Chapter Ten:
Bilbo-
Bilbo crouched down under the trampling feet of the goblins carting away his companions his loving eyes, that he didn't even notice, locked onto the kicking and screaming Calaerwen. He had to hold in everything that screamed to him to get her to safety.
A blue light glimmered through the sheath of his sword, his eyes furrowed together in confusion quickly he pulled out his sword. But as soon as he did so a goblin popped out of the shadows and a battle between them began.
Closer and closer to the edge it brought them both, and into the abyss they were.
Bilbo awoke on the cold ground, in front of him was the goblin who had attacked him before. Lying dead, he hid behind a rock hearing steps coming towards him, a strange figure appeared before him. It was a creature he had never seen before, it put fear into his heart. As he watched this creature drag away the goblin to be feasted on he hoped that wherever his Calaerwen was she was more safe than he was going to be.
Calaerwen-
The small half blood ran behind Fili and Kili, she was glad Bilbo wasn't here hopefully he was off better somewhere else.
Dwalin and some of the other dwarves took hold of a rather large guardrail post holding it out like a massive spear. "Charge!" He cried, making the others run faster with him. For all the goblins that came towards them they got pushed off the narrow bridge. This place was like a maze, ever where they turned was like a zig zag, eventually the company came to a different path.
"Jump!" Thorin ordered his company, they all do as they are ordered to do, fighting off more goblins along the way.
The Great Goblin lands on the narrow passage way, blocking the company from moving and further. Calaerwen's eyes widen in terror as the company is surrounded by hundreds of goblins, she clutches onto Fili's cloak who moved his arm over her protectively. "You thought you could escape me?" The Goblin King raised his weapon swinging it towards Gandalf, who dodged it only in the nick of time. The blow made the old wizard stumble a bit back close to the edge.
"N-No,"Calaerwen tried to make it to her father but Fili's strong arm held her tightly.
"What are you going to do now, wizard?" He threatened, but Gandalf did not cower away. Instead he kept into the air and struck the king on the face, which caused him to drop his mace and clutch the wound.
"Ow, ow, ow!" He cried, not paying attention to the wizard who slowly stepped closer. Gandalf raised his mighty sword and sliced through the nasty king's over sized stomach.
His eyes widened in realization that this was going to be the end of him, he fell to his knees holding to deep gash on his belly.
"That'll do it." He looked into the eyes of Gandalf until again he struck the King and he fell over dead.
The bridge around the company shakes under the weight of the Goblin King. Calaerwen, still under Fili's protective arm, looked around for something that could save her and the rest of her companions.
However their section of the bridge collapsed before them in a terrifying speed down the side of the cavern.
The dwarves and Gandalf held on for dear life, Fili tried desperately to hold onto the bridge and Calaerwen. Before it reached the bottom, the bridge seemed to slow it's speed down, landing at the base of the cavern.
The bridge crumpled apart leaving the company in a pile of rubble. Calaerwen got out of the rubble and inspected the land before her. Looking for any sign that their dear burglar could've came this way. She was hoping that any sign would show itself, but nothing.
Fili made his way over to the blonde half breed placing hands on both her shoulders. Causing her to look at his serious face. All around them was a horde of goblins. "There's to many! We can't fight them." Gandalf looked to everyone of his companions, "Only one thing will save us: daylight! Come on!"
The company of Thorin ran through the grand cavern, the light of the exit lit up the room before them. Calaerwen looked through out the cavern for their dear Bilbo, still nothing. However she felt him close by, hidden.
The companions had finally made it out of the goblin infested caverns, the wise old wizard had again come to their rescue.
Calaerwen was in a panic, frantically she tried to make her way to Gandalf. Maybe he would do something and Bilbo could come back unharmed. But before she could get over there the wizard realized the pampered hobbit was gone.
"Where's our hobbit? Where's our hobbit?! Where'd you last see him?" Gandalf questioned the company desperately.
Calaerwen cleared her throat, all eyes on her. "I saw Bilbo slip away, when we were first caught."
"What happened exactly?"
Thorin bellowed his great voice for all to hear,"I'll tell you what happened. Master Baggins saw his chance and he took it! He's thought of nothing but his soft bed and his warm hearth since first he stepped out of his door! We will not be seeing our Hobbit again. He is long gone." Anger bubbled up inside Calaerwen as she heard Thorin. She walked up to him and stared up at the dwarven king challengingly. "He wouldn't. Bilbo's not like that!"
"She's right." A little voice called from behind, Calaerwen's heart fluttered with happiness, butterflies filled her stomach. Sighing a heavy sigh of relief she ran to Bilbo engulfing him in her arms and before she knew what she had done, she planted her lips quickly to the burglar's.
Bilbo's eyes widened as the kiss broke, looking at her now redden face. The kiss wasn't long, but it lasted on his lips. Bilbo coughed getting his composer back. Gandalf laughed softly at them. "Bilbo Baggins! I've never been so happy to see anyone in my life!"
"Bilbo, we'd given you up!" Kili cried, Fili coming up to the two hobbits. A look of hurt was deep down in his eyes. "How on earth did you get past the goblins?"
"I'd like to know as well, Bilbo." Calaerwen told him. Bilbo looked at the three of them. Not sure if he should actually tell.
"Well, what does it matter? He's back!" Gandalf said to them all. However, Thorin wanted the hobbit to cower down.
"It matters!" He yelled. "Why did you come back?"
Bilbo scoffed and looked at everyone ending at Thorin. "Look, I know you doubt me, I know you always have. And you're right, I often think of Bag End. I miss my books. And my armchair. And my garden. See, that's where I belong. That's home. And that's why I came back, cause you don't have one. A home. It was taken from you. But I will help you take it back if I can." Calaerwen grinned widely, taking Bilbo's hand in her's squeezing it reassuringly. Bilbo looked her in the eyes and smiled softly.
