Chapter 10

Upon stepping onto the island, she spotted a whispers agent fully armored and Asura. She knew the entrance was right there if she only looked carefully. As she made her way over she abruptly stopped, her eyes wide with fear. There was a group of what looked to be people but dead, undead to be exact. What happened to them? Rotted flesh, no lips on their faces so only yellow rotted teeth was all she saw. Even the stench of death carried on the wind. One part of her wanted to just get in the fortress but the other was curious. Curiosity won.

Aygul ran along the shoreline to get a better look. She spotted a rocky outcrop and hid beneath one that had an opening. Using the shadows as her shelter, she peeked around the massive rock only to put her hands to her mouth to keep herself from making a noise. There in front of her was the most putrid creature she has ever seen. What in alchemy is that!? Her eyes wide with fear as she looked closely at it. She saw faces frozen in terror on this creature and from the seams she was looking at, they were all pieced together to create it. The stench was unbearable, her nose practically wanting to jump off her face. That's disgusting! As if on cue, a nice hunk of its flesh fell with an audible 'PLOP' onto the ground in front of her. She bit the inside of her cheek so she wouldn't make a noise that would draw its attention. Why would anyone do this?

She scanned the area once more to make sure she wouldn't bump into the other undead creatures. She silently moved out from under the rocky outcrops to get back to the entrance of the keep. She stopped before she could get to the keep so she could take a good look at it. It was massive and it looked like ship wreckage was put together to create the keep and long planks used to make a protective barrier around it. A tall lookout area was perched at the very top like any ship would have so that others could see any danger coming after them. Aygul tilted her head to side. I can already feel something might happen… She glanced at the undead then made her way to the entrance.

Convington Keep. She took the steps up to the keep unsurprised that the interior was the ship itself but that didn't stop her from looking at it in awe. "Wow…" she said softly to no one in particular. Though uneven since the ship was not built on flat ground but somehow, managed.

Following her instincts, she finally made it to the exit of the massive keep to be inside of the keep itself. She stepped on ground and followed the scent of fire burning wood. She smiled at the sight of a campfire as she made her way towards it. "Finally…" Even though her recent sleep at Stormbluff she was still tired. Though before she could think of sleeping, her stomachs' needs made itself known. I'd better eat something before I retire for the night.

Aygul sat next to the campfire, her small legs crossed as she made herself comfortable. She took off her bag and set it in front of her, opened it and began to dig through it to get what she needed for a small meal. A piece of dried meat, an apple and her flask of water; soon enough she began to eat. After her small fill, she placed her bag down so she could use it as a pillow for the night.

She fell asleep, her head on the makeshift pillow. Her ears twitched slight to small sounds and crickets chirping. A slight growl from a puppy nearby caused her ears to perk up and soon, all noises ceased. Her brows furrowed, slowly coming to the wind carried a peculiar scent then her nose scrunched up.

"The Risen have invaded the docks!"

"Abominations are flanking them!"

Within seconds the keep was in an uproar. Aygul quickly got to her feet and began to take her bag to leave the area but the screams gave her pause. She hesitated, what do I do? What do I do?! Would she help them fight off these undead creatures or leave to get the cure?

She shook her head and picked up her bag. She had to leave, her time was now limited as it is. Wait, did they say abominations? She turned her attention to the small army of undead to see those same creatures but put together differently, come to shore. Her feet were rooted to the ground as she began to hesitate again with her choice until she saw one of the massive creatures raise its club and swing it into an unguarded elementalist. She flew nearly halfway across the area only to hit a steep hard enough that Aygul heard an audible 'CRACK' when her head hit first, she died instantly before she could use a spell to make a soft landing.

Her eyes widened then she closed them tightly. I have to leave. A warrior shouted in pain. I can't stay. Soldiers fighting off the undead, shouts of near defeat. Ok that's it! She dropped her eyes popped open as they slowly began to change to a darker grey. Her eyes narrowed on her first targets, the Risen.

Without even blinking, she shadow stepped to each Risen, heaving her daggers cleanly through knee and ankle joints. Each time they would fall to their knees, she would slam her daggers through their heads to rip them off. She could already feel these abilities taxing her even more. Deep breaths Aygul. These people have already been long dead. Do not falter.

A white blur was going across the battlefield, Risen falling to their knees and the living taking the opportunity to kill them off. Soon, the Abominations were taken down by elementalists and guardians. The rest of the Risen took the distraction to make it to the water but none of them made it as that same white blur ran them down and slicing their legs off up the knee.

A female Lionguard Captain, Brimstone, armored to the teeth in heavy armor and a great sword saw something move out of the corner of her eye. She turned around in time to see a small white flash go past her towards an unsuspecting Risen. What is that? Daggers flashed in the moonlight and rammed home into the Risen's head while another sliced cleanly through the neck. Her eyes widened in appraisal. Better question, who is that?

Brimstone felt something large looming behind her so she turned around only to stumble back from the sheer size of the abomination. Her eyes widened as she already knew that she was within killing range of the monster. She couldn't defend herself in time as that spiked bloody club was coming down on her. "Damn it all!" She shouted in defeat.

Aygul heard the woman shout and turned around to respond. Daggers glistening her target's fate, she jumped over the Lionguard Captain's shoulder and landed on the abomination with daggers drawn. Her daggers rammed into the creature's head with enough velocity to unbalance the putrid walking flesh. This gave the captain time to scramble away after seeing the creature flail its club around just to get the tiny asuran off.

The abomination roared in surprise, trying to regain its balance. She held on tight as she tried to look for a weakness. Something moved at the left corner of her eye so she turned only to look into an eye, a moving eye! It was looking right at her with hate and rage, as if it held intelligence. She growled at it while it tried to grab for her. She ripped one dagger out of its stinking flesh and slammed it home into its eye. It roared in pain, its club hitting soldiers that were unfortunate to be near.

Some elementalists froze the abomination's leg causing to start falling forward. Aygul used this to her advantage and jumped off the creature to land at a safe distance. She ran to the campfire, snagged her bag and quickly to off to the shadows of the keep. She stayed in the darkness to watch the abominations get burned and to make sure none of these creatures left the keep alive.

After the last Risen was burned, Brimstone looked around for the small Asuran thief. She felt someone watching so she turned to look into the shadows a little far off only to see something white. It was the Asuran.

She smiled, "thank you." The wind carried her gratitude to the little thief's ears.

Aygul left the keep as she felt herself smile at a deed well done then faltered in her steps as she doubled over and puked up her small meal she had before. These untrained abilities had finally taxed her body as she tried to regain her composer. "Too much…" she panted as she tried to get up. Slowly and carefully, she got up.

She finally made it to the shoreline to see a boat prepped and ready to go. She tilted her head to the side as she held her empty but still churning stomach. This is not going to help my stomach. She made her way to the boat, took off her bag and placed it in the boat. Aygul pushed the boat off with a little effort to get it into the water. Soon as it was in, she quickly jumped in then groaned slightly as she was close to up chucking again. She closed her eyes and took in deep breaths. She opened her eyes then went over the transparent map to find her next destination. La Patl Grounds Village? That area had hyleck and she has never met one or seen one before. Well, here goes nothing. She moved the boat in the right direction then pulled in the paddles, letting the current take her. She laid down with an afterthought, this should be fun… Then she fell asleep.
