Chapter Seven

Once they landed, everybody were divided into different shuttles to fly down to Earth. Hannah sighed as she sat in the shuttle next to Spock and Uhura. McCoy was in the other shuttle looking after the injured and Captain Pike. Hannah looked over at the couple, "So, how long have you been dating my cousin, Uhura?"

Uhura playfully glared at Hannah, "It's none of your business, Captain."

Hannah laughed, "It kind of is, I mean, he's my only living blood relative. I have to make sure that you won't be a bad influence on him."

"I'm going to be a bad influence? Don't you mean yourself? Always breaking the rules and causing trouble." Uhura said laughing as well.

"Touché, Lt." Hannah said grinning. Spock looked between the two ladies who were on both his sides feeling uncomfortable about the playful argument about him.

When they reached Earth, Hannah made her way to her dorm room to clean up. After a long shower, she started to dress when she noticed bruises along her ribs. She quickly got dressed leaving her hair down and made her way towards the hospital where she knew McCoy would be. Standing outside the hospital doors, she took a deep breath and walked in. The first thing she did was look for a happy family receiving good news, seeing that had always calmed her nerves about being in the hospital thanks to McCoy. After a moment of seeing a happy moment, she spotted McCoy down the hall finishing up checking on a patient and she could tell that he was getting ready to leave. "Bones!"

Hannah quickly made her way towards him who had looked up at her in shock. "Anne? What are you doing here?"

"Uh…I'm here to get checked out. Since you know, I've been nearly choked to death, twice, beaten up, stranded on a cold planet, attacked by a wild alien animal and almost eaten, drenched in cold water, base jumping from a shuttle…" Hannah began listing off as McCoy began to chuckle before pulling Hannah into a bone crushing hug. "I'm tired of pushing you and everybody I care about away…so, me being here is my way of proving it to you."

McCoy smiled and nodded kissing Hannah deeply before leading her into a room to examine her for injuries. "Well, it seems you only have bruised ribs, nothing serious. Temperature is fine."

Hannah smiled, "Thanks Bones. Now can we get out of here? All these doctors around are giving me the creeps."

McCoy laughed before helping Hannah down from the table and leading her out of the building as they talked about random things. Later that night Hannah woke up not being able to sleep, she placed on the jacket that she kept from McCoy from when she was sick before walking out of the building to make her way over to McCoy's dorm. She placed in the code and saw McCoy sleeping in his bed. She quietly made her way towards him and light shook his arm. "Bones?"

McCoy grumbled as he opened his eyes to see Hannah standing before him in his jacket. He always wondered where that jacket went. "Anne? Whats wrong?"

"Can't sleep…" Hannah said sitting at the edge of the bed only to be pulled down by McCoy. She smiled as she moved closer to McCoy. "I love you, Bones…if Jim was alive, he would have liked you. I can see you two getting along really well."

"I love you too, Anne." McCoy said smiling as he wrapped his arms around Hannah's slim waist, "I probably would have liked your brother too, but if he's anything like you, he would have caused me trouble."

Hannah chuckled and nodded, "I met Spock from the future from when I was on Delta Vega."

"Really?" McCoy said looking down a Hannah who nodded.

"Apparently in his time, he and I were close…we were best friends." Hannah said clutching onto McCoy's grey shirt. "When Spock first called me, he said, 'Hannah Kirk-McCoy.'"

"Did he now?" McCoy said smiling at how well his last name fit with hers.

"Yup, and when I was Nero's ship, Nero called me by the same name. Older Spock said that my parents were still alive, and that my brother, Jim, was still alive to see me become Captain before he passed. My family was still alive, I wasn't alone." Hannah said as her eyes drifted close. Before McCoy could reply he heard Hannah's breathing even out. He smiled before tightening his grip on Hannah as he drifted off to sleep as well.

The next morning, Hannah quietly left McCoy's room and went to get ready for the day. She needed to find her Uncle Sarek and apologize. After she got dressed she walked outside searching. After an hour, she spotted her Uncle and ran towards him, "Uncle Sarek!"

Sarek turned around and nodded at his niece, Hannah. "Hello, Hannah."

Hannah panted softly as she winced at the pain from her ribs, "I'm sorry."

Sarek raised an eyebrow, "Sorry for what?"

Hannah sighed, "For everything. I'm sorry for how I treated Aunt Amanda, for ignoring her when all she wanted to do was help me. For not doing anything to save her. I'm also sorry about how I treated Spock, provoking him. Telling him that he never loved his mother. I'm sorry."

Sarek watched as tears fell down from Hannah's eyes, he cared about his niece, he placed a hand on her shoulder, "You are forgiven, Hannah. But you should know, your Aunt never held anything against you. She knew that you were angry and in pain over all that has happened to you in your life. Even though your Aunt has passed, I am still your Uncle, I will be here for you."

Two weeks later all the cadets were in the assembly hall, Hannah stood in front of the Assembly President who began talking, "This assembly calls Captain Hannah Kirk. Your inspirational valor and supreme dedication to your comrades is in keeping with the highest traditions of service, and reflect utmost credit to yourself, your crew and the Federation. It is my honor to award you with this commendation." The Assembly President grabbed a medal and placed it on Hannah. "By Starfleet Order 28455, you are hereby directed to report to Admiral Pike, U.S.S. Enterprise, for duty as his relieve."

Hannah shook hands with the man in front of her before turning to walk towards Admiral Pike who sat in a wheelchair. "I relieve you, sir." Hannah said standing at attention. From the audience, McCoy stared at Hannah proudly as she relieved Pike.

"I am relieved." Pike said looking at the young woman before him who he had always viewed as a daughter.

"Thank you, sir." Hannah said looking at Pike smiling.

"Congratulations, Captain Hannah Kirk." Pike said smiling as well holding his hand out to shake. "You father would be proud."

As soon as Pike and Hannah shook hand, the cadets bursted out into applause and cheers. Hannah smiled into the crowd and smiled even wider when she saw Spock Prime a couple of levels up on the balcony.

After everything was over, she ran into the young Spock, "Spock, I was just looking for you."

"Hannah, congratulations." Spock said nodding.

"Thanks." Hannah said smiling lightly before frowning, "I think this is a mistake, me being Captain."

Spock frowned at his cousin, "What do you mean?"

"I always saw Starfleet has mindless people, who can't think for themselves anymore. That they've been brainwashed into thinking one way. I'm afraid of becoming one of them. I don't want to loose myself, metaphorically."

Spock nodded, "My father once told me that I could either honor being human or honor the Vulcan ways. I chose to honor the Vulcan ways and purging all emotions. For you, you could either choose to keep your mentality and views or you can, as you call it, become a mindless person pressed to thinking one way. But I suppose it is possible to be both, when you were acting captain, I saw that you followed the rules but you also broke some to do what you thought was right. Being both is what will make you a great Captain, Hannah."

"So Bones, are you ready? The Enterprise is all patched up and ready for flight." Hannah asked dressed in her long sleeved captain gold uniform dress that stopped three inches before her knees and form fitting black legging with black boots, and her light brown hair in its usual loose pony tail.

"Yeah, yeah." McCoy grumbled, kissing Hannah before walking into the shuttle. Hannah laughed as she followed McCoy. Before they knew it they were in the Enterprise, Hannah made a quick stop in her living quarters before hurrying towards the bridge where the crew was giving status reports.

"Maneuvering thrusters and impulse engines at your command." Sulu said.

"Weapons systems and shields on standby." Chekov said looking up from his screen and towards Hannah who stood by the door.

"Dock Control reports ready, Captain." Uhura said smiling at her friend and Captain.

"Great." Hannah said walking in and towards McCoy who stood off to the side. "Bones, buckle up." McCoy rolled his eyes as Hannah moved to sit in the Captain's chair. She turned on the comlink. "Scotty, how are we doing?"

"Dilithium chamber's at maximum, Captain." Scotty said into the com, before shouting to his alien friend, "Get down!"

Hannah chuckled before turning off the com, "Mr. Sulu, prepare to engage thrusters."

Spock stepped out of the turbo lift and spoke to his cousin, "Permission to come aboard, Captain."

"Permission granted." Hannah said smiling at her cousin who she had started to get along with.

"As you have yet to select a first officer, respectfully I would like to submit my candidacy." Spock said as he walked towards Hannah how had already stood up. "Should you desire, I can provide character references."

"It would be my honor to have you as first officer, Commander." Hannah said smiling to her cousin. Spock nodded and gave Hannah a slight, almost invisible smile before walking to his station. "Maneuvering thrusters, Mr. Sulu." Hannah said sitting down smiling. "Take us out."

"Aye-aye, Captain." Sulu said getting ready to put the ship in warp. McCoy looked over at Hannah and noticed how happy and comfortable she was in the captain chair causing him to smile at the woman he loved. Yeah, this was going to be a great adventure, despite hating to be out in space.
