Chapter Nine
Meanwhile in ThunderClan…..
The sun shines down on a picturesque scene as I watch the Clan, Echosong and Ravenclaw at my side. "Try to relax." Ravenclaw hisses.
I shoot her a quelling glare and growl, "Relax, Raven? They've been gone for two days and we've heard nothing!"
Echosong closes her eyes and shudders, taking several deep breathes.
"You didn't expect to hear anything." Ravenclaw shoots back. I scan the Clan again and my eyes land on Featherpaw and Moonpaw, talking seriously to Emberpaw and Hopepaw.
"I thought StarClan might…. say something." I admit as Echosong snorts diversely.
"We need to stop relying on them." Ravenclaw declares, "They're up there, we're here."
"Yeah…" I mutter, "But being up there means they can see more than we can." I turn sharply, leaning my two friends behind as I weave my way to the path to my den.
*Featherpaw*
"Are you sure he hasn't seen anything?" Moonpaw asks, looking at Fallensnow with a pleading expression.
"No I'm not sure about anything." She snaps, then closes her eyes wearily, "You know what he's like. I don't think he's seen anything though, and that makes him angry."
"Apparently it makes you angry too." Heatherpaw comments causing us all to stare at her. "What?" she asks innocently.
"Heatherpaw I love you, and you know I do," I mew softly, "but as you don't have a family member on a secret super dangerous mission, shut up."
Heatherpaw blinks slightly but nods and wanders off. Feather Breeze snorts softly while Eaglepaw rolls his eyes and mutters, "You know she's going to be complaining about this."
Fallensnow sighs heavily and stands, causing Silverwind to scramble up. She casts a sweeping gaze around at us, following her sister to the warriors den.
"Nice job." Moonpaw mutters looking at Eaglepaw.
"If that is what upset her then she needs to get her nerve back." Eaglepaw replies coolly.
"Stop it!" I snarl as Moonpaw opens her mouth to retort, "We can't fight amongst ourselves, we can't!"
"Save the dramatics Featherpaw." Emberpaw mews wearily, "They won't listen anyways."
"Let's go hunt," Hopepaw mews consolingly. Moonpaw shifts slightly and makes a quick excuse, leaving to find Hailstreak. I swish my tail as my friends leave and look up to the mouth of my mother's den. She'd disappeared up there some time ago and I wonder what she's doing.
Looking around again, I don't spot Graystripe, so I slowly make my way to the medicine den. The senior warriors are having a meeting, so I figure he'll be occupied for a while.
"Featherpaw what brings you here?" Snakesayer asks, looking up from the herbs he was working with.
I shrug casually and mew, "Atmosphere got a bit tense out there."
Snakesayer shifts and looks down, before mewing quickly, "Look before you ask, I haven't seen anything about them –"
"I know." I mew softly, causing him to fall silent, "That's not why I'm here."
"Really?" he asks doubtfully, "You're not here to interrogate me on every second of my life since they left, hoping to find some information? Hoping that I'll change my mind and say I have seen them?"
"No." I repeat calmly, "Because I have."
Snakesayer blinks in shock and whispers, "You what?"
"I saw them." I reply, "Last night."
"How?" he asks, looking at me uncertainly.
"My powers." I reply sitting down and sighing, "Last night I had a dream. I watched Stormfur and Brooke and everyone go through the mountains… into the wolf camp. It startled me so I woke up. I was still half asleep though but I was thinking about Lightingpaw and Bramble, I saw into Lightingpaw's mind. They were coming up the crest I saw it in my dream, they've made it."
Snakesayer stares at me suspiciously as I look bleakly at him. "Why didn't you tell them?" he asks, nodding out of the den.
"I… I don't know…" I sigh, but I do know why.
I hadn't seen into my brother's mind, I'd seen into Bramble's. Moonpaw would know at once that'd I was lying and I did not want to have to explain it to her. To make it worse, he hadn't been thinking about me at all. Lightingpaw was thinking about us and Moon Beam, even Frozenfang was thinking about his siblings and Lilacfire but Bramble? Nothing.
I'd been foolish. No, I'd been an idiot, and that was the last thing I wanted to admit.
"Featherpaw…" Snakesayer mews slowly.
"Don't make me." I whisper. I can feel the question burning inside of him, but he says nothing.
"Well what do you want?" he asks at last.
I shrug slightly and mutter, "A place to stay…."
"Fine." Snakesayer mumbles, rolling his eyes, "But if you're going to pour your heart out me I should warn you that I probably won't listen."
Laughter tumbles out of my mouth before I can't stop it and Snakesayer grins at me, muttering about how crazy I am.
Yeah that sounds about right.
*Snakesayer*
As soon as Featherpaw leaves to eat I stand and head to my nest. She's given me a bit of relief, but I want to try and check on my brother myself.
It takes me forever to fall asleep, because when you really want to you never can, but when I finally manage it, my old friend Meadowlace is waiting for me. She smiles at me, her green eyes glittering, and I smile back.
Since our first meeting, we've spent a lot of time together and I've learned that while she might be crazy, it's in a good way. "I didn't think I'd see you today." I mew and she shrugs.
"I had a feeling. What's wrong today Snakesayer?"
"You say that as if all I ever do is complain." I mew with a smirk and she laughs, shaking her head.
"What is it?" She asks again.
"Frozenfang." I mew at once, "And the others, I'm worried about them."
Meadowlace gives a long suffering sigh and mutters, "You couldn't have asked for something easy, could you?"
"Sorry," I reply with a shrug, "But I'm hard to please."
Meadowlace scoffs, but leads me along the river that I first followed into River StarClan territory. Soon we're back in the common areas, but she doesn't stop and instead takes me down a path following a forest. As we go the trees get smaller, almost sickly. Then we pass through a line that blocks out the other side and I freeze.
For about fifty foxlengths a meadow stretches before us, green and beautiful like most of StarClan. But after that it grows broken with gray patches before turning a dirty gray-white, going on for as far as I can see.
"What-what's this?" I ask uncertainly, glancing at Meadowlace. She has a dark look on her face and she sighs.
"Nothingness. It… well not all cats have an afterlife. In between the cats that do is nothingness. That's where your brother is, and where your friends are. They are no cats there so there's no afterlife. We can't see what happens. I can't help you."
"But surely the wolves have an afterlife?" I ask.
"I would assume they do." she replies frowning, "But as they are a – uh – different being per say, it is impossible for us to get there."
"Nothings impossible." I mew shaking my head, "I'm sure it's been done once."
"It is forbidden Snakesayer!" I hear a note of panic in her voice and I try to rearrange the emotions on my face.
"But… but Meadowlace –"
"No!" she snaps, shaking her head frantically, "You can't! It is far too dangerous! They will catch you and you will be in such trouble! You can't!" She glares at me, and I'm startled to see angry tears in her eyes, "I shouldn't have shown you this." She mews bitterly, "They're fine Snakesayer, they'll be back before you know it."
Meadowlace shunts me away and I glance back with a frown on my face, curiosity growing inside of me.
So what did you all think? Once again I don't own Meadowlace…. erm… yep I think that's it.
Our Thanksgiving break starts next Monday so hopefully I'll be able to write a lot, but I'm also going to be doing several school projects so who knows.

To be fair, "It'll only kill us faster" isn't the most calming thing to say in a crisis;)
Hope you all enjoyed, and review please!
