Chapter 9. New home.
Brianna was lying in the soft bed, Riddick's warm body flush against her own.
Her mind kept playing over the scene in the other cave. Her naked body against Riddick's… He had made her feel what desire was. But she had felt so insecure, not ready for what he wanted. What he needed.
Surprisingly, Riddick had backed off when she asked him too, kissing her gentle and leading her to bed.
She opened her eyes to face the darkness around them. She really didn't get this guy. He seemed to really be into her. But how long would it last?
She softly sighed and moved to lie a little bit more comfortable, feeling how his arm tightened around her waist.
She wasn't the only one still awake.
But he didn't make a sound, nor did he moved. She wondered what he was thinking right know?
Eventually Brianna felt her eyes grew tired, and sleep overcame her.
It took two really loud thuds on the cave door for Brianna to sit up straight in bed. It was still dark, still night she guessed. When she heard another sound she quickly scanned the place beside her in bed, seeing Riddick was still fast asleep.
She placed her hand on his shoulder, softly trying to wake him. He immediately reacted, grasping her hand in his, pulling her to his chest.
"There's something at the door!", she whispered as loud as she dared. She watched his eyes adjust to their surroundings, his breathing getting a little more rapid.
She watched his line of sight, tracing the cave and then the door.
When she opened her mouth to say something, Riddick mentioned for her to stay quiet. So she did.
He stepped out of the bed, seeing Amon was also awake, but still lying inside his basket, not moving an inch.
Riddick nodded in approval before he made his way over towards the door, listening to the faint voices he could hear outside.
It lasted for a minute before the sounds, and voices disappeared.
Riddick checked the door, but it was still perfectly closed.
He turned and re-joined Brianna in bed, pulling her to his body.
"They're gone", he told her shivering form. Brianna nodded, but still felt a little scared. She had no clue who had been there and why. But since it was at night, she reckoned they had not been here to just say hello.
"Come here", Riddick whispered when she kept shivering. He pulled her even closer, leaning his forehead against hers, reading her eyes.
"Who were they?", Brianna asked him, the fear still readable in her eyes. Riddick nuzzled his nose against her cheek before answering.
"Other survivors of your crash. Probably trying to find shelter, and food."
Brianna's eyes lightened up a bit, wondering if that was a good, or bad sign.
"What if they come back tomorrow?", her small voice asked him. Riddick pulled his head back, watching her again.
"We'll be long gone then. Our journey will start at the break of dawn."
Brianna's eyes grew even wider, not understanding his answer. He had been mentioning they would not be staying here very long, but he had never told her when they would leave. Or where to.
"Where to?", she then asked. Riddick grinned. Curious little thing.
"Don't you worry about that, it will be safe. And a lot more comfortable then this cave. Although I do really like the privacy we have here, don't you?", he teasingly asked, one of his hands resting on her behind, gently grabbing a cheek in his hand.
Brianna jumped a little, but realised he was her safe heaven here. And he cared for her. She needed him.
His hand roamed her back and then rested around her waist.
"Close your eyes and sleep. It will be a long day when you wake," he told her, kissing her forehead before lying his head on the pillow behind hers.
He knew it would be tricky, with the other people following so close behind. But he knew they would come back to this cave today or the next. He needed to bring his mate and himself to safety. He would not let anybody near to them if not necessary.
Brianna obediently closed her eyes and lied herself down. She wondered how she would ever fall asleep now. Her mind was spinning with thoughts and fears. Where would they go? And who were the other survivors?
She did her best to blank her thoughts, knowing they had a real long day ahead of them.
Even before the break of dawn, Riddick had woken her.
They had shared a small breakfast, half of the meat already eaten by Amon, who needed more food every day, growing so fast.
It was a long walk before they reached the brumby's Riddick had told her about.
He actually had two of them tied down to a fence. Not completely submissive horses. But Riddick knew how to ride.
His plan had been to let Brianna ride the second horse. But seeing how nervous she was eyeing the creature, he placed her before him on his horse, using the other for their bags.
Amon was happy to see other animals, walking a little too much in the way to Riddick's liking.
He wanted them out of here as soon as possible.
"Hold on to me, our pace will be constant", he informed Brianna, taking the reins and using his muscled legs to get the horse to move.
Brianna found her position was not really comfortable, riding the horse without a saddle and all. But Riddick was a big man, giving her enough space to rest back against. His strong legs rested next to her form, providing a strong and steady base to hold onto.
The forest slowly came to life. The sun was rising and the birds where singing. Brianna looked around in amazement, enjoying all the beautiful animals and nature around them.
Riddick had been a man of his word. They had not stopped for food or a pause. The only time she had been getting of the horse had been for a quick pee, but even that had to be really quick. Before she knew it she had been back on the horse, once more sitting before Riddick, feeling how his strong legs moved the horse.
She did not know a lot about horses, but she reckoned he could get the animal to move even without the reins. His legs did all of the work for him.
It was already getting dark, before Riddick finally let the horse walk slower. Brianna wondered if they had reached their new destination.
She looked around trying to spot something in the darkness, but she saw nothing. But then she watched Amon strolling beside them, seeing how his head turned up in the sky. She followed his line of view and finally saw their new home.
Riddick watched her mouth fall open. A good sign.
Above their heads was the biggest tree house Brianna had ever seen. The tree itself was old, big and so high she felt an ache in her tummy thinking about the heights they would go to.
It seemed big. More for a family than a couple. A spiral stairs was rounded around the tree, providing a way up there. She was especially amazed about how well the whole thing was hidden. If you didn't knew it was here, you would probably never find it. You would just walk by.
"Our new home", Riddick whispered in her ear before getting off the horse. He picked her of the horse and put her next to him on the ground.
Amon excitingly came to meet her, licking her hand. She patted him absentmindedly, still watching upwards.
Riddick pulled their stuff off the other brumby, slapping both their behinds to get them to vanish. He didn't needed them any longer.
"Let's go up", he told her, picking up all the bags, and mentioning for her to go first. Brianna watched up while walking the stairs. It was so immensely high!
It took them ten full minutes to get to the top of the tree, finally reaching a door. The whole house was made out of wood, completely ascend into the colours of the tree.
"It's open", she heard Riddick's deep voice say behind her.
Brianna slowly opened the door, wondering if it was safe inside. Peering around the corner she saw a very large room, that was decorated with wooden furniture. There was not much stuff standing around. Just the necessary table with four chairs, a sofa made out of wood and a fire place. Walking inside Brianna saw there was also a small kitchen. She was amazed about how you could make so much things out of wood.
It was clear everything was handmade, by a very skilled person.
She walked closer to the kitchen area, letting her hand brush over the wooden surface of one of the counters.
Riddick had dropped the bags and gave the house a quick inspection. Safe.
He then returned to Brianna and Amon. Bree was admiring the place, walking around with a still open mouth.
Amon was tired from the long journey, lying himself down next to the sofa, his eyes half open.
He grinned and petted the wolfs head.
"Good boy", he said.
Brianna wondered around, until she made her way over to Riddick.
"This is amazing, how did you ever make all this?", she wondered, her voice filled with amazement.
Riddick grinned, he like the way she thought of him, being capable of anything. But this was not his doing.
"I didn't, I found this place about a year ago. It's a little dusty now, but everything is intact and working. I have absolutely no clue who made this, but they were smart and very skilled. We have running water here, and even a working bathroom", he explained to her, seeing her eyes drift off to the rooms he had already checked.
He took her hand and led her towards the bedroom, one of the three. Two stood empty, but this one had an actual bed, nightstands and a drawer.
"It's beautiful, but why would someone ever make a place like this?", Brianna asked Riddick. He played with a lock of her red hair.
"Maybe researchers, or people who had enough of the city life? I really don't know. But I'm glad this place looks as good as it does, seeing it has been empty for all these years now."
Brianna nodded and followed him into the bathroom. There was a wooden tub and a shower. Even a sink and a not so practical toilet were present.
Riddick showed her everything worked, proud when he saw she really was amazed by all of this.
Brianna finally knew where he had been those days she had spent alone in the cave. He had even thought of food, a small stock of fruits in the kitchen to prove for it.
The people who had lived here before them had stored a lot of bins with food. Handy.
"Nobody will find us up here, as long as we don't lead them to us", he told her, pulling her on his lap while he took place on the couch.
"That means you can't leave this pace without me or my consent. Understood?", he asked her. Brianna nodded. She had been scared enough last night, she would listen now.
"Good. Let me start the fire, and see what we can eat. I'm starving."
Sitting at the table, with some fruit and warm meat, Brianna watched Riddick eat. He seemed more at ease here, like he really knew they were safe from all the harm of the world.
She liked to believe that idea. Still something stirred within her. She trusted Riddick's guts, but still…
"Now my frail, come here", Riddick told her from his place on the couch. She had placed some of the food away, trying to keep the place as neat as possible.
He motioned for her to take place on his lap. She complied, resting her back against his broad form.
"How are you feeling?", he asked her. She had not expected that question. But he did seemed to take interest in her wellbeing these days.
"Fine, just tired and a bit sore", she told him. She saw a grin form on his face.
The horse ride had not been comfortable at all, and after the whole day with that brumby between her legs, Brianna was happy to sit on Riddick's lap. Much more comfortable.
"You?", she asked him softly. She tried to ignore the feeling in her stomach when he genuinely smiled at her.
"The same. So let's skip that bath and head straight to bed. We have all of tomorrow to enjoy ourselves", he told her with an even broader smile. Brianna wondered what he meant with that last part.
She had to admit she did not really care at the moment. All she longed for was a good night's rest.
"Come on then, I'll carry you", Riddick said, pulling her in his arms and walking the both of them into the bedroom.
