Annabeth
I accidentally called him "Seaweed Brain". Not only had that left me mortified, I was afraid that he would bring it up the next time we talked. I didn't mean to call him that old nickname, but I wasn't thinking and it slipped out.
Percy had stared at me, shocked, and I drove away as fast as possible, not staying to know how he reacted. Thankfully, he didn't bring it up, but instead, asked me about the picture of Drew and Ben. Percy wanted to send it to his friends, and have them send it to everyone else, but I was against it, As much as I wanted to humiliate her, anyone nearby when Percy breaks up with her would be able to tell everyone.
Percy actually broke up with Drew on Friday, claiming that he only wanted to avoid the endless Drew drama that followed afterwards with the weekend. But before that, Drew had become even more clingy as if she knew what was going to happen.
Every time she saw me, she gave me a cold glare, one that I returned. I didn't know what the glare was for, but she was always there and giving me a glare when I passed Percy in the hallways and said hello to him. I even saw Drew try to kiss him when I walked by once! For whatever reason, seeing her try to force herself on him made my blood boil. I honestly didn't know why she hated me more than usual, and it left me slightly confused. Seeing how I hated being confused, I went through every option in my mind, but came to no conclusion.
On Wednesday, Drew came up to me during lunch when I was peacefully eating lunch with Thalia. I wondered if we needed to pull out the beans again, or if she would leave peacefully. Turned out that we didn't have to use anything.
Drew seemed mad to say the least. And she pulled my arm, roughly, making me stand up. Annoyed, I walked a few steps away from where I was sitting, but she led me to the hallway outside of the cafeteria.
"Yes?"
"Stop flirting with my boyfriend!" was her response. I stared at her surprised.
"What?" I asked, wondering why she thought I was flirting with her boyfriend, when she was cheating .
"Stop flirting with. My. Boyfriend," she said once more, growling it out.
I immediately defended myself by saying, "I'm not flirting with your boyfriend. Why would you even think that?" Drew looked at me I was an idiot before finally explaining.
"I've seen how you look at each other, and how you talk quietly so only you can hear what's being said and staying close by to each other and hanging out after school by yourselves! It's totally flirting!"
I stared at her, wondering if it really did seem like we were flirting. For whatever reason, my insides seemed to into liquid. Was Percy flirting with me too? And have we just not realized it? Everything was so very strange and unusual for me that I denied everything.
"We are not flirting. We have to work on a project together. We're year long partners! We don't have any other choice," I said as quietly as I could, hoping that she would take it and let me go back to eating my lunch. Drew glared at me, mumbling something under her breath before she walked back into the cafeteria, no doubt planning her revenge with her twisted mind. I sighed, tired of all the drama she was causing and followed her into the cafeteria, determined to finish eating before the bell rang since I didn't get a chance to eat my breakfast.
Thalia didn't hesitate to bombard me with questions as soon as I sat down. Before I answered anything, I shoved some food in my mouth and chewed, putting up a hand to stop the flow of words from her mouth.
She waited impatiently for me to finish chewing before asking her questions again. "Why did Drew pull you out?"
I sighed and answered honestly. "She got jealous of me."
"Jealous of you? Over what?"
I let out a laugh and replied, "Drew thought I was flirting with her boyfriend and wanted me to stop, despite the fact that she was cheating on him."
"So," Thalia said slowly, "She thought you were flirting with Percy and that you're going to steal him from her?"
I nodded, saying that she was right and wondering where she was going with this.
She looked at Percy, then back at me and smile, the same expression on her face as on Monday when I told her that Percy wanted a rematch. Though nothing happened, I was still suspicious. "What is it, Thalia?"
Her smile got wider as she said, "I can see it. You and Percy flirting."
My grey eyes got wide and I hit her arm. "What do you mean? We don't flirt!" I hissed at her.
Thalia looked at me, looking somewhat done. "You guys like each other! I could see it when you were up against each other last Friday. You guys are in love."She sang out the last part and I hit her shoulder again. My face reddened and she laughed before growing serious when she saw my red face. "Oh my Gods, you do you like him."
"I. Don't. Like. Percy," I hissed stressing each word. Thalia looked over my shoulder, causing me to turn around as well.
Percy was looking at me from his table, completely turned away from his friends. He pointed at Drew and tilted his head, asking a silent question in the noisy lunchroom. I shrugged and tapped my wrist, signalling that I would tell him later. When I turned back, Thalia looked at me, eyebrows raised.
"See?" was the only thing she said.
Friday was the day we had to present our songs, and it was only in two days. We couldn't meet up after school for the last few days, so in Music, Percy asked me what had happened with Drew on Monday, since it was the one hour we could actually talk to each other without Drew breathing down our necks.
"Well," I began, telling the ever so interesting story, "Drew pulled me out of the cafeteria to tell me to stop flirting with her boyfriend, or in other words, you."
Percy looked appalled at this fact, but I continued on, saying, "And she insisted that we were flirting when I told her we weren't. She even gave examples that I'll tell you after school."
"We are not flirting," said Percy, clarifying the fact. I nodded before he asked, "And what you and Thalia talking about that made you hit her arm twice?"
Remembering the conversation, I blushed and said, "That's something I'm keeping to myself."
He looked confused and we sat, facing forward, not looking or talking to each other, lost in our own thoughts.
I wondered what happened to me not forgiving Percy. It was strange. I hated him, and never stopped hating him since he abandoned me. And yet, when we began talking again, it was like I forgot that ever happened. I wondered if he still stopped bullies from hurting others the way he never did for me. I mean, instead of helping me, he dated, and was still currently dating, my bully! I couldn't help but let out a sigh, which caused him to turn to me.
"What's up?" Percy asked, looking me in the eye, looking strangely worried. I shook my head and smiled, saying that I was fine through my actions.
Although we were friendly and comfortable with each other, I wasn't going to reveal all of my inner thoughts and everything about my life just because of that.
No, all of that information would stay with me until Percy proves himself. And he hasn't shown me that he could be a good, kind, caring person, just a loyal friend. Although he proved himself to be nice, I wasn't going to let myself go just because he's a little nicer, and a little cuter...
No, not cuter. I refuse to believe that I think of him as "cute".
With that in mind, I left the class when the bell rang and went to my locker. Drew instantly found Percy and clung to his arm like she was drowning, shooting evil looks my way.
I could not wait until Percy broke up with her on Friday.
Percy
Annabeth had told me everything about the conversation between her and Drew after school on Wednesday.
I couldn't help but wonder if we were flirting with each other. My heart fluttered in my chest, but I instantly thought that I didn't deserve to be friends, much less flirt with, Annabeth after what I did to her three years ago. I mentally banged my head against a wall. No way would she forgive me so easily. She still didn't share her thoughts or how her life was with me. And I deserved not knowing. But instead of beating myself up for the rest of the time we were out there, we practiced.
I knew we would be perfect when we presented.
Which was why I couldn't keep still in Music on Friday. So much was going to happen today, and it would have almost been one month at school.
So when Annabeth came in and sat down I instantly asked her, "Are you okay with us going first?"
She nodded put her violin case on her desk. I watched as she fiddled with her shirt, then her hair, followed by her owl watch. "Don't worry Annabeth, we'll be amazing," I said to her in hopes of calming her down.
The rest of the students filed into class, going to their respective sections of the room. Today was all about music for most of the students though. Some people looked excited and chatted with their partners, and others looked around nervously.
Ms. Euterpe walked in and clapped her hands together. "Hello class! We'll be presenting our songs today, but before we do that, I have to call roll." She picked up a clipboard and started calling out names. Some people were absent, but most were there. It felt like it took eight years for her to finish calling roll for me, but when she finished, I leaned forward in my chair, ready to go up and present. "Alright class! It's time to present! First off, are there any volunteers before I start picking people?"
I looked at Annabeth and we nodded before thrusting our hands into the air. Everyone turned to look at us, some wondering what we'll sing, others glad that they didn't have to go first.
"Alright! Come on down Annabeth, Percy," Ms. Euterpe called out.
Annabeth stood up and took her violin out of her case, holding it in one hand and the bow in the other. I stood as well, and we both made our way to the front of the room.
She readied the violin, placing it between her shoulder and chin, bow ready.
"And what song will you be singing?"asked Ms. Euterpe.
Annabeth purposefully looked at me, leaving me to answer.
"We're singing 'Never Say Never' by The Fray."
Ms. Euterpe clapped her hands together again and smiled, moving to sit down in an empty desk in the front row. Now the entire class' attention was on us, everyone silent.
I nodded at Annabeth, and taking my signal, she began to play, the bow moving up and down.
I opened my mouth and sang.
"Some things, we don't talk about, rather do without, just hold a smile.
Falling, in and out of love, ashamed and proud of, together all the while."
Annabeth came in now.
"You can never say never, while we don't know when, time and time again, younger now that we were before.
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go.
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go."
Annabeth stopped singing, leaving me to sing alone again, like how we practiced.
"Picture, you're the queen of everything,
As far as the eye can see, under your command.
I'll be your guardian, when all is crumbling, I'll steady your hand."
Annabeth came in once more.
"You can never say never, while we don't when, time, time, and time again,
Younger now than we were before.
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go.
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go.
We're falling apart, and coming together again and again.
We're growing apart, but we pull it together, pull it together, together again."
This time, I stopped singing, leaving Annabeth to sing the next part alone.
"Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go,
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go,
Don't let go, don't let me, don't me go,
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go."
Her voice hit all the right notes while I often messed up on that part, hence why she sang alone. I knew it sounded amazing, and that everyone was amazed. The class was silent for a moment, even Ms. Euterpe, as Annabeth brought her violin down.
She looked around nervously before everyone burst into applause. I couldn't keep the smile from growing on my face, and when I looked at Annabeth, I saw that she couldn't stop smiling as well.
We went back to our seats, getting compliments all the way there.
We didn't stop smiling about our accomplishment, even when class ended. Drew came up and clung to my arm once more, and Annabeth and I shared a look. End this now.
After putting our things into our lockers and walking to the cafeteria, I finally decided that she would have to stop stalking me. So in the cafeteria, I was about to tell her that I was breaking up with her when Drew declared her love for me. Loudly.
"You know Percy," she cooed, "I love you."
The entire cafeteria seemed to quiet down and watch us, waiting to see how I react. Knowing this, I laughed loudly.
"Love me? That's why you where cheating on me right?"
Whispers broke across the cafeteria, everyone turning to each other. Drew's smile froze, and look forced and panicked. She looked at me and said, "What? I would never cheat on you."
I looked at Annabeth and she nodded, so I pulled my phone out of my pocket and got the picture out. "Really?" I said, the amusement plain in my voice. "Cause it seems like you were enjoying your alone time with Ben."
Drew, knowing that there was nothing she could do, turned to Annabeth and pointed at her accusingly. "You made a photo and showed it to him didn't you? Just because you were jealous of our relationship!"
Annabeth giggled and smiled at Drew, perfectly calm. It made me a little scared of her at that moment.
She said loud enough for the people nearby to hear and spread to everyone, "Actually, I heard you moaning to the bathroom with Ben. Now, I knew that you were cheating on him. And since Percy is my partner and a nice person, I got a photo and showed it to him. I believe he has one more thing to say to you now Drew."
Drew turned to me and I happily said to her, "I'm breaking up with you."
Annabeth and I went to go get our lunch, leaving her standing shocked, alone, behind you. She quickly got over her shock and yelled to Annabeth, "Don't think I'll let you take my boyfriend away so easily! You better watch your back, sweetie."
A/N: I promise that I'll try to not put in Author's Notes after every chapter, but since I have a little more time and ideas, I'll be updating once a week. When in the week? I don't know, I'll upload a new chapter randomly, but I'll most likely be uploading on weekends. And, just because I'm crazy like that, I might even upload two chapters in one week. Maybe three if I miss a week as an apology. So, now I know exactly what to write, and I'll be writing much faster.
Great right?!
So tell me, are you guys okay with this schedule?
(Psst: The song kinda explains their relationship, so pay close attention to the song lyrics. All the songs that come up mean something in that certain part of the story!)
