Tell me what you think.

The keys on the piano felt cold, as cold as he felt in fact. They felt hard and cold against his fingertips. No one had touched it when he bought it a year ago, he had thought that Elijah would have but even he was far too busy having his own affair with his least favorite doppelganger to indulge himself in it.

Slowly, he played the tune he memorized in his head. His fingers were moving swiftly and effortlessly against the keys as the melody flowed throughout the entire mansion. From then on, he never played another song again. Just the same song, over and over again. Each and everyday…whenever he had free time on his hands, when Olivia was asleep or off at school, or she would be with Elijah or Rebekah and he was alone, he would sit at this piano, and just play.

This had started recently, a couple of months ago to be exact and he's never stopped playing the melody since then. It didn't sooth him, it didn't give him any kind of comfort at all. It was a depressing melody but the lyrics fit one moment in his life that he will be cursed to never forget.

He remembered the first time he heard the song. He took Olivia out for a walk in the Quarter, not letting her see the three hybrids following them of course. He watched as her eyes glistened in amusement of the music and the dancing around her and he smiled at it, allowing her happiness to warm him, even for a moment.

That's when he heard it, even among the noise that was playing, he heard a little radio that stood outside someone's window play this song, this one song and immediately, his entire body ran cold and hard as stone, the dried tear ducts in his eyes were suddenly moistening and the heartache and pain that came with the horrifying memory came to him instantly, for the first time in years and suddenly, he didn't feel like sight seeing anymore.

He would have Elijah or Rebekah carry her another day, he thought. He needed to go somewhere, anywhere but not while she was around. His daughter never saw him sad. Angry, yes, upset, of course and even annoyed but never sad.

He went home immediately and sent Olivia off to Elijah's company for the remainder of the night while he allowed two drops of tears to fall freely from his eyes.

Then he shed no more.

From then on, the melody of that one song had stuck in his mind, along the memories and heartache that came with it. Bleeding all of his organs first and foremost before his heart. Then doing it all over again.

He learned that the name of the song was 'Say Something'.

He then decided to buy a piano for some reason. He couldn't really tell why he wanted a piano, but he bought one. Of course Olivia wanted to take lessons and he allowed her. Making Rebekah, who was more than happy to oblige him to take her and bring her back. She played for him a couple of time, the little she did learn and he was proud of her. She learned quickly.

He often allowed her to sit next to him when he played now. She wouldn't say anything, she would stare at his fingers as if they were the most magnificent things on this planet. He would know because he knew that look, he often wore that look at Olivia…but he also looked at someone like that, like she was the most beautiful creature of all and nothing on this planet could outshine her.

Suddenly, she got more interested in his face, rather than his fingers, he didn't see her look at him, his gaze was elsewhere, not in front of him but in a distance, somewhere… his eyes often blurred but he would blink and they would be cleared and he would see again.

Then one day, Olivia sat next to him while he played. He made no move to welcome her with a smile or his gaze. She knew he knew she was there.

Then he felt her tiny little fingers under his eyes and he was snapped back to reality and he looked down to her. Her hands were wet. He was confused. Then his gaze locked to the keyboards and they had water droplets.

He was crying without even realizing it.

He remembered the one question, the one question that till this day, he was unable to answer. The answer would cause more pain than the question did.

"Why are you crying daddy?"

He merely smiled at her and kissed her forehead. She hugged him and he felt her love, her warmth and he basked in it. He desperately needed it. He was choking on his own pain and misery.

She then called out to Rebekah, something about having a tea party with her and ran off, leaving him with the piano, the melody and his sorrows.

Elijah was puzzled at first. Well he wasn't, he knew Niklaus had learnt how to play the piano hundreds of years ago, but what confused him was his choice of music to play. He had never heard it before. It was baffling to him really.

Then in the days that followed, nothing changed. It was the same Melody, over and over and over again. Like a broken record. It wasn't annoying to him. It was beautiful, but if his brother kept playing the same song over and over like clockwork everyday, then that meant something.

He couldn't exactly outright ask Niklaus about his choice of song or even attempt to look for it. He knew little about it. Until one afternoon, while Olivia was attending school, his sister had entered the study and sat next to him with a device in her hand and headphones in her ears and Niklaus was playing the melody yet again.

"Rebekah" he called, she looked up at him and pulled the earphones out of her ears.

"Do you know the melody he's playing?" he asked, knowing that he didn't have to clarify the person he was speaking of.

She rolled his eyes at him and put the headphones back on and scrolled through the device, ignoring him. Sometimes he wondered where this bratty persona his sister picked up on but he never questioned it. Believing it to be a mask for other to cower in her presence. There were times it bordered on annoying and this was one of those times.

He watched as she sat back up, pulled the headphones from her ears and pushed it in front of him. Confused, he looked at her with a questioning gaze, she snorted.

"You asked for it now listen" she snapped at him, shoving them closer to him. He took it cautiously and placed them gently in his ears and listened, really listened.

The song, itself seemed sad. The lyrics itself felt like a story to him, he added his brother to that story to attempt to figure out the reason for the sudden change in Niklaus's behavior.

To him, it sounded odd. Putting Niklaus into the lyrics of the song suggest that he said something that needed a response but he got none. If this was the case, he didn't know what or who this person was or the question, neither the reason why there was no response to said question.

The sound ended and he pulled the headphones off, looking at Rebekah, for some sort of answers, anything really but the look of incredulous on her face suggested that whatever she knew, he was suppose to know as well but she seemed shock that he didn't know.

"Are you so caught up in your own affair with Katherine that you have been blind this entire time!" Now that he knew was uncalled for. Mainly because he did not want Niklaus to know of his affair but some part of him believed that Niklaus has known long before so only hearing it won't change much.

"Our brother has been in love with one woman for 7 years Elijah, you've claimed to want redemption for him, but you've failed to see who that redemption is" she then took her device and marched out of the study immediately, leaving him confused and guilty.

He told himself, oh so many years ago that he'll move on, he had a kingdom to rule, an heiress to raise and protect and he would move on, he would find a way to move on, make a way to move on if he had to.

And he did, well he had.

He's been in love with Olivia since the day she was born. The newest light of his life, that little girl had been his reason to survive, his reason to live, his hope, his joy…and he invested all of his free time, when not ruling a kingdom, into her and whatever she desires.

He never hid who he was from her, well he did but he hid the bad parts, the killing he does, the torture, the blood spilling, none of it had room in her life and he would make sure that it didn't. She does know that he's special. No she didn't know has a vampire, she knew he was stronger than the average human male, faster, much faster and he was able to do things that no man can, well human man can. She promised him that she would never tell anyone his secret and she never did.

But this melody, that song, it poisoned him. His heart was bleeding black, his mind was slowly breaking down…he often saw glimpses of her face in the windows but he knew it wasn't her, those faces smiled at him, Caroline doesn't smile at him, she frowns, she pouts, she shows him indifference and anger, but never truly smiles.

For some reason this hard truth haunts him more than the melody ever did. Knowing that he's never made her truly smile, not a half way smile or a fake one but a real smile, hurt him deeply.

Well he had done it once but it was a laughter, not really a smile. He made her laugh, that was his greatest accomplishment that day, making her laugh, seeing the joy all over her, the sun didn't need to shine that day, she was the sun on her own, she could brighten the planet with her laughter if she wanted.

She had made him smile more than he ever had in his life. Which was a rare sight to behold he was told, but she did it effortlessly and with pride.

God he missed her

He missed her smell, he missed her golden hair bouncing around him with life and light. He missed her smile that could make a depressed man smile. He missed her eyes, they were so expressive and bright. The twinkle in her eyes resembled the twinkle in Olivia's when she saw something for the first time. He missed her presence. You could just tell that the day would be a wonderful day, knowing that she was around and smiling. She was infectious. He missed her warmth. The way his heart would leap and his body would welcome her touches, or when the pounding in his heart thundered against his chest at her feather liked kisses, on his cheeks of course.

He just missed her. He just missed her

But she had made her decision, she rejected him and he has to live with it, he has to move on, for his sake, for Olivia's sake, he needed to, it was no longer a want to move on because his body, his mind and his heart didn't agree with it, they didn't want to move on but he need to.

Speaking of Olivia…

He looked down at his phone sitting next to him, it was 4pm.

Olivia's school finishes at 2:30pm.

She was suppose to be at home already.

His heartrate quicken and his mind worked into overdrive at the possible things that might have happened to her.

Before he could think about calling his hybrids and promising them a slow death if they did not find her or return her home immediately, his cell phone ringed.

He didn't bother to check the ID, he just answered "Where is she!" he roared.

The hybrid seemed to have realized the true danger the little girl was in and his own life so he replied softly "I don't know"

There was silence before he heard "WHAT!"

"I spoke to her teacher and she said that the girl never came to school to begin with" he explained, wondering how a little girl, a little six year old girl managed to pull one on all three of them and endanger their lives in the process.

Klaus's foot stomped on the seat he once took occupant on in front of his piano, breaking it in two and took a couple of breaths before stating ever so calmly "Find her and return her to the mansion in the next thirty minutes or I will kill everyone you've ever greeted before torturing you until I see her again, then I'll scatter ALL OF YOUR REMAINS AROUND THE BLOODY PLANET" he shouted the last part before hanging up and throwing the phone against the wall, noting when it split in two and fell to the ground.

He heard his sibling enter the room but far too angry to say or even acknowledge their presense at all.

"What the bloody hell is going on?" Rebekah shrieked at him and Elijah just stood with a bored look on his face.

He wanted to throw something at them both for not even realizing it.

"What time is it Rebekah darling?" he asked, ever so calmly, without even turning in her direction.

"It's after 4…" she paused as if realizing what was wrong.

"Olivia…" Elijah trailed off, horror clear on his facial features, if it wasn't clear from his body reaction already.

Before any of them could make a move, the front door had opened and a little voice was heard "Daddy, I brought a friend home!"

They were all on guard awaiting this friend when none other than Caroline Forbes stood before them, looking even more scared that they had been.

Caroline looked like she was cornered and was about to be eaten alive by three Originals, one of them being the little girl's father.

"She called me a week ago, I don't know how she got a phone or my number and asked me come visit, she told me who she was and I knew that if I didn't come to her, she would have come to me…" she tried to explain but everyone was speechless, including Klaus, especially Klaus.

"Olivia, you had us worried sick!" Rebekah scolded, not even bothering to acknowledge the girl, mainly because Rebekah had told Olivia about Caroline in an effort to shut her up about Klaus's sudden mood change but it seems that in the hours went that her phone had went missing, Olivia had stolen it and must have made a call.

"I'm sorry…" her voice alone told them as such.

"Come, Olivia, let's have a chat about sneaking off…" Elijah trailed off with a little smile, as if everything clicked in his head in that time "Lovely to see you again Ms. Forbes"

Caroline nodded at him and Olivia went to Elijah's side in confusion "You know Caroline…?"

"We all had the pleasure of meeting her" Elijah replied, lifting the little girl into his arms "Niklaus more than the rest of us I'll assume"

Elijah walked off with Olivia but her voice stopped him "Wait! Caroline, you promised me that you'll stay to play with me"

Caroline nodded at her and watched as she threw at beaming smile at her and allowed Elijah to take her away.

Then Rebekah to turn to Klaus "In my defense…"

Klaus's head snapped to Rebekah's instantly.

"She kept asking why you kept playing that song so I told her a story to put her to sleep, I didn't know she would steal my phone and call her"

When she was met with silence and a deathly 'I'll dagger you if you don't leave' look, she flashed away as quick as possible, leaving the two alone.

They then both stared at each other, both seemed lost for words, Klaus more than her. He accepted the fact that he would never see her again, his mind and his pencil didn't but he did, yet she stood in front of him, as beautiful as ever in her little yellow sun dress and white heel, hair curled to perfection and a glow to her that he always admired and often basked in.

Then he remembered the rejection, the subtle but obvious rejection and then his body turned away from her, preparing his voice to speak with indifference and coldness, his body to remain upright and still and his eyes to remain hard and demanding to whatever would escape her lips…He was prepared for whatever she had to say…

"I love you"

He wasn't prepared for that.
