An Island without doctors? Adventures on a snowy island

BAAANG!

A gun shot is fired as Vivi falls to the ground as she doesn't move or make a sound. Everyone looks at her still body. "Vivi!" Luffy screams as he looks at her. Everyone is shocked by this moment…Kent however.

"I'LL KILL YOU AAAAAAALLLLL!" Kent scream to the top of his lungs as his face is filled with white hot burning rage as this is the first time that the crew has ever seen him this angry. Everyone else takes a stance getting ready for a fight.

The men on the small hill quickly act in fear as they all point their guns and take aim. "Ready! Aim!..." A man screams as every man on the hill points the weapons at Kent. "AAAAAAAGH!" Kent screams as he charges forth until…

"No stop!" Vivi says as she grabs onto his legs as she holds onto him and holds him back. The rest of the crew look at her as they are shocked to see her doing this. "Fighting is not going to help anything! I'm fine Kent it only grazed my arm!" She says still holding onto him. The rest of the crew stand there as they don't do anything.

Vivi lets go of Kent as she goes to her knees and bows to the men. "It's fine we won't land, but can you please call us a doctor?" She says. Kent looks at her shocked as he doesn't move. "Our friend is dying from a serious illness. I'm begging you to please help us." She pleads to the men.

Kent keep looking at Vivi not have taking his eyes off of her as he sees the graze on her shoulder as small blood starts dripping out. "Vivi…" He says unable to say much than that. "I know you care about the crew of this ship Kent but you should know that not everything can be solved with fighting. Think about your friends, think about the reason we are here, think about Nami." Vivi says to him as she is still bowing.

Kent looks away from and at the men as he takes a deep breath swallowing his pride as he also goes on his knees and bows to the men. "Please! Please find us a doctor. Our friend is in dire need of you." He says as his hat falls off of his head and onto the ground. All of the men stand where they are as they look at the sudden feeling these pirates are giving in their story as they watch in silence and wonder on the decision they have to make.

"I'll show you to our village." They hear someone say as Kent and Vivi look up and see that it was the metal armour man saying that to them. "Follow me." The guy says as he turns around and starts walking. Vivi looks at them smiling as she looks at Kent. "See just ask politely." She says to him as he looks at her. He sighs. "I guess you're right. Thanks Vivi" He says. She smiles at him.

A few moments later

They all get off the ship as they start following the guy on the snow back to his village. The guy keeps walking as he looks at the crew. "There is one thing I should warn you that the only doctor we have here is actually a witch." He says. Everyone looks at him confused. "Huh? A witch?" Usopp says. "You gotta be kidding me; everything about this island is messed up. What do you people call this weird place anyway?" Sanji asks him as he carries Nami on his back. The guy looks forward. "Actually this land still doesn't have a name." He says. "An island without a name? I didn't know that was possible." Vivi says as the name doesn't say another word.

"AAAAAAAAGH! A BEAR! HURRY EVERYONE PRETEND TO BE DEAD!" Usopp screams in fear as he stands stiff as a board and drops to the snow. He sees a huge gray bear walking on its hind legs carrying pickaxe as it walks towards them. "It's a hiking bear he poses no threat." The guy says. "Don't forget to bow it's proper manners." He says as everyone bows to the bear as they walk past him as the bear does the same walking past them while Kent takes out his book and starts writing. "An island covered in snow, has hiking bears and giant cylindrical mountains? This place is filled with material." He says.

As they reach the village they notice all of the people are doing their own things as they walk around with some having animals carrying heavy stuff and mountain goats walking around. "This is the village where we live. Its name is Big Horn." The guy says. Luffy and Usopp look around. "Look at all of the weird animals walking around." Luffy says. "Well yeah this is a snow country." Usopp says.

"Well looks like we finally found a village if people. Fantastic." Kent says. "Thanks for the help everyone." Kent hears the guy say and he and Vivi look at him talking to the people who were pointing guns at Kent and the others. "If you're not a guard you can return to your work." He says to them. "Are you completely certain you'll be okay by yourself? They are pirates." One villager says. "I believe these people mean us no harm. That's my hunch anyway." The guy says to them.

"You can trust me on that." He says. The people look at him and then to each other hesitant as they start murmuring to one another. They all then start walking away. "Alright Dalton we'll leave them to you." A man says. "Even so be careful Dalton." Another says. "Call us again if you need anything." Another person says. Dalton looks away from them and turn around as he sees Vivi and Kent looking at him. "So that's your name. Well if you don't ask, then listen." Kent says. "So those men weren't your security forces?" Vivi asks him. "No, they're just ordinary citizens. Come to my house for now." Dalton says as he keeps walking.

Kent wanting to look around the place decides to use his swift-swift powers as he gets ready to run…only to fall face first in the snow. "Can'ff ruff iff fnow affreftly." Kent says with muffled voice as he stands up. "I'll be there in a second." Kent says as to Dalton as he looks at all of the buildings and starts making small sketches and writing things down. "Interesting how these people survive on this cold weather. It's truly amazing how these people have adapted to their environment and continue to stay here." Kent thinks in his head as he writes. He places his notebook back in his satchel as he walks to see his friends walking into a house as he assumes it to be Dalton's.

"You can use that bed over there. I'm going to warm the place up." Dalton says as he takes some of the firewood places it in the fireplace and lights it up. Vivi places Nami in the bed as she covers her with the blanket. Dalton takes off his helmet and his sword as he looks at the crew.

"I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Dalton and I'm the captain of the island's security squad." He says. Kent looks around the house. "Please forgive our…less than friendly welcome." He says. "Eh, when your pirates these tend to happen." Kent says looking at some swords that are hanging under a white tiger pelt.

Dalton looks at him and Vivi with a serious look. "Excuse me but may I ask you two a question?" He says as Vivi and Kent look at him. "It's just that you two look familiar to me for some reason." He says. Vivi turns her face away from him but her eyes don't wander. "Uh…no I just have one of those faces I guess." She says. Dalton looks at Kent. "And you?" He asks him.

Kent looks away from him. "Nope, we've never even met before and I've never seen your face." He says his tone sounding a little insulting. Sanji looks at Kent. "You don't have to be an ass." He says to the writer. Kent looks at Sanji a little upset. "Oh I'm sorry if I'm not instantly friendly to people who were pointing GUNS at my face a few minutes ago and shot Vivi." He says turning back to the swords. Sanji gets a mad at this as he moves towards him. Dalton sighs and stops him. "No it's fine he has a right to be angry." He says.

"Anyway can you tell us more about this doctor or witch if that's what she is? Nami's fever has gone up to 107." Vivi says as Dalton's eyes widen. "How long has she had it?" He asks Vivi. "About several days and it just keeps getting higher." She says to him. "I see, she'll likely die if it gets any worse." Dalton says as Kent rolls his eyes at that. "Yes, but we have no idea what the illness is much less how to treat it so we don't know how to help her." Vivi says to him.

Sanji gets angry. "We've got to find a doctor as soon as possible. Any doctor will do, where's this witch of yours?!" He asks him. Dalton looks at Nami. "The witch? Do you see those mountains outside the window?" Dalton asks him. Kent turns his head to him. "You mean those cylindrical shaped ones?" He asks him as Dalton nods. "Yeah I noticed them earlier." Sanji says looking out the window to look at the mountains.

All he sees however is… "A super massive snowman!" Luffy scream as he has made a giant snowman outside of the house. "And the feared snow beast, Snowzilla!" Usopp says as he has made a dinosaur like snow figure. Sanji looks at them both with an annoyed look. "Get in here before I kill you!" He yells.

A few moments later Luffy and Usopp are inside the house as they sit down. Dalton looks outside the window. "Those mountains outside are known as the Drum Rockies. Look closely. Do you see the castle on the tallest one in the middle?" Dalton asks them. "Castle?" Usopp asks drinking some hot beverage.

"That castle has lost its king." Dalton says. "Yeah we see it up there." Kent says as he and Sanji are looking out of the window. "What's so important about the castle?" Vivi asks Dalton. "That castle is where our lands only doctor lives, doctor Kureha. She's the one who people call here a witch." He says. "What?! Of all places, why does she have to live on top of a mountain? We need to call her here right now. Nami needs our help." Sanji says to him.

"I'm sorry but I'm afraid there is no way top contact her." Dalton says as Sanji and Kent look to him shocked. "You can't be serious! What kind of doctor is she?!" Sanji asks him. "A pretty poor one if you ask me." Kent says with his arms crossed. "Actually her skills as a doctor are quite impressive." Dalton says as Kent raises an eyebrow at that. "However she's an eccentric old woman living 140 years old now." He says as Kent whistles in impressed. "A 140? No wonder she doesn't get around much." Sanji says.

Dalton looks at them. "Oh and one more thing, she likes pickled plumps." He says. "Kind of a weird thing to know but okay." Kent says. Vivi looks at Dalton. "What happens when the people get sick or injured, doesn't she help them?" Vivi asks him. "She comes down from the mountain whenever she feels like it. She looks around for patients, she treats them and before she leaves she takes whatever she wants from their houses as payment." He says.

"She doesn't sound like a very nice lady." Usopp says. "It kind of sounds like she's a pirate." Luffy says. "Well she should join the club then." Kent says jokingly with a hint of sarcasm. "But how is a woman as old as she able to get down that tall mountain?" Vivi asks Dalton. "It's an odd rumour around here. Some of the villagers claim they've seen her at night riding a sleigh of some in the sky. They see her silhouette when the moon is out." Dalton says. "It's the reason she's thought to be a witch." He adds.

"Kind of a weird reason to able a being of magical abilities just because they ride a sleigh." Kent says looking outside through the window. "There are others who say they've seen her with a strange creature, a creature that none of them recognise." Dalton says as Usopp shivers as he says that. "A strange creature you say." Kent says with a grin as he rubs his chin as he takes out his notebook and writes in it.

"See I told you! Where there's snow there's going to be snow monsters!" Usopp says panicking. Everyone ignores him as they continue to listen to Dalton. "Doctor Kureha is the only doctor we have, but she's still a woman I prefer to stay away from. All we can do is wait until the next time she decide to come down the mountain." He says. "Really?" Vivi asks. "Are you serious?!" Kent says looking up from his notebook and at Dalton. Sanji looks through the window. "Dammit we can't wait here for that long. Nami is getting worse as we speak." He says.

"Hey Nami, Nami wake up now." Luffy says to her as he is lightly slapping her. Everyone (Except for Dalton) looks to Luffy with angry shark teeth faces. "LUFFY YOU IDIOT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HER?!" They shout at him.

Nami's eyes slowly start to open up as Luffy stops and looks at her. "Hey look she's awake." He says. He moves closer as he looks at her. "Here's the thing, the only way to see the doctor is to climb the mountain. So we're gonna have to climb the mountain." He says to her as she looks at him a little surprised.

"Are you crazy?! What about Nami? How do you expect to get her up there?" Sanji asks him. Luffy moves away from Nami and looks at him. "Easy she'll ride on my back." He says. Kent looks at him dumbfounded by that statement. "How stupid are you?! You do that and you'll only make her even sicker." He says. Luffy looks at Kent. "What's the problem? I thought we needed to hurry?" Luffy asks.

Vivi looks at him upsettingly. "We do but you'll never make it up there. Look at how tall and steep that thing is." Vivi says pointing at the window to the mountain. "I can do it." Luffy says to her. Sanji looks at him. "Maybe you can but climbing that thing would be way too hard on Nami!" He says to him. "Well look, even if we fall we'll land in snow." Luffy says. "Are you insane?! That fall would kill you even if you were a healthy person." Kent says. Usopp crosses his arms. "Seriously Luffy she has a really bad fever it's so high she's almost dying, don't you understand that?" He says to him.

They all look as they suddenly see Nami slowly sitting upright. "I need to get over this thing and quickly." She says as she is breathing heavily. "We need to hurry. For Vivi." She says.

She holds out her hand to Luffy for him to high five it as she gives him a weak smile. "Come on captain. Let's go." She says weakly. Everyone but Luffy is shocked by this as they just look at her. Luffy smiles as he walks to her and high fives her. "That's what I'm talking about. Leave it to me." He says to her.

A few moments later

"I can't believe this. Now our navigator is as crazy as our captain." Usopp says as everyone is now outside of the house as they look at Luffy who is carrying Nami behind his back. Sanji looks at Nami. "You know you're in no shape to make this trip Nami." He advises her. Vivi looks at Luffy worried. "Are you sure you'll be okay? It'll take you a few hours to get there." She says to him. "Not to mention the heavy weather." Kent says. Luffy looks at Dalton. "Hey old guy give me some meat for the road." He says to him. "Meat?" Dalton says confused by what he means. Sanji looks at them. "Right, I'm coming too." He says to them.

Usopp looks at Luffy with a serious face. "Listen Luffy you can't fall even once or Nami is going to die." He says to him. Luffy looks at him taken back. "What? Not even once?" He says to him. "Just wait a second; I need to make sure that this is still tight." Vivi says tying the note around Luffy that is helping with holding Nami. Vivi stands up. "Okay, I'm going to wait for you here. If I came with you guys I'll only get in the way." She says to them.

"Question, why can't Kent just take Nami up there? He's the fastest one of us all." Usopp says. Kent shakes his head. "Sorry but I can't use my powers. The snow here is too thick for me to use them. I'll only just trip every time I use it." He explains. "Alright then I'll stay here." Usopp says. "Okay." Luffy says. He then looks at Nami with a grin. "Now you just hold on tight to me, okay Nami?" He says to her. She doesn't say a word as she is too weak to do so.

There is a few moments of silence. "I guess you're dead set on going." Dalton says as everyone looks at him. "I'm going to try to stop you but I will ask you to at least climb up from the other side. That way you can avoid the Lapins on this side." He says to them. "They're fierce carnivorous rabbits, you run into a pack of them you're as good as dead." He says as everyone is surprised by this. "Meat eating rabbits, are you serious?" Kent asks as Dalton nods.

"Well we gotta get up there. We'll be just fine." Luffy assures him as he looks at Sanji. "Right?" He asks him. "Yeah, fine." Is all he says. Dalton looks at the two stupefied. "You can't be serious?! Do you know how easily those things could kill you?" Dalton says to them. "Nah we'll be alright. Now hurry up Sanji before Nami dies!" Luffy screams as he runs off. Sanji looks at him annoyed as he runs after him. "Don't say stuff like that you idiot, do you want to jinx us?!" He exclaims as they off to the castle.

Dalton, Vivi, Usopp and Kent stand there as they see them disappear in the distant. "Are you sure they'll be alright." Dalton asks them. "Well…it's not those two we need to worry about." Usopp says. "Nami is the one in trouble. I just hope her strength can hold out long enough she's getting sicker by the minute." Vivi says as they just look silent.

Kent pops behind the two of them as he moves between them and places an arm over them as he has a smile on his face. "I'm sure they'll be fine. Have a little faith in them; they're Straw Hat pirates after all it will take more than a little sickness to slow us down." He says. This makes the two feel a little better. "You're right Kent." Usopp says.

Dalton walks to his house he opens the door but stops as he looks at the three of them. "Why are you standing there? Come on inside it's cold out here." He says to them. Vivi looks at him and smiles. "No it's fine I want to stay out here." She says. "Same here." Kent says. "Me too." Usopp says as his nose is red and he is shivering like crazy.

Dalton looks at their attitude of wanting to stay where they are. He smiles as he closes the door. "I see." He says as they look at him confused. He crosses his legs as he sits down on the snow with his hands on his knees as he looks at them. "Well in that case I'll join you." He says to them. The three of them are surprised by this sudden change that it causes them to smile. Silence fills the area around them as they just stare at the mountain.

"We did have some once here on this island, you know?" Dalton says as the three look at him. "Come again?" Kent asks him. He doesn't look at Kent as he still looks in the direction of the mountain. "Some doctors, however all them left some time ago for certain reasons. They were very at what they did while they were still here. We were even well known for the advanced medicine we practiced on this island." Dalton says as Vivi looks at him. "So what went wrong?" She asks him.

Dalton looks away from the mountain and looks at the ground with a serious face. "A few months ago we suffered a vicious attack and our country was destroyed…destroyed by pirates." He says.

Vivi, Usopp and Kent both have faces of extreme shock as they look at Dalton. "Oh damn." Kent says. "The whole country?!" Usopp says. "So that's the reason you acted that way when we showed up." Vivi says. "Yes, after the attack the word pirate terrifies the people on this island." Dalton says. "Sorry about the way we treated you." Dalton adds. Kent sighs. "Now I guess I can't be too mad about the whole incident." He says with his arms crossed.

"Their group was small as well, only five people." Dalton says as those words cause Kent's eyes to widen. "Five?!" He asks. "Their captain called himself Blackbeard; their power was so incredible they destroyed our entire country faster than you could believe." Dalton says. Vivi, Usopp and Kent stand there shocked by all this. "What's more is that there are some here that believe that it was good for the country." Dalton says. Kent raises an eyebrow. "Pirates destroying your country is good?" He asks confused by this. Vivi gets upset at this. "What could possibly be good about that happening?!" She asks him. "That's crazy, who would say something like that anyway?!" Usopp asks.

Dalton looks up at them and smiles. "Thank you, I agree." He says as they look at him surprised. "But they have their reasons. The king who ruled here before the attack was a horrible man. His rule was despised by all of the citizens. Our country use to be known as Drum Kingdom and our king's name was Wapol. He was the worst king imaginable." Dalton says with hatred in his voice.

Vivi, Kent and Usopp's eyes widen as they suddenly remember when Luffy send a large guy flying off their ship with the same name. "Yes I remember him, I know that man." Vivi says. "Not Wapol." Usopp says frightened. "Uh-oh" Kent says.

Kent looks at Dalton. "Question, is Wapol some guy that is large and likes to eat stuff even if they aren't edible?" He asks him. Dalton looks at him surprised. "Yes, how do you know that?" He asks him. Kent looks nervous as he rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah we kind of ran into him." He says.

Dalton looks at him eyes widen and very surprised. "What? You mean you know who Wapol is?" He asks him. "Know who he is? We know more than that. He's the pirate who attacked our ship not too long ago, but I was able to take care of him." Usopp says as Kent just looks at him with a dead pan look. "Now that I think about it I do remember him saying something about heading to Drum Kingdom." He says.

Vivi looks at him. "Yes there's no question about it now I'm sure I've met him once at a monarch meeting my father took me to. I was still very young but I remember it to this day." Vivi says. Dalton looks at her with a raised eyebrow. "A monarch meeting? Who are you?" He says to her. Vivi stutters as she looks at him seriously. "Look the point is we know Wapol. From yesterday when we were on our way here." She says to him. "Yesterday? Are you sure about that?" He asks her with a little bit of worriedness in his voice.

"Mmmm, it could've have been or maybe last wee…yes it was yesterday." Kent says to him in an irritated tone. "But then I don't understand what's going on here. He said he was a pirate, he didn't say anything about being a king." Vivi says to Dalton. Dalton looks at the three of them. "He's just calling himself a pirate as some kind of a disguise. In truth Wapol is only wandering the seas trying desperately to return to this island." Dalton explains to them.

"So Wapol and the people who were on the ship with him were kicked off the island because they were no match for the pirates, is that what happened." Vivi asks. Dalton's face turns dark as he has an angered look to him. "That's not it." He says to them. "What do you mean?" Kent asks him.

Dalton starts shaking in anger. "When it happened…when we were attacked…Wapol's army didn't even try to fight." He says trying to hold in his anger. This widens Vivi and Kent's eyes. "In fact…the second he learned how strong the pirates were, Wapol grabbed his cronies and ran like a coward he was the first to abandon the country and flee out to sea!" Dalton says as he calms down a little. "After that the entire country fell into utter despair. WE WERE LEFT BEHIND BY OUR KING!" Dalton screams. Vivi looks at him and sheer anger as she bursts out. "WHAT SORT OF KING…

BAM!

Everyone jumps in surprised as he aloud slam is heard right next to them. They look in the same direction on the right side of Dalton's house as they see a medium sized hole in the wall with a fist lodged into it. The fist belongs to Kent as they look at him and see the top part of his face is covered by his hat as he has no expression. They look at him shocked. "Kent?" Vivi says worried.

Not saying a single word Kent takes his fist out of the hole as he turns around and starts walking away. Vivi goes to stop him but she is then feels a hand on her shoulder as she looks back and sees that it is Usopp shaking his head. Vivi turns back to Kent as he walks on as she wonders what is going through his head.
