3rd POV:
The following days were somewhat calm throughout the castle as groups of students made their way to their next classes while some *coughRoncough* complained on how they were hungry and wanted it to be lunch already. Outside where snow had begun to dust the grounds around the castle students in groups of 3 were seemingly fading in and out of the trees at the edge of the Forbidden Forest yet no one questioned them or even paid them any mind.
On board the Salems ship everything at first seems calm yet not one person but the students themselves can feel the unease, especially a certain green eyes wizard. He was constantly pacing back and forth in front of the fireplace in what seems to be a library while in a small couch off to the left of the fire two witches were fast asleep.
"Anything on the golden egg there Harry?" the Headmistress asked walking through the doors with a warm blanket in her arms. Gazing at the green-eyed teen in front of her as he shook his head, she can't help but wonder what the three were up too all night. Draping the blanket across the sleeping duo before glancing at the clock in the room.
Shaking his head the teen kept pacing back and forth as another student peeked his head through the door, eyes sweeping through the room before settling on the older witch. Rushing over they whispered something quickly, too quickly. This made Harry stop in spot as he made out some of the words in the message being delivered.
"...waiting… won't leave… urgently… ," the rest was lost as the duo turned and left the room, closing the doors behind them but not before Jake had slipped into the room. Seeing that the table near the fire was filled with books, the older boy simply transfigured a quill into an extra table and set the basket of food down on it.
"What happened here?" Jake asked and Harry responded with what he had managed to hear before the both of them looked at the doors that were previously open. Sharing a look between the two they made their way over to the double doors and tired to open them but they remained closed.
"Warded shut." Harry muttered, "Something's going on out there."
Following his statement the Headmistress' calm, voice suddenly was heard throughout the ship, "All students are to remain on board and no visitors are allowed only for today. This is only set in place as a precaution for the safety of all of our students. Thank You."
Sharing a look the two knew that they were thinking the same thing, 'Someone's trying break the wards around the ship.'
~With the Headmistress~
They quickly warded the doors of the library shut before quickly strolling to the plank leading outside. As they neared both can clearly see Dumbledore's robes and the figure of James Potter. Dumbledore had his hands clasped in front of him head turning every so often as he studied the ship while Potter Sr. was standing off to the right, hands clasped behind his back. They stopped just outside of the duo's line of sight and the Headmistress raised her wand to her throat. Making sure that the wards prevented everyone outside the ship couldn't hear and made an announcement,"All students are to remain on board and no visitors are allowed only for today. This is only set in place as a precaution for the safety of all of our students. Thank You."
"Ah, Headmistress Uchinha good morning," Dumbledore greeted smiling, though the smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "I was wondering how things were coming along with the search," he gestured towards the Forbidden Forest where a large group of students seemingly melted from the shadows of the trees.
"It's no good," Uchinha replied flatly, "the beast moved, it's no longer there we're stopping the search my students are already risking their health for this." She rubbed her eyes tiredly before turning to the seventh year by her side, "help them up to their rooms," she nodded to the returning students before directing her attention to the duo in front of her, "is there anything else you need."
While the two school heads were talking, James Potter, with his hands still behind his back gestured discreetly for a disillusioned Sirius Black to grab a student's robes gently and try to follow the student on board the ship. James watched the grass carefully seeing where Sirius's footprints appeared and disappeared and when the footprints didn't appear again he knew that the plan worked. At least until Remus appeared seemingly dragging something behind him.
Clearing his throat catching the school head's and Potter's attention he stated "Potter I believe I found you best friend sticking his nose where it doesn't quite belong," He let go of what his was holding on to pointed his wand at the spot, "Revelio," and Sirius Black appeared.
"Oops, I guess we forgot about his wolf senses didn't we?," Black stated rubbing bum where Remus had dropped him.
Remember ONLY Ron and his friends found a chink in the wards that allowed them to get through and they haven't told anybody about where it was.
Jame's POV:
Sirius and I originally wanted to sneak aboard the ship to take the Cursed Mirror to the Ministry but Dumbledore caught on to our plan and honest to say I had believed his plan would work, but at the moment I could tell that the headmistress wasn't pleased at the bit, "Remus go stop the Aurors on the other side of the ship from trying to break our wards I'll send some students to help," she said curtly, "I've had enough of this we're moving the ship to the middle of the lake. Then alert the students that they'll be eating on the ship and since they're ahead all classes will be cancelled till after tomorrow." She spun oh her heels and strolled back on board the ship.
"It's not like you can break the wards anyways it was just funny to see you all try so hard," Remus chuckled, as he watched the ship move about 10 feet away from the shore and a few seconds after it stopped little ripples were visible where spells were striking the wards. On the opposite side of the ship students can be seen diving, silently into the water and vanishing from sight, "You should stay and enjoy the show the students can be quite creative when it comes to these things," Remus stated as he made his way to the edge of the lake aware of the trio following behind him, "I'm only here to make sure that they," he gestured to the air beside the ship where the disillusioned Aurors, on their brooms, were, "don't fall into the water and drown."
Surely soon enough a few students raised their wands just to the tip was out of the water and spells went flying. A few Aurors aimed their wands back but the spells only hit the water. It went on for another few seconds before an Auror became visible and fell off his broom, obviously unconscious. Flicking his wand Remus caused the man and his broom to float over and onto the grass by their feet. The man had been hit with not only a stunner but a full body bind as well and Remus kept catching and bringing Aurors as they were knocked off of their brooms, so far 6 have been brought in and no one had hit the water.
"Why," I asked calmly, "why can't you just-"
"-let go of the past?" Remus interrupted, "Because James," he seemed to growl, "I have my own reasons and it's obvious that you didn't want to raise Harry even though he is your son, so as his godfather I have to do my job."
"But your condition!" Sirius interjected but Remus brushed him off.
"It's under control honestly I'm much more docile when I transform," he glanced back at us, "I turn into an actual wolf now and I can also do it at will," he turned back to the task at hand, " how many?"
"20," I answered and began on reviving my knocked out coworkers along side Sirius noting that Dumbledore and headed back to the castle.
Looking across the water I saw one of the windows open and a head of raven hair peeked out. The person yelled down towards the water where another head popped up and yelled back a response. The raven haired student then looked towards the shore where we stood and waved to Remus, who waved back. Unsure if it was who I thought it was I began to chew on my bottom lip not sure if I should ask or not.
3rd POV:
Remus as if sensing the unasked question hanging in the air spoke up. "Yes that was, Harry and he's an excellent student. If you really want to know he's aiming for at least 4 masteries before graduating." He instantly heard the duo behind him let out a sigh and could clearly picture James smiling as if he's in pure bliss. Smirking to himself Remus couldn't help but to jab at the duo, "But he still hates your guts," he states, James' smile dropped while Sirius began to smirk, "your's to Black." Sirius' smirk dropped as well.
By the time all of the Aurors we safely ashore and shooed off to the Hospital Wing, Remus was already back on board the ship clearly amused as Harry and Jake were ranting at the student that warded them in the library.
"Harry, you've been at it for over an hour give it up already," Mimi called out from a tangle of ropes that were suspended in between two of the masts.
"But I wanted to help and clearly
I wasn't allowed to," the ravenette continued, now pacing back and forth, "I mean you all know that I would act this way and yet-" Harry was silenced by Remus with a look signifying that the older wizard had enough. "Sorry."
"Well if we really have the rest of today free I'm gonna get some sleep," Mimi jumped down from her perch, "on an actual bed with a warm blanket not on the couch like the last two days trying to figure out how to open the egg without having our ears bleed." She shot Harry down before he could say that she had gotten enough sleep.
Soon enough students began spread themself out on deck to enjoy the warm autumn-turning-winter air.
~Gryffindor Tower~
Neville, who had be reading by the window happened to lookup, watched with mild interest at the spectacle before him. One by one Aurors were appearing to fall out of the air only to float towards the trio that stood on the shore of the lake.
"Bloody hell?" Ron muttered as he appeared beside Neville, who stood up to find one of the female students to get Hermione from the girls dorm.
The students who heard Ron's exclamations in turn stood up and crowded around the window as well seeing the spectacle taking place over the water. Whispers begin to break out amongst the students. The commotion allowed Neville and Hermione to slip out on the common room unnoticed with their bags, both intending to head to the library to meet the two Slytherins and Michael but Fate seems to have other plans. The duo ran into the two Slytherins on their way to the library and was redirected to the kitchen.
"They're on lock down, no one is allowed on or off the ship," Draco stated calmly reading the note that he just received earlier as Hermione requested one of the house elves to alert them if someone other than Michael was going to enter the kitchens, "Apparently Black and Potter Sr. managed to find a way to get aboard the ship."
"My dad did what?!" Michael exclaimed only just arriving to hear the second statement. Setting his bag on the floor he sat on one of the many stools set around the countertop as the group filled him in on what he had missed while he was in the library aiming to help his brother out. "So you're saying that they managed to get Padfoot- I mean Sirius on board only to get found out by Prof. Lupin?"
"Well Harry did say that one time that the Prof. had a very keen sense of smell and a strong hunter's instinct," Hermione said recalling the last time they were on the Salems ship. "So we can't see them in person but we can send them messages via owls right?"
"Yes, but we can use these instead," Blaise held up four black pieces of parchment then looked at Michael, "Harry said that you already have one, do you still have it?" Nodding Michael pulled his out of a textbook he had it in and began explaining how it worked. By the time he finished his explanation, one of the elves notified them that someone was approaching the kitchens. All four quickly scrambled to hide the parchment and pull out their textbooks just as James and Sirius walked through the revealed doorway.
The two older wizards stopped in their tracks upon noticing the 5 students sitting at one of the countertops watching them. "Hullo what are you doing here with Slytherins?" Sirius said breaking the silence that settled over the room.
"We were studying in the Library but then got hungry so we came here," Michael lied smoothly, "Blaise's the top student in Potions at the moment, Hermione in History, Draco in Transfiguration, Neville in Herbology, and me in Charms. You do want me to do my best and be one of the top students at Hogwarts right?" He made sure to lay the guilt on thick and it worked.
"No no no," James said quickly, "we didn't know so we were just curious right Sirius?" James subtly elbowed his best friend, "right?" and Black nodded in agreement after coming out of shock.
"Yup!" he said a little too quickly, "I didn't expect the two of them to be at the top of those classes." Thankfully the older wizards were too confused to see through their lies.
Rolling his eyes the blonde Slytherin couldn't help but let a, "because you're both self absorbed, idiotic Aurors" out under his breath that caused the other students to start snickering leaving the adults looking at them oddly.
"Anyways," Neville cut in after regaining his composure, "We better get back to studying there's a Charms test coming up and we have an essay for Mcgonagall as well. Do you even start your essay Michael?"
The said Gryffindor turned slightly red before stuttering at how Ron was trying to copy his essay and that he didn't want to get in trouble for copying causing Hermione to whack him on the back of the head.
"Then get started or you're going to be staying up late to finish it," she said simply and pulled out her own essay and slid it over to Draco, "can you proofread this for me I'll look at yours to if you want."
3rd POV:
Leaving the students to study, both James and Sirius turned and began their long trek back to the quarters Sirius had be assigned for the year. As they walked there was a heavy silence that had fallen between the usually happy and carefree duo.
"I don't like the looks of it either Prongs," Sirius' voice broke cut through the silence, "but if they really befriend those two then it would mean that there would be fewer Death Eaters in the future if another "Dark Lord" would arise." He put a hand on his friend's shoulder. "C'mon let head to the Three Broomsticks." The duo, in silent agreement, altered their course and began their trek towards the small village.
"James?" the duo paused and looked behind them meeting the concerned green-eyed gaze stare back at them.
"Lily?" James shook Sirius' arm off his shoulder to face his wife. "What's wrong love?"
Lily said nothing as she walked up to her husband and just clung on to him. "Want come to the Three Broomsticks with us then?" She nodded and the three turned back to the long walk ahead of them.
~with the mystery person~
The male had been pacing in front of the fireplace for the past 30 minutes practically growling with waves of frustration radiating off his figure. The Sphinx, who had been napping near the couch to the left of the fireplace, opened an eye as the door to the study opened revealing a wizard just slightly shorter that the male already in the room. The newcomer shut the door behind him as he made his way towards the Sphinx, who had fallen back asleep after sensing no hostilities from the said male, and sat down.
"You're going to wear a hole in the floorboards if you keep pacing like that," the shorter male stated simply as he began to pet the large animal that moved to lay by his feet, "Look at what you're doing to the carpet. Mother wouldn't be very pleased about that." He picked up the worn book from the cushion beside him.
"Shut up and she's not our mother," the first male had given up on pacing and collapsed on the unoccupied couch opposite to his pet and unwanted visitor, "What are you doing here? I thought you couldn't stand being in the same house as your "monstrous" older brother."
The younger male flinched slightly, "Okay, okay. I admit it, I was wrong but this," he gestured to the desk filled with papers and the worn spot on the carpet in front of the fireplace, "is a bit too far. Cyrus you need to take a break. Even if it's just a small one."
"I can't do that, not until I fixed my mistake," Cyrus dropped his head into his hands, "were you followed?" He looked up at his younger brother.
"No I wasn't," the younger male answered as the Sphinx stood up and vanished out of the room through the open window that magically shut after her, "don't worry I won't let him find our mother's safe haven." Seeing Cyrus nod and finally relaxing slightly he continued speaking, "If she saw how hard you're working now to find her I'm sure she would be very happy," he said smiling slightly before frowning at the said male, who stood up to organize the messy desk, "but also disappointed at how you're not taking care of yourself."
Cyrus glared at his younger brother, annoyed but giving in to his little brother's pestering, "Alright, alright, I'll rest tonight but tomorrow I'm going to try to talk to her," Cyrus said as he put down the papers he had been holding and as if sensing the unasked question he responded sharply, "Yes I'm pretty sure I found her, I just need to speak with her."
I have no excuse for almost abandoning this story but I've re-edited the outline and rewriting chapter 1 (because I'm not happy with my horrible 6th grade writing skills). At least the first mystery figure has a name now. The next chapter will be another filler that is crucial to this story. Don't forget if you haven't voted on Hermione's date for the Yule ball there is a poll on my profile page or you can drop a comment on who it should be. There are only 2 choices on the poll but you can also request a character to be her date in the comments.
