Three pink beams streaked through the Freedom and Strike Rouge as both Gundam's dodge the shots
"What the?" Cagalli said in surprise by the sudden attack.
Kira was looking to see where the attack was coming from before he saw the Gundam Exia closing in on their position.
"Exia proceeding to targets and have concluded the Freedom and Strike are hostiles and must be treated as enemies." Setsuna spoke in a cold voice as he activated the GN-Sword and glared at the two Mobile Suits.
"Exia will eliminate targets." Setsuna snarled as the Exia's eyes glowed as the GN-Drive Powered Gundam charged at the Freedom.
The Freedom went in front of the Strike Rouge and blocked the strike from the Exia with its Beam Saber.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, WE'RE TRYING TO END THIS BATTLE SO NO MORE BLOOD IS SPILLED!" Cagalli screamed through the comm.
"Wrong." Setsuna's cold voice came over the frequency.
The Exia pulled back from the Freedom for a moment. "All you're doing is using Gundam's for selfish reasons!" Setsuna said as the Exia once again charged at the Freedom once again.

Phase 010: The Fight Between Legends
The entire battlefield was frozen as everyone watched the Exia as it continued to swing its sword at the Freedom which kept blocking it.
Kira opened up his communications to the Exia.
"Come in, pilot do you read me?" he asked "Why are you attacking Cagalli, She's only trying to end this conflict without any more unnecessary deaths!"
"You're not!" Setsuna replied over the frequency his tone filled with anger.
"You don't know what it means to be a Gundam!" he yelled as the Exia's blade slammed again into the Freedom's Beam Saber.
As the Exia was about to swing again Setsuna noticed a beam heading his way and dodged the shot from the Strike Rouges 57mm High-energy Beam Rifle.
"Get away from him!" Cagalli yelled as she fired her Rifle again only for the Exia to block it with his shield before blocking the Freedom's Beam Saber with the GN-Sword.
Takemikazuchi
Yuna's face twisted slightly in shock and rage as he and the other Orb officers watched the battle between the three Gundams.
"Yuna Roma Seiran," Roanoke's voice said over the radio suddenly breaking Yuna from the three Gundams. "How do you explain this?"
Nervously, Yuna picked up the phone on his armrest, putting it up to his ear. "Y-yes," he said. "Well, you see, it's a little…"
"Who is that person?" Roanoke asked. "Is she really you're countries representative? If so, then why did she wait until this moment to appear out of nowhere with that ship? And then order your forces to withdraw?!"
By this point, Yuna was sweating in fear. Everyone they had worked for was verge of becoming undone! If he didn't turn this around and fast, Orb would be in serious trouble.
"If I don't get a satisfactory answer from you immediately, things could get very sticky for you and your nation, do I make myself clear?" Roanoke continued.
"Y-yes," Yuna stuttered. "Well it's just… um… what I'm trying to say is…She's crazy! I don't know who she is!" Yuna snapped.
The officers of the Takemikazuchi all turned to Yuna as they look at him in shock.
Neo smirked at what Yuna said.
He glanced at the screen on his chair's armrest, showing the waiting mobile suits in the Jones's hold. "Get ready to deploy them," he ordered. "And send word to the rest of our ships to prepare for combat.
"Lord Yuna, what are you talking about?!" Todaka said.
"That's the Strike Rouge sir!" Another Officer added. "And take a look at the crest! That's Lady Cagalli's!"
"Look! Just because it's her mobile suit and her crest doesn't mean that it's her!" Yuna said. "We just… we just don't know!"
"But sir, that's her voice!" An Officer objected.
"It's… it's… someone… impersonating her!" Yuna exclaimed.
"What?!" The Officer said in shock
"I can't tell!" shouted Yuna. "I know her best! After all, I am her husband!"
"Lord Yuna!" Todaka said.
"And… and if it is Cagalli… then she's been brainwashed!" Yuna roared, sounding insane. "My… my real Cagalli isnot this crazy! She would never do something this stupid and make a fool out of me!"
"Lord Yuna!"
"What are you doing? Hurry up and attack, fools!" Yuna ordered. The officers froze in surprise. "I want you to shoot that accursed ship down! Prepare to attack!"
"How can you give that order?" Todaka asked.
"If we don't, the Earth Forces will attack us! And our country!" Yuna shouted, slamming a fist into his chair. "It was for the sake of Orb that I brought us out here! It's too let for us to turn around and say 'sorry, we quit'."
Todaka stared at Yuna for a moment before sighing. He was a soldier, first and foremost. They had their orders.
"Aim missiles, at the three Mobile Suits." Todaka ordered.
"Captain Todaka!" A Crew Member exclaimed in shock.
"Don't trust their deception!" Todaka said, turning to face him and the other officers. "Attack the rebels!"
"Open fire!" Yuna shouted. Todaka turned back to face the screen, displaying the fight between the Exia, Strike Rouge, and Freedom, with the Archangel in the background.
'I'm counting on you Freedom', he thought.
The Minerva
"Captain, maybe we…" Arthur started.
"Would you settle down for a moment?" Talia said, cutting Arthur off. "Our ship is at a serious disadvantage at the moment." Talia sighed.
The Exia fired at the Freedom which blocked it with its Laminated Anti-beam Shield.
"Fire!" Todaka yelled.
As the Freedom was about to fire its Beam Rifle an alert sounded in the cockpits of the three Gundam's as a barrage of missiles launched from the Takemikazuchi, each and every one of them heading for the Three Gundam's.
The Freedom rushing in front of the Strike Rouge to protect it as the Freedom's targeting computer came up, locking onto the dozens of missiles launched, .
Kira snapped the Freedom into Full Burst Mode, firing everything he had repeatedly, obliterating most of missiles. But before Kira could take out the rest of them, the Exia rushed forward and activated its beam daggers.
Exia then threw its beam daggers at two of the missiles before throwing its GN-Short Sword as well destroying three of them.
Exia then drew its Beam Sabers and cut into closest missiles in half before spinning between the last remaining two slicing them apart.
Suddenly more Mobile Suits launched from the Earth Forces ships and prepared to attack the Minerva and Archangel.
"Good," said Neo, standing up from his chair. "There was a little confusion with that strange interlude, but it looks like it's worked out to our advantage. Now that it's wounded, this is the perfect chance to take out the Minerva."
"Arthur, intercept!" Talia ordered as missiles from the EA/Orb taskforce streaked towards them.
"Yes ma'am," the XO replied, the CIWS guns already opening fire on the closest of the missiles.
"Meyrin, Call back all Mobile Suits and tell them to protect the ship!" She ordered again.
"Yes ma'am!" Meyrin replied.
"Damn it." Athrun swore as he and the others found themselves surrounded by Alliance mobile suits, attacking before they could reach the Minerva. At the same time, he was trying to establish radio contact with the Freedom, but he was not having much success - there was too much interference.
Meanwhile, Both Exia and Freedom dodged as they fired their weapons at the incoming Mobile Suits, The Freedom fired its guns at the limbs of the enemy MS's as the Exia fired its rifle or used its swords to slice threw them with no regard for the pilots safety.
The Exia rocketed up as it slashed threw another Windam with its GN-Sword.
Setsuna charged the Exia at another but suddenly The Freedom appeared slicing off the limbs of the enemy suit letting its remains fall into the sea.
The Freedom then opened its com.
"Just disable the suits, there's no need to kill them!" Kira pleaded to Setsuna.
Setsuna ignored his plea and took out the Exia's two Beam Sabers as he charged at two enemy suits slashing threw them in a 360 motion.
A group of Murasame's then fired their rifles at the Exia. Setsuna dodged the shots or blocked them with his Shield. As he charged at them the Freedom suddenly appeared and fired its M100 "Balaena" Plasma beam cannons at them. The Murasame's limbs were destroyed and fell into the ocean as the Exia dodged the beams or blocked with its shield but it also weakened the shield.
Setsuna then pointed the Exia's blade at the Freedom.
"Why are you interfering?" Setsuna asked the Freedom's pilot. This Gundam was starting to get on his nerves a bit as it kept getting in the way of his battles.
"I told you before, I don't want any unnecessary deaths please!" Kira said to his fellow Gundam Pilot, hoping his words would get to him.
Setsuna stared at the Freedom. Was this really the same Gundam pilot that saved him in his youth? He found his words to be idiotic.
Setsuna's eyes narrowed at the Gundam before him. The Gundam then changed from the Freedom to another Gundam Type Mobile Suit. It had a red and white color with two GN-Drives that produced Red Particles.
The Exia then suddenly charged at the Freedom and swung its GN-Sword down on it. The Freedom dodged and pulls out its beam saber.
Both Gundam's then swung its swords as both blades clashed together.
The area was filled with beams and explosions as the battle continued. The ZAFT Gundam's shot down both Earth Alliance and Orb as they also tried to defend the Minerva at the same time.
"Damn it!" Cagalli shouted as she slammed a fist against the cockpit of the Strike Rouge. How could things have ended up this badly?
Suddenly her cockpit alarms rang as Orb Murasames started firing at her. Cagalli blocked the shots with her Gundam's shield but didn't have the heart to fire back.
The Orb MS's closed in before they were shot down by the Ex-Desert Tiger.
"Cagalli, if you're not going to fight then retreat to the Archangel." Andrew said to the Princess.
Cagalli knew his words were true; she could fight against her people. The Strike Rouge retreated to the Archangel as tears formed in her eyes.
Yzak dodged a shot from the Chaos's beam rifle, only to then be forced to pull up to avoid a barrage from the Abyss below, as the blue mobile armor also fired off a barrage of torpedoes at the Minerva.
Yzak fired the Blu-Duels beam rifle at the Torpedoes destroying most of them. A group of Windams then appeared and started to fire at him.
Yzak roared as he swung his saber down on another enemy suit. He then slashed with the Blu-Duels saber and slashed through another enemy MS. Suddenly two beams hit the Blu Duels head knocking out the main camera. Another beam hit the Gundam's right forearm, destroying it.
"Dammit," Yzak cursed as he raised his remaining saber in front of him defensively. He had gotten careless and was starting to pay for it.
Two Windams appeared behind him, one with a rifle, and the other with a beam saber. The Windam with the saber charged as his comrade laid down covering fire.
"Yzak! Look out!" Shiho yelled as the Rosso Ageis tried to close in on him.
Shiho used the Rosso Aegis's beam rifle to fire at a squad of Windam's. The Aegis then transformed into Mobile Armor mode and used its "Scylla" 580mm Multi-phase Beam Cannon and fired at the enemy targets while Yzak sidestepped the charging Windam and ran his saber through it.
The Chaos then appeared again and started to fire on the Blu-Duel.
'Focus!' Yzak thought.
The Blu Duel's beam rifle lit up, the single shot skewering the Chaos's right arm.
"What the-?!" gasped Sting as his machine's right arm detonated. "ARGH!" Sting shifted to mobile armor mode and deployed his weapon pods, attempted to attack the enemy Gundam from three sides.
A trio of Windams flew past them, firing off a spread of missiles at the Minerva. The ship's CIWS guns fired back, managing to take out a third of them and even shooting down one of the Windams. The remaining missiles struck the warship while the two Windams pulled back.
The Verde Buster then fired its weapon at the enemy mobile suits. Dearka sighed and lowered his high-energy rifle.
"There's no end to them." Dearka said before he continued fighting.
"Just keep fighting." Rey said as he fired his ZAKU's weapons at the Windams nearby. Next to him Lunamaria kept firing at the enemy.
Suddenly, two more Murasames, in their mobile armor mode, raced towards them, firing. Rey dodged several of their shots before retaliating at them.
Heine lashed out with the GOUF's heat rod, coiling the weapon around the rifle of a Windam. The electric burst destroyed the rifle, but the pilot himself would be unharmed. Another flew at him, its rifle blazing. But Heine was faster, firing his right arm mounted beam guns at it, shredding it apart.
A third appeared from behind him, trying to slice the GOUF apart with a beam saber. Heine struck back, spinning and delivering a kick to the Windam's chest.
On the island below him, the Gaia in mobile armor mode watched Heine battle the Windams. It turned its beam cannons on the GOUF Ignited and fired. Heine caught it out of the corner of his eyes and dodged several blasts.
"Oh yeah?!" he said, flying down towards the Gaia. He swung the heat rod once, smacking the Gaia in the back with his Slayer Whip.
The electric shock momentarily stunned the Gaia and its pilot, allowing Heine the chance to lash out again, knocking the Gaia back, though this time, Stella recovered just in time to avoid landing on the Gaia's back by shifting to mobile suit mode.
Stella raised her rifle, aiming it at the GOUF, which had landed on the ground, but the Whip suddenly coiled around it. Stella gasped in surprise.
"This is no ZAKU!" Heine yelled.
The Exia broke off from the Freedom again before it charged again.
"Stop it, I don't' want to fight you!" Kira pleaded. Setsuna ignored his words as he charged in. Seeing no way out of this Kira fought back. The Freedom and Exia flew towards each other.
Exia swung its GN-Long Sword as the Freedom swung one of its Beam Sabers. The two weapons clash creating massive sparks. The two Gundams flew back and forth exchanging blows.
The battle continued and the Orb and Alliance forces' superior numbers continued to pose a problem as still more Windams and Murasames closed in on the Minerva.
"Four mobile suits off the Minerva's starboard bow!" Lacus yelled from the CIC Station.
"Can you fire in between them?" Murrue asked another Bridge crew member.
"Yes ma'am!" He replied.
"Then do it! Aim Gottfried Two...and don't hit those machines...FIRE!" she ordered.
The Archangel's double-barreled "Gottfried" beam cannon fired, the beam passing through the formation of four Murasames and Windams forcing them to scatter, only narrowly missing the Minerva itself.
The Freedom and Exia clashed once more.
"Fine if you won't listen, I'll defeat you!" Kira's eyes dilated and looked calm as his SEED mode active once more.
The Freedom backed off as the rail cannons and plasma cannons fired targeting the Exia's limbs.
Setsuna gritted his teeth as the Exia flew in between the beams and closed in on the Freedom,
Exia opened fire with the GN-Rifle on the Freedom as it closed on the Legendary Gundam only to watch the shots be dispersed as it struck one of the Gundam's shield.
Exia then fired the GN-Vulcan mounted on the wrist of the left arm following the Freedom's movements.
In the Savior's cockpit, Athrun watched the battle between the two Gundams as he tried to establish communication with Kira, to no avail.
"Kira...why are you doing this?" Athrun wondered. "Damn..."
"Take this!" Auel roared, ramming into the Verde Buster.
Dearka was thrown back by the mobile armor, nearly losing his cannon. As soon as the Buster righted himself, the Abyss rammed him again, but this he was prepared and fired his 350mm Gun Launcher at the stolen Mobile Suit.
The Abyss's left shoulder exploded. Auel transformed his mobile suit back, what was left of the shoulder, hanging by a tread. "You…you…you bastard!" a furious Auel shouted.
Auel scowled, but didn't move. The damage to the Abyss was severe. He couldn't stick around. "Next time," he replied, pulling back from the battlefield.
Meanwhile the Freedom and Exia continued their battle as well as shooting down/disabling any other MS that came there way.
Exia swung its sword but the Freedom blocked it before it swung its Beam Saber at the Exia, The GN-Gundam dodged before it reacted and kicked the Beam Saber out of the Freedom's hand.
Setsuna then charged at Kira with his GN-Sword.
Kira gritted his teeth as he tried to dodge the attack; unfortunately he was a bit to slow as the Exia's Sword slashed threw the Freedom's MMI-M15 "Xiphas" Rail Cannons on the right hip.
Kira then flew the Freedom away from the Exia, This Gundam was superb when it came to Close Combat, and He needed to end this battle quickly. Kira then activated the Freedom's Multi Lock-On System and tried to target the Exia's limbs as said Gundam charged at him, only to find it unable to target properly.
Suddenly the Gaia leaped wing blades ignited and firing its beam guns at the Freedom. Kira blocked the attack with the Freedom's shield then countered, slicing off the Gaia's front legs. Thrown off-balance, Stella screamed as the Gaia crashed.
Kira then heard an alert go off in his cockpit before he dodged the Exia's GN-Sword again. He then flew back and activated the Freedom's HiMAT Mode, causing its 10 wings to unfold.
The Freedom then slammed into the Exia sending its shield flying before thrusting its Beam Saber and narrowly missing the Exia's head as sparks flying from the neck joint.
Exia then swung its GN-Long Sword but the Freedom used its Beam Saber to block it and flung the Long Sword from the Exia's grasp.
Setsuna gritted his teeth as the Freedom charged past and disarmed the Exia of the GN-Sword at the same time getting behind it.
Setsuna's eyes widen as the Freedom moved behind him, Was this it, was how it was supposed to end.
Setsuna's eyes then started to glow as he received a vision of Exia glowing red and moving at impossible speeds as the words TRANS-AM displayed in the Cockpit.
Setsuna was brought out of his vision as he heard the alarms go off in his cockpit, The Freedom turned and prepared to swing its Beam Saber but then a GOUF Ignited started firing at the Freedom.
"Attacking all of us...what the hell makes you so special?" Heine yelled as he fired the GOUF Ignited's "Draupnir" beam guns.
Kira evaded the attack and accelerated forward and severed the arm neatly at the elbow as he slipped past the GOUF. Then he saw the Savior closing in, and turned his attention to it.
In the Savior's cockpit, Athrun was still trying to establish communication with Kira, to no avail.
"Son of a..." Heine mumbled and moved in to attack the Freedom again.
Below, the Gaia stood, in mobile suit mode. In its cockpit, Stella glared at what had happened to her mobile suit. She looked up at the Freedom, which had its back turned.
"Nobody does that to me..." She fumed as she pushed the throttles to their stops and took the Gaia into a powered jump towards the Freedom. Midair she switched to quadruped mode, deployed the wing beam blades, and ignited the array of thrusters built into her wings, nearly doubling her speed as she shot up towards the Freedom.
Moving in to attack himself, Heine drifted into her path without realizing it, until alarms rang in his cockpit. Instinctively he ignited the GOUF's thrusters and the mobile suit shot upwards, but not quite fast enough.
The Gaia's blade cut the GOUF Ignited in half and the machine exploded killing Heine.
"HEINE!" Athrun yelled as he witnessed the death of his comrade.
Kira then spotted the Gaia coming, and delivered a hard kick that sent the black Gundam back and knocking Stella unconsciousness.
The Chaos then swooped past and caught the machine and retreated towards the fleet.
Inside the Cockpit of the Exia, Setsuna looked at the spot from where Heine's GOUF was destroyed. But he didn't see Heine's die. He saw the death of Lockon Stratos, replay in his head over and over again along with the death of others he felt that he knew. His eyes narrowed and gripped the controls of the Exia.
"RAAAHHH!" Setsuna screamed as he charged at the Freedom.
Kira heard his cockpit alarms go off as he turned and saw Exia charging at him. He gritted his teeth as he turned the Freedom and pulled out its Beam Saber again.
The Exia also deployed both its Beam Sabers as it charged at the Freedom.
The Exia's GN Condensers and sensors began to glow as the chest lit up as well.
Setsuna then swung the Exia's Beam Saber, nearly cutting one of the Freedom's legs off.
Kira gritted his teeth as he tried to draw his MA-M20 "Lupus" Beam Rifle, but Setsuna used one of the Exia's beam sabers to cut it in half.
The Freedom then fired its MMI-GAU2 "Picus" 76mm CIWS at the Exia, but the rounds just bounced off the Exia's armor.
Setsuna then slashed at the Freedom. Kira then activated HiMAT mode and tried to block his blow with his beam saber, but the Exia was too fast and Setsuna cut off the Freedom's right arm.
The Freedom then kicked the Exia back before charging at the Gundam. Setsuna used the Exia's Beam Sabers and blocked the Freedom's Beam Saber.
Not far from them was the Savior, Athrun watched on as the two Gundam's fought.
"Kira…..Setsuna." Athrun said to himself.
Neo gritted his teeth a bit, Thanks to the Archangel's sudden appearance; they lost their chances at victory in this battle. He then turned to Matthews.
"Fire signal flares," he said. "We're withdrawing. We've lost the upper hand here."
"Yes sir," Matthews said with a nod.
"Next time, we'll be ready for the Archangel," Neo added as the flares soared into the air.
With the retreat signaled, all of the Earth Alliance and Orb pilots began to withdraw while their opponents from the Archangel and the Minerva pulled back towards their respective ships.
"Damn it!" Yzak yelled as he and Shiho retreated to the Minerva, on the ship's deck the Verde Buster and the two ZAKU's stood as Dearka, Luna and Rey waited to make sure their comrades would arrive.
All the Gundam's and Mobile Suits returned to their ships.
All expect for three…
"Where's the Exia and the Savior!" Luna asked as she noticed both Gundam's were missing. The others looked around for the two missing machines.
"There." Rey said as the others followed his glaze and saw something incredible.
The Freedom and Exia remained locked in battle, neither noticing the other retreating Mobile Suits. The Savior was a little away from them watching the battle.
"Setsuna!" Lunamaria yelled in disbelief as she saw Exia battling against the Legendary Freedom, what also shocked her was that said Legend was missing one of its arms.
As the pilots watched the battle outside, inside the Minerva's Bridge, Arthur noticed a battle still going on and brought it up to the screen.
"Captain look!" Arthur yelled in shock and awe.
Gladys turned around. Her eyes widened at what she saw.
"Setsuna!?" she said in shock as she watch Exia fight the Freedom one on one.
"Setsuna…" Meyrin whispered to as she watched in worry as the Exia continued its fight.
News of this battle spread quickly as every crew member and mechanic looked on a screen and watched the Battle unfold.
Exia swung one of its Beam Sabers at the Freedom's head damaging it. The two broke off as Kira fired all of the Freedom's cannons.
Setsuna maneuvered threw the beams before he dashed in and slashed and damaged the Freedoms wings.
The Freedom flipped over and fired its remaining M100 "Balaena" Plasma beam cannon at the Exia.
Setsuna dodged the beam as it closed in. He swung one of his beam saber at the Freedom only for it to dodge and kick the Exia's beam saber away.
The two Gundam's then continued their battle with their last remaining Beam Sabers.
The Archangel flew closer to the Freedom's location. Lacus stood up from the CIC chair as she saw the Freedom's condition.
She stood there worriedly watching the battle carefully. Her eyes then glazed at the Exia, something told her that she had seen that Mobile Suit before, but she couldn't remember where?
The Exia and Freedom stood as both Gundam's waited for the other to make a move. Both pilots positioned there remaining beam saber into an offensive stance as they both prepared to charge at each other.
But before any of them could move a beam flew past the two suits breaking their battle. Setsuna and Kira turned to see the Savior as it pointed its M106 "Amfortas" Plasma Beam Cannon in between the two suits.
"Setsuna enough of this, we have our orders to retreat." Athrun said as he looked at the Exia.
Inside the Exia's cockpit, Setsuna breathed hard as he stared at the Freedom.
Kira did the same inside the Freedom before he lowered his beam saber and turned back towards the Archangel as the catapults opened. He entered the ship as it submerged into the ocean, disappearing once again.
Exia and Savior watched where the Archangel disappeared from. The Exia then turned and started to fly off and retrieve its scattered weapons.
Athrun glazed at where the Archangel disappeared from.
"Kira." He whispered to himself before he flew back to the Minerva.
As the Freedom entered the Hanger of the Archangel, the crew and engineers were shocked to fine the state the Freedom was in, Missing one arm, most of its weapons destroyed and its head section damaged. They haven't seen the Gundam like this since the end of the last war.
Kira docked the Freedom and opened the cockpit. He climbed out of the mobile suit before he found himself wrapped into a hug by Lacus.
"Kira, are you ok!" She asked worried that he might be hurt.
"I'm fine Lacus, thanks for your concern." Kira said a bit out of character as he thought back to his battle with the Gundam. He hadn't had a battle like that since Rau Le Creusent, who ever piloted that Gundam was good.
Kira then noticed Lacus holding her head with one hand and looked a little in pain.
"Lacus are you ok?" He asked the pink haired coordinator.
"I'm fine Kira, just a small headache." She answered him with a small smile on her face. Kira then wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"Come on, let's get some rest." He said escorting her out of the hanger and to their quarters.
The Next Day
The Minerva was docked at Turkios off of the sea of Marmara while the Minerva was receiving repairs from the battle.
"I'm told that the parts are on their way from Diocuia mam…" the chief mechanic looked over at Talia as she looked at the bow of the Minerva. "It happened just as we were firing the Tannhauser, as a result the bow took significant damage…"
Talia sighed as she turned and looked back over at the body bags of the unlucky members of the crew that were caught in the explosion of the positron cannon.
"Quite honestly, this is going to take some time ma'am…" the mechanic looked at her.
Talia nodded "Yes… I know, anyway I'd appreciate you moving quickly on this… I'm sorry I'm always putting pressure on you."
The mechanic smiled "its ok captain, I understand."
Talia smiled and nodded to him before turning and making her way towards the ship again.
Meanwhile, a green-clad ZAFT soldier was loading several crates into a large Jeep. As he finished and closed the trunk, he turned to Rey, Lunamaria, and Athrun and Setsuna. The crates contained Heine's personal effects.
The soldier saluted.
"Don't worry," he said, "I'll take care to deliver Heine Westenfluss personal effects myself."
The others save Setsuna saluted, and the soldier got into the car and drove off.
The four of them turned back and started walking towards the ship.
"Why did they do this?" Lunamaria asked as they kept walking. "If they hadn't jumped into the battle like that, Heine wouldn't have..."

The Gaia's blade cut the GOUF Ignited in half and the machine exploded killing Heine.
"HEINE!" Athrun yelled as he witnessed the death of his comrade.

Athrun stopped walking and looked down in sadness as he was lost in thought.

The Blitz, charged the Strike. Kira reacted on instinct, swing the sword into the waist of the mobile suit. Kira let go of the sword, leaving it embedded in the Blitz before the G-Weapon exploded.
"NICOL!" Athrun screamed.

The Strike and clashed again and again. The Strike's left arm flew off. The Aegis's head was stabbed and then ripped off. A gash was cut across the Strike's chest, exposing the cockpit.
"ATHRUN!"

Athrun glanced out towards the dock, where he saw the rows of body bags.
'Thirteen dead...No, more than that. It's just like with Nicol...all because I was weak.' he thought, and slammed his fist into the railing.
He had to find a way to talk to Kira, to find out just what was going through his old friend's head.
"What? You think you can find that ship?" questioned Talia.
"Yes ma'am," answered Athrun, standing across the desk from her. "I'm sure you're aware of what's in my records captain. But I fought alongside that ship. During the Great War, I fought alongside the Archangel against the ZAFT forces at Battle of Jachin Due. I know the person who's most likely piloting that mobile suit, the Freedom, as well as the crew of the Archangel. And it goes without saying, I know the Orb Representative we heard." Talia frowned as Athrun paused. "But that's just it. I know them so well that… I can't fathom why they would do this. I… I just don't understand it, ma'am."
"I know how you feel," replied Talia. "I don't understand it either, but…"
"I think that after Orb sided with the Earth Forces, all they wanted was to get them to stop fighting and go home," said Athrun.
"But there must've been a better way they could've achieved their goals. A way that wouldn't have ended up with lives being sacrificed. Maybe they just don't understand the whole situation." Athrun sighed. "They don't know they're making a mistake."
"I'm sure Headquarters is going to want to take action on this," he continued. "In that case I think it's my duty to try and find them. When I talk to them, I can try and work out some kind of solution."
"And is that your judgment as a FAITH operative in the service of ZAFT?" asked Talia.
"Yes ma'am," replied Athrun. Talia sighed.
"Then I really don't have the authority to stop you," she said, turning to him and standing up. "Although, who knows what might've happened if we had fought the Earth Forces without interruption. Very well, I understand." Talia sighed. "You have my permission to leave the ship. But will you be alright by yourself?"
"Yes, I'll be fine, ma'am," said Athrun, raising his hand in salute.
Talia returned the salute.
A while later the Savior launched from the Minerva.
It was several hours later that Athrun finally found a solid lead. He'd been checking likely points to begin his search on a map on the Jeep's integrated monitor, and was driving down towards the next one when he spotted a pretty brunette he recognized from the old days of the Three Ship Alliance, at the end of the Bloody Valentine War. He stopped the car.
"Miriallia! Miriallia Haw!"
"Huh?" The Girl paused and glanced over her shoulder in the direction of the voice. She then saw Athrun as he took off his sun glasses.
"Athrun Zala?"
A short while later, the two sat at a restaurant as Athrun finished explaining what he's been up to.
"I see," she said. "And so, when the war began, you didn't stay with Orb. Instead, you went back to ZAFT."
Athrun looked away, almost guiltily. "Well, it's simplifying things, but that's what happened," he said. "Also, Dearka and I are teammates again."
Mir gave him a look when Dearka's name was mentioned.
"Um… listen, I need to talk about the Archangel." Athrun said.
"See, I knew that your old ship had left Orb, but why in the world did it end up here?" he explained. "When it interfered… things got a little…"
"A little messy?" Mir replied.
Seeing Athrun's confused expression, she continued, reaching into her bag. "I know all about it. I saw the whole thing from beginning to end." She slid him photos of the last battle she pulled out.
He rifled through a few before setting them down. "What do you want to accomplish by searching for the Archangel?"
"I just want to talk," Athrun explained. "I want to meet with them. With Kira and Cagalli too."
"Even though… you're a member of Zaft again?" She challenged.
"But that's…!" Athrun started before falling silent.
"Alright," Mir said. "It can be arranged. I can put you in touch, as long as it's just you."
"Huh?"
"It's my country but I haven't been back to Orb in a long time. I don't exactly know what's happening there. But I can't imagine anyone being happy about this situation." As she spoke, she reached out and picked up the photos she'd handed to Athrun.
The one on top showed the Freedom and Exia fighting each other.
"Especially Kira."
The Minerva
"A reconnaissance mission?" Setsuna asked.
Arthur had called him for an unexpected meeting.
"That's right," Arthur answered. "It's a formal order straight from Headquarters."
"What exactly is the mission?" Setsuna asked.
"We've received some information from a local resident," Arthur answered, indicating a location on the map of the Tarcuius area with his pointer. "Apparently, there's some kind of research facility connected to the Earth Alliance in the backwoods of the area. There's not much happening there now, but it is of significant size. And, in the past, the locals have noticed a lot of vehicles, including mobile suits, coming and going." Arthur collapsed the pointer. "We want you to head out early tomorrow morning and check on it."
"It's an extremely important mission," Arthur said. "But the potential risk isn't great enough to warrant one of the higher-ups for mere reconnaissance, good luck Dismissed."
"Roger." Setsuna said.
Athrun sat in his hotel room as the rain poured outside.
What Athrun never noticed was Lunamaria spying on him from another hotel room.
"Captain…" Chandra looked over at her.
Murrue and the other officers looked over.
"There's an incoming message." He transferred it to the screen.
"I saw an angel at the Dardanelles, I wish to meet him again, and the Red Knight is looking for his Princess. Please respond, Miriallia."
"Miriallia!?" Murrue said with shock hearing her name.
"The Red Knight?" Lacus asked.
"Athrun." Cagalli said.
"It was forwarded to us via the terminal right?" Murrue asked.
"Yes ma'am…" Chandra responded.
"I saw an angel at the Dardanelles, Miriallia must have been there." Murrue said.
"She's a freelance news photographer these days …so there's nothing unusual about her being there." Arnold looked at Murrue who nodded.
"Athrun…Athrun's return Kira!" Cagalli said.
"If Miriallia saw him, then he's back from the PLANTs." Andy spoke again. "So, what'll we do?" As he spoke, he turned to Kira.
"Let's meet them." Kira said firmly after a moment. "If Athrun really is back, then he can tell us what's happening in the PLANTs. But it's too dangerous for the Archangel to expose itself. I'll go alone."
The others looked at him with concern.
"It's all right." Kira said reassuringly. "Don't worry about it - I'll be fine."
"No, I'm going with you…" Cagalli said with determination.
"Alright, the both of us will go." Kira smiled at her.
Setsuna activated the Exia before he scanned his biometrics.
"Disengaging GN-System repose, Priority pass to Setsuna F. Seiei." He said as the Gundam began to power up.
The Exia was then loaded onto the catapult ready for launch. Setsuna gripped the controls of his Gundam.
"Exia Setsuna F. Seiei, launching." Setsuna said as the Exia was launched out of the Minerva and flew to his mission destination.
In the ocean near the cliff side, the Freedom flew out of the water as it neared the cliff.
Kira, with Cagalli at his side, glanced around, staring at the pillars that were the only notable feature of this area.
"Kira!" came the voice of Miriallia. Kira turned to see her running towards him, smiling, and he returned the smile.
"Miriallia," he greeted.
"You know, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that it was actually the Freedom flying around out there," she said, sounding overjoyed to see him again.
Her voice became more subdued as she glanced at Cagalli. "Though I did hear about how you kidnapped the bride and then high-tailed it out of Orb."
"Yeah… that's… kind of a long story," Cagalli said. "By the way, where's Athrun?"
"Sorry I couldn't tell you in the message because I had to be careful about what I wrote." Mir said as she looked down a bit.
"He's rejoined Zaft." She revealed them.
Both Kira and Cagalli's eyes widen at the news. Athrun rejoined Zaft. They heard the whistling of a fighter flying through the air.
The Savior, in mobile armor form, soared through the skies at high speed, shifting back to mobile suit mode and landing near the pillars.
"That machine." Kira said to himself as he remembered the Savior stopping the battle between him and the Exia.
The cockpit opened, and Athrun emerged, grabbing the zip line and descending. He then walked over to them.
"Kira, Cagalli," he said grimly.
"Athrun," Kira replied.
"What's the big idea, Athrun?" Cagalli asked, running up to him. "Why'd you." Athrun glanced away.
"I was… I was so worried. I had no way of contacting you because of what had happened. But why did you have to go and join ZAFT again?"
"Because at the time, I thought it was the best thing to do," Athrun answered. "For me and for Orb."
"You're kidding!" Cagalli exclaimed. "Why for Orb have to do!?"
"Cagalli," Kira said, cutting her off and placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Kira," she whispered, before stepping aside, allowing Kira to look Athrun in the face.
"This is your machine?" Kira said, glancing up at the red Gundam.
"Yes," Athrun said as he looked at the Savior as well.
"Then you fought in the battle the other day." Kira asked.
"Yes I was there to, because I'm currently with the Minerva." Athrun answered.
Both Kira and Cagalli were shocked to hear this as they remembered the ship that the Freedom fired upon.
"I saw you and tried to communicate with you, but I couldn't get through." Athrun said before glaring at Kira.
"I saw what you did. And I want to know why you did something so foolish!"
"As a result, there was chaos in the battlefield, and also resulted in unnecessary sacrifices because of you." Athrun finished.
"Something so foolish?" Cagalli began. "But, the opponents that Zaft was about to fight was the Orb fleet, we wanted it to stop!"
"Did you seriously think that by making an appearance that Orb would obediently retreat?!" Athrun shot back causing Cagalli to gasp a bit.
"What you needed to do wasn't something like that at all!" He continued, "Before you popped up in the middle of the battlefield to make a speech…you should've stopped Orb from participating with the Earth Alliance!"
"That's…" Cagalli looked down as she clenched her fist. Athrun then noticed that on her hand was the ring he gave her before leaving for the Plants, causing him to look away with sadness.
Kira stared at his two friends and kept quiet.
The Exia flew through the air as it neared its destination.
"2-4-0-0-8-2 Exia has target location insight beginning mission objective." Setsuna stated as he neared his mission zone.
Meanwhile back with Kira, Athrun and the others.
"But then…if you're telling us you've returned to the Zaft forces…What do you plan to do next?" Kira asked as both Athrun and Cagalli looked at the Ultimate Coordinator.
"Why are you looking for us?" Kira asked.
"Kira I don't think-" Cagalli began only to be cut off by Athrun.
"Because I wanted to stop you from doing something like that again!" Athrun answered. "I understand about the Junius Seven incident…But no matter how you cut it, since then, the Earth Forces have created this fiasco!"
"Even so, the PLANTs are making every effort to put an end to this foolishness!" he continued. "Yet you guys are doing nothing but confusing the situation even further!"
"Are you sure about that?" Kira asked the Zaft pilot. "Do the PLANTs really feel that way, and Chairman Durandal?"
Athrun looked at Kira in shock.
"Does he really want to put an end to this war and bring peace to this world?" Kira asked again.
"I'm sure you've seen what the Chairman is doing! And I'm sure you've heard what he's been saying! The Chairman is truly…" Athrun spoke before Kira cut him off.
"Then what's up with that Lacus Clyne?" Kira asked as Athrun stopped speaking. "What is it with that Lacus in the PLANTs?"
"W-Why that's…" Athrun stopped not knowing what to say.
"And why was the real one almost killed by Coordinators?" Kira asked as his eyes narrowed. Athrun gasped a bit hearing what Kira said.
From her hiding spot above them, Lunamaria also gasped a bit before he closely listened to the rest of the conversation.
Setsuna walked through the ruins of an old Earth Alliance base as he left the Exia under its Optical Camouflage.
He kept his helmet on in case of any strange gases and tinted his visor for some reason he didn't know, as if he had to.
Setsuna moved into the facility and looked at his surroundings. He moved deeper and deeper into the base.
"Almost killed, what are you talking about?" Athrun asked Kira as he could hardly believe what he heard.
"In Orb…we were attacked by Coordinators from the Special Forces, and their Mobile Suits." Kira said. "They were after Lacus, and that's why I decided to pilot the Freedom again."
"That can't be…" Athrun murmured.
"I don't want her, or anyone else getting killed. No one." Kira said as Luna stared at them with wide eyes as to what she just heard.
"Who would make her a target and why?" He said. "And until I have a clear answer to that, I can't trust the PLANTs."
Setsuna opened one of the doors to the Facility and turned on the lights before he walked inside. He wondered what this place was as he saw what looked like dead bodies inside giant tubes connected to wires.
Kira looked at Athrun with narrow eyes as the Zaft Gundam Pilot looked at his friend in disbelief as he thought back…

Athrun could only stare at the screen; his expression was one of surprise as the girl he had met earlier began to speak.
"My friends, it is I, Lacus Clyne. Everyone, please calm down and listen to what I have to say. The recent tragedy with Junius Seven, the Earth Alliance's declaration of war, and the attack on the PLANTs themselves, these events are all sad and tragic. I feel the same resentment that you are all feeling.
"You can go ahead and laugh." Durandal said, pulling Athrun's attention from the screen.
"It's quite pitiful that I have to resort to such a deception, but it can't be helped. The truth is her influence is great, much greater than my own. I'm sure you that must think of this utter foolishness on my part, but I fear that without Lacus Clyne, the anger of the people will blind as it did the last war." Durandal sighed.
"I am in need of her strength right now, Just as I am in need of your strength."

"If I could be of help to the Chairman and everyone on the behalf of Miss Lacus, who isn't here right now, that would make me happy, I'm also happy that I got the opportunity to meet you Athrun!" Meer said to him as the two sat at a dinner table.

"I have to agree with you Setsuna, there are many people who wish for mutual understanding in the world." Durandal replied. "But there are others who hate, fear and despise those who are different. People continue to fight each other for reasons like these. However, war has another side, a more hopeless and unforgivable side to it, more merciless."

"Athrun?" spoke Cagalli's voice and bringing Athrun out of his thoughts.
"If Lacus was actually targeted…as you say…that is really terrible. But saying that you can't believe in the Chairman or the PLANTs because of it…aren't you jumping to conclusions to quickly Kira?"
"Athrun." Kira spoke.
"There are a lot of people in the PLANTs, with many different ideals. So even this latest assault could be something … the Chairman knows nothing about, it could have been done…by a handful of people all on their own!" Athrun stated.
"Athrun." Kira spoke again.
"I would of expected that to be obvious to you!" he finished as Kira darted his eyes away.
"Well if that's true. In any case, I'll look into the incident when I return to the ship; in the meantime, you guys should go back to Orb." Athrun finished as Cagalli looked at him with shock and sadness in her eyes.
"What, aren't you…" Cagalli began as Athrun turned to her.
"If you want the fighting to end and want to keep Orb out of it…then do something about that treaty with the Alliance." He said to her. "It's too late to solve things on the battlefield."
"I understand that but…aren't you coming back with us?" Cagalli asked him and catching Athrun off guard with that question. He looked away.
Setsuna sat inside the Exia's cockpit as he contacted the Minerva.
"Exia, this is the Minerva," Meyrin replied. "What's wrong?"
"I located the ruins of an Earth Alliance Facility and I believe that the Captain would need to see this."
"Understood," Captain Gladys said over the channel. "I'm launching the Minerva. We'll be there ASAP. Hold on until then."
"Roger that." Setsuna said as he turned off the com.
"If Orb remains the country it's always been…we'll all be heading along the same path." Athrun said.
"Athrun!" Cagalli pleaded to him.
"I've gone back to the military; I can't go back to you now!" He told her and causing Cagalli to look at him in sadness.
"But…" She began but couldn't find the words. Athrun saw the ring on her finger again and looked away.
Kira then walked up and put his hand on Cagalli's shoulder. Kira then looked at Athrun who looked back at him.
"Then are you saying that from now on, you'll be with Zaft…and keep fighting the Alliance?" Kira said as Athrun thought back to his battles with the Minerva.
"Until the war ends….it can't be helped." Athrun answered. Cagalli looked shock as Mir looked sad.
"Then you'll fight against Orb to, like the other day?" Kira asked with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"I don't want to if that's possible, but in this case I have no choice but to fight!" Athrun stated shocking the two siblings. "I'm sure you guys are well aware of what the Alliance is doing here; we must stop it at all cost!"
"That's why I'm telling you to do something about the treaty and have Orb step back." He finished.
"But….Athrun." Kira said. "I understand what you're saying, but we don't want you fighting against Orb, even with the way things are now."
"Kira!" Athrun said in shock at what his friend said.
"Actually, not only Orb because what is lost in battle…will never return."
Athrun's eyes widen a bit as he remembered the Freedom firing at the Minerva and Heine's death. Athrun's fist clenched in anger.
"Cut it out with your petty talks, as if you have all the answers!" Athrun yelled in anger. "Don't forget all the lives you've personally taken!"
"I know." Kira replied. "And I'm real sick and tired of all of it. I don't want to fight, don't make me fight."
Up in her hiding spot, Lunamaria looked at the scene in shock before she heard a beeping sound coming from her vehicle.
Meanwhile the Minerva launched from its resting area and headed for Setsuna's location.
"All the more reason why you must stop what you're doing and go back to Orb." Athrun said to Kira.
"Got it." Athrun said before he turned around and started walking back towards the Savior.

"Athrun!" Cagalli spoke and stopping him. Athrun turned back and looked at her and saw the ring on her and remembered the day he gave her the ring before leaving for the PLANTs.
Athrun then looked forward once again. "There are certain things I can understand, but not accept." He said as Cagalli looked at him with wide eyes.
"You know what I mean." Athrun finished and started walking towards the Savior again.
Moments later, The Savior then took off into the air as Cagalli, Kira and Mir watched with sadness in their eyes.
From on top of the cliff, Lunamaria watched them as the Savior flew off into the horizon.

But the Gaia Gundam attacks in hopes of protecting the Facility. Can Setsuna and Exia protect his comrades and defeat the stolen Gundam.

I hope you all liked the Exia vs Freedom battle, I know it looked like Exia might of been a bit OP but remember Kira holds back and tries not to kill the Pilot while Setsuna doesn't care and will kill.
Its because of Kira holding back that Setsuna was winning for a bit. That and Kira has never battled a GN-Powered Gundam before so he doesn't know what to expect like how his targeting computer couldn't work on Exia.
I also did it to show the COSMIC ERA That the Freedom can be damaged and that Kira ISN'T Jesus Yamato!
