Chapter 9

She is the one.

Lightning stood outside the building, awaiting the transport to get there, all she could think about was the risks of Erin doing this mission.

"But Sir! I do not believe Erin is ready to do a mission of this magnitude! She had a relapse only a month ago! If she had another one while she was out there..."

Her Commanding officer looked at her, "I understand your worries about this Lightning, I really do, but there is no other way. She is the best person for the job, even you can't disagree with that."

Lightning sighed softly, "I agree Sir. But let me go in her place, I have far more experience in sensitive missions. I do not believe she has recovered enough to be able to undergo this unscathed or to complete the mission..."

Cid stepped forward, "You are the next possible candidate for the job, but we need someone who hasn't had a mission like this before so that they are able to see it at a different angle, so they can think outside of the box..."

The Commanding Officer cleared his throat, "It has already been decided, Erin will be the one who undergoes this mission, you will be on the side lines if she needs back up or if she has a relapse. This was a very hard decision for us, having witnessed her relapsing whilst she was in for a review only a few months ago and being informed of her relapse from last month. But it is a risk we have to take, this is the most important mission which Bodhum Security Regiment, no all of The Guardian Corps in that fact. I do not want you to get involved unless she has a relapse or she needs back up with the L'Cie. But with the risk of the Fal'Cie, if she gets too close, I want you to stay clear of her, no matter what, she may become a L'Cie and it would not be in your best interests to be close to a Pulse L'Cie, you are to sever all ties with her if this happens, you got that?"

Lightning looked up at the sky, it was starting to get really dark, "Easier said than done..." she muttered under her breath.

Four soldiers walked into the training room, all ready to do some extra training together, they stopped when they saw Erin sitting on the floor where the incident occured. They all looked at each other, then slowly started to back, Erin smiled, "You guys don't have to leave... I am going soon anyway..." She stood up, her eyes stopped at the most nervous looking one, his name was Liam Carson and he was the one who shot her.

He turned away, starting to walk out of the room, she ran past the other three, who were now looking even more nervous. She put her hand on Carson's shoulder, causing him to immediately stop, he started shaking. "What are you going to do to me?" he muttered.

She turned him around, "nothing, I am going to do nothing. You didn't mean to do it and to be honest, I don't hate you. I hope we can still be friends, I forgave you a long time ago..." her eyes were bright as she smiled, she lifted her fringe up and showed him the scar, "You made me into the person I am now! I take less risks and I think before I act, I also now know how it feels to be fired on. I am alive because you weren't aiming at my head, yes you may have hit me, but I am still alive."

He sighed in relief, "I thought you would hate me for the rest of your life, I am truly sorry again for hitting you, but you look pretty badass and cute at the same time with that scar." he blushed when he realised what he said.

She smiled, "Yeah... whatever you say..." she giggled slightly then gasped, "Oh Crap is that the time? I need to go! I will see you guys when I get back!" she ran out of the room, leaving them to chuckle.

She stopped just before the main entrance. Cid Raines stood at the door, he turned to look at her, "Hello again, Erin." he smiled slightly, "Your about to leave for the mission right?"

She nodded slowly, "Yes, I am. After the briefing, you looked as if you wanted to talk to me about something..."

He chuckled slightly, "Your very observant, aren't you? Yes I wanted to talk to you about something... I feel like you could do a lot better if you were to transfer to a different section of the Army-"

She adjusted her rucksack, "With all due respect Sir, I have no intention of leaving Bodhum, nothing you say can change that. This is my home and where my adopted family is. Nothing will make me leave this place. I belong here. Now, if you excuse me, I have a mission to get to..." She saluted and walked past him, walking out of the door.

Cid watched from the door as Erin smiled at Lightning and jumped into the back of the truck and sat next to each other. A couple other soldiers jumped in, Erin nodded as Lightning spoke to her.

Cid turned away as the drove off, pulling a cellphone out of his inside jacket pocket, flipping it open. He tapped a few buttons and put it to his ear, "It's me. She is the one." he closed the phone, returning the phone back to his pocket and walking away from the door.

Author Notes: Things have been altered to the story line to fit my fanfic. Please note this is a cross over of the two games. Please comment after you have read this fic, I would love to know what you think of it ^.^ - I had a slight case of writers block, but after bouncing ideas with a friend, I have now got my mind sorted out on how this is going. I know this chapter is short, but the next one is going to be a very long one!

Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy 13 or Final Fantasy 13-2 or any of the characters, except my own characters and this story line / parts of it. I will also be adding Lightning Returns to this as I have now played through it and I know where to take it with that part of the story, but that wont be for a while.
