A/N:PLEASE READ. No excuses because I've explained how crazy busy my life is. Btw, I saw Catching Fire and it was AMAZING. It was so much like the book!
The ending to this chapter was pretty pathetic because I had no idea how to end it. The epilogue is the next chapter. I can't believe this is almlst over! Thanks for the support.
at the party scene, you might want to listen to the song "Hey Lady" by the New Velvet feat. Esmee Denters. (there's a version without Esmee Denters, nut losten to the version WITH her.)
I don't own TMI or "Hey Lady"
Enjoy;)
Chapter 10: How Far I've Come
Clary woke up with a throbbing headache. Groaning, she rubbed her head. Light snoring sounded from beside her. Jace was asleep. He wasn't wearing a shirt, and the sheets were pulled to his waist. One arm was draped around her stomach. Clary laughed softly and tried to sit up. Jace's arms gripped her tighter and he let out a small "No."
"Come on, Jace," she whispered, pushing at his shoulder. His eyes fluttered open looking dazed and confused. A smile graced his lips as he closed his eyes and pulled her down to him. "Hey, get up, Herondale." She flinched at the volume of her own voice.
"Nope." He grinned, though his eyes were still closed. Clary sighed. "Jace, come on. It's breakfast."
He shook his head, which was currently buried in the crook of her neck. "Fine then." Clary grinned. "No sex for you, then."
He shot up. "I'm up!"
She laughed. "Should've known that would've gotten you up."
Jace glared at her. "Really?"
"Yep." She swung her legs over the bed and stood up. A wave of dizziness came over and she fell over into Jace's arms. He chuckled. "I knew you wanted sex."
She smacked his head. "Quiet you. I'm not used to this hangover thing, okay?"
He raised his eyebrow. "You mean this isn't your first time?"
"Well..." Clary blushed. "Simon and I got really drunk this one time." Jace laughed. "Oh, quiet. I thought it was apple juice!" That made Jace laugh even harder. "Whatever. I'm out." She movies to stand up, but squealed when Jace pulled her back down.
"Where do you think you're going?" His lips skimmed her neck with a light feather touch.
"I need a cold shower," Clary said, pushing her way out from his arms. She paused at his doorway and turned around. "And you're joining me."
Jace bolted out of bed and followed his girlfriend to the bathroom. "It's not going to be a very cold shower, is it?"
Clary winked at him. "You did say you wanted sex."
They all sat on the bleachers in their red caps and gowns. Clary picked the peeling red nail polish that Isabelle insisted she wear on her fingers. She glared at the color as she viciously tried to scrub the color off of her nails. She looked up and made brief eye contact with Jonathan, who sat with Jocelyn and Luke. Her phone vibrated from its place in her bra. She picked it out, attempting to make it look inconspicuous. Jace's name flashed up on the screen.
Really, Clare? Trying to mess up all of Izzy's hard work?(Yes, I can see what you're doing.)
Clary rolled her eyes and typed back. Perv. You made me get my phone out for that?
She saw Jace grin and quickly tap in a response. Well, seeing you grab your phone from your bra reminded me of how good your bra looked on the floor of my room.
She glared at Jace, who was shaking with silent laughter as his sister and Simon looked at him like he was crazy. One of the perks of having the last name starting with the letter "L," Jace got to sit next to Isabelle and Simon. Although, Clary wasn't sure that was a positive thing. They were making "eyes" at each other constantly. Clary actually almost felt bad for her boyfriend. Almost.
Why aren't you listening to Principal Wayland's "amazing and awe inspiring" speech?
Because the guy can't write a speech to save his life.
"Now, could the graduates one up to collect their diplomas?" Principal Wayland gestured to the class. He started calling the names. "Cassidy Abromawitz."
Cassidy strutted across the stage, took her diploma, and shook the principal's hand. "Sheila Barbarino."
Clary tapped her foot anxiously. She scolded herself for being afraid. I just have to get the damn diploma and walk away.
After what seemed like no time at all, Principal Wayland was calling "Clary Fray."
Jace and Simon called out and Simon's band made catcalls. Clary resisted the urge to flip them off. As she accepted the diploma and looked out at her family in the audience, she realized, This is how far I've come. I'm not going back.
Clary had been to way too many parties in the past year for her liking. Yet again, she stood in the Lightwood's house, holding a red plastic cup. She was sure that it was water in her cup this time, not vodka. Isabelle, surprisingly, wasn't hammered yet. Keyword: yet.
Jace also was holding a non-alcoholic beverage. Close to midnight, Isabelle stood up on the make-shift stage where the professional DJ was. She got everyone to get quiet before making a speech. "Well, fellow members of the class of 2009, now we're officially not in Hell anymore," said Isabelle with a smirk, "we can do whatever the hell we want!" Cheers erupted from around the house. "I say we celebrate with karaoke!" Everyone cheered in agreement. "Right, so we've had a few requests from people as to who should come up here." Isabelle pulled out a small slip of paper. "The person with the most requests is..a duet with Clary Fray and Jace Lightwood!"
They both groaned as cheers erupted from around them. Throngs of their classmates pushed the couple onto the stage.
"What are we going to do?" Clary yelled over the noise.
A smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth. "Trust me."
He pulled the acoustic guitar from its rack. He positioned himself in the chair Izzy had put down for him and started strumming. Clary grinned when she recognized it. No one else would know what it was but her. (Clary_Jace_Both)
"Hey lady, you got something I need
I'm going crazy, cuz you got something that keeps me on my feet
I don't know what it is, but I know that it's true
That love makes no sense,
If I'm not loving you
Now I'm loving you, yeah
He runs around in the city downtown
Always catchin' the late train, it's always a good day
He likes to pretend the world is his play pen
Droppin' his money on everything he sees
He's got tattoos on his arm of the people that he loves
And she's got a suitcase with studded stars from the places where she was
Hey lady, you got something I need
I'm going crazy, cuz you got something that keeps me on my feet
I don't know what it is, but I know that it's true
That love makes no sense,
If I'm not loving you
Now I'm loving you, yeah
There was a time where I would have given up
No, not anymore, no, never on this girl
She likes Skittles from London
Sippin' on sunsets, call her what you will
He's got tattoos on her arm of the people that he loves
And she's got a suitcase with studded stars from the places where she was
Hey lady, you got something I need
I'm going crazy, cuz you got something that keeps me on my feet
I don't know what it is, but I know that it's true
That love makes no sense,
If I'm not loving you
Now I'm loving you, yeah
If you hear me on the radio,
"Hello, I notice everything you do"
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
Hello, I'm calling out to you, when I sing
Hey lady, you got something I need
I'm going crazy, cuz you got something that keeps me on my feet
I don't know what it is, but I know that it's true
That love makes no sense,
If I'm not loving you
Now I'm loving you, yeah"
Everyone screamed and clapped when they were done. They embraced, gripping onto each other and laughing hard. With tears streaming down her face, Clary pulled back. "I love you," Jace said.
He grinned before leaning in to kiss her.
