Steve and Evelyn's quiet Christmas with her father had turned into Clint, Natasha, Bruce, Tony and Pepper; all of them having dinner and spending the evening laughing and exchanging gifts. It was the first Christmas that felt like family Christmas in long while. The biggest highlight of the evening was when Tony purposed. Then the big public announcement that Tony and Virginia "Pepper" Potts were engage came at Tony's over the top New Years Eve party. Later that month Tony had the metal removed from his heart and had Pepper fixed up so nothing could happen to her from Extremis. It was now two days until Valentine's Day.
Evelyn, Pepper, and Natasha were shopping. It was mostly for Evelyn because she definitely popped. The baby bump was now very noticeable. She was wearing a the only pair of jeans that still fit with a piece of string and the button and white t-shirt that read Danger: due to pregnancy hormones, I could either burst into tears or kill you in the next five minutes. You have been warn. It was a gift from Tony after a trip to the Avenger Tower; when he showed her where he planned to put the nursery in Steve and her apartment. He was hoping for a happy reaction and got her bursting into tears. Then when he went to touch her shoulder she threw remote at his head. The next morning he had the shirt delivered to their house. She had refused to wear it but she could not keep borrowing Steve's shirts. So while she was shopping for new clothes she put it on. Pepper picked up a maternity shirt that made Evelyn smile and laugh. It read I grow twins what your superpower? Natasha pulled an Asian floral print loose look maternity top. They picked out a bunch of clothes for Evelyn to try on then pushed her to the dressing room.
Steve, Tony, Clint and Bruce were at the gym at Stark Tower. Steve just got done with set of bench presses. Clint stood over him spotting him. Steve sat up as Tony and Bruce walked over to them with water bottles they were discussing some new project. Tony handed one of the bottles to Steve.
"Thanks" Steve said.
Steve took a drink of the water as he stood up and started to help Clint take some of the weights off the bar. Clint was strong but nowhere near strong as a super soldier. He place on of the weights on the ground.
"So Tony how do you plan to spend your first Valentine's Day as a fiancé." Clint joked.
"I don't know Legolas. Maybe fly Pep and me to Paris. You know the whole candle lite dinner by the Eiffel Tower, flowers, chocolates, in the romantic city of lights. I have couple Valentine days under my belt I would be more worried about Cap. I mean not only is this his first Valentine day with Evelyn but he also a married man. So how you plan it spend it?"
Steve glared at Tony as he placed a weight down before turning and crossing his arms over his chest.
"I don't see how it any of your business. But I have plans for the day let just leave it at that."
Steve gave Tony a look that he was not getting any more information out of him. Tony let an out sigh then turned his attention to Clint.
"What about you Legolas any plans?"
Clint sat down on the weight bench. His eyes traveled to Tony with a raised eyebrow look.
"I don't know maybe go to bar pick-up women who are down on their luck or sit at home with Natasha and watch action movies. Probably the later come to think about it; what about you Bruce?" Clint joked.
Bruce twisted his glasses in his left hand and shifted nervously. He looked around the room. He was half tempted to follow Steve and plead the fifth but he knew Tony would just keep pushing until got an answer. Tony knew Steve would not one to kiss and tell, what happened between him and Evie was private. Hell, in public the most Evie and Steve would do was kissing each other softly and holding hands; most of the time Steve had his arm wrapped protectively around Evelyn middle especially now that she was pregnant. There was very few if any pictures of them locked in passionate moment. Tony coughed trying to get Bruce out of his mind. Bruce looked around the room again. Tony and Clint looked eager to hear what his plans were. Steve was looking at the pair with really look.
"Dr. Banner, ignore them; they don't need to know" Steve said.
"No, no it's okay Steve. All I have planned is quiet evening with a friend."
"Is this friend a girl?" Tony joked.
"Yeah is it a girl" Clint added.
"Ignore them" Steve said.
Steve walked closer to Bruce giving the pair a distasteful look. Clint and Tony went back to joking with each other. Bruce looked over to Steve who was sitting on bench near him. He was rubbing the back of his neck. Bruce transferred his glasses back to his face.
"Steve, how is Evelyn holding up?"
"She is doing well. The morning sickness has passed. Her body is changing but that is normal. She starts to crave foods but nothing crazy of as yet. Although finding strawberries in February is a little daunting."
Bruce chuckled a little and patted Steve's back. Steve looked over to Bruce reaching an understanding look.
Evelyn stood outside an ice cream shop with cup of strawberry ice cream in her hand. Natasha stood near her with some bags from their shopping trip the rest of them were around Evelyn's feet. She watched Evelyn's eyes lite up at sight of Pepper coming across the street with her bags of McDonalds. Pepper walked over to them handed Natasha a bag and then handed Evelyn a large order of French fries. She smiled then dunked one of her fries in her ice cream, like it was ketchup. Pepper and Natasha exchanged looks as Evelyn made a happy moaning noise as she ate her fries and ice cream together. Evelyn noticed the looks on their faces mid-bite.
"What?" Evelyn asked innocently.
Pepper and Tasha looked at each other and then back at Evelyn. She had hurt look on her face and knew something was up with them.
"What?" Evelyn asked again.
"Nothing" Pepper and Tasha said instantly.
"It is just year ago you could hardly stand strawberry. Now I'm seeing you devour them like the greatest thing on earth." Natasha said.
Evelyn eyed the pair before take one of her hands cradling her belly. The twins were fluttering around in her belly. She had serene smile on her face.
"I can't help it. It what the babies want. Come on we have one more stop before, we have met the boys" Evelyn said.
They head down the street with Pepper and Natasha carrying most of the bags. Evelyn was eating her fries and ice cream. They walked in to a more of formal wear store and headed to maternity section.
"So what are we looking for?" Pepper asked.
"I don't know" Evelyn said as she looked through the racks.
"What events do you need formal wear for?" Natasha asked pulling out a lace blood red dress.
Evelyn turned and looked at Natasha and the dress. She walked over making sure it was her size before taking from Natasha.
"Well there is the opening of the exhibit in D.C. which is major one. While we are there I have no doubt we will head to Shield headquarters to meet what his name; Alexander Pierce or something like that not to mention some other major to do in store for us while we are there. Tony's birthday, which all knows, will be over the top. Not to mention any Event between now and the twin birth that requires Steve's present like charity events and stuff like that. Not to mention something for Valentine's day."
They started to look for dresses and dress pants and dress top for Evelyn to try on and that would fit comfortably over the bump which no doubt would very large by that point.
A little while later Pepper and Natasha were by the dressing room sitting in chair surrounded by Evelyn shopping bags. Evelyn was in dressing room trying on the dresses.
"So what are getting Steve for Valentine's day?" Pepper asked.
"I got something up my sleeves. What do you think of this?" Evelyn asked come out in dress.
It did not look good with the newer curves of Evelyn curvy body. It looked like a giant tent on her body. Natasha shook her head. Pepper was trying to find something nice to say not wanting a repeat of what happen in last dressing room where Evelyn burst into tears. It took Natasha and Pepper both to calm Evelyn raging hormones which in turn lead to the French fries and strawberry ice cream.
"It okay" Pepper tried.
Evelyn looked in mirror then busted out laughing. She looked over to pair with happy tear welling up in her eyes.
"It's ugly" Evelyn said.
Pepper and Natasha started to laugh as well.
Soon they had picked out enough clothes for Evelyn to last her the rest of pregnancy.
They were laughing as they walked toward the elevator in garage of Stark Tower. Tony and Steve met them in the garage instantly Steve walked over taking the bags from Natasha and Pepper as well the few Evelyn was carrying. He leaned over and kissed her softly.
"How was shopping baby?"
"Good I got what I needed."
Steve put the bags in the trunk of their car before walking back to the group. Evelyn was smiling and laughing at Tony's latest joke.
"Cap, Dolly before you head off to your home I have a surprise for you two."
Steve and Evelyn exchange looks. They last surprise was Sara and her husband coming to their wedding. Steve wrapped his arm around her middle as Tony led them to the elevator. Natasha followed behind them. Pepper looked just as lost as Steve and Evie.
They arrive at Steve's and Evelyn apartment in the tower. Steve and Evelyn looked at Tony oddly. He led them to bedroom off near their old bedroom. They paused at the door which was shut. Tony turned back to the group.
"Close your eyes." Tony said mainly talking to Cap and Evie.
Evelyn complied quickly Steve eyed Tony for a moment before also doing so. He opened the door to the room. He helped them both into the center of the room. Before, he turned back to them, he walked behind them. He placed one of each of his hand on their shoulders.
"Alright opening them"
Evelyn gasped as she opened her eyes. It was huge nursery the walls were paint gold and cream. It was done in Disney theme. It was complete with working carousel. It had the best that money could buy and more than they could ever want or need. Tears well up in her eyes as she walked over to one of rounded cribs it had Winnie the Pooh bedding in it complete with soft stuff Pooh. Steve still stood in the same spot in shock. There was picture of different still from old Disney movies and cartoons some in black and white from Steve childhood to modern color pictures. Tony walked over to switch and the carousel started to move and play music from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. The song was "Once upon a dream."
"Tony, I don't know what to say" Steve started.
"Think nothing of it" Tony said.
Tony walked closer to Evelyn who had the stuff Tigger in her arms. The tears were streaming down her face. She was trying in vain to try to hide them.
"You like it dolly?" Tony asked
Steve walked over to her and place his hand her shoulders. She looked at Steve then at Tony who waiting for her approval. She brought her one hand to her mouth nodding her as she started to wipe away her tears.
"Like it Tony I love it" Evelyn said.
Evelyn threw her arms around his neck. Tony patted her back before let go of her. Evelyn then turned and hugged Steve tight. His hand went to the baby bump that housed his children. They both had huge smile on their face.
