Len's P.O.V.
"Len, Len, wake up!" Gakupo's voice pierces my sleep.
"Ugh, five more minutes, eggplant man." I reply drowsily. My eyes close and the world is once again sleep.
"Len, everyone is already at breakfast!"
My head flies up at this. I'm not supposed to be late.
"How long ago was I supposed to be there?"
"Five minutes."
I grab a shirt and throw it on. I have no time to properly fix myself, I run out of my room and into the dining hall. I hang my head,"I'm sorry, please forgive me, I over slept."
Nobody dismisses me. I hear snorts. I look up and everyone burst out laughing, even Rin. She tried to hold it back, but it poured out. She looked better when she laughed. She had a high, melodic laugh, it was quite pretty.
While I like getting them to laugh, I am thoroughly confused.
"Why is everyone laughing?"
That sentence seemed to make them laugh even harder. Luka fell out of her chair and the King was doubled over in laughter.
Finally, after seeing my confused look, in between laughs, the King told me,"Your shirt is backward, you have drool dried on your face, your hair is horrible, and your slippers are in the wrong feet."
I look at my feet and see the slippers are backward, but they aren't mine, they are unicorn slippers that are toddler size and look like rainbow barf.
These were Rin's old slippers. The look on my face once again renewed their laughter. I looked at Rin and gave her a why-did-you-do-this look. This made her laugh. She normally was the serious type. Not the type to pull a prank.
I climb next to her and grumpily sit down. The rest of breakfast proceeded normally, though with occasional snorts and people glancing at me.
The King dismissed everyone except Rin and I. "I have decided that you two should get to know each other, I'll have Mikuo drive the carriage through the town and you two can spend a day at the park."
We both nod and I go to get ready. I fix myself and make sure I look like a proper royal advisor should.
I make my way to the front hall and meet up with Rin.
"Ah, so I see you got ready this time." She said in a proper tone. She wore an orange frilly dress that goes out so much at the bottom the difference between her and the dress was so much.
"Yes, well the first time, I had bad shoes to walk in."
She laughed and this urged me even further, laughter was rare from her anymore and I wanted to hear it.
"Plus, eggplant man woke me up and it's hard to have a good day when you start it with eggplant man."Her laughter continued and she had to bend and put her hands on her knees to stay up. She straightened up and replied.
"Rainbow isn't exactly your color."
The doors swing open and Mikuo bowed."Time to go through town." He said. Miku looked similar to him. They weren't related, just like Rin and I weren't related, or how Teto and Ted weren't related.
We walked outside where the sun was a few hours after rising and the sky had no clouds. The flowers in the grass were many different shades. The carriage sat up front in its glory.
The carriage was a white with gold lines that looked like vines. The inside had a table and two comfy cushions so the journey would be easy. The windows were covered by curtains that were gold. It was stunning.
I climbed in and offered my hand to Rin, as was proper. I noticed two baskets in her hand, presumably food. I helped her in and Mikuo shut the door.
"Here, let me take a basket." I said. She looked at each basket carefully before handing me one. "So what's for lunch?" I asked.
"Oranges and sandwiches." She replied and she was almost drooling. Oranges were her favorite.
It wasn't a royal meal and I wondered why she chose it. Maybe everyone needed a simple meal for once.
"Do you now how long the King wanted us to be at the park?" She asked.
"I don't know." I replied. Normally she would have yelled but today she just nodded. She was calm and happy. Something she hadn't acted like in years. I knew the mean thing was an act. I had seen her before it had happened and she could pretend but most of us could see through her act.
The ride continued in silently for a while until we reached town. We opened the windows and waved at people. They all waved back.
The people in town all laughed and were joyful that we were there. They enjoyed royalty passing through and the kindness we showed them.
When we passed through the whole town we shut the curtains.
Suddenly, the basket shook and a cat exited. It stretched and yawned. It was gray and it was very sweet. It came up to me and rubbed against me and purred.
I looked at Rin with an eyebrow raised. She shrugged and sweat was apparent on her brow. So that's why she was worried about how long we would be gone. It made sense.
"Please don't tell, they'll make me get rid of her."
I pondered this. I could never make her get rid of this cat. It was obvious the cat was in good health and that Rin was treating her well.
"I wouldn't dream of it. It's kind of sweet that you would take in this cat even though there is a chance of consequences." I pet the cat and she drops on my lap.
This cat and I are similar. I was brought in even though there could be consequences, but due to someone's kindness, I was okay. I should show the same kindness to this cat.
