Part Ten : The King's Resolution
Loud sobs cries could be from down the hall where the very door to the bride of Nekoma resided, locked up. Sugawara passed by the hall and could only feel sympathy for the man but somewhere in his his heart he also felt disrespected by him because of what he had tried to do to his Queen. When Suga looked at the time he saw that it was nearly dawn. The night had gone by like a small ripple of water disappearing into a lake.
In another room, Kageyama and Daichi were now discussing what could be the result of all this. Kageyama sat in his chair while Daichi, across the room, sat in another chair. Kageyama's eyebrows were furred and two fingers held his chin, while his elbow supported the weight, as it rested on the desk. The King was lost in his own complex world, trying to think of how to fix everything without causing more disasters. Daichi suddenly got up then causing Tobio to break out of his concentration.
"Do you have an idea?" Kageyama asked his servant, his guard, and his trusted friend.
"Sort of. It's a long shot though." Daichi said, plainly.
Kageyama sighed and said, "At this point, I'm willing to try anything."
Giving Kageyama a final smirk he said, "Let's go then," opened the doors to the office and headed out quickly.
(Time Lapse)
Sugawara got a move on with that plan and the Neko fell for it easily enough. His crying came to a stop and things started looking well for both sides. After much communication back and forth, Daichi and Kageyama were able to fix the situation with Nekoma. Peace was restored.
Kageyama was busy with his work, managing his kingdom and making preparation for the trip he and Hinata would have to make in a few months. At one point while working he sat back in his chair and let out a loud sigh. He could feel his weak fingers trembling from all the tiresome writing he had been doing. He let his head roll back and was, now, facing the ceiling, letting his mind think about nothing except the how quiet the room was. The silence and peace lasted less than two minutes. With abrupt knocks on the door, Kageyama sighed loudly once more and trying to sound pleasant enough said, "Come in."
The heavy, wooden door creeped open and in came Sugawara came in. Kageyama looked up at him and asked, "What do you have to report on the situation?"
"The operation was completed successfully." Sugawara said and smiled happily.
"Thank goodness. I didn't want a needless war to start because of something like this." The Raven replied.
"Yes, that would be devastating. Putting men's lives at risk because of personal problems..." Sugawara said almost in a whispered. There was a pause then and Sugawara continued, "You've been working hard sir, you should take a break and eat something."
Kageyama thought about it, the idea sounded very appealing, and he said, "I'll be out in five minutes. I want to organize form papers first and then I'll be out."
Sugawara nodded left Kageyama's office. With that, Kageyama did as he said he would and left as soon as he finished. When he walked into the dining room with a simple sandwich on his plate, he saw Hinata sitting in the dining room as well, eating. Kageyama felt himself take a step back as if hesitant to even go near Hinata for some odd reason. He made a fist with his free hand and felt guilt for whatever was making him feel strange. Working all day like a workaholic was an excuse to ignore Hinata. But, Hinata was his married partner. His married partner who was pregnant and had amnesia, because he was almost raped. Kageyama tried to drill it through his mind that he had to (even if forced) accept that through the good and bad they had to hold out. He knew he loved him and wanted what was best for both of them. So with that in mind, he swallowed, walked into the dining room, and sat next to Shouyou.
The redhead didn't even notice the king's presence until the raven sat next to him. He was startled at first but then continued to eat. They both are in silence. Kageyama then looked over at Hinata after swallowing a bite of his food and asked, "How are you feeling?"
"Better." Receiving a one word answer did not satisfy the king.
"Just better?" He asked, a bit insistent on getting more information out of the boy.
"Yes." Hinata replied, a one-word answer again.
Furrowing his eyebrows Tobio said, "That's good to hear then."
Hinata furrowed his eyebrows as well, "Are you upset with me or something?"
Tobio was taken back by this, "What me?"
"Yeah, you sound annoyed." Hinata said.
Tobio looked back at him thinking about what to say to him. In the end he replied, "I've had a lot of work to do today, I'm just tired."
Hinata's eyes softened, "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"It's alright...I just want you to get better." Kageyama's hand hesitantly moved to touch Hinata's bright red curly hair but it was slapped away.
With a serious attitude Tobio asked, "Why are you upset with me then? You let me kiss you earlier didn't you?"
Hinata frowned and said, "You're leaving a bunch of empty blanks in all this and it's confusing. How can I trust and love you when you won't tell me the whole truth? It's not fair and don't start with the 'it's complicated' or 'it's for your own protection' crap."
Tobio was quiet not knowing how to reply, in the end, he sighed and got up from the table.
"Where are you going?" Hinata asked angrily.
"You said you wanted to talk, right? We can talk in my office." Kageyama replied simply and started walking back to his office with Hinata scrambling behind him.
(Mini-Time Lapse)
As Kageyama re-entered the office, he found himself shuffling towards his desk and suddenly ended up slumping into his chair. The king wasn't in the mood to deal with any of this, work was bad enough on him. Hinata sat in a sort of squatting position in a chair parallel to where Kageyama sat. They had good angle for speaking. The office was completely silent.
Hinata said then, "Ah, are you going to start explaining, because this silence is very awkward."
Kageyama looked over at something he had on his desk and sighed heavily. Kageyama slightly opened his mouth to speak but hesitantly closed it again. Thinking and putting his thoughts together, he said, "That's the problem, I don't know where to begin. I don't want the news bring you any harm."
Hinata rolled his eyes, "Come on, it can't be that bad."
Kageyama didn't even bother to meet his gaze. He took another deep breath and began from the beginning. He began explaining everything that had happened, while trying to keep a straight face. After he had said everything he needed to, he saw that Hinata looked a bit pale. The king got up from his chair, walked over to Hinata, and knelt down in front of him.
"Are you feeling alright Hinata? I told you it was a lot of shocking information. Do you need anything?" Kageyama asked as calmly as possible.
Suddenly Hinata threw himself onto Kageyama and clamp onto him as if his life where at stake. Kageyama fell back, catching himself with his right arm before letting his head hit the floor. When he got up, he realized the redhead was sobbing. As he took a few steps towards him he felt his heart racing. He brought his arms, hesitantly, around his queen and embarrassed him.
He held him close until Hinata calmed down a bit in which Kageyama said, "Why don't we just relieve each other of our stress tonight?"
Kageyama, then, looked over at Hinata's face for any sign of a positive reaction. Hinata met Kageyama's gaze, held it for a few seconds, and then quickly went in to let his lips kiss the others. The raven haired King was shocked by this but satisfied at the same time. He enjoyed it. And he let Hinata and himself get carried away although the private time they had together.
