part of the meetings.
She learned over time that Boomer was truly her favorite boy to interact with. She enjoyed talking to him the most, and they seemed to agree on the same things. He made her laugh almost all the time, and Bubbles couldn't find company quite like his.
"Wow, you really destroyed that whole disco ball by yourself?" Boomer wondered with admiration.
"Well," Bubbles clarified. "I did have my sisters' help!"
"Coooooool! Umm, I mean, that's pretty impressive…for a girl."
"The best part about it is that I conquered me fears, even though it was scary."
"Well, I'm not scared of anything!" Boomer affirmed.
"Really?" Bubbles asked mischievously, while thinking of all the ways they defeated the Rowdyruff boys.
"Nope!"
"Ok," she smiled. "Just making sure. Well, I think everything is going pretty well so far," Bubbles continued cheerfully. "Blossom and Brick are working together a lot better than before, and Buttercup and Butch seem to talk more to each other than anyone else!"
Bubbles took a minute to let Boomer agree on her statement before continuing. "I think they have a lot in common!"
"Yeah, maybe too much in common," Boomer jeered. "They both like the same things, and they act the same way."
"I think they could be really good friends if they'd just open up to each other. I wish they weren't so stubborn sometimes," Bubbles sighed. Boomer looked at Bubbles with a puzzled expression.
"I mean I know they couldn't be friends anyways, but they might work together more…"
"Yeah. So what do you think of Bruise's weakness?"
"It's sort of weird. You wouldn't think something so simple like sensitive hearing would be much of a problem. Especially for these boys."
"Well, Bash's weakness is getting stuff in his eyes."
"True…hehe, didn't you say that when you were fighting the boys, you found out Bruise's weakness by dropping a car next to him?" Bubbles giggled.
"Yup," Boomer replied proudly. "I just picked it up, and tried to hit him with it."
"But how did you know he didn't like the noise?" Bubbles marveled.
"'Cause when the car crashed next to him, he tried to fly up after me, but the sound was so loud he stayed where he was and covered his ears."
"Well, maybe he should just get some earplugs!"
"Haha, after we beat them with our awesome trap!"
"Yeah, if we ever start the trap, and I'll remember to try that noise thing on Bruise tomorrow," Bubbles assured.
"Awesome! Now all we need to figure out is Blade's weakness…"
"That's gonna be a tough one…Uh-oh! It's getting dark. I need to go home now."
"Wait, already?" Boomer questioned with a sudden spark of disappointment.
"I have to. My sisters will be suspicious if I don't."
"Umm…ok, hey Bubbles?" Boomer recalled.
"Yeah?" Bubbles answered with full attention.
"Err…never mind. I'll see you tomorrow." Boomer answered, while rubbing the gravel on the roof with his foot.
"Oh…ok, you too!" Bubbles murmured, while looking at him kindly. She was trying to hide her disappointment, until suddenly, Bubbles had an idea.
The young hero changed her direction, and floated slowly over to Boomer, who was still perched on the roof.
"Not scared of anything, huh?" She whispered. Quickly, Bubbles kissed Boomer softly on the cheek, and immediately, flew off towards the house.
Completely captivated by the past interactions she encountered with the boys, Bubbles found it funny how only a week ago, she was complete adversaries with the Rowdyruff boys. Now they were working together to destroy a certain evil, and a little more.
It was truly remarkable!...at least for Bubbles. She giggled to herself when she thought about the act she just displayed, and how stunned Boomer must have felt. Finally, Bubbles erased the thought from her mind as she approached her abode, and landed at the front door to enter casually.
Bubbles floated upstairs as if nothing had happened, and greeted her sisters before any questions could be asked. Everyone gathered on the bed to discuss their past encounters.
"You know, this whole working together with the boys thing hasn't actually been that bad," Blossom started.
"You know, I hate to admit it, but I think I agree with you," Buttercup announced. "Butch is pretty awesome. We had a spitting contest today after the meeting, and I totally beat him! We're having a rematch tomorrow."
"Yeah," Blossom chuckled. "I saw you guys doing that, and Brick isn't all that arrogant. He's sort of annoying and completely stupid at sometimes, but most of his ideas aren't totally irrational. In fact, most of his strategies are pretty profound."
"And Boomer is nice!" Bubbles inserted, blushing inwardly to herself. Suddenly, a small spark of hope flickered inside of Bubbles, and became strong enough for her to ask one sudden question.
"So, if you guys could, do you think that you would ever be friends with the Rowdyruff boys?"
Buttercup and Blossom stared at Bubbles with astonishment, and for a minute, both of them looked like they were going to answer with a positive response. However, that look didn't last long. Overwhelmed with the reminder of the boys' delinquency, their answer was manipulated by their past experience as enemies.
"Are you kidding!" Buttercup scoffed. "The day I was friends with those jerks is the day I would swallow my shoe!"
"And never in my life would I want to go out of my time to see Brick! Gross!"
"Oh, ok." Bubbles responded softly, with her heart sinking down to her feet. "I guess I wouldn't either. Well, I think I'm going to go to bed now. Good night," the young hero muttered. After crawling under the covers, Bubbles hugged her stuffed octopus miserably, with her last hope for staying with Boomer completely crushed by her sisters' unaware disapproval.
