Chapter 10

They were finally able to pry Frank away from Nancy. The nurses assured him that it was probably a reflex and not her grasping his hand. But he didn't want to believe that. He just knew in his heart that she was holding onto him. As he was wheeled into his room Frank suddenly had no appetite. He just wanted to stay by her side. If he couldn't do that he just wanted to sleep. Joe knew as soon as he saw his brother's face he was going to need some time to himself.

"Why don't we all go get something to eat and let Frank rest." Stated Joe as he ushered everyone out of the room.

Frank mouthed the words thank you to Joe's retreating form. He knew he should sleep since rest had not come to him so easily since Nancy had been kidnapped. He only had nightmares about her not surviving. Her beautiful face crying for him to save her and he couldn't. But this dream was different. Maybe it was because he was more hopeful, they had found her and she grasped his hand.

Frank woke around dinner time. His parents and Joe were there. They had brought him something to eat from home. It was his favorite lasagna. He wondered where Mr. Carson, Bess, and George were.

"Bess and George headed home a little while ago. They wanted to stay but their parents said they needed to come home and keep up with their school work." Replied Joe as if he had read Frank's mind "Mr. Carson went home for a few days to get things took care of there. He needed to get some associates to take over some cases for him. He also wanted to bring Hannah back with him so she could get the old house cleaned up."

"Frank, they are hopeful. She has not coded in the last few hours." Softly spoke his mother. "But she has not woken up yet."

A small smile came crossed Frank's face as the thought of her waking soon crossed his mind. He knew for now that she was going to live. Then a confused look flashed his face.

"Did you say that Hannah was coming to clean an old house." Asked Frank

"Her mom grew up right down the street from our house. The big house at the end of our street." Laughed his mother "She and I grew up together. They moved not long after Nancy was born. Carson was offered a great job at a huge law firm. And they never sold the house. It was Nancy's grandparent's house."

As Frank digested what his mother just told him a smile formed on his face. He had never been so happy in his life. He was going to get to see her more often now. They had finally confessed their love for each other. Now they just had to figure out how to let Callie and Ned down without hurting them too badly. He knew deep down that there was no way someone was not going to get their feelings hurt.

"Frank, son the doctor said you could come home tomorrow. You should be able to go to school on Monday. I know it is not what you want." spoke his father. "But do you think Nancy would want you to miss school? Or even just mope around till she woke up."

"I know dad. It will be just as hard to leave her here." As he hung head in defeat. "I just want to be there when she wakes."

~~~~~~~~~~~~Nancy's Hospital Room~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You are looking good baby." Ned whispered
Ned was finally alone with her. No Hardy's, No, Callie, no one to come between him and Nancy. He slowly slid his hand up her calf. He relished the feeling of her thigh beneath his fingertips. Maybe he could still get what he wanted from her. He won't be her first anymore, but what did he care. A nurse walked into the room just as his hand reached her waist.
"Oh, I am sorry I did not realize Ms. Drew had a visitor." As she smiled at Ned
"Oh, it's okay, I just came by to see how my girlfriend was doing." As he smiled warmly back to the nurse.
She just nodded at went on about checking Nancy's vitals and make sure everything checked out okay. As soon as she was done, she quietly left the room swooning at how much in love the young man looked as he was now sitting by her bedside. How she wished she could find some great like him.
Ned knew he was going to have to wait after the nurse had interrupted him. He would wait a few days to see if Nancy woke. If she did maybe he would try to sneak her out at night when there is the least personal working. He bent down and whispered into her ear.
"Just wait Nancy, we will have our own fun soon. I can't wait baby till I can feel you beneath me."
He smiled as he heard her heart rate increase on the machine monitoring her. A nurse came running into the room to check what was wrong with the herd. Ned took this chance to sneak from the room.
Joe had seen him slither away when he thought no one noticed. He rushed to Nancy's room and there was the nurse's trying to get her stats back to normal. It made him believe Ned knew more than he was letting on. This got the wheels in Joes mind to grinding, maybe Ned was behind all of this. But why would he hurt the girl he was supposed to be in love with.
He would think about that later he really needed to get back to Frank and let him know about Nancy. He knows his brother will be upset that he was not there to protect her. He entered his brother's room and saw him trying to get into a wheelchair.
"Please I want to see her." As he pleaded with his brother.
Joe helped him into the wheelchair. Than began pushing him to her room. He told him about seeing Ned coming out of her as the nurses ran in.
"I have a bad feeling that he knows more about what happened to Nancy than he is letting on." Said Frank
He smiled as soon as he saw her. He had his brother push him up as close to her bed as possible. He laid his head on her bed. He cried for her, he could not save her from getting her.
Joe took a seat not far, just in case Frank needed him. He took his cell phone out, turning the volume off, he started playing a game. He looked up to see Nancy's reach over to rub his brother's head. He smiled to see she was awake and his brother was asleep.
She looked at him with the eye, she could open. She tried to smile, but the tube down her throat stooped that. She was happy to see them both with her. She began to run her fingers through Frank's hair. She smiled when he stirred but did not wake.
"He has not slept well since you were kidnapped and we tape." Whispered Joe
A tear fell down her cheek. As she thought about the ordeal she had been through. What they had been through. She knew from experience that it is almost as traumatic for the family and friends. She took her free hand and began tapping on the tube to signal that she wanted it out.
Joe hurried and went to get a nurse. Frank woke as soon as he heard the whoosh of the door. His face lit up when he saw her looking at him.
"You really know how to make a guy have a heart attack. If you wanted me to declare my love, you could have just asked." As he tried to make a joke "I love you, Nancy Drew. I will love you as long as I live."
He all he really wanted to do was scream and cry for joy. The girl he loved was awake. He took her hand that had been playing with his hair and kissed it.
The doctor, a nurse and Joe came back into the room. They slowly removed the tube from her throat.
"Thank you." She said in a raspy whisper.
Frank slowly stood and leaned in to give her a light kiss on her lips. She smiled as she watched him sit back down.
"Are you okay? You did not get hurt too bad I hope." She whispered
His parents walked in knowing that since neither of their sons were in Frank's room they must be in hers. Both smiled gratefully that she was awake. They did not know how Frank would be if she did not make it. Or her father, after her mother's death, she was what kept him going.
"Hello Nancy, we are all so happy to see you awake." Said My Hardy
"Thank you." As she smiled at them all
"I am going to call your father to let him know you are awake." As he stepped out of the room.
In walked in Ned, Callie and Iola all three were shocked when they saw she was awake. Ned ran to her side and began crying with relief.
"Oh, Nancy I was so scared you would not wake up." He cried into her hand
"Why are you here Ned, we broke up months ago. I told you it was over and I meant it." As she watched him look at her in horror.
"Nancy baby, I know you didn't mean it then and I know you don't mean it now. You are just traumatized. I will leave and we can talk later when we can have some time just to ourselves." As he tried to hold her hand
"No Ned, I do not want you to come back here again. I will tell the nurses you are not welcome here." As she tried to keep him from holding her hand.
Mr. Hardy had come back into the room by then. He was upset by what he was seeing. He could see by her reaction she was becoming distraught just by his presence.
"Ned, I think it would be wise for you to leave for now. Let her have some time." He sternly said as he opened the door for him to leave
Ned walked out madly. He would come back when he knew no one would be here. He was going to get his time alone with her. He would make sure she was his.
"I am going to see about having police protection put her for you." Said Mr. Hardy as he squeezed her hand
By the time he had walked back into the room Nancy had fallen asleep. He knew she would be tired for a few days. He watched as Frank cried at her side. He placed his hand on his son's shoulder.
"Sorry visiting hours are over. Ms. Drew needs to get her rest. As do you Mr. Hardy." Said the nurse as she entered the room
Joe smiled as he wheeled his brother back to his room. He was so glad that Nancy was going to survive. He knew that if she would have died Frank would have not lasted. He would not ever be the same again. His parents followed behind them.
"We will come get you in the morning. Joe do you want to stay with Frank tonight." Asked their mother as she was giving Frank a kiss on the forehead
"If Franks wants me to." As he smiled at his brother
"Sure, that would be great." As he waved good bye to their parents.
