Chapter 10: Black Out

*^*^LEGOLAS' POV^*^*

It seemed as though we couldn't make it back to the gates soon enough. I have not felt at ease since we left the boarders. Orcs never travel alone so where one is, others usually follow. What didn't make sense was their nerve to cross into the Valley. Never in my three thousand years have they been so brave. Even more, how did they slip past the sentries guarding the boarders?

I tightened my hands into Arthion's mane and urged him forward slightly faster hoping Raina would follow suit. I wanted Lina back in the safety of the city. It was foolish of me to bring her out this far even in the light of day without escort. We had been riding for about fifteen minutes, when I heard the sound of something shooting through the air. I couldn't move fast enough. I heard the arrow make contact with flesh, and it was not my own. My blood turned cold as I saw a black arrow embedded in Lina's shoulder. I grabbed my own bow and shot an arrow back in the direction whence the offender came from. I heard a grunt of pain and assumed I hit my mark. As I turned to see how she fared, I saw her slip from Raina's saddle and hit the ground, hard. The impact pushed the arrow clear through so it was sticking out on both sides. I jumped down quickly and went to her side.

"Lina?! You must wake up! We are still some way from the city." Her eyes were closed but her face was strained in pain. Her heart was beating hard and fast while her breath was slow and shallow. I took out my twin blade and went to saw off the ends of the arrows. I can't treat this wound. I brought no such supplies for a simple ride. I tucked the tip in a leather pouch in case it was poisoned.

"Valar, please let it not be, we may never make it back in time."

I called Arthion over and he kneeled down knowing something was wrong. I gently pulled Lina onto his back and slid on behind her, holding her against me tightly.

"Quickly Arthion. Reach the city as quick as you can!" The horse bolted back towards the last homely house at haste that rivaled a steed of the Nazgul. Her head rolled back and I heard a gasp of pain from her lips. Though I didn't want her in pain, it showed she was fighting.

"Hold on Lina, please! For me, hold on!" I whispered into her ear as I edged my horse even faster. To make matters worse, I heard heavy footsteps trailing behind us. I turned to see three more Orcs running arrows flying past my head. One managed to graze my right arm, drawing blood but nothing significant. I couldn't shoot so I took another path that weaves through the trees more to give us the cover until we were closer to the city. I was very relieved to pass a guard who looked at us once, saw the Orcs following, and drew his bow.

We reached the city gates to be greeted by Elrond and his twin sons. None of them looked pleased but I assume if looks could kill, Elrohir would be a murder and I would be in the Halls of Mandos.

"Get her inside quickly." Elrond ordered as two elves brought a cot to make moving her easier. I handed her off to the twins who placed her there and disappeared quickly after their father. I followed them to the halls of healing and was met by frantic Arwen, who went in with her father to help, and Friel who came up and looked me over quickly. Elladan looked at me and motioned for me to follow him to a nearby cot.

"It is not poisoned is it?" He asked gesturing to my arm.

"I do not believe so. I could not keep the arrow. Here is the one that struck Lina." I said offering the arrow head to the elder twin. His face dropped greatly upon glancing at the top.

"Black Venom, it is a rare and strong poison, used only for important targets. I am surprised she lasted this long. I must tell Ada." He said disappearing into that room quickly. My head dropped farther. Was I the intended target then? Not many knew of her existence, I know no one outside of Rivendell did until this festival.

So if I cannot even protect her in her own realm; how would I do so in Mirkwood? It is a realm of dangers around every corner. However, now I may never get to tell her of my intentions of courtship with her. I lay down on the cot and started at the ceiling, letting worry take my thoughts.

Sometime later, I became aware of the pain on my arm again as my thoughts continued to travel to the elleth being treated in the next room.

I smoothed the salve Elladan had made over my cut. It burned and stung but I started to tie a cloth around it. Elrohir came over and started to bind my wound in Elladan's but refused to make eye contact. This was very unlike him even under dire circumstances he would at least acknowledge ones presence.

"What is wrong my friend?"

"Do not act as if you do not know." He snapped pulling the bandage painfully tight.

"Elrohir, if I have done something..." I started but it was like the piece of straw that broke the horse's back.

"She was just opening to everyone; to me! Then you just waltz in and sweep her into your web of charm. Now she is hurt and if it is truly Black Venom poison..."

"I did not take her away Ro, it is the festival, is it not custom for dances and tours? She willingly accepted my offers. I will not deny my attraction and interests in her but if you are assuming I wanted her to get hurt today..." I was insulted by the fact that he could contemplate such an atrocious thought!

"I-" he was cut off by the door opening.

Lord Elrond looked exhausted and Elladan stood behind looking just as tired both faces were unreadable.

"What has happened?" I asked.

"It is something I have never seen before; even among the Istari. She has healed herself; there is not even a scar." My heart restarted and I felt relief flow through my body. She is alive!

"How is this possible? When we first found her she was on the brink of death with a much worse injury and now you say that she has healed herself from the most potent poison in Middle Earth?!" Elrohir said baffled. Found her? Brink of death? How had she come to Elrond's house?

"She is sleeping now. Arwen is watching over her. Friel would you mind joining her? We will take this discussion elsewhere." He said looking at his sons.

"Legolas please join us. There is much to tell you if you still intend to court her." I froze. I had not even decided for sure that I wished to do so. Foresight can be annoying.

*^*^LINA's POV^*^*

I felt warm. I felt water washing over my feet. Ease flowed over my body as I enjoyed this moment of peace. My hands tingled and my stomach had that feeling of thrill. I opened my eyes to see the most beautiful scene I have ever seen. The sun was setting over the water but it was captured between two cliffs. Boats sailed off in the distance. The waves were warm and I looked around to see nothing but sand. Strangely, I wasn't nervous. I felt calm. As the sun dipped below the horizon, I felt pain in my shoulder. I looked over and saw the hole in my skin where the arrow had once been.

"Use your ring." It was a barely audible whisper in the wind. The voice was unplaced but I raised my hand to the wound. As it made contact with the skin, warmth exploded into my body. The bleeding stopped and right before my eyes, the tissue stretched and closed the wound. The area was completely healed in moments.

"Do not be afraid of your destiny..." It was the voice again.

"What destiny? I've been here for nine months and no destiny has been shown to me!" I shouted.

"To bear this ring is your destiny…"

"Why would I fear it?"

"Those before you have. Go, you must return to your world."

I closed my eyes to enjoy the last bit of peace around me.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself looking up at a familiar ceiling. I sat up and felt no pain anywhere, but my muscles were stiff. I looked around and no one was nearby. Not even a maid or servant. I swung my feet over my bed and slipped on soft slippers. I went quickly to my wardrobe, picked a loose pink gown, and braided my hair. I left my room to go knock on Arwen's door. No answer. I then proceeded to the twins rooms. Still nothing.

"Where is everyone?!" I asked throwing my hands up in the air. My last stop was Lord Elrond's study.

I heard voices arguing inside.

"She has been unconscious for four days, how do we know the poison did not take effect before she healed herself?" It was Elrohir. He sounded furious.

"She is fine. Her body used a lot of energy to complete its healing process. This is much like her previous injury. She healed in a week when it should have taken months. But she was sleep for some time. This is not the first time. Gather yourself Elrohir."

"What of her trip to Lorien? Even if she wakes in time, she surely would not travel right away?" It was Legolas' voice. I felt relief sweep over me. I knew not what happened after I blacked out and then awoke in my dream world. What happened to him? Hopefully, he is uninjured.

"That would be up to her. Although, prolonging a summon from the lady is not a smart idea." Elrond stated.

"I will go with them as well. I have to cross the mountains anyways and it would only be an additional three days to my journey home. We would have more protection with my guards as well." Legolas offered. I would be more than happy to spend more time with Legolas.

"The more the merrier." I said it aloud not meaning to. I heard chairs move and the door swung open to reveal four Elf Lords. Three dark haired and one blond. All four held looks of relief and joy as they look in my figure. Legolas pulled me into his arms in a large protective hug. I leaned my head on his shoulder and smiled. Seeing him well made me relax further.

"Lina" he whispered in my ear.

We just held on to each other for a few moments before Lord Elrond cleared his throat. We separated instantly and put a good three feet between us. I prayed the blush didn't show on my face.

"Glad to see you awake, my dear. Take a seat we have much to discuss." Oh boy what did I do now?

"Care to explain how you healed yourself and rid your body of the strongest poison found in Middle Earth?" Elrohir asked with cold eyes. It scared me how emotionless his eyes were.

"It was a dream..." I relayed all that I remembered from the black out.

"Let me see the ring again Evangelina." Elrond said holding out his hand. I pulled off the band and I felt weak and light headed. I almost fell forward. Legolas, who was next to me, braced me.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Just a little light headed that's all." He sat the ring on his desk and observed it carefully for some time.

"The design looks so familiar but so distant. I cannot place it nor the magic behind it. I only pray to the Valar that Galadriel can shed some light on the situation." He handed me back the ring and as I slid it into place feeling better as soon as the metal touched my skin.

Soooo… what do you think? Good or bad? I had to throw a Leggy Point of View at some point in time. I love writing from his point of view. Anyways! I have the next few chapters just about finished but school is getting hectic again so I will space them accordingly.

Please Review! I love them sooo much. Follows and Favs are also welcome!

Until Next Time!
