*Eighth Grade Year*

Simon sat in the back of the library surrounded by his usual crowd of fan girls. He could feel the stares of the envious nerdy boys that occupied the library usually after school. He let out a chuckle as one of the girls cracked a joke. He then turned to check on his older brother, Derek, who he was supposed to be helping with a research essay.

Only instead of finding his brother researching he found his brother talking to a girl. She was a cute looking girl who was a bit on the thick side, but she wasn't all that bad looking. Amazed at this, Simon paid closer attention.

"I could help you if you want." The girl said. Derek stared at her not sure what to say.

"Here," the girl then pulled out a green sheet of paper and set it on the desk in front of Derek. "Miss Sheldon gave these to her students to help them write their essays. Hope it helps." The girl smiled at Derek and left her sheet of paper with him as she left.

Both Simon and Derek stared after her in confusion. What was that about, and who was that girl?

A few weeks later Simon came across the girl again. He passed her on the way to class as she was pulling things out of her locker. Not watching where he was going he nearly bumped into his sister, Tori.

"Watch it!" She shouted.

"Sorry." Simon quickly said looking back at June and hiding behind the small alcove of a class room door.

"Sorry? Since when are you one to apologize?" Tori quipped. Simon ignored her and kept looking over towards June.

"Hello! Space case!" Tori waved her hand in front of Simon's face receiving a glare from him, but then he quickly turned back to June who was now talking with someone.

Tori looked at Simon confused and checked out what he was looking at. She grew more confused as to why he was staring at the pudgy island girl from her honors class.

"What's with you and June?" She asked. Simon looked up at her in shock.

"You know her?" he asked. Tori only shrugged.

"I share a class with her. Why, what's the deal?" Tori asked automatically thinking that June could possibly be a client, or a target.

"She was helping Derek out with homework a few weeks ago." Simon said and Tori's expression fell.

"Are you fucking kidding? Derek never needs help with homework." Tori nearly shouted.

"I know!" Simon snapped at her. "So I thought the girl came up to Derek because she had this crush on him, but Derek told me that she was legit helping him."

"What?" Tori couldn't believe it.

Simon nodded looking back at June who was now gone. He sighed coming out of his hiding spot.

"So you're stalking her now?" Tori asked raising a brow. Simon scoffed.

"I don't have to stalk anyone. The girls come running to me." He said popping his collar. Tori rolled her eyes.

"You sure they aren't running away from you?" Tori replied.

"Ha ha." Simon then turned to her full seriousness. "I'll bet you that I can get June to come to me."

"Oh, really?" Tori said in disbelief.

"Yeah really!" Simon said challenging.

"I give you two weeks." She said. Simon's cool composure faltered a bit.

"You can't give me a time limit!" Tori smirked and began to walk away.

"I uh, just did." She shrugged and walked off. Simon growled after her getting a few looks from the other students. A bit embarrassed he made his way to his next class.

Two weeks later, Simon sat outside on the school's front steps while he waited for Derek to be done with his AP Chemistry test. Simon was going over all of his attempts at trying to get June's attention and how they all failed miserably.

He tried the "glance across the room" approach. It probably would have worked if she ever took the time to look at him. He then tried standing next to her locker while she grabbed things out of it. He even added a few loud coughs to get her attention, but to his luck she had her headphones in, and didn't even notice him standing there and walked off to class.

He even left a not in her locker to meet him there, but he later found out that she didn't even show up to school that day. He had tried everything and none of his methods worked. He was starting to think that could be gay or just plain oblivious. What kind of girl wouldn't notice a good looking guy like him?

Finally, he decided to go with a direct approach. Straightening out his shirt he walked up to her with his killer smile. She was leaning against the wall of lockers looking down at her phone texting. He was just about to call out her name when one of her friends walked right in front of him and grabbed her hand, pulling her away like there was a fire. What was with all the cock blocking!

"Ugh! Can't a guy catch a break?" Simon shouted to himself raking his hands through his hair. Now he's lost the bet with Tori, and who knows what the hell she will make him do.

"You weren't kidding, he is a bit strange." He heard a giggle behind him. Simon quickly got up and spun around to find his brother with a stupid smirk on his face, and standing next to him was…June?

"What?" Simon said to himself and looked between Derek and June who looked to be all buddy-buddy with each other. "Wait, did I miss something here?" Simon asked looking up at Derek. Since when did Derek hang out with June?

"Derek was just walking me out after our test." June explained.

"Wait, test? You take AP Chemistry too?" Simon asked.

"Mhm!" June smiled nodding and looked up at Derek. "We're lab partners." She gladly stated.

"Wait, you guys share the same class?" Simon also asked.

"How long do you plan on telling us to wait, Simon?" June asked teasing him.

"Uh," Simon replied flustered. She knew his name too? June giggled at his embarrassment.

"Are you walking home now, June?" Derek then asked. Simon looked at his brother in shock. He can talk to June casually now? When did that happen?

"Actually no, I'm meeting with Tori at Danny Boy's." June answered.

"Tori? As in our sister Tori?" Simon asked baffled.

"Yes." June replied slowly, not sure why Simon was making such a fuss.

"Are you tutoring her or something?" he asked crossing his arms. What was Tori planning with June?

"No, she just wanted to hang out." June shrugged while Simon's jaw dropped.

"Seriously? Since when where you and Tori friends?" he asked. June shrugged again.

"Well, about two weeks ago she asked for my help with an assignment, and then after that we just started hanging out."

"Two weeks ago?" Simon was practically steaming. He could just hear his sister's evil witch laugh right now.

"Would you guys like to join us?" June asked.

"No." Simon had answered but Derek smiled and nodded.

"Sure."

Simon stared at his older brother, not knowing what to be more surprised about. The fact that he just said yes to an invitation from a girl, or that he's willingly going to go hang out with Tori.

"What?" Derek asked seeing Simon's expression. He then walked with June down the steps and towards the Danny Boy's. Simon sighed rubbing his hand furiously in his hair.

Stomping down the stairs he joined his brother and June and made their wait to the diner down the street.

Tori sat at a booth with a smug grin on her face when she watched her two brothers and her new bestie walk into the diner. She loved seeing the irritation on Simon's face when he walked in. It was pure gold.

"Hi Tori." June smiled and took the seat next to Tori.

"Hey June, how did the test go?" Tori asked.

"Not sure, I'm hoping I passed." June said with a confident smile.

"Don't kid yourself, you studied really hard for that test, of course you passed." Tori replied and turned to Derek. "Right Derek?" Derek smiled and nodded in agreement.

"Thanks guys." June smiled just as an elderly waitress walked up to them.

"What can I get you kids?" she asked.

"The usual." Derek replied and she smiled at him quickly writing down "Bae special" on her pad.

"I'll have the pasta salad today, with raspberry lemonade." Tori replied, not even looking at the menu. The elderly waitress wrote that down as Simon ordered.

"I'll have a cheeseburger and some fries, with some mayonnaise packets on the side." The waitress nodded writing it down. Then the waitress looked at June and smiled kindly at her.

"Will it be the usual for you too dear?" June nodded.

"Thanks Linda." June replied. The waitress winked at her and left to place in the orders.

"Gee come here much?" Tori asked.

"My dad used to work here as a chef." June replied causing all of them to go completely silent.

"Why doesn't he still work here?" Simon asked. June smiled, but they knew that smile wasn't a very happy one.

"My dad died about three years ago to Cancer." It felt as if the whole diner went dead. June felt uncomfortable to leave it at that, so she continued. "My mom remarried before we moved here." And her smile fell a bit. She looked away trying to keep the tears back.

"Well at least she's happy now, right?" Tori then asked. June nodded looking down at her hands.

"Yeah, she's happy." She answered, but only Simon could see the pain written on June's face. What was it that June was hiding?

After a few minutes of Tori jabbering on about the party she wanted to throw for her best friend, Liz's, birthday the food finally came. Tori's salad and Simon's cheeseburger looked to die for. June had herself a grilled cheese sandwich with fries on the side with a small dish of mayonnaise, which everyone thought was weird. Derek's order consisted of two pieces of country fried steak with the sauce on the side, mashed potatoes and grave, with corn, peas, and carrots, and a chocolate milk shake and water to drink.

They all began to dig in, and June asked Tori for some ketchup. Tori stared at June confused as she gave her the bottle of ketchup. June squirted some ketchup into the small dish of mayonnaise she had, taking a fry and using it to stir the ketchup in with the mayonnaise.

"Ew, how do you and Simon eat that stuff?" Tori shook her head and looked away.

"What?" June asked looking at Tori, and then over to Simon who had done the same thing on his plate with his mayonnaise packets.

"It's fry sauce Tori. You can't have fries without some fry sauce." Simon said taking a fry and dipping it into the fry sauce before putting it into his mouth.

"Yes you can." Tori replied, a look of disgust on her face. June giggled taking a fry and dipping it into her fry sauce and eating it.

"Ew! You guys are so gross." Tori whined turning away. June, Simon, and Derek laughed at Tori's discomfort. Simon and June looked at each other before giving each other a high five.

After a few more months, June had become quite the close friend with the Bae siblings. All the girls envied her, and the guys started treating her differently. June didn't necessarily dislike the popularity, but she really wasn't one for so much attention.

One day Simon was walking out of the gym after a round of basketball with some of the guys after school. He decided to go outside to get a bit of fresh air only to find a group of three guys standing around. Simon would have ignored it if he didn't recognize that voice.

"Leave me alone!" June shouted ripping her arm away from the blonde guy, Liam.

"Why? We can pay you just as much as those Baes." The fatter one, Ramone, replied.

"I told you I'm not like that!" June shouted, feeling the tears at the back of her eyes.

"Sure, you're not. You don't got to lie to us babe, the Baes told us all about you." The bulkiest one, Royce, said.

"You're lying!" June shouted, the tears running down her face. Suddenly, Liam pushed her up against the side of the building making her gasp as she held her there. He had a grip around her neck while he pressed his body up against her, shoving her feet apart.

"They even said we could take a few rounds with you, on the house." Liam laughed menacingly and ran his hand up her shirt.

"Stop it!" June screamed, but Liam continued.

"Hey!" Simon shouted at them once he finally got up to them. The three of them turned to look at Simon, but Liam still pressed himself against June.

"Let her go!" He ordered. Royce snickered walking up to him.

"What you gonna do ab-" suddenly Simon punched Royce in the face cutting him off mid-sentence and making Royce stumble back.

"You little shit!" Royce shouted in fury, cupping his already swelling cheek. He then charged at Simon throwing punches but Simon dodged each one.

Ramone then came into the fight, grabbing Simon from behind. Simon struggled, but Ramone's grip was too strong. Liam took a step back, giving June a chance to escape.

"Simon!" June shouted taking a step towards Simon. Liam acted quickly and grabbed June and slammed her against the building again.

"Shut up!" Liam then slapped June so hard that she fell to the ground. June sniffled trying to keep herself from crying, but Liam grabbed her once more and pulled her up.

"It would have been so much easier if you would have just put out." He growled at her, and threw her on the ground harshly, causing her to land on awkwardly on her arm.

"Let's go guys." Liam called to his friends who were now using Simon as a punching bag. With one last punch in the gut from Royce, Ramone dropped Simon and left with a few cheerful shouts.

Simon fell to the ground grabbing his sides and keeling over. Those punches weren't strong enough to break anything, but they did leave a sting.

"Simon?" June called getting up as quickly as she could, wincing at the sudden pain in her arm. Trying to ignore it she got up and made her way over to Simon. "Are you okay?" She asked kneeling next to him as he coughed.

"I'm fine; those guys couldn't do much damage to me. What about you?" he asked looking up at her and his eyes went wide.

Her right cheek was red and swollen, and her lip was split. Not to mention that she was holding her arm close to her body.

"God, look at what they did to you." Simon's hands shook as he pushed her hair back to get a better view of the damage.

"It's okay; I've been in worse condition." She tried for a joke, but that didn't comfort Simon.

"What is that supposed to mean?" June stopped grinning and shook her head.

"Nothing."

"June." Simon looked at her, almost begging her to tell him but as he looked into her eyes he could tell that there was fear holding her back.

"C'mon, let's get you cleaned up." He said and helped her up.

He took her into the boy's bathroom, locking the door so none of the other guys could come in and mended her wounds. He grabbed a couple wads of toilet paper and put them under the water to get them wet. She sat up on the sink's counter facing Simon.

He wiped away the blood from her lip and placed an ice pack from the Coach's office on her cheek. Simon worked on her carefully, making sure not to hurt her. June watched him work, her heart pounding loudly in her chest and she hoped that Simon couldn't hear it.

"Let me get a look at your arm." He said. June was wearing a black buttoned up blouse with long sleeves, for him to see her arm she would have to unbutton her shirt.

Like a gentleman, Simon turned around so that his back was facing her. June stared at his back for a few seconds before working on the buttons on her shirt. She fumbled a few times only able to use one hand since she couldn't really move her other arm. Placing her blouse in front of her to cover up she cleared her throat.

Simon turned back around and got a look at her rose colored cheeks and vulnerable expression. She clutched her shirt against her and he could only make out the thin blue straps of her bra. Shaking himself out of it, he walked up to her and examined her arm.

He pressed his thumb against the area around her wrist but she didn't do anything. It wasn't until he tried bending her wrist did she cry out.

"Well good news is it's not broken. Bad news is it's sprained pretty badly." Simon had figured as much before and grabbed the brace he took from Coach's office as well. He placed it on June's wrist telling her to be careful with her wrist and not to strain it. June nodded and Simon turned around again so that she could get dressed.

When she was done hopped off the counter and tapped Simon's shoulder.

"Um, thank you, for what you did." She said looking up at him but once she saw him smile at her she couldn't take the rapid beating of her heart and looked away. "That was very brave of you." She added.

"June." Simon called out. "If you ever need me, I'll be right there. You don't have to worry." Simon made that promise, and with those kind words June lost all control. She felt the tears began to drip down her face again, but instead of getting teased by Simon he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her.

"You don't have to hide your tears from me. I don't want you to." He said to her, and in reply June wrapped her arms around Simon accepting his comfort.

After that day the Bae siblings and June agreed to keep their friendship a secret. June didn't like the attention anyway, and Simon figured it would be the best way to protect her from now on. But as the days past both Simon and June felt something missing. After spending so much time together it almost felt unnatural to be apart.

On the last day of their eighth grade year they decided to go out to celebrate Tori's and Derek's graduation from freshman, and going on to the high school. They decided to have a beach party and went to the lake. Liz had joined them and was just getting aquatinted with June.

"So, what will you be doing over the summer?" June asked.

"Hitting the beaches, parties, hanging out, you know fun stuff." Liz smiled. "What about you?"

"Well, um…" June didn't want to sound boring. All she had planned was staying home and reading.

"She's hanging with us this summer." Tori said walking up to them.

"Really?" Both Liz and June asked, but Liz sounded more excited than June did.

"Well duh, how else will you and Simon go out?" Tori said rolling her eyes.

"Wait, what?" June asked. Tori's eyes widened.

"What? He hasn't asked you out yet? What the hell?" She shouted turning around and going off in search for Simon. June quickly got up and Liz soon followed.

"Hold up! Tori!" June ran after Tori not sure what Tori had just said. "What do you mean asked me out yet?" June asked catching Tori.

"God, June, you really can't be this clueless. Simon's go the hots for you, and by the look at your flustered face I'd say you like him too." Tori said crossing her arms.

"Wait a minute, Simon told you he likes me?" June asked. Tori rolled her eyes and grabbed June by the shoulders.

"June, I'm only going to say this one more time, so listen closely." She said slowly. "Simon really likes you."

A slow grin began to grow on June's face as well as a bright red blush. Her heart began to beat out of her chest and she couldn't hold it in.

"Shut up!" June said smiling from ear to ear making Tori and Liz laugh. "I have to go find him!" June said quickly and turned to run down the beach.

"You're just the little match maker, aren't you?" Liz commented wrapping her arm and Tori's shoulders.

"It's about time Simon finds someone that makes him happy." Tori sighed. "Listen to me; I'm starting to sound like my dad!" Tori shivered a bit disgusted making Liz laugh.

June ran down the beach looking for Simon. She found him standing on the beach skipping rocks by himself. She walked up to him and only stood next to him not saying anything, and just watched his rock skipping skills.

"It helps me think." Simon said after a while and June nodded.

"Can I try one?" She asked. Simon looked down at his stash of rocks picking up a pretty flat rock and handed it to her.

June threw it just like she watched Simon do but it only sunk into the lake. Simon laughed while June pouted a bit embarrassed.

"Here, I'll help you." He said and walked up behind her placing another flat rock in her hand. Placing his hand on her waist, and taking her other hand on his he showed her how to skip a rock.

"And you just flick your wrist." He said and she did as he instructed getting one skip before it sunk.

"It'll take practice." He said but she was smiling none the less.

She picked up another rock, one with a flat surface and began to skip rocks too. "What is it that you need to think about?" June asked, and Simon stood there with his hands in his pockets watching June practice.

"A lot of things." He replied.

"Like?" June asked continuing to throw the rocks.

"Summer, events, people," he then looked at her. June looked back at him and looked down at the rock in her hand.

"Could I help?" She asked tossing the rock into the lake.

"Not much you could help with." He said and June bit her lip looking up at him.

"You know I'll miss you during the summer." She blushed, causing Simon to blush as well.

"Yeah, me too. I mean you. I mean, I'll miss you…too." He rubbed the back of his head nervously. June smiled turning to look at him.

"Simon, I…I'm glad I got to meet you and your siblings this year." She smiled having him smile in return. "I know it's going to be weird to go to school without Tori and Derek now, but you have me." June said. Simon looked down at her not really sure what she was meaning.

Not sure what else to do, June took in a deep breath to calm the butterflies in her stomach and her rapid heart rate. She closed her eyes slightly; looking at Simon's parted lips as she leaned into him.

Simon watched June lean into him, his heart feeling like it's been running millions of miles, and his nerves start to get to him. He closed his eyes too, and leaned in towards her.

Their lips met, and an exciting spark ignited inside both of them spreading heat throughout their bodies. Simon's hand came up to cup the side of her face while June gripped onto his shirt as he continued to kiss her. Neither of them were able to pull away from each other until they needed breath.

June pulled back first practically panting and her legs feeling like jelly. Simon's mind was racing to say something. Anything!

"Damn." Was the only word he could sputter. June giggled and he smiled feeling stupid.

June then ran her fingers through his hair biting her bottom lip wanting another kiss. Simon didn't hesitate before kissing her again, this time pulling her against him. Yes, this was definitely going to be a great summer.

*Present Time*

It was raining outside and June was staring out Chloe's bedroom window reminiscing about the past. Her fingers rubbed against her lips still remembering that boy's lips against hers. Those magical moments they had shared still lingered inside her mind. Without realizing it June reached down for her necklace, but felt it missing. She looked down to see where it went but then remembered that she had given it to Tori. With a sigh, June brought her knees up and leaned against the wall and continued to stare out the window.

Chloe watched her dear friend, pained by just looking at her. Last night after they had left the party June became a complete mess of herself. She couldn't stop crying on the way home, and once she came out of the shower she curled up in bed and didn't speak a word. Now, she sat there staring out into the rain.

This was too depressing of a scene, even for Chloe. But she wasn't sure what to do for her friend. There was only one person she knew that could possibly know how to brighten this girl's day. This called for a little road trip.

A/N: It was a little filler chapter, thought you guys deserve a little background story with June and Simon. Alright, it was more feeding my need to fill in their past, but hey you got an interesting chapter out of it.

With their past you would think Simon and June would be inseparable. Tell me the reason why you think they broke up. Hmmm…let's make it a competition.

The person who comes up with the most interesting reason, and the person who comes up with the closets reason why they did break up will get to be written into the story. I will PM the winners and discuss the characters they will add to the story. How's that sound?

Alright, that's it for now! Leave a review, comment, share it with your friends, and then some. Hope you all enjoyed and as always…Safe Sailing Fanfictioneers!
