Chapter Ten: Snowball Fights

Matching expressions of shock and disbelief appeared on Susan and Peter's faces as they started to take in their surroundings from the ground. The other four children had fallen as well but weren't as shocked by the outcome. Lily truly did believe in Lucy so it made no difference to her when she had slipped and landed on her knees in a while of snow. Georgie had heard about it from both Lucy and Edmund, so he had a little more to go off of as well. Though while he told Edmund that he believed, a small part of him had doubts. He was just quick to cover the surprise from his face.

Peter was the first to move, pushing himself up and brushing the snow from his pants before going around and helping the girls up as well. As soon as Susan was on her feet, she was walking farther into the land, unable to look away.

"Impossible!" she muttered in disbelief.

"Don't worry; it's probably just your imagination," Lucy said with a smug smile on her face. She then turned to Lily and flashed her older friend a smile of enjoyment.

Lily couldn't help but smile back. She remembered when she had told Lucy that she would get her chance to say 'I told you so' and now she was getting it. She was pretty sure that Lucy was remembering the conversation as well.

"I don't suppose saying we're sorry would cover it?" Peter asked, embarrassment written on his face.

Lucy, who had been kneeling on the ground, straightened up and turned to face her eldest brother.

"No, it wouldn't," she said, looking down and sounding upset. She then removed the snowball from behind her back at threw it at Peter, a direct hit to the face!

"But that might!" she giggled, her face lighting up.

Peter, after getting over the shock of being hit in the face with a cold ball of snow, bent down and grabbed a handful of snow for himself, putting it together quickly before returning fire on Lucy. The throw was decent and connected with Lucy's under shoulder and next area. The young girl let out a squeal of laughter as the cold snow touched her skin. Not wanting to be left out, Lily grabbed a handful of snow as well and threw it at Susan who was quick to return the favor.

And so started the snowball fight.

After casting a sideway glance at Edmund who seemed to be frozen to the ground, Georgie too joined the war, throwing snow at both his sister and Peter. The next couple of minutes were filled with laughter as the five children threw large handfuls of snow at one another. Lily and Lucy ended up forming an alliance and focused most of their efforts on hitting the other three while Peter, Susan, and Georgie pretty much just aimed for the person closest to them. It wasn't until Susan accidentally hit Edmund with a snowball, originally intended for Lily who dodged it, in the arm that the group realized he wasn't participating.

For the first time, Edmund looked away from the two large hills in the distance and grabbed his arm where he had been hit. "Ow! Stop it!" he grumbled.

Peter dropped the snowball he was just about to throw and turned to his younger brother, "You little liar!"

"What? You didn't believe her either!" Edmund protested.

"No one did," Georgie pointed out, moving to stand next to Edmund.

"I believed her," Lily said, resting a hand on Lucy's shoulder.

Peter cast the two of them a look for a moment before turning back to Edmund. "Apologize to Lucy," he demanded. When his brother just stood there, Peter took a step towards him, "Say you're sorry!"

"Alright, I'm sorry!" Edmund said quickly. Peter wasn't happy with the apology and took another step towards Edmund, but was stopped by Lucy.

"That's alright, some little children just don't know when to stop pretending," she said, repeating the exact same words that Edmund had said when she told everyone about Narnia. She even wore the same smug look.

"Very funny," Edmund muttered.

"Maybe we should go back," Susan said, stepping forward. After the enjoyment of the snowball fight had worn off, she seemed to be back to her critical self.

"Can't we at least take a look around?" Edmund asked, glancing back at the hills.

Georgie followed his gaze and looked at the hills as well. "It might be worth a look, I mean, we are here after all," he added. Edmund had told him that was where the Queen lived and understood right away that that was where Edmund wanted to go.

"Well, I think Lucy should decide," Peter said, casting the two boys a rather dirty look before turning to smile at his sister.

The young girl thought about it for a moment before her face lit up with an idea. "I would love for you all to meet Mr. Tumnus!"

"That's a wonderful idea, Lucy," Lily exclaimed, looking down at Lucy.

"Well then, Mr. Tumnus it is," Peter said, turning around and walking towards the opening that led to the wardrobe.

"But we can't just go walking around in these clothes!" Susan protested, gesturing to hers and Lily's skirts and short sleeves as well as Lucy's dress. The boys were lucky and had on pants and long sleeve shirts. Susan could already feel the chill starting to get to her and wrapped her arms around her chest for warmth.

"We can use these coats," Peter answered, walking out of the wardrobe wearing a light brown fur coat. His arms were full of similar looking coats for everyone else.

"Peter, those don't belong to us," Susan pointed out as her brother handed her a coat, which she unwillingly accepted.

Peter just shook his head as he walked over to Lily and Lucy, handing them coats similar to his and Susan's. "Well, I don't think the Professor would mind if we borrowed them. And if you think about it logically," he paused and looked over his shoulder at Susan, "We're not even taking them out of the wardrobe."

Susan didn't look happy as that fact was pointed out to her, but she didn't comment. Walking over to Edmund and Georgie, he held out his hands and offered them the last two remaining coats he had. They were both light gray in color and appeared to be a lot fancier than the others.

"But, those are girls coats!" Edmund exclaimed, looking down at the furs.

"I know," Peter replied simply, playing it off as though he didn't see the problem.

"So why can't we wear a pair of the brown ones and Lily and Susan can wear these?" Georgie asked, raising an eyebrow at Peter. He understood the older boy was trying to get back at them, but were the girl coats really necessary?

"Will you boys just put on the coats already so that we can go?" Lily called. She hadn't heard the comments made by either Edmund or Georgie as she was too far away standing by the lamppost with Lucy and Susan. All they saw was what looked like the two boys refusing their coats.

Edmund and Georgie shared a look before giving in a taking the jackets. Peter smiled smugly before turning and heading over to the girls who stood waiting impatiently.

"He won't be smiling like that for much longer," Edmund muttered as he pushed his arms through the sleeves of the coat. Looking up, he found the space between the two large hills and smiled. "Soon he'll be sorry he ever treated me so mean."

Georgie looked at his friend, a slightly dejected expression on his face. He didn't find it entirely fair that Peter was punishing him just for being friends with Edmund. Sure, he was a little mean every once and a while, but it wasn't like he wasn't right either. They weren't the only ones who hadn't believed Lucy a week ago.

Trailing behind, Edmund and Georgie followed the group and Lucy began leading the way to Mr. Tumnus' house. They walked for a while before Lily felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around, she saw that it belonged to Peter.

"Hey, could I talk to you for a tick?" he asked quietly. "Alone?"

Although confused, Lily nodded her head and the two of them stopped for a moment so that the others moved ahead of them. Once they had created a fair distance between them, Lily and Peter began slowly following after.

"I didn't want to make a big show of it, but I wanted to thank you," he said. He was looking at the ground, hands stuffed deep in his pockets.

"Thank me for what?" Lily asked, unsure of what she had done that would warrant a 'thank you' from Peter.

"For believing in Lucy when the rest of us didn't," he explained, "You were there to comfort her when she needed it and it should have been me. I'm her brother."

Lily stopped walking, placing a hand on Peter's arm to stop him as well. For the first time, he looked up and met her eyes, light blue meeting dark. "Hey, you shouldn't beat yourself up about that. You believe her now and that's all that matters," she said, trying to comfort him. She could tell now that he wasn't used this is, admitting he was wrong, so she offered a smile.

"I guess you're right," Peter replied quietly. "Thanks again."

"You're welcome though it really wasn't any trouble," Lily assured, letting her hand drop. "You're sister is a lovely girl."

Noticing that they had fallen pretty far behind the others, Lily and Peter slowly started walking again, following the footprints left in the snow.

"Your brother, he seems to be fine for the most part. He gets along with Edmund anyway which seems to be a challenge as of late," Peter commented so they didn't walk in silence.

"I'll admit, he has been a bit more irritated since we've been evacuated, but I can't tell if that's because of the situation or because of Edmund." Lily looked at the back of her brother's head, which was bent close to Edmunds. "Georgie's rather particular about his friends even though he gets along with pretty much everyone he meets. I'm just glad he has someone to talk about things with."

Although she might not care particularly for Edmund, it was what Georgie thought that really mattered. She wasn't going to make him sit in a room by himself but because she didn't approve of his friend. That wasn't fair.

"Maybe they'll be good for one another then," Peter offered. "Edmund has been a right devil for a while now. Hopefully, Georgie will help mellow him out."

Lily gave a small laugh. "I'm sure he'll grow out of it. He is a thirteen-year-old boy. You can't tell me you weren't a little devilish when you were his age."

Peter gave a small smile at that.

"I thought so," Lily said with a slight smirk.

"Hey you slowpokes, are you coming or not?" Lucy cried suddenly, cupping her hands over her mouth to be heard over the distance.

It seemed that Peter and Lily had a hard time walking and talking at the same time because they had fallen even farther behind the group than before. Sharing a look, the two laughed before quickening their pace as much as was possible in the deep snow.

Author's Note: There is is, the first Peter and Lily moment! I hope you guys have enjoyed are first Narnia chapter, personally, I think they just get better from here. I think Georgie and Edmund's storyline is a lot better and that there are a lot more Peter/Lily moments. Through this reposting I got a better idea for how I want their relationship to go and I think it's a bit more natural than it was the first time around.
