I'm so sorry dear readers I've failed you, I made a promise that I couldn't keep but as a sort of apology this chapter is much longer than usual but I know that this is only a small consolation. this chapter takes place 1 week after the last one in early Autumn and in this chapter we get introduced to two more new characters (wow this place is getting pretty crowded) one of which will have a very important role in the story later.
Chapter 10 A new member
It was very early in the morning in Jasper park and the sun was only just beginning to crest the horizon making the golden brown leaves on the trees sparkle like fiery embers. Most wolves were asleep however there was one pup that was awake this early, over on the far side of the western territory close to the southern border there was a small den, a den that had gone unnoticed by the Western wolves which suited the occupant quite fine as he had a great distrust of packs, by his experience pack wolves had brought him nothing but pain and sorrow. The occupant was a small pup who had black fur on top with lighter grey fur on his underside and his name was Decca. Decca sat in the back of his den eating the rabbit that he had freshly caught "Oh well what should I do today?" he asked himself, deciding he couldn't just lay around all day he got up and slipped quietly out of his den.
Time skip 15 minutes
Decca was making his way quietly down a small path when suddenly he felt something hard smash into him. Groaning he got up then he saw a beautiful young greyish white furred female wolf pup lying on the ground next to him. Decca moved closer to the pup when suddenly she opened her eyes startling Decca the white furred pup slowly got up after noticing Decca who backed away "don't be shy I wouldn't hurt you I'm an Omega and my name's Lilly by the way" Lilly said realising that this pup was backing way because he was scared "m-my name is Decca" Decca stuttered nervously. Just then Shadow, Kate and Humphrey ran into the clearing "hey Lilly...Wait who's that?" Humphrey asked "oh hey bro this is..." Lilly started to say "Decca" Decca replied Lilly then introduced him to her sister and Brothers "hey one of our friends had something to show us, do you want to come with us?" Lilly asked Decca. Decca was kind of nervous and hesitant about going with these pups but they seemed nice enough "okay sure" he said after a little while and followed them. Soon the five pups came across two more pups led down by a tree, one with grey fur and the other with white. "who are they?" Decca asked "they are Shadow and Humphrey's cru...I mean Sasha and her sister Nightingale" Kate answered. the 7 pups greeted each other and the four siblings introduced Decca who couldn't help noticing the nervous glances that Humphrey and Nightingale as well as Shadow and Sasha were giving each other "what is going on with them?" Decca whispered to Lilly "well our parents took the four of them off and had a talk with them and they haven't been the same with each other since, won't tell us what the talk was about though"
Time skip
Seven young pups made their way up one of the hills in the western territory. "hey what is it exactly you want to show us?" Kate asked "just on the top of this hill" Nightingale replied. the pups crested the hill and on top near the slope on the other side stood a half log "a log? that's what you want to show us?" Kate stated, "it's not really the log we wanted to show you, more what we were going to do with it" Nightingale said motioning for Sasha to explain. "guys do you remember when at the moonlight howl we slid down that slope in the log?. Well me and Nightingale have been doing some testing on the smaller slopes and we wanted to take you for a ride on this one" Sasha finished. after a brief pause Kate and Lilly realised what they were suggesting "wait you are seriously saying you want us to go down there in that thing" Kate said "yep that is exactly what I'm suggesting so get in" Sasha replied without hesitation everyone but Kate leapt into the log before Kate reluctantly joined them. "Okay everybody hold on" Nightingale said from the back as she pushed off with one of the back legs. The log raced down the hill, crushing any flowers or fallen leaves that got in the way, "just one question. how do we stop this thing?" Decca asked "oh it usually stops by itself" Nightingale replied "okay and how do we steer?" Decca said "oh we haven't gotten that far yet why" Nightingale said Decca pointed ahead of them where there was a small set of rapids/miniature waterfalls (like the kind you normally find in streams). The log went skimming over the rapids sending several bits of wood flying in all directions before hitting a rock in front of it tossing the pups into a pool at the bottom. Hutch and his mate Kyra(who also has grey fur and has emerald green eyes) were walking through the Forrest close by and came upon the seven soaking wet pups trudging through the forest "are you ok" Hutch asked "yea we're fine, I'm just going to lie down until the world stops spinning "Humphrey replied lying down. Kyra noticed there was another pup amongst them who she had never seen before "what's your name little one?" Kyra asked "Hello my name is Decca" Decca greeted bowing his head a little "Decca? that's a nice name" Kyra replied. The pups stayed there for a while talking with Kyra and Hutch who as usual told them a story about Winston when he was younger, eventually the pups said bye to Hutch and Kyra and went to show Decca around the some of the rest of the territory. Eventually they bumped into Winston and Eve, "hello pups, who is this a new friend you've made? as far as I know he isn't from this pack, what's your name and where are your parents?" Winston said noticing Decca. "my name is Decca and well truth is I have no family, at least no one that I would count as my family. I was born the youngest of three pups. My brother and sister were very mean and took great delight in playing very rough games with me and beating me up whilst my farther as well as most of the pack actively encouraged them. My mother was the only one who looked after me but she died when I was still very young and after that Farther chucked me out of the pack hoping I would die however my mother had taught me most of what I needed to survive and I picked the rest up as I went along. I did try to join other packs but they rejected me so I lived and travelled alone trying to get as far away from my old pack as possible until I came here" Decca finished sadly Everyone sat there in silence for a moment then Winston went and put a paw over Decca, "don't worry you are safe here everyone in this pack will look after you" he reassured Decca. "Eve how about you and the pups show Decca around whilst I tell the pack of this new addition." Winston suggested.
That evening the pups were lying in the den playing the guessing game with Eve when Winston entered the den along with Hutch and Kyra. "Decca I've been talking with my second in command Hutch and his mate Kyra and seeing as how you don't have anyone to look after you they offered to take you in and look after you" Winston said "really you would do that for me?" Decca asked "of course. every pup deserves a family" Kyra said "wow I..I..I d..d..don't know what to say no one has ever been this kind or nice to me before" Decca thanked them, a couple of tears running down his cheeks "no need to thank us but it's getting late we had best head to our den" Hutch smiled motioning for Decca to follow him. Decca quickly followed his new family. When they got to the den Decca gave a big yawn before collapsing asleep on the den floor. "aww look at him he is sooo cute" Kyra said sitting next to Hutch "sure is" he replied, both of them sat there for a moment before curling up either side of Decca and falling asleep themselves.
