Chapter 10

Something smooth tickles my forehead. I feel the morning breeze stroke my bare feet. I open my eyes a little and look at an unfamiliar ceiling. ' This isn't my room.' I sit on the bed and look around. On the bed, there is Naru sleeping beside me. I feel my face warming up as I remember last night's incident. 'I fell asleep while kissing Naru!' I slap my face with my both hands, embarrassed. Suddenly I feel a huge headache hit me. I sigh and lay back down, facing Naru's sleepy head. The little breeze makes Naru's smooth hair float above his forehead. His face looks so peaceful. I feel lucky to be the only one who can see this expression. He never sleeps during work, not even a little nap. His expression in always the same in front of everyone. I gently run my fingers through his hair. ' I'm glad he doesn't hate me.'

I wrap my arms around him and bury my face in his neck. He pulls me in a tight embrace. I gasp.

'' You're awake?'' I ask.

'' Not yet.'' He answers, tightening his embrace.

I smile, sigh against his neck and fall asleep.

'' Mai...'' I hear a familiar voice calling for me. I turn around and find Gene with a pained expression.

'' Gene? What's going on?'' I ask, worried.

He grabs my hand. '' You have to come with me and see something!''

We arrive in front of a door out of nowhere.

''Is this my old house? '' I ask.

'' Yes. There's a strong spirit haunting this house. I believe it is your old twin brother, isn't it? ''

I gulp,'' yeah.''

He opened the door. We can see through the walls. On my right, I can see Masako and Ayako sleeping in their room. On my left, I see Lin up early in the base and a little further, I see myself and Naru sleeping. Beside the bed stands a foggy black figure unleashing dark aura. The aura surrounds the whole room. I look at the scene, horrified.

'' He's still weak because of your attack. He's waiting for the right moment to attack. You should be careful, Mai.'' He adds after a few seconds, '' Naru should be careful too.''

'' What ? why? Isn't Shiro after me ?'' I ask, my eyes widened.

'' He's jealous, that's why. He wants you for himself. I'm afraid he will try to harm Naru.'' He says.

All of a sudden, I remember the dream I had a few days ago. I was falling down in someone's dream.

'' That dream...'' Gene starts,'' I was watching and I believe it isn't just a simple dream. It might happen for real, and soon. That's why you have to be very careful.'' His voice starts fading away.

His whole body slowly turns into dust and the last thing I see is his worried expression. Everything turns black around me.

I open my eyes and find myself again in Naru's room. I feel emptiness beside me. I sigh and sit on the bed. He's probably in the base now. I glance at the clock. 10am. I massage my forehead and get off bed. I walk to the bathroom and get myself ready for this day. Suddenly I remember my dream. Shiro was in this room. Easiness hits me in the stomach. I can feel the dark aura. It has a weird smell, unexplainable. It smells enough to make me sick. I put my hand over my mouth and run to the toilet seat. After a few minutes I leave the room quickly and go towards the base. I stand in front of the door. I take a deep breath and get in the room. Everyone is there, as usual. I mumble a good morning and head straight to the kitchen.

''Hangover.'' I hear Ayako say before I get in the kitchen. Monk starts laughing loudly.

I ignore them. I slam the kitchen's door, putting too strength without doing it on purpose. I massage my forehead again, trying to get rid of the huge headache. While I was making tea and breakfast, Someone opens the door. I shut my eyes and let out a long sigh.

'' Get out, I'm not in the mood to laugh Ayako.'' I say, coldly.

'' It's me.''

I turn around, frowning. ' Ugh, the lights are hurting my eyes.' I rush to the wall and turn off the lights. Now only the little morning light brighten the room a little. Naru looks at me, worried.

'' What's wrong Mai?'' He asks with a calm voice.

'' First, shouldn't you be angry at me?'' I glare at him,'' I fell asleep while we were kissing. Though I'm not trying to apologize at all. I don't care if you're angry. Leave me alone.'' I regret the words as soon as I hear them blurt out of my mouth. I look down, not daring to look at him.

I hear him sigh, a very long one. He walks towards me and hold my head up with his strong hands.

'' I can see you're not doing well. I don't care what happened last night, it's a trivial matter. Saying those kinds of things won't make me angry at you and leave you, Mai.'' He looks at me straight in the eyes.

I put my hand on his and I rest the other hand on his chest.

'' I know, I'm sorry Naru.'' I whisper, my voice shaking.

His look softens.

''More importantly, What is wrong with you? You look very pale.'' He says.

'' I threw up this morning.'' I state.

His eyes widen a little. He grabs my hand and drags me gently towards the table. He sits on the chair. He grabs my sides, make me sit on his lap and wrap his arms around my waist.

'' Are you pregnant? '' He asks me with a serious look.

I jump and his question and blush hard.

'' D- Do you really think so?'' I say, hiding my face.

I hear a chuckle and glare at him.

'' Don't make fun of me! It's really not the right time!'' I yell, frustrated.

He puts a small kiss on my lips.

'' Are you stupid? It's not possible, we haven't done anything yet. I'm afraid next time you might pass out as well.'' He says, teasing me.

'' Shut up Naru!'' I mumble, embarrassed. I try to get up but Naru blocks me down on his lap.

'' It's because of the alcohol, is it?'' He regains his seriousness.

'' N-no. I think – No, I'm sure it's because of something else.'' I say.

He looks at me, confused.

'' What do you mean exactly?''

I tell him everything about this morning. The dream, the aura, everything. Suddenly, I feel sick again. Naru notices it and gently holds me up tightly, his hand wrapped around my shoulders and the other below my knees. I wrap my arms around his neck and rest my head on his shoulder, my eyes shut tightly trying not to think about the room spinning. When he opens the kitchen's door, everyone looks at us. Monk hurriedly stands up and walks towards us. Everyone stands up as well, with a worried look on their face. Lin turns the chair around and looks at us.

''What's wrong ojou-chan?!'' Monk yells. He tries to put his hand on my shoulder but Naru backs down, avoiding his contact. Monk looks at him with a puzzled expression.

'' She's not feeling well so I prefer you don't touch her.'' Monk backs down, letting his arms fall.

Naru looks at Lin.

'' Lin, I'm sure you heard our whole conversation because of the micro in the kitchen.'' I brush lightly

'' Yes, Naru.'' He answers.

'' Good, we're going to my room. You know what to do.''

Lin nods and turns on a screen. It shows Naru's room. It must be one of those cameras we added in precaution after the incident, when Naru and Masako got hurt.

He grabs the doorknob but before opening the door, he turns around and look at each one in the room.

'' You guys keep working.'' After that he gets out of the base and heads to his room.

'' Am I heavy?'' I whisper, breaking the silence.

'' Very heavy.'' He says.

I gasp. I open my mouth something but he stops me from doing so with a gently kiss. I kiss him back. He breaks off the kiss and smiles at me.

'' Don't move too much, you're not feeling well, remember?'' He says, with a gentle why.

I sigh.'' Why aren't you always gentle like that with me? You always tease me and insult me.'' I mumble. I put back my head on his shoulder.

'' But, It would be boring, wouldn't it?''

'' ...I guess you're right.'' I say after thinking about it.

'' I'm always right.'' He says.

'' Oh shut up.'' I say, laughing.

We get in the room. He shuts the door behind him and puts me down on the bed gently.

He disappears in the bathroom for two minutes and gets back with a glass of waters and pills in his hand. He sits on the bed beside me.

'' Here, It's medicine.'' He hands me the glass.

''Thanks.'' I drink up and hand him back the glass.

He puts it down on the side table and sits back. He strokes my hair gently and kisses me on the forehead.

'' Now rest. I will stay here until you wake up.'' He whispers in my ear. '' I promise, it will be over soon. All of this. Don't worry about anything.''

I nod and I soon as I relax my body, I fall asleep in Naru's embrace.

When I wake up, the room is pitch black. I can't see anything. I smell something. It's the same smell as this morning. I try to call out Naru but nothing comes out of my mouth. Suddenly, I can't breathe, like if something is stuck in my throat that doesn't let me breathe. It's shiro's dark aura. I feel my body being surrounded by the aura, like if it's eating me.

This can't be happening. Naru promised he will stay beside be and watch over me. It can't be happening for real.

...Or is it?

The last thing I hear and feel is my heart beating fast and my breath.
