Episode 9
I'm Expendable
Previously on… Survivor…
Roy uncovered the fact that Anise had been pulling of the strings of two fake alliances…
"There aren't actually two alliances, there's only one!" Roy says. "But the person pulling the strings wants us to think there's two. Now who could that be? It's either Kasumi or Anise. It's my goal to figure out who's in charge. But I can't do it in front of my alliance. They'll turn on me if I cause trouble."
But unveiling that fact just made Roy into a target.
Kasumi sighs. "Who are you going to vote for?"
"Roy! He's obviously up to no good."
At the reward challenge, Kasumi purposely aided Anise in victory.
"Anise, you seem pretty close to Kasumi. In fact, if my eyes weren't mistaken, it almost looks like Kasumi was trying to help you win that challenge."
Knowing that Anise and Kasumi were close, Peter wondered if he and Angela should force a tie…
"A duo can be very dangerous," Peter states.
"I'm starting to wonder if we ought to knock out Anise or Kasumi and split them up," Peter says. "If everything Roy's said is true, then that would really turn this game on its ear."
Peter won immunity yet again, and he went to Tribal Council under the pretense that he and Angela would be voting for Anise.
"So, you going to vote with us against Anise?" Roy asks. "That's really the only hope for you guys."
"Definitely," Peter says. "I don't have to worry about a purple rock because of my immunity. And even if I did, I've been willing to pick rocks in the past."
But there was a real shock when the final vote went for Roy instead of Anise…
"We have…"
He opens the final vote the whole way.
"A sixth vote for Roy."
So Roy went home, and full control of the game fell into Anise's hands. 9 are left. Who will be voted out tonight?
Day 25
TJBambi Tribe
Peter is awfully upset with Angela that morning, after Angela had voted for Roy instead of Anise.
"I was willing to pick rocks for you, yet you weren't willing to pick rocks for me!" Peter shouts at Angela. "How is that fair?"
"How do we even know if voting out Anise was the right decision?" Angela shouts back. "She promised us that we'd make it past Limberg and Cyrano if we voted with her!"
"Oh, and what good is that going to do?" Peter yells. "Are we playing for sixth and seventh place, or are we playing to make the Final Three? Now Anise's alliance of five can pick us off at will!"
"Look, we weren't guaranteed anything by a rock pull!" Angela yells. "The best-case scenario was that we would get in an alliance with Roy, Limberg and Cyrano, none of which could be trusted. One way or another, we were going to have to find a way to get by! I just took the safe route!"
Peter walks away, still angry.
"This is beyond frustrating," Peter says. "I picked a rock for Angela, in a case where I had a 50% shot at going home. She wouldn't pick a rock in a scenario where there was only a 1-in-7 shot that she'd go home. And now, we have practically no shot at reaching the Final Three. I didn't come out here to finish sixth or seventh, I came out here to finally win!"
"Peter is angry for stupid reasons," Angela says. "He's blowing this out of proportion. He had some idea about us banding with Roy, Limberg and Cyrano, when those three can't be trusted either. If he doesn't stop it, I'll vote him out!"
Meanwhile, Anise couldn't be more thrilled with how the vote turned out.
"I told you everything would be fine!" she tells Kasumi. "Now come play some games with us!"
Kasumi sighs. "You really put a target on your back by doing that."
"Kasumi, we have the numbers now. It's us five to the end. The order of the next four is completely insignificant. We can just party for the next 12 days!"
Kasumi shakes her head in disbelief.
"I've never seen someone press their luck like Anise is, and she is pressing her luck," Kasumi says. "All it takes is one person to turn, and we're doomed. But maybe Konata, Grune and Fluttershy really are that clueless."
She looks over to see Anise, Grune, Fluttershy and Konata dancing and singing "Ring around the Rosie."
"Any jury would be nuts to vote for any of those three, the way they're playing," Kasumi says. "And Anise, she's going to get herself ousted before the Final Three, I just know it. Maybe I shouldn't be complaining, I'm going to win this game!"
Limberg and Cyrano sit in the shelter, watching the girls play.
"We've got to figure something out, ah-CHOO," Cyrano says.
"I'll think something up," Limberg replies.
"Limberg and I are pretty much hopeless," Cyrano says. "We're in an extreme minority. I don't even know if Angela and Peter are still with us. It's going to simply be a battle to win immunity every time from here on out."
"I'm not giving up yet, squinky," Limberg says. "The goal is to find the weakest link in the group of five, and try to convince her to go against the others. The problem is, the moment I do that, I put a huge target on my back. But at this point, I've got not much left to lose."
So later in the day, as the girls are all eating some rice, Limberg goes over to talk to Grune.
"Say, squinky, would you be interested in joining a new alliance?" Limberg asks her.
"Oh, come on now, I have no use for alliances!" Grune replies. "I'm enjoying myself just fine."
"But don't you want to win the game?" Limberg wonders. "With Cyrano and myself, you could easily make the Final Three."
"Oh, silly, I'm going to make the Final Three anyway!" Grune exclaims. "And maybe even win! There's nothing for me to worry about!"
Limberg walks away in disgust.
"I don't believe it!" he says. "Grune is completely clueless as to how this game works. She's not playing the game at all. It would be completely unfair if she makes the Final Three over myself."
So Limberg next goes up to Fluttershy, but she will have none of it.
"I'm in a strong alliance with Anise, Konata and Grune," Fluttershy responds. "There's no breaking it up now."
"You mean, Kasumi's not that close to you guys?"
"Kasumi is with Anise, so she's with us."
Limberg completely ignores Konata, who is off on some rant about Haruhi Suzumiya. He finds a moment to draw Kasumi aside, and he talks with her.
"What do you want?" Kasumi asks. "I thought you and Cyrano cut me loose."
"We need you now, squinky," Limberg states.
"Of course you do," Kasumi responds. "It's too late now. You played your cards wrong. Now you and Cyrano will pay the consequences."
"So you think Anise will take you to the Final Three?"
"I don't know exactly how it's going to go down yet. Right now I'm taking it vote-by-vote. Thinking too far ahead has gotten me in trouble in the past."
Cyrano then walks over to the two of them.
"We need you, ah-CHOO," Cyrano tells Kasumi.
"Yeah, now you need me," Kasumi responds.
"But aren't you putting yourself in danger by trusting Anise so much?" Cyrano asks.
"Anise is the one calling the shots. If you want to get mad at anyone, get mad at her, don't get mad at me. I'm just following her alliance of five."
"Fluttershy, Grune and Konata. How close are they?" Cyrano wonders.
"I'm not sure. None of them are even playing the game, however. They're simply out here to have a good time."
"Ah! But there are three of them, as opposed to you and Anise," Limberg states. "What happens at the Final 5?"
Kasumi stops to think about it for a moment. "I'm sure Anise will think of something."
"Your entire game relies on Anise!" Limberg shouts. "You're just riding her coattails!"
"Look, if I were to make an alliance, it wouldn't be with the two who 'cut me loose,'" Kasumi replies. "I'd align with Peter and Angela over you two, after the way you treated me."
"Fine, whatever," Limberg responds. "All you're doing is stopping your own chances of winning."
"Kasumi is not playing this game for herself," Limberg says. "She's being completely controlled by Anise. If she was smart, she'd turn on Anise now. Even if she joined Peter and Angela over Cyrano and myself, that would make more sense than what she's doing right now."
"I know what I'm doing," Kasumi says. "I don't trust Limberg one bit. I'm ready to vote him out, and I'm going to approach Anise with that as soon as I can."
Day 26
The next morning, Kasumi talks with Anise about her idea of voting out Limberg.
"Awww…" Anise whines. "But I wanted to vote out Peter!"
"I know Peter's a challenge threat and all," Kasumi states. "But he's not trying to poison people against you like Limberg is. Limberg and Cyrano want me to turn against you."
"And are you going to?" Anise asks.
"No!" Kasumi exclaims.
"Then there's nothing to worry about," Anise states. "We vote out Peter, so he doesn't win every challenge the rest of the way. That's the only thing that could possibly mess up our Final Three."
"Who's in our Final Three?" Kasumi questions. "If it's you and me, there has to be one other."
"I don't know yet!" Anise exclaims. "I'll have to make up my mind sometime."
"Anise, don't you realize that Grune, Fluttershy and Konata – who have been together since the beginning – could team up and vote us out?"
"Oh, come on, you actually think they'll do that? Besides, I've got them so distracted from playing Survivor right now that they'll never think of that. None of them even have an inkling of how to play this game. They're just here for the fun!"
"But if you happen to be wrong, you're costing us the game."
"When have I been wrong all game?"
Anise begins to laugh, and Kasumi just shakes her head.
"I don't get it," Kasumi says. "Anise really thinks Grune, Fluttershy and Konata are that stupid that they won't ever play the game, even when it comes down to crunch time. They can't be that dumb!"
"Kasumi is so nervous, she needs to just relax and enjoy herself!" Anise says. "I'm having a good time while controlling this game at the same time. There's no reason to worry!"
Peter, in an act of desperation, goes to talk to Grune, thinking Grune is the most approachable of the five.
"I know you're in an alliance with Anise," Peter says, "but would you guys consider taking on me as part of your alliance?"
"Oh, why ask me?" Grune says. "Strategizing is not my thing. You remind me of Roy. He always wanted to strategize."
"I see," Peter replies.
"Roy always wanted to strategize, and that's why they went after him," Peter says. "Maybe if Angela and I just lay low, we can escape for a little while."
"I don't understand all this talk about strategy," Grune says. "Would I like to win this game? Of course I would! But I'm not about to betray anyone or backstab my friends. If I become friends with as many people as possible, then I have nothing to worry about."
Reward Challenge
"Come on in, guys!"
The nine remaining players waltz into the reward challenge area.
"You guys ready to get to today's reward challenge?"
"Yeah!"
"For this challenge, I'll do things backward. Wanna know what you're playing for?"
"Yeah!"
"You are playing for up to $10,000 in cash!"
Anise leaps into the air with her arms raised, then immediately rushes over to Jet and hugs him.
"You're so generous!" she shouts.
"Today's challenge is not so much a challenge but a risk. We have a giant Plinko board here, where you could win as much as $10,000 with a chip. However, if you want a chip to drop down the Plinko board, you must give up your shot at immunity tomorrow. It's a risk – you could end up with $0, $100, $500, $1,000 or $10,000, and you'd also be in danger of being voted out tomorrow night. So now, I give you a choice – step up and take a chip, or stay where you are."
Anise immediately steps up and grabs a chip. Konata skips over and also grabs a chip. Grune and Fluttershy look at each other, then walk over to take a chip. The other five stay in their spots.
"Okay, it'll be Anise, Konata, Grune and Fluttershy who will take their shots at the Plinko board! Anise, you're up first."
Anise climbs the stairs to the top of the Plinko board. She then drops the chip in the center.
"Here it comes, down the board, and it's going into… the $10,000 slot!"
"Yes!" Anise exclaims. She rushes down the stairs in excitement and gives Kasumi a big hug.
"Anise has won $10,000 bonus money! Konata, you go ahead next."
Konata climbs up the stairs, then drops her chip near the middle. However, hers ends up landing in the $0 slot.
"No bonus money for Konata! She wasted a chance at immunity for nothing!"
"You don't have to rub it in!" Konata complains.
"Next up, Grune!"
Grune climbs the stairs, getting to the top of the Plinko board. She looks down to try to see where she should drop her chip, but as she does, the chip slips out of her hand.
"Down the board it goes, into the $1,000 slot!"
"Okay, I'll take that!" Grune exclaims.
"Finally, it's Fluttershy's turn."
Fluttershy runs up the stairs, then drops her chip. It ends up bouncing toward the right side of the board, and it lands in the $500 slot.
"All right!" Fluttershy says.
"That's $500 for Fluttershy! Congratulations to Anise, Grune and Fluttershy on their winnings! Konata, I got nothing for you. You can all head back to camp, I'll see you tomorrow for the immunity challenge, where four of you will be watching from the bench."
The players trudge on back to camp.
"I got some extra money!" Grune says. "I'm not athletic anyway, so there was little chance of me winning immunity. And besides, I don't need it."
TJBambi Tribe
Anise is thrilled as she comes back to camp.
"$10,000!" she exclaims. "Add that to a million, and I'm going to be rich!"
Kasumi shakes her head.
"So overconfident is Anise, that she's willing to brag about winning in front of everyone," Kasumi says. "Are they really going to just let her win?"
At night, Peter talks with Angela about their chances in the game.
"You still mad over my vote for Roy?" Angela asks.
"No, I forgive easily," Peter replies. "But I'm frustrated. That alliance of five is impenetrable."
"So there's nothing we can do about it?"
"Basically."
"We're pretty much hopeless in our situation," Angela says. "And it's all my fault. I ruined our chances at making it to the end. I guess I have no one to blame but myself."
"I don't know how to get through that alliance of girls," Peter says. "I think I just have to keep on winning immunity."
Day 27
Limberg and Cyrano are still scrambling the next morning. They talk with Angela and Peter about their situation.
"We need to all team up together and vote out one of those girls, squinky," Limberg says.
"That's obvious," Peter replies. "But we're only four. We just can't make anything happen like that."
"Anise is calling all the shots, ah-CHOO," Cyrano states. "Perhaps if we cause enough commotion at Tribal Council, we can get someone to vote her off."
"You cause too much commotion, and you're just going to make yourself a target," Angela remarks.
"I guess there's nothing to do but go and win immunity," Peter states.
"I'm in a bad position because I'm expendable," Peter says. "Plus by winning all these challenges, I've put a bigger target on my back. I better win today."
Immunity Challenge
"Come on in, guys!"
The nine players enter the immunity challenge area.
"You guys ready to get to today's challenge?"
"Yes!"
"First things first, I will take it back. Sit!"
Peter flops to the ground, causing everyone to laugh. Jet walks over and snatches the Immunity Beads of Subjugation off his neck.
"Thank you. Once again, immunity is back up for grabs. For today's challenge, your right hand will be handcuffed to a bucket hanging over your head. If you let go for even a second, the bucket will turn over and splash colored water on you, and you're out of the challenge. Last person left wins immunity, guaranteed 1-in-8 shot at winning this game. Losers, Tribal Council, where someone will be voted out of this game and sent to the jury. Anise, Konata, Grune, Fluttershy – you all chose to disqualify yourselves from this challenge. You can take a spot on the bench. The rest of you, I'll give you a moment to strategize, and then we'll get started."
The players are chained to their buckets, while Anise and her girls alliance (save for Kasumi) take their spots on the bench.
"For immunity! This challenge is underway."
No one moves for about half an hour, although a few of them are struggling. Finally, Cyrano is the first to drop out. He moves his hand down, and gets splashed by the yellow water.
"Cyrano is out, and we are down to four!"
The others remain with their arms hanging there, trying to keep them in place. Kasumi starts really feeling the pain in her arm, but she holds on. About fifteen minutes later, Limberg drops his hand, and he gets drenched in orange water.
"Limberg's out! We're down to three!"
Angela looks over at Peter, who remains stoic. Kasumi simply stares ahead, trying to ward off the pain. About fifteen minutes later, another person drops out.
"Angela, dropping out, and we're down to two!"
Angela walks away, soaking wet from the red water that splashed all over her. She looks frustrated, but hopes for Peter to win. Peter and Kasumi continue holding on for another half hour.
"Who is going to win this crucial challenge?"
Peter and Kasumi remain with their arms hanging there, fighting off the pain in their arms, until finally one of them slips.
"Peter slips, and he's out! That means that Kasumi… wins immunity!"
"Yes!" Kasumi exclaims, dropping her arm and getting splashed. She rushes over and hugs Anise. Meanwhile, Peter shakes his head in disappointment.
"Congratulations, Kasumi, this is for you."
Jet puts the Immunity Beads of Subjugation around Kasumi's neck.
"You are safe tonight. As for the rest of you, after 27 days, someone's going home, you've got tonight to figure out who that's gonna be."
The players begin walking back to camp.
"Frustrating loss for me today," Peter says. "I know I should have won. Now I can only hope they don't choose to vote me out."
TJBambi Tribe
While Peter, Angela, Cyrano and Limberg appear helpless, Anise and Kasumi discuss who they want to vote off.
"It's an easy vote: Peter!" Anise exclaims. "He finally lost, so he's going home!"
"I understand your reasoning, but I'd rather vote out Limberg," Kasumi says. "He's scheming way too much for my liking."
"I'll talk with the girls, and see what they think about it."
"I don't trust Limberg one bit, and I'd be a lot happier if he goes home tonight," Kasumi says. "Hopefully Anise sees it the same way."
Tribal Council
The nine players march into the Tribal Council area, and set down their torches in their spots before taking their seats.
"We now bring in the members of our jury. Sindel, Blaze, and voted out last Tribal Council, Roy."
The three jury members march in, with Roy looking a bit annoyed. Following them are the three coaches, Raine, Samantha and Ben Tan.
"Last time we were here, some people were expecting a tie. That didn't happen. Why not, Peter?"
"Because Angela voted for Roy instead of Anise," Peter says.
Roy crosses his arms and stares at Angela angrily.
"So that prevented a tie, and the pulling of a purple rock," Jet states.
"But that also prevented our alliance from escaping," Peter replies. "Now we're going to be picked off one-by-one by Anise's alliance of five."
"Angela, do you regret your move at all?"
"Sure, I regret it, in some ways," Angela responds. "I'm glad I didn't have to pick a rock, but I regret putting us in this position."
"Anise, Peter claims that you are in control of this game now. Is that true?"
"I've been in control the whole time, Jet," Anise replies. "They're just coming to realize that now."
"Do you think that makes you a target?"
"Why? Do you want me to get voted out?" an angry Anise responds.
Jet laughs. "Anise, I just ask the questions."
Anise crosses her arms with a huff. "I've got Kasumi, Grune, Fluttershy and Konata all on my side. They aren't turning on me for any reason."
"Grune, would you have any reason to turn on Anise?"
"Oh, Jet, why would I do that?" Grune asks. "She's going to take me to the end with her. There's no reason to worry."
"But Anise can't take all four of you to the Final Three."
"We'll figure that out later," Fluttershy breaks in. "Right now we're just rolling with Anise."
"Okay then, Kasumi, what does your alliance's vote come down to?"
"It's a tough decision," Kasumi states. "Ultimately, it's down to Limberg or Peter."
"And why those two?"
"Peter is such a big challenge threat. Limberg, he can't be trusted."
"Limberg, Kasumi is calling you out."
"Yeah, well, I want Kasumi to know that we're willing to vote with her, if she just helps us blindside Anise tonight," Limberg states.
"Now how can you blindside someone if you come out and say it?"
"Anise isn't expecting to go home tonight," Cyrano responds. "But if Kasumi comes with us and turns on Anise, it's blindside city."
"Kasumi would never do that!" Anise exclaims.
"You'd better hope she doesn't!" Jet says. "Before we vote, Kasumi, you have the option of giving up immunity to anyone you please."
"I'll keep it, thank you very much," Kasumi replies.
"Very well then, you cannot vote for Kasumi. Everyone else is fair game, and it is… time to vote."
The new Tribal Council music plays as the players go to vote.
Angela goes to vote.
Anise goes to vote.
Cyrano goes to vote.
Fluttershy goes to vote.
Grune goes to vote.
Kasumi goes to vote.
Konata goes to vote.
Limberg goes to vote.
Peter goes to vote.
"I really hope someone turns on you," Peter says, showing his vote for Anise.
"I'll go tally the votes."
Jet gathers the votes, rearranges them, then returns to the players.
"Once the votes are read, the decision is final, and the person voted out will be asked to leave the Tribal Council area immediately. I'll read the votes."
He pulls out the first vote.
"Anise."
Anise looks on, not making any response.
"Anise."
Jet takes out the next vote.
"Anise."
Anise rolls her eyes.
"Anise. That's four votes Anise."
Everyone looks on nervously to find out what the next vote will be.
"Peter."
Peter looks down in disappointment.
"Peter."
Peter realizes the inevitable at this point.
"Peter."
Angela puts an arm around Peter's back to try to comfort him.
"Peter. We're tied, four votes Anise, four votes Peter, one vote left."
Everyone looks over at Kasumi, wondering if perhaps she betrayed Anise.
"Tenth player voted out of Survivor: Tropical Jungle, and the fourth member of our jury…"
Jet opens the vote slowly.
"Peter."
Peter gets up sadly, before giving Angela a hug. He then walks over and grabs his torch, then brings it over to Jet.
"Peter, the tribe has spoken."
Jet snuffs out Peter's torch.
"It is time for you to go."
Peter waves to Angela, then walks out.
"Anise is completely in control of this game. If someone else wants to win, they'd better step up now. Grab your torches, head back to camp, good night."
The players take their torches and walk on back to camp.
"I guess I should have won immunity," Peter says. "That was my only hope: to keep on winning immunity every single time. But I didn't, so now I'm going home. There wasn't much I could do about it."
Who voted for whom:
Angela – Anise
Anise – Peter
Cyrano – Anise
Fluttershy – Peter
Grune – Peter
Kasumi – Peter
Konata – Peter
Limberg – Anise
Peter – Anise
Scenes from our next episode:
The three outside Anise's alliance are reduced to begging:
"Come on, keep me around," Angela says. "I helped you guys out once already."
The loved ones come to visit:
"You are about to receive a little love."
And Grune suddenly realizes her situation:
"I might not just be coming out of here with new friends," Grune says. "I may be coming out of here as the winner!"
