No One's POV
Soul stared blankly at the ceiling and looked back at his phone. It has been a while since he last saw Maka, she wasn't replying to his texts and didn't bother to answer any of his calls and it worried him so. He didn't even know why, he kept asking himself the same question over and over again: Why do I care so much?
The question baffled and scrambled his mind like you would to a bowl of fresh eggs. It was a sunny Saturday today, Hana in the living room watching her cartoons while eating a bowl of Lucky Charms.
As much as Soul was tempted to stomp right to Joe's Café, he couldn't, who would watch over Hana? Sure he could Tsubaki to watch over her but he promised he wouldn't leave her alone ever, he can't tell Hana to turn off the TV because it's practically a known fact that you cannot and will not turn a TV off when a kid is watching
What should he do?
He decided to just give up then he threw his phone on the pillow and grabbed a towel for a nice and warm bath.
Maka was horrified at the sight of herself in the mirror. Her hair was disheveled and knotted all over the place and her eyes had large bags under them but she knew it was worth it. She saved up just enough to pay for her rent for 4 months, sooner or later, she would move out immediately.
She took off her clothes and climbed in the shower. While looking a bit more at herself, she couldn't help but feel like falling asleep. She jumped up, awake and energetic, to feeling of the cold water hitting her face.
She brushed her teeth and lazily counted each stroke then rinsed the foam out of her mouth and dressed up for another day at work and after that she had to go to her other job which is being a receptionist at a public library.
She had almost an entire afternoon off after her shift at Joe's, why not get another job?
"Morning, Angus" Maka said tiredly and the dog's ears flattened "I'm okay, Angus. Here's your food" she put a bowl of dog food down and refilled his water then left the house for work.
She kicked the stand of her bike up and started riding to the café while either accidentally bumping into people or almost falling off the bike.
Once she had finally reached the café, she was two minutes late "Maka where have you been? You are exactly two minutes late! If I were you, I would've made it 8 minutes….such a beautiful and symmetrical number…" Kidd said to Maka who only nodded her head not caring whatsoever.
"Maka are you okay?" Joe questioned Maka with a worried expression "Yes, yes I 'm fine. Just a little tired" Maka rubbed her eye to prove it so.
"Tired? You look drained and completely exhausted. Maybe you should take the day off" Joe suggested. As much as Maka wanted to take the offer, she just couldn't, she needed the money and quick "No, none of that needed. I'm….feeling….o-okay" Maka collapsed and Kidd quickly called her
"Silly girl, over-working herself to the point of passing out, she really needs to sort out her priorities" Kidd shook his head as he said it "Joe, do me a favor and call Soul from Maka's phone"
"No problem" Joe took hold of Maka's messenger bag and dug around for her phone only to find it dead "Do you have Soul's number in your phone? It seems that she hasn't charged hers yet" Kidd sighed and handed his own phone to him and Joe called Soul
"Hello? Who is this" Hana's voice answered
"This is Joe Butataki, may I talk to Soul?"
"Okay, hang on" in the background, you can hear Hana's voice yell out "Papa, someone wants to talk to you!"
"Hello?" A deep masculine voice said
"This is Joe Butataki"
"Maka's boss? Did anything happen to her?"
"Well, yes. I assume she overexerted herself and passed out, do you mind fetching her from here?"
"No, not at all. I'll be there as soon as possible" the call ended "He'll be here soon" Joe said to Kidd as he placed Maka on a foldable chair.
The door shot open as a worried Soul and little Hana went through "How's Maka?" Soul said in between pants "Papa…" Soul looked at Hana a little worried when he saw water collecting at the corners of her eyes "Is she asleep like Mama?"
"No no she's not. She's just really tired and fell asleep so now we have to bring her back" Soul carefully explained to the crying girl.
"Well, take her along now. She deserves a day-off once in a while" Joe carefully put Maka on Soul's back and started carrying her piggy-back style then placed her between him and Hana with Hana being on the very front and Soul on the back.
As he drove, he noticed Maka stir a little, this woman was too much for him, he thought with a chuckle and dropped her off at their apartment.
"Maka will be resting on your bed, okay Hana?" Hana nodded in approval as she continued watching TV, kids these days, Soul thought with a small laugh and brought Maka in Hana's room to let her rest.
Maka's POV
I felt someone's breath on my face but brushed it off suddenly, a puff of air was blown in my ear and I jumped a little too quickly making the blood suddenly rush to my head. I looked around me 'This isn't my bedroom' I was scared by now, did I get drunk? Did I break in someone's house? These kinds of questions were spreading through her brain like a wild fire "Maka-sama?" I looked at the direction of the voice and saw…Hana?
"What am I doing here, Hana-chan?" I asked her and she laughed "Papa said that you were so tired and you fell asleep while you were working at the coffee-maker shop" I laughed alittle at that then registered her words
Fell asleep while I was working….Wait, WHAT?!
I hopped off the princess-styled bed and rushed to go back at Joe's Café and bumped into Soul during the process.
"Whoa, where are you going?" I looked at him like he was an idiot, which he is "Going to work, where else Dummy?" I saw my apron hanging on a coat and made a grab for it but a calloused hand stopped me from doing so
"What are you doing?" it was his turn to look at like I was an idiot "Stopping you from going to work, Bookworm" he said like it was nothing but it was something to me "Let me go, I have to go to work and now. You know how much I really need the money" I scolded and tried to pry his hand off my arm
"Going to work looking like that? I don't think so" Soul pointed to a mirror hanging on the wall, I looked even worse than this morning so I caved in and sighed "Fine, I guess you're right" I hate saying that phrase…
"Good, at least we understand each other" Soul walked towards the kitchen with Hana tailing after him "Hey, could I use the bathroom?" Soul grunted a "Yes" and Hana told me where it is.
I found it and flicked on the lights "Wow" I breathed out
The walls were a nice sky blue and the tub was a nice pearl-white along with the toilet and the floor tiles. I stopped my gawking after a good 3 minutes and did my "business". I washed my face and cleaned it with some tissue paper.
"Oh no! Gah! What the heck?!" I ran to the booming voice only to see Soul trying to put out a fire on the pan "Well, I guess it's take-out again" he grumbled while I chuckled, startling him
I walked over and hip-bumped him out of the way then started collecting ingredients for making chicken curry "What are you doing?" I looked at Soul over my shoulder "Making lunch, what else do you think I'm doing? Making the Powerpuff girls or something?"
He held his hands up in surrender and walked in the living room to stay with Hana.
I started setting the table after I was done cooking. I held the plates in one hand and two glasses in the other, perks of being a waitress. I accidentally tripped on something and ended up ramming into Soul's chest making the plates fly, I held my hand out to try and catch them but was only successful catching two I looked around for the third one only to see in Soul's hand
He leaned until we were only a few centimeters apart "Watch where you're going" he said then leaned a bit closer and I suddenly found myself leaning in as well. He pulled back quickly when we heard the small thumps of Hana's feet.
"What smells so good?" I snapped out of my trance and continued setting the food for the table.
"It's, uh, Chicken Curry" I said with a small smile. We all ate in comfortable silence.
No One's POV
Maka stood up and started gathering the used plates and put it in the sink. She sighed and leaned against the counter as she replayed the scene before lunch, What am I thinking? He probably just did that to mess with me! Snap out of it. Maka scolded herself in her mind
"What's going on in your mind right now?" Maka looked up to see Soul leaning on the counter as well, since when did he get here?
"Nothing, just wondering where I could stay once I move out of Tsubaki's house" Soul looked at Maka weirdly "What makes you want to move out and so soon? Rushing isn't cool" Soul said as he stood up straighter
"Well, I was cleaning out the house while Blackstar and Tsubaki were away for another date and I somehow decided to clean out Blackstar's sock drawer and while doing so, I saw a ring and not just any ring, an engagement ring. So I thought, maybe I should move out because I started to feel like I'm invading their privacy which is why I'm doubling my work" Maka explained quickly
"Why don't you move in with me for a while?" Soul suggested
Maka nodded absent-mindedly and reran his words
Wait, what?!
