AN: As I search through my previous chapters, I have noticed a difference in my writing compared to know. Because of this, I'm going to continue this story, and actually add some plot.
A Night to Remember
Red's POV
8:30 P.M.
"Oh my Arceus…" My eyes widened at what I realized had happened. I stood in the lobby, trying to search for the note that the boss had told me to receive. The note had given me instructions on what to do for the third round, and the Boss had plans for that.
When I finally used my Pokémon to determine that the note was not in here, I used my videophone to try and contact the boss. I tapped the top of the screen, causing the screen to turn on. Finally, the selection screen was visible, and, fortunately, the boss could be contacted. I selected his option, and his face came up on my screen.
"Agent R, why are messaging me?"
"Boss, something really bad happened. Like, really bad…"
"Agent R, I swear, if you don't tell me…"
"The note has been lost." When I said this, the boss' eyes widened like mine did previously. From the way his face clenched, I could tell he was trying to suppress his anger and remain calm.
"Fortunately, there was a tracker on the note, so I've determined the location. It's with someone, but you need to figure that out."
"A better opportunity couldn't have been presented; the Pokémon League party is tonight, at nine."
"Team up with Obsidian and find the note." With that, my screen turned to static, meaning that he had cut off communication. I rubbed my forehead in stress; if I didn't find that note, my head would be off in a matter of minutes. The last time I remember the Boss getting angry, an entire troupe of Grunts was fired, and they were cut off from finding other jobs.
Deciding not to think about what could happen if I didn't find the note, I quickly exited the lobby of the Pokémon World Tournament Center. I quickly ran with my Running Shoes at an accelerated speed, meaning that I reached the Driftveil City Pokémon Center quite quickly. A Nurse Joy greeted me, and, to avoid suspicion, I waved back, and quickly took the elevator to Nelly's room floor.
I got to Floor 7, which had a red, carpeted floor. The walls were painted a nice shade of yellow, matching the red quite well. I checked my videophone to see if I had gotten the room number. Fortunately, saving me the trouble of trying to find it, her room number was listed under her icon. It was room 723. I quickly dashed across the hallway, taking in the various numbers until I reached my destination. I knocked on the door, which opened to Agent Obsidian.
Her honey-colored hair was styled into a ponytail, with the band barely visible. She wore a dark grey polo shirt, with a pink collar, and a pink collar in the center between her shoulders. She wore a pink, short skirt, thick pink shoes, and pink star-shaped earrings.
"Wow, you look ready for the party."
"Unlike you." She moved away from the door, and I entered the room. I closed the door behind me slowly, as a way to avert attention. Agent Obsidian turned to me strangely, wondering why I was here.
"What do you want, Agent R?"
"The Boss wants us to team up together. The note that was supposed to be for us was lost, and someone at the party has it."
"Sounds like a blast. But, before that, you should get ready."
"Ready for what?" I raised my eyebrows at her statement. From her facial expression that followed afterwards, I saw her do a mental facepalm.
"You need to get ready for the party! Luckily, I have some guy clothes with me for disguises…"
After a few minutes, my outfit was completely changed. My brown hair wasn't tucked under a hat anymore. It was combed. I was dressed in a tuxedo, with black shoes to match. I looked pretty nice, if I do say so myself. The good thing is that Obsidian added a secret compartment for Poké Balls. I transferred my Pokémon to the compartment. I looked at the clock; it was 9:00. It was time to go.
Dawn's POV
9:30 P.M.
Man, this party was amazing! The food was great, the music was cool, and I think all of us were having a lot of fun! I wore a light blue cocktail dress, with a white belt around my waist. The straps were also a white color, with white buttons running down through the middle of my chest.
Lucas was eating a Cinnabar burger, which was another plus about this party. The food was from all over the world, and was divided into sections. There was a Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova section, which allowed for people to try new things from other regions.
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you! I was hanging out with Lucas and Barry because they help de-stress me in certain situations. I tucked the note safely in my back pocket, wanting to make sure I didn't lose it. I didn't trust leaving it in my room, but then again, a party may not have been the best place to put it.
Suddenly, I saw Red and a girl with honey-colored hair enter the party through the front door. The two looked absentminded, but I still went over to greet them.
"Hey, Red!"
"Wha-oh, hey Dawn." I raised my eyebrows, and tilted my head at his behavior. Why did he look so…guilty about something?
"Red, what's the matter? You don't look too happy."
"What? Nah, I'm fine." After answering what I had said, he had given me a teethy smile. I decided that I was just overreacting, and that he was fine. Plus, I saw a girl that Red should be familiar with walk over. Leaf wore a green darling dress, which went up to her knees. It matched with her blue eyes, and skin tone; I commended her for the outfit.
"Red, I was wondering when you'd get here!" Leaf grinned. Red looked shocked as well, before playing it coolly. Red took Leaf's arm in an elbow, and they walked together onto the dance floor. The girl that Red was with looked angry for a second, before she stormed off into another direction. I thought it was strange, but I put that out of my mind. Ignorance is bliss, right?
As I walked away from the entrance, I began to open my eyes to see what was actually going on. Everything looked perfect; Ethan and Wally were on their first date, which I applaud them for. Ruby and Sapphire were doing couple things, like Ruby giving a Sapphire a rose for her champagne at midnight dress with a black belt. That definitely earned some awws from me, but I thought that would just make Sapphire blush. She awarded him with various kisses on his cheek.
Suddenly, a slow song started to play. Leaf and Red began to dance with each other, while Ethan and Wally danced with each other as well. I clasped my hands over my mouth to try and prevent myself from saying how cute they were.
As I saw all the couples around me, I looked down at the ground. I probably would've just had to sit this one out, but that's okay. At least I'm not missing much, right? When I walked forward, I accidentally bumped into someone. When I looked up, I saw it was Barry, and the latter grinned.
"Miss Dawn, would you like to dance?" Barry asked, leaning forward slightly with his hand out. I blushed, and took his hand. He took my other hand, and we began to dance to the slow song playing throughout the room. The sound of my heels clicked on the wooden floor, as I found myself getting into dancing with Barry. The blonde actually knew how to dance, and he was pretty good at it, too! He spun me around, and, by the time the song finished, he was holding me with his arms.
"Thank you, Barry…" I told him, and he smiled. I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, before strolling off in another direction. From the corner of my eye, I saw his face turn red, and Lucas patting him on the back.
Dancing with Barry was nice. It felt great actually not being the one to sit out for the slow songs for once. Wait, what am I saying?
I put that thought in the back of my head to think about something else. I took a glass of soda, and drank it, before searching for my female friends and deciding to hang out with them.
Nelly's POV
9:56 P.M.
Ugh! I cannot believe that Agent R ditched me for that girl! No, I'm not speaking with jealousy; get that out of the way. He left me to do all the work in finding the note, while he got to spend time with his girlfriend.
What was worse was that I was having horrible luck in trying to find it, and more and more people were seeing me. Having my face known wasn't good, even though I do have a different hair color and disguise for every day, just in case.
I got angry at my inconvenience, and stomped my heels on the ground. This created a sound that exemplified my anger; this satisfied me. I continued to walk, all while picking up some food for energy. Hey, an agent needs to be healthy to do her duties, right?
Suddenly, I had found a lead. When I looked at the pockets of the various people at the party, I noticed a girl with a light blue dress. Her back pocket was indented slightly back, meaning that she had something with her. I quickly approached her, wanting to try and pickpocket her.
The girl who had blue hair was talking with her friends. I couldn't care less about their names; all I needed was the note. I quickly tried to stroll on by, and take the note without alerting her. When I put my hand in her back pocket, she quickly turned at me with wide eyes.
"Hey! Why were you doing that?" The girl yelled at me, and the crowd fell silent. My cover was being blown quickly, but they didn't know who I was yet. I began to chuckle evilly, getting from a small volume to a higher volume as my laughter continued. The crowds of people moved behind Dawn.
"My name is Agent Obsidian, and I'm a member of Team Plasma. We're the ones responsible for the destruction of S.S. Sequine, and the reason why Champion Cynthia has not appeared in the tournament yet. You have something that I need." I said, and with every word I spoke, their eyes twisted into ones that wanted to kill me. Perfect; I could exploit this psychological weakness. The crowd all got their Poké Balls out, but the girl with the blue her thrust her hand to the side with a look of determination.
"Don't worry, everyone. I'm going to defeat her, no matter what!" The girl said, and she took a step forward. I heard someone call her Dawn, which told me her name. That could also be used for other information.
"We're going to fight a Double Battle, but we can only use two Pokémon."
"Agreed."
I stepped back a couple of feet, and so did the crowd of people standing behind Dawn. The arena was basically the wooden dance floor, which was quite large, since it accommodated the five regions' Pokémon Leagues.
That wasn't the focus right now, however. The focus was to try and obtain the slip of paper, and this girl was in my way. From my secret compartment in the back of my dress, I chose two Poké Balls. Dawn did the same from a bag that she had brought.
"Butterfree, and Weezing, come on out!" I called out, as I spun around, and threw the two Poké Balls into the makeshift field. They bounced off the ground, before revealing the Butterfly Pokémon and the Poison Gas Pokémon respectively. The two looked determined to win, which I intended to do.
"Let's go, Etienne, and Sora!" Dawn yelled, as she threw the two Poké Balls in the air. Like mine, they bounced on the ground before releasing an Empoleon and a Staraptor. Once this had happened, the battle had officially begun. Since I had released my Pokémon first, I had the first turn.
"Weezing, use Sludge Bomb on the Staraptor! Butterfree, use Quiver Dance!" I commanded my two Pokémon. Weezing released a load of black sludge from its two mouths, which was aimed at the Staraptor. I figured that the Sludge Bomb would be able to ground it, since it was sticky. Dawn would get distracted, so my Butterfree would be able to raise its own stats automatically.
"Sora, use Double Team to avoid the sludge! Etienne, use Yawn on the Butterfree to prevent it from gaining any more stats!" Dawn called out to her Pokémon. The Staraptor glowed a faint white, before copying itself. The sludge hit one clone, which caused it to disappear into thin air. Unfortunately, this meant that the sludge had missed the Staraptor.
After the Staraptor dodged my attack, the Empoleon gave out a mighty yawn. A puff of smoke drifted towards Butterfree, but the latter was moving in a circle from Quiver Dance. Soon enough, the puff of smoke hit my Butterfree, causing it to become sleepy. Dawn smirked from the other side, while I grit my teeth in annoyance.
"Butterfree, use Sleep Powder on the Staraptor!" I commanded, pointing at the Predator Pokémon. Butterfree flapped its vibrant, white and black-accented wings, releasing a light green powder over the Staraptor.
"Sora, use Defog!" Dawn commanded, waving her hand over open air. The Staraptor began to flap its wings outwards, making the sleep-inducing powder spread across harmlessly on the floor. Dawn smiled, knowing that she had averted the dangerous attack quite well.
"Etienne, use Rock Slide!" Dawn commanded. The Empoleon's eyes glowed a faint white, and it raised its blue wings up into the air. Rocks formed above my Pokémon, and I needed to think quickly since the rocks would damage Butterfree by quite much.
"Butterfree, use Psychic on the rocks!" I ordered. The Butterfly Pokémon's eyes glowed a faint blue, and blue psychic energy surrounded the rocks. Butterfree lifted its head up rapidly, which sent the rocks flying towards Empoleon and Staraptor. The rocks were too fast for Dawn to react, allowing them to hit Staraptor and Empoleon. The Empoleon recoiled only slightly, while Staraptor was affected by super-effective damage. It recoiled back, wincing in pain. Dawn looked annoyed, before moving onto another attack.
"Sora, use Roost!" Dawn ordered. The Staraptor landed, losing its Flying-type for one turn. This move also restored at least fifty percent of its health, which basically took away the damage I had inflicted on it previously.
"Etienne, use Agility!" Dawn ordered her other Pokémon. The Empoleon moved around quickly, increasing its speed to dangerous levels. I was actually worried for a second, but I caught myself; in battles, you shouldn't get too frazzled, especially if you're a person with a high standard.
"Weezing, use Toxic on her Staraptor!" I yelled at my Pokémon. The Poison Gas Pokémon unleashed a cloud of toxins that rained down from above the Staraptor. The attack was nearly unavoidable, and the Staraptor was hit, allowing it to be inflicted with a badly poisoned status. Dawn frowned slightly, before going into her next maneuver.
"Etienne, use Scald!" Dawn commanded, pointing at my Butterfree. The Water-type Pokémon unleashed a powerful, high-pressured blast of water. I tried to make my Butterfree dodge, but I was unable to; the blast was too fast. The water hit my Butterfree, grounding it for a second. Then, it flew back up, but I could see a red mark on its wings, meaning that it was burned.
At the end of that action, my Butterfree glowed red for a couple of seconds, and recoiled. Her Staraptor glowed a faint purple, and recoiled. These signified the damage from the burn and poison respectively. This was definitely going to be a game changer, regardless on who has the advantage.
Dawn's POV
10:12 P.M.
The battle was definitely getting intense, but I refused to lose! I could tell that my Pokémon had the same determination that I did with winning, due to the fact that Sora was holding her ground despite the toxins inside of her.
"Etienne, use Whirlpool!" I commanded, pointing at the ground in front of the Water-type. My Empoleon began to spin its head, and squirted water out at the same time. The water formed a beautiful, sapphire whirlpool of water. When the whirlpool was at its most refined, Etienne shot his forward, throwing it into the center.
"Sora, use Heat Wave!" I ordered the Flying-type. My Staraptor began to hold in a powerful breath, and, when it was released, a wave of flames and blazes swept across the field into the Whirlpool. This caused both of the attacks to merge, allowing it to damage the two Pokémon.
"Butterfree, Weezing, look out!" Agent Obsidian called out from her side. Her Butterfree tried to move, but was hit with super-effective damage from the Heat Wave. It fell to the ground, visibly damaged. The Weezing tried to dodge, but the hit was inevitable; despite taking damage, it had not fallen.
When I observed the Butterfree, I could see that it was unconscious. It had closed its eyes, meaning that the Whirlpool-Heat Wave combination attack was highly effective against it. Agent Obsidian grit her teeth, and then she returned the Butterfree to its Poké Ball. My Staraptor took damage from the poison, and I realized that the damage was slowly doubling over time. This meant that my Staraptor was open for attack.
"Weezing, use Thunderbolt on the Staraptor!" Agent Obsidian called out to her Pokémon. She pointed at my Staraptor, to which I needed to think quickly. As the Weezing glowed a bright yellow, I began to quickly think of some plan that I needed to do.
"Etienne, use Mud Sport!" I called out, knowing that the strategic move I did would be effective. My Empoleon tucked in its wings, and then opened them fiercely, releasing mud from its mouth. The mud landed all over the battlefield, weakening the power of Electric-type attacks. When the Weezing's Thunderbolt struck Sora, it was only damaged slightly. It winced back in pain, but the Staraptor quickly returned to its normal state. I could see Agent Obsidian's face clench up in annoyance.
"Ugh, you annoying little child! Well, I know when I'm beaten…" Agent Obsidian grinned evilly when she stated that last part. My eyes widened at what she was about to do, and I quickly braced for it.
"Weezing, use Explosion!" Agent Obsidian commanded, pointing at the Pokemon League and I. The Weezing clenched up its face, gathering energy. I only had a few seconds to try and stop the damage.
"Sora, Etienne, use Protect!" I yelled, while keeping my arms in front of my face. The rest of the League behind me did the same. My two Pokémon surrounded themselves in large green orbs of invincibility. The Weezing exploded only a few seconds after that, releasing black smoke from where it used to stand. I coughed at the black smoke, and so did everyone else.
"Sora, use Defog!" I ordered, and my Staraptor flapped its wings. This cleared the air, but Agent Obsidian had already made her leave. This was when the League began to ask questions. I quickly yelled to make everyone calm down.
"Everyone, I know the reason why she came to the party. I found a note earlier in the lobby." I explained, as the others listened. I could see their confused looks until I took the note out of my back pocket. I showed it to them, until someone came to the front of the crowd.
"I'll take it! I mean…I can analyze it to see what it's about…" Red said a little too quickly at first. Then, he regained his composure, and took the note out of my hands. He put it in his pocket, and I was glad that the matter was resolved. Unfortunately, the party was over, so all of us left to go back to the Pokémon Center.
Red's POV
11:00 P.M.
I knocked on Obsidian's door, and she opened it with a fierce look on her face. She had changed her appearance once again. Now, her hair was a turquoise color, and she swept her hair into one side. Then, she had two long braids that were held up from gel. She wore a jacket that resembled mine, except hers was grey with black markings. Obsidian also wore a pair of dark grey jeans, and a pair of grey Mary Janes with a black bow on them.
"You just left me to do all the work by myself, and went out to dance with that stupid girlfriend of yours!" This statement angered me, but I had to control it if I wanted to give her the good news.
"First of all, she is not stupid. Second of all, we may not be completely out of luck after tonight."
"What do you mean?"
"After you lost, Dawn ended up revealing that she had the note."
"No, really? Why else did you think I battled her?"
"And lost?"
"Was that last part really necessary?"
"Yes. But, back to the topic. I took it from her, saying that I'd analyze it."
"Wonderful. Show me the note." Obsidian demanded, and I gave it to her without giving too much of a fuss. She read it, and her mouth went wider and wider until it became a crooked smile. Obsidian laughed slightly, before telling me to go to bed. We needed our rest for tomorrow; it was third round, and I did not intend to lose.
