Author's Note: Hi, this chapter is more of a set up for the next one, not a lot of action, but necessary to reach it. like Pirate of the Caribbean 2. anyway, hope you like it.
Chapter 10:
General POV:
Nevel Papperman sits on his couch dreaming. He dreams of riches, and fame, but mostly of Carly Shay. In his dream he destroys iCarly once and for all, he marries Carly and the two become rich Internet stars. It was actually quite a nice dream, in Nevel's opinion anyway. That is why he is very annoyed when he is woken from it by a loud knock at the door. He gets up from his spot on the couch and moves to the door quickly, he opens it to find a man taller than himself, with a black sport coat over a white shirt and black pants.
"Nevel Papperman?" asks the man.
"Who wants to know?" Nevel replies quickly.
"My name is Cal," Says the man, "and let me start by saying I know who you are and what you can do."
"Oh, and what can I do, exactly?" asks Nevel, trying to get all the information out of the man as he can.
"You can do great things," says Cal, "you have amazing talent," he continues, causing Nevel to smirk. Suddenly, Cal seems to implode on himself and disappears. Again Nevel hears Cal's voice, but this time whispering to him from behind. "And you have super abilities." Whispers Cal's voice Nevel hears a rush of wind and Cal appears in front of him again.
"Wha-what do you want?" asks Nevel hesitantly.
"I have a proposition for you." Cal says smoothly and suddenly all of Nevel's concerns about Cal vanish, and a sly smirk forms on his face.
"What did you have in Mind?"
Sam's POV:
I hit the wall of the school and break the plaster. I try to stand but feel weakened. I look up to see the Ape; Gibby has transformed and is destroying everything in his sight. I attempt to fight back, but feel powerless, the Ape grabs me and throws me into a locker, which bends and distorts under the force of the blow. Suddenly, Freddie runs in front of me and is trying to reason with the Ape. I can tell by looking at him that he is not using the robot, but is actually here. The Ape stops in front of him and looks at him as if he is considering what Freddie is saying, and then grabs Freddie in his paws and brings him up to his mouth. The Ape puts Freddie's head in his mouth and tears it off. He discards Freddie's body and blood pours from the open gash where Freddie's head should be.
I wake up screaming. I look around me, I'm in Freddie's room, in his bead, but he's not here. I remember getting in an argument last night and making him sleep on the couch. Yeah, even at his house, he sleeps on the couch when we argue. At that moment, the door flies open and Freddie steps in, his head firmly connected to his shoulders.
"Sam, what's going on?" he asks in a panic. I look up at his worried eyes, looking me over to make sure I'm okay. I get up from the bed and walk over to him slowly. "Sam? What're you doing?" he asks even more worried for himself as I continue to walk toward him slowly. I get up to him and wrap my arms around his neck and pull him close for a hug.
"I don't want to fight, I couldn't stand to lose you." I whisper into his shoulder, I don't know if he heard me, but he got the message from the hug. We continued to hold each other for about two minutes when a familiar smell reaches my nose. "Is that…" I pause to sniff the air, "Bacon?" I ask Freddie looking at him expectantly.
"Yep, Carly invited us over for breakfast, so get dressed and we'll head over." He says. I run back into his room and change as fast as I can. I storm out of his room and drag Freddie across the hall. We reach Carly's apartment and we knock.
"Hey guys." Carly says as she opens the door. She leads us to the table and we sit down to enjoy our breakfasts. As we walk in we pass Spencer sitting at the couch watching the news.
"What's going on here?" I ask gesturing at Spencer.
"He's waiting to see if this Swedish guy broke his world record for most moving parts in a sculpture." Carly explains.
"Why not just check online?" Freddie asks.
"Our computers can't connect to the internet for some strange reason." Carly says and we sit down next to Spencer with our bacon to see if his record is broken, but a much more interesting news story comes up first.
"In some sadder news, Missy Robinson, a local teenager, who was reported missing last week, was found gunned down in an alley this morning, we go to Jamie Maxwell for the whole story, Jamie?" the news anchor says and the camera switches to a reporter in front of an alley.
"Thanks Tom, I'm standing here in front of an alley between Main Street and Blossom road, where the body of Missy Robinson has been found shot in both of her legs and once in the head." The reporter informs the world, his voice wavering slightly with emotion. "Forensic units have determined that the young woman shot in the legs while trying to escape her attacker. The accuracy of the shots leads police to believe that the killer was skilled with their firearm."
"That's very unfortunate to hear Jamie, is there anything else?" asks the news anchor.
"Yes Tom, three letters were found written on the victim's left hand. The letters 'CAL' were written in pen on her hand, Police have yet to comment on any possible meaning to the letters." The reporter went on a little longer but none of us were listening anymore.
"Oh my God." Spencer whispers under his breath. "That poor girl."
"I know she was mean, but that's too bad." Carly adds. I'm about to say 'Good riddance.' But stop myself in time. I can't feel sorry for her, every time I think of her, I think of how she overwhelmed all those people and tried to take Freddie from me. But only Freddie and I remember all of that, everyone who was taken over seems to have forgotten that it even happened, including Carly. Still, being gunned down in an alley is not how anyone wants to go out of this world, and no one deserves to, not even Missy. A 'ping' noise comes from Freddie's phone and at the same time, a news story about kittens and peanut butter is interrupted.
"This just in, a man is holding a laundromat Hostage in downtown Seattle, Police are trying to reason with the man, who appears to be an escaped mental patient from Troubled Waters correctional institution." Says the news anchor. I look to Freddie and he nods getting my message, I look over at Carly and she nods as well and we all stand to go.
"Where are you guys going?" asks Spencer and we all look at him, I had completely forgotten he was even here until just now and judging by the looks on Carly and Freddie's faces, they forgot too.
"Uh. We're just going to go get some…" Carly starts but trails off.
"Fladoodles." I finish her sentence for her.
"Fladoodles?" asks Spencer.
"Yeah, Fladoodles, we were all taking yesterday about how good they were when Mandy got them and we decided to go look for some." I improvise.
"Oh, okay, get me some of those cool ranch ones if you find them." Spencer says and leaves the room. Carly and I grab our masks and I take off my necklace, Freddie made me a replacement after I put that other one on Missy and it might be noticed if I keep it on during any hero work. Carly and I head for the elevator while Freddie goes into his apartment. Carly and I go into an alley and put on our masks, gloves and turn off our bracelets. We head for the laundromat and listen for Freddie in our heads.
"Are you two ready?" says his voice in my head.
"Yes, where are you?" I reply.
"Look up." Whispers his voice. I look up and see a dark shape jumping from building to building.
"Well, aren't we mysterious looking?" I thought to him
"I was going for a kind of 'Batman' thing you know." He says.
"Well, it works for you." I tell him.
"Guys, I can hear all of this and it is really creeping me out." Carly's voice says in my head. At this point we'd reached the laundromat and came up to the back door. I grab the handle and tear it off the door. We enter quietly and sneak into the main room where a man in a bathrobe slippers and pajamas is holding a gun to a woman's head. Another man is lying on the ground, he's not breathing and blood is pooling around his head.
"I swear to god I'll do it, I'll kill her just like I killed your little soldier that you sent in earlier." Yells the man in the bathrobe.
"Jack, calm down." calls a voice from out front that sounds like it's coming through a megaphone. "No one has to get hurt, we just want to talk to you."
"No, you want to send me back, I'm never going back! Never!" Jack screams at the window and the woman cringes and whimpers as he yells.
"Carly," I hear Freddie address her in my head, "Do you think you can get between those two before he can do anything."
"Possibly, I can get to him with out being noticed, but if I try to get between them, he might pull the trigger." I hear Carly responds with her thoughts.
"If you have to, cut off his hand." Freddie says, "This lunatic is not going to kill any more innocent people." Carly doesn't respond, she just presses a button on her bracelet and her blade silently emerges. It all happens before I can blink, at one moment Carly is next to me, then she's not, suddenly a spurt of red shoots from the man's hand and something hits the ground with a dull thud. The man screams out as blood sprays all over the windows. The woman shrieks but is too frightened to move. Outside a man shouts 'Now' and a flash bomb smashes through the window, landing at the woman's feet. I jump into action and land on the bomb. It explodes under me and I'm thrown back. I stumble backward, unable to see or hear, suddenly I feel tired, very tired. Maybe I'll just lie down for a quick nap. I fall to the ground and drift off into darkness.
Nevel's POV:
That Cal person was right, that psycho he got out of troubled waters was all we needed and 'The Heroes' showed up. The plan is simple, wait fro one of them to be knocked off their feet and find out who they are. I sit behind a line of washing machines and wait, I watch as a red blur takes off the maniac's hand and a flash bomb comes in through the window. I'm about to shut my eyes when 'Blue Mask' jumps on the bomb. It explodes under her and she is thrown onto her feet, she stumbles toward me and I see my opportunity. I move quickly to her and put my hands on both sides of her head. I use my power and put her to sleep. She falls to the ground, and I grab the base of her mask, I pull it up and smile at the face I see, I've seen it often enough to know her face anywhere. I quickly pull her mask back down and move back and slip past 'Black Mask' toward the exit. I run out and out onto the main street, I grab my phone and call the number he gave me.
"What did you find?" he asks after when he answers the phone.
"I saw under one of their masks, I know who they are." I tell him, careful not to mention whom they actually are.
"Good, you know what to do." he says and hangs up. I smile at the thought and start off toward my new destination, Bushwell Plaza.
Freddie's POV:
"Sam!" I shout and run over to her collapsed form. It's not until I reach her that I realize that I called out her real name. A paramedic runs up to us and puts his hand on my shoulder.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of her." I look around and I see all the people in the laundromat, the police rushed in and a few of the people ran out the door as soon as they could. A few other paramedics are treating the mental patient and Carly is standing in a corner watching as it all unfolds. The next thing I know, Carly, Sam and I are surrounded by heavily armored police officers pointing their guns at us.
"You are under arrest for vigilantism, assault, destruction of public property and endangering your own lives and the lives of others." Says one of the officers. "You will remove your masks and come with us now." I sit there taking all of this in, Sam unconscious in front of me, police officers trying to arrest us, and a paramedic attempting to take Sam from me.
"No." I say to the officer who'd spoken to me.
"What?" asks the officer in astonishment.
"No." I repeat.
"Grab him." orders the officer and one of them reaches out and ruffly grabs my arms. He pulls me to my feet and I see another officer try to grab Carly, but jumping back upon seeing her large blade.
"Drop your weapon!" the man commands her. She looks around unsure of what to do. I look down to see the paramedic checking Sam's pulse and reach for her mask. "Drop it now!" yells the officer now raising his gun at Carly.
"No." I whisper and the man pushes me forward. "I said NO!" I yell I send off a mental wave, it hits the surrounding officers and they all fall down unconscious, the others point their weapons at me and open fire, the bullets rip through my metal skeleton and I advance on them slowly. I grab one and throw him into another. "Grab her and run!" I order Carly. She runs past the police and grabs Sam, she hauls her out of the laundromat and away. I continue to struggle with the police. One grabs my left arm and another grabs my right. I bring my arms together and the two fall down, one points his rifle at me and pulls the trigger. The bullets hit and bounce off of me. I walk up to him, hit him hard and he falls to the ground. The last one runs up from behind me and tackles me to the ground. I use my strength to push him off. I run for the door as he fires after me. I run out and jump to the roofs I quickly jump from roof to roof and make sure they can't see where I go. I make it back to Bushwell Plaza and get into my room and leave my suit. I get out of the chair and run over to the Shay apartment and through the door. Carly is sitting on the couch with Sam's head in her lap. Carly's mask and gloves are off and she took off Sam's as well. Both their bracelets were still on based on the color of their clothes.
"I checked, she's still breathing and her pulse is normal, it's like she just fell asleep." Carly says before I can even ask how she is. I walk over to the couch, lift up Sam's legs, sit down and place her legs back down on my lap.
"That's good to hear." I say, suddenly very tired. "I feel sleepy." I say with a yawn. "How weird is that?" I ask.
"I don't know." Carly says, "But I feel sleepy now too." I've never noticed before how comfy this couch is.
"Well, we just saved a bunch if people from a murdering psychopath, I think we deserve a nap." I say and lean my head back.
"Just a few minutes." Carly agrees and I feel myself slip into sleep's sweet embrace.
Nevel's POV:
I walk down the stairs of the Shay apartment and look at my work, 'The Heroes' safely asleep.
"From one danger to another, the trio here will fly," I say whimsically, "In this world you have strength, but I my world you'll surely die." I say and lie myself on the chair and drift off to sleep.
And on that ominous note, i say goodbye and have a good week. btw, in case you missed it, Nevel made them fall asleep, it will tie in with his power. i hope you enjoyed this chapter, please review.
