Chapter 10: Indigo Plateau Excitement!

(Pallet Town. 10am. Monday. Prof. Oak's lab. Cody's P.O.V.)

I said, "Hey guys; girls. Uh, Leni, who's this guy?" As I walked in, I noticed a guy about our age with Leni. Another girl who looked like Leni walked in.

Eileen said, "Now it's fair. Ash, Gary, Alyssa, Cody, this is my sister, Liana and that's my brother, Evan." She paused and said, "Evan, Liana, these are my friends. Well, you know Ash and Gary, but this is Alyssa and that's Cody." Liana was wearing a green top with a skirt and Evan was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Both of them were staring at me.

I sat down and said, "They're not crutches, they're canes. On certain days I can walk without them."

Eileen said, "I was against bringing these two, but my grandfather persisted. I should've mentioned this: I'm the youngest out of my family by," but was cut off by Liana.

Liana said, "I was born at 4:17am and a minute later, Evan came along. Another minute later, at 4:19, Eileen was born."

Eileen sighed and said, "Rub it in all you want."

Professor Oak walked in and said, "Ah, Liana and Evan. Good to see you."

Liana said, "Hi, Professor Oak."

Evan said, "Hi."

I felt like an outcast, but as if reading my mind, Eileen quickly changed the subject. She said, "Professor Oak, it's almost on!" Gary's grandfather was kind enough to let us come over and watch a live broadcast of the Indigo League. Despite it being only 10:00, an Elite Four member was battling. As he was flipping through channels, Liana asked, "So, Squirt, why did you say Alyssa and Cody are special?"

Eileen's face reddened and she said, "Leaf's from Unova, like Mom. Coder's from Kalos, like Dad," referring to our nicknames.

Evan said, "Wait, who are Leaf and Coder?"

At this, Leni face-palmed, and I noticed something. I said, "Leni, if you don't mind my asking, I've got a question for you."

She nodded and said, "Fire away, Cody. Oh and Evan, Liana, those are their nicknames. Honestly, if you were listening, you'd know that."

Evan clicked his tongue and said, "We were. We just did it to annoy you." Before I could ask, the battle came on.

Professor Oak smiled and said, "Ah, Agatha's up."

An announcer said, "Welcome back, folks. On the challenger's side, we have Carter Williams from Viridian City!" At this, the triplets beamed. The announcer continued, "Carter's opponent is a tough one to beat. Carter himself is the tenth champion of the Indigo League. Very few manage to make it past his opponent. The Ghost mistress herself, also hailing from Viridian City, Agatha!

The ref said, "This'll be a 5-on-5 battle. The match is over when either side loses all of their Pokémon. Only the challenger can substitute and there is no time limit. Is that clear?"

Agatha had a Poké Ball at the ready and she proceeded to enlarge it. "Crystal clear," she said.

Carter pulled out a Great Ball and said, "Yeah, I've got it." He then enlarged it.

The ref said, "Begin the battle!"

Agatha said, "Gastly, I choose you!" tossing the ball.

Carter flicked the ball off of his hand and said, "Pidgeotto, it's your turn!" He seemed really calm when Agatha commanded an attack, but that's when the power went out.

"Darn it," Liana said, snapping her fingers.

"Oh man, that's not fair!" Evan said, folding his arms and frowning. Eileen said nothing, but I could tell that she was also bummed out about this. I looked at the others. However, their guess was as good as mine.

"Besides the fact that he's from your hometown like Agatha, what's the big deal?" Ash asked.

"Seriously, you act like he's a celebrity," Gary said sarcastically.

Liana, who looked like she was in love said, "He's so dreamy."

Evan uncrossed his arms and he began to grin. "Carter's an amazing battler. He's already defeated Prima and Bruno. Get this: he only has 12 Pokémon and he's only had to use two!" he said, eagerly.

Eileen also began to smile a little. "Carter should serve as an inspiration to all upcoming trainers. He's amazing with his health, though. He's got asthma that usually flares up. He was almost about to faint when they handed him the trophy because that's how heavy his breaths were. It looks like he's doing better today," she said.

"So, Leni, what I wanted to ask, well," I began. I stopped myself when I noticed her look at her watch that I didn't even know she was wearing. I also noticed Evan and Liana getting up to leave.

"I'll message you in the game tonight. We probably have to reset. We've gotta go. We're supposed to help Dad out at the restaurant," Eileen said.

Liana turned to her sister and said, "Just us, not you."

For the first time in what seemed like hours but was probably mere minutes, Professor Oak chose to say something. "That reminds me, Eileen. Your father called and said he wanted you to start to work at the facility," he said.

"Thanks for letting me know, Professor," Eileen replied.

"Well, it was good seeing you all again and it was nice to meet you, Alyssa and Cody," Liana said.

"Later. At least we got to hang out a little bit today," Evan said. He and Liana proceeded to leave. After they closed the door, Eileen got up.

"I'll see you sooner or later. I'm sorry for their behavior. Thank you for having us, Professor. Oh, and if my father calls, tell him I'm on my way," she said.

"Sure thing," Professor Oak said.

(A little while later. The diner. Reggie's P.O.V.)

Mom had called and asked me to take Paul to the facility. It's been a while since I was last there and I said we'd eat lunch at the diner first. I was driving Uncle Alex's Audi A6 convertible. Paul was riding shotgun. "Hey Paul, we're here," I said as I put it into park. We got out of the car and when we walked in, there was Evan; in a uniform, eyes glued to some menus he was holding.

"Welcome to the Viridian Family Diner. I'm Evan and I'll be your server this afternoon," he said. He looked up at us and I noticed Liana coming from another part of the restaurant.

"Dad, dad, look who's here!" she said, racing to join Evan. Our uncle came out of a hallway to see what was going on. He assigned them to do something else for a little bit and off they went. I noticed a camera earlier, but didn't think much of it. However, now I'm curious.

"Uncle Alex, what's with those two? What's up with the camera?" I asked.

He sighed, rifled a hand through his hair and said, "They've been engaging in wet towel fights. However, they've been a little tense lately." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a smirk form on Paul's face.

"Is Evan tense because he found his off button?" Paul asked.

"Paul," I said, but was cut off by glass breaking and a familiar shriek. Our uncle bolted to the source and Trent came out.

"Hey Reg. Hey Pauly," Trent said. Paul grunted at his nickname. Trent and I exchanged a knowing glance.

"It beats being called 'plumhead'," I said.

"What are you talking about?" he asked. I looked at Trent again and Paul sighed. "It was a rhetorical question," he said, deciding to stare out the window. I decided to change the subject.

"Trent, where's Eileen?" I asked.

"The facility. I hope she's okay," Trent said. That got Paul's attention.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"She's still getting pushed around by Evan and Liana. I tried to hide it from Mom a little while ago, but I wasn't too successful. Mom said that it wasn't too hard to see. Right now, she's with Mom. Now, I'd love to stay and chat, but as you can see, I've got an occasion to attend," Trent answered. I looked at him. He wasn't wearing a waiter's uniform, but at least he made sure to clean up.

"So by an 'occasion', you mean a date?" Paul asked. Trent nodded. I ignored Paul's comment.

"Nice. Who with?" I asked.

Trent grinned and said, "You remember the Saffron Gym Leader's daughter, Sabrina, right?"

I said, "Sounds like you scored big," but the TV cut me off.

"Unbelievable! Agatha's Zubat is unable to battle! Congratulations to Carter Williams on his newly-evolved Pidgeot and his victory over Agatha," the announcer said. There was a pause and it zoomed in on the announcer. "I've just been given the word that Carter is facing Lance tomorrow night. Once again, I'd like to congratulate Carter Williams of Viridian City on his teammate's evolution and his victory over Agatha!" he finished. I was going to resume where I left off, but I don't see Trent anywhere.

"He left," Paul said. Before I could say anything, he continued, "While you had your eyes glued to the TV, Trent looked at his watch and realized he had to leave or else he'd be late." Wait, Trent can usually talk over a TV pretty well. I look at Paul. He was able to read Trent's facial expressions.

'He's not supposed to be seeing her at all, according to Aunt Sam. So if neither side's parents approved, then that means they're going behind their parents' backs!' I thought. I looked at the TV screen to see what time it was. 10:30am and then, it hit me. Uncle Alex is here, Aunt Sam is at the facility and the Saffron Gym isn't a gym until noon; it's like an institution for psychics in training. 'Oh, he had this planned,' I thought.

(Half an hour later. The facility. Clair's P.O.V.)

I was unsure of being here in Viridian City, but Lance seemed pretty content. We entered the facility. I turned to Lance and said, "It looks like no one's here." Just then, a woman with dark brown hair and brown eyes showed up; I knew who she was.

She said, "Welcome to the facility. I'm Sam Matthews, one of this city's gym leaders." She stared at Lance for a few additional seconds and said, "You must be Lance. It's an honor to have you here."

Lance bowed, a tradition of ours. "Yes. I'm Lance. I feel a little bad that we haven't talked at the meetings before," he said.

Samantha chuckled at this and said, "Well, only 4 of my kids aren't on their journeys right now and my youngest three are triplets."

Lance nodded and said, "Well, I'm not sure how much TV you watch, but I have a championship battle on the line tomorrow and I was wondering if I could train with my Gyarados and my Dragonair. Clair, maybe you can train with your Dratini." I looked at the ball I was holding and felt Lance's hand on my shoulder.

"It just feels too early, Lance," I said.

Lance let Gyarados and Dragonair out and said, "I understand, Clair. Believe me. Don't you have your Kingdra with you?" he asked. I nodded and grabbed Kingdra's ball. I then noticed a little girl who looked just like her mother walked in.

She smiled and said, "I can't believe it! You're the Lance Grayson!" Lance smiled, used to the attention.

"Airr," Dragonair cooed. The girl's gaze shifted to Dragonair.

"I can't believe I'm this close to a Dragonair," she said.

"There you are," Sam's voice rang. She walked to us, keeping an eye on the little girl.

"I wasn't doing anything," the little girl said.

"I didn't say you were. I'm so sorry, you two. Lance, Clair, this is my baby, Eileen," she said, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Mom, I'm not a baby," Eileen said.

"The name sounds familiar. Wait a minute! You're the ace cadet I've been hearing about!" Lance said. I was shocked. She was what, 5? Her mother didn't seem too surprised.

"Champion said what?" Eileen asked.

"From the Viridian Police. I'm willing to say that you're familiar with the G-Men?" he said.

"Lance, what are you talking about?" I asked.

"Mom, what are the G-Men?" Eileen asked.

"The G-Men is a government agency. Our main branch used to be located in Kalos and the champions are in charge of running it. Kanto and Johto thankfully have a joint branch. So, are you in?" Lance asked.

"I can't even train a Pokémon, let alone have one," Eileen said, sounding dejected at the last part. Suddenly, there was a splash and we turned to the pool. A blue Pokémon that I never saw before came out. It seemed to have heard Eileen and tackled her to the ground.

"However, it doesn't mean we can't be friends. Come on, Greninja, that tickles!" she said, giggling.

"Greninja?" I asked.

"He's mine. He was a gift from my husband from the Kalos region, where he's originally from and if memory serves, where my father-in-law started the G-Men," Sam answered.

"Father-in-law?" Lance asked. Greninja had his fun with Eileen and she had gotten to her feet.

"Yeah. Neil Matthews was my grandpa. I remember now. He founded the G-Men as a way for regions to help each other in their time of need and some other things I can't remember," Eileen said. When we finished our training, Lance had pulled out one of his business cards.

"Here's my number, in case you want to join," Lance said. Eileen took the card, a look of confusion on her face.

"I'm not saying you'll lose, Lance, but what happens if Carter beats you tomorrow?" she asked. Lance looked at his Dragonite and then her.

"Fourteen is the minimum age that someone is put in charge. Thank you for letting us train here," Lance said.

(Eileen's P.O.V.)

We saw the two Blackthorn trainers off and I put the card in my pocket. Mom didn't have a problem, but I still wanted to think about it.

GOVERNMENT MEN

KANTO AND JOHTO HQ

LANCE GRAYSON, DIR.

Kanto line: 119-686-6160

Johto line: 582-175-0242

'I guess that's a good thing that I didn't have to work at the diner,' I thought to myself, putting the card in my pocket and lying down. I thought I'd get some strength training in. I sat up slowly.

"Don't hurt yourself," a familiar voice said. I turned and smiled.

"Greta, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"I called her," Mom said. She smiled and continued, "It's nice to meet you, Greta. Alex and Eileen have told me quite a few things about you."

"Good things, I hope?" Greta asked.

"Why would I say anything bad?" I said.

"Greta was concerned when your father didn't drop you off for training. I thought I'd call her and let her know," Mom replied.

"I thought I'd see how your offense techniques are coming. I guess we'll have to w," but she was cut off by her Pokégear ringing.

"This is Greta. No sir, I can't say I have. Hang on," she said, putting whoever she was on the phone with on hold.

"What's wrong?" Mom asked.

"Sabrina is MIA. Her father wants to know when you last saw Trent," Greta said.

"Actually, I haven't seen him in a while," Mom said, folding her arms. So that's why he had that stupid grin on his face. Payback time.

(Flashback. That morning. 8am.)

"There you have it, folks. Carter Williams from Viridian City and is now the tenth champion of the Indigo League and he'll be facing the Elite 4 tomorrow!"

"From Four Island in the Sevii Archipelago, let's give it up for Prima Grand!" Prima was Carter's first opponent of the Elite 4. She specialized in Ice-types. It would be a 5-on-5.

"Dewgong, let's go!" Prima's first choice.

"Starmie, it's your turn!" Carter's first choice. The battle was epic. He was able to knock out Dewgong, Slowbro and Lapras before Starmie fell to Jynx.

"Carter's Starmie is unable to battle. The match goes to Prima and Jynx!"

"Starmie, you were great. Return," Carter said. Prima was the green trainer; Carter, the red. One red bar faded on Carter's side.

"Let's see what he'll call out. I bet it's a Flareon," Evan had said. He soon ate his words.

"Pidgeotto, it's your turn!" Carter's second choice.

"Interesting. You do know that Pidgeotto isn't a good choice against Jynx, don't you?" Carter merely nodded. None of us knew how, but Pidgeotto defeated Jynx and Cloyster. Then again, Cloyster is half Water.

"Let's give a warm welcome to Bruno Morikawa from Cianwood City!" Bruno was Carter's next opponent. It was another 5-on-5 and like with Prima, Carter used Pidgeotto and Starmie.

"Vaporeon, Water Gun," Trent commanded, snapping me from my dream. I jolted upright and threw my pillow at him. Liana's bed was empty. Drat. She was up.

"Trent! Get out of my room!" I said.

(Flashback end. The above scenes in italics was the dream.)

"Trent said he had a special occasion in Saffron City. He didn't say who with," I said.

Mom gave me a look that I thought for sure meant I was in trouble.

"I think that she's with Trent. Okay. Bye," Greta said, hanging up. "Thanks for the info, Eileen. Maybe we can train later this week to see where your strength is," Greta said, going out. As soon as she left, I decided to drink some water and change. I went to see Samurott and Feraligatr at one of our two Olympic-sized pools. We had four pools. One pool was for larger Water-types like Samurott and Feraligatr. The second pool was for the smaller Pokémon. Professor Oak and even some breeders would send baby Water-types over to make sure they knew how to swim. The third pool was a wave pool so trainers and Pokémon alike could surf. The last pool was actually a pool for trainers to swim and train and it was our other Olympic-sized pool.

"Hey, Samurott. Hi Feraligatr," I said to two of the starters.

"Fer," Feraligatr said, surfacing slightly. I began to pet her. I looked at Samurott.

"Samurott?" I asked, approaching the Unova starter.

Samurott opened his mouth and aimed a Hydro Cannon at me, knocking me into the pool. When I surfaced, Samurott and Feraligatr were laughing.

"Samurott, I didn't need to be soaked. Trent did that this morning," I said, wading to the Unova starter. Samurott looked disappointed that someone had beat him to it.

"Having fun getting squirted, are we?" a familiar voice teased. Paul.

"Samurott decided to give me a shower," I said, getting out. I noticed a shape take its form in the water.

"Vay. Vaporeon," mom's Vaporeon had called. I nodded.

"Thanks Vaporeon. I have to check the pH meter at the other pool," I said to Paul, drying off slightly.

"Wanna race?" he asked, an amused smirk appearing on his face. Ordinarily, I'd agree to, but Mom was pretty strict about us racing.

"Maybe later," I said, walking to our other pool. I was heading to the pool where we trained the baby Water-types. There were actually some in there, too!

"Wow, they're so little," Paul said. I nodded and went to look at the meter. I couldn't read it. Next thing I knew, I could. Paul wasn't smirking. I looked up and saw Reggie.

"A little wet behind the ears?" he teased. I sighed and watched the baby Buizel looking on.

"Not funny, Reggie. I don't want you scaring this little guy," I said, pointing to the baby Buizel who smirked. I wonder who taught him that. Buizel got Reggie wet, just not as wet as Reggie got me.

"Reggie!" Mom was calling. Reggie sighed and went to her. I put the baby back down.

"I really wonder why Trent went on a date with Sabrina. He knows he's not supposed to see her," I said.

"Guess he must love her. He doesn't have to be so troublesome," Paul huffed. I looked at him. Troublesome?

"When did you learn that one?" I asked.

"Um, I've known about it since we were 3. Jacob said that you, Evan and Liana can be troublesome. I don't know what he meant, but I don't think it's true. Well, you aren't, anyway," he said, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Feelin' the love, Paul. Anyway, I'm going to go change and we can get down to battling," I said, going off to the locker room we had.

(Paul's P.O.V.)

Battling? Us?

"Hi, Paul," a calm voice said, snapping me from my train of thought.

"Hi, Aunt Sam," I said.

"What's wrong? Aren't you excited to battle?" she asked. Where was Reggie?

"Sorta. Hey, Aunt Sam, where's Reggie?" I finally managed to say.

"Picking up Liana and Evan from the diner. So, what do you think of Valencia Island?" she asked. The diner was 10 miles from here.

"It's alright. Aunt Sam, why do Evan and Liana push Eileen around so much?" I asked. She looked at me. I then noticed her face was red. "Did I say something wrong?" I asked.

"Your father called. He wants to know why he doesn't have any custody," she answered.

"Hey, I'm dressed!" Eileen called.

"Aunt Sam, I'm sorry," I said.

"It's alright, Paul," she said, kissing my forehead.

"Gross," I said, trying to wipe it off.

"I'm going to get the others. Don't kill each other," she said, going out to the little storage room.

"We won't!" Eileen hollered. I sighed.

"So, Dad doesn't have any custody?" I asked.

"No, he doesn't. You know how much Aunt Felina loves you, right?" she asked.

"Yeah, she seems to have these bone-crushing hugs for Reggie whenever he's been out for a while," I answered. After losing a tag battle, I noticed Eileen had intently been staring at Reggie.

"Reggie, I challenge you to a battle!" Eileen said. Reggie smirked and they ended up in a draw. We'd be staying over.

(Third person P.O.V.)

"Okay, so what are the rules?" Reggie asked his cousin. Trent was getting reprimanded for seeing Sabrina by his father.

"How about a three on three?" Eileen asked.

"Why not a full battle?" Paul chipped in.

"I don't know if I'll always have 6 on me. Besides, a rematch wouldn't be too fun if it wasn't the same as the original," Eileen answered, coolly.

"So then it'll be a three on three and substitutions freely on either side. I like the idea," Reggie said.

"Deal," Eileen said, shaking his hand. Eileen had even gotten Paul to agree to go on a journey with her.

After everyone had gone to bed, it was 9:15. Unable to sleep, our heroine decided to make a call. She quietly went downstairs and into the kitchen.

"Kanto G-Men HQ, how may I direct your call?" a woman said.

"I'd like to speak to Lance. It's important," she said.

"Wait one moment," the woman said. Eileen looked around.

"Hey, Lance. About that offer," Eileen began.

Done at last! I can't believe I ended it in a cliffhanger! Okay, the only error I really feel like pointing out right now is that in the original, I said that Professor Oak walked in twice. He only walked in once and I shouldn't have made that mistake. At the end, you might recall I mentioned a game. No one had ever guessed it in the reviews, so I thought I'd tell you. The game Eileen and Cody were parodying was "Champions of Norrath"; a fun game, I might add. The Gulpin they were battling represented the first "level", per se. In the first level, you have to battle goblins and then face the goblin boss. Then you go to ogres and the ogre boss. Then spiders and the spider queen. Then fire ants and the fire ant queen. Then I think it's vampires and you have several mini bosses along the way in the form of grim reaper-like creatures that now looking back on it, vaguely resemble a Dusknoir. Anyway, the game was pretty fun. My brother and I used to play it a lot and we even had its sequel. The hardest boss in the original had to be the ant queen. Did you know that an ant queen actually has wings? Their bites hurt more than the regular ones. Oh yeah, remember how in the original (if you do, congrats, if you don't, that's okay) version, Carter and the triplets had some sort of variant of "I choose you" as their catchphrase? About that. I really like Ash's catchphrase (can you blame me?), but I'm using OCs and I kind of like giving them their own thing. You learned that Carter's is "Starmie (or whatever Pokémon he's using), it's your turn!" In chapter 19, you'll learn Eileen's. Evan's and Liana's will come later, I promise. I just don't know when.

Anyway, I ended it with a cliffhanger because if you read chapter 6, it's obvious that Eileen accepted Lance's offer to join the G-Men. Before I say anything else, I want to point out that the champions of each region's branch being leaders was not my idea. That idea goes to I am Lu. You might know Lu as the author of "The Ash Connection" and its sequel "The Ash Connection II: the Rising." That's where the idea came from, so credit goes to Lu on that one.

Now in chapters 17 and 19, Eileen mentions being a G-Man. Well, this chapter kind of goes into how she became one. As for Jacob, well, I might do a one-shot on that and as of this point in the story, Jacob doesn't know that his sister has joined. Also, I want you all to know that this chapter takes place 6 days before the first and 4-5 days before the seventh. Yeah, I know I said that this takes place after, but I thought I'd change it. Four chapters altogether take place before chapter one. I know it's a little complex, but that's how I write. Don't like? Don't read. Also, the disclaimer was originally in French and if I offended any French readers, I'm deeply sorry. This chapter was originally posted on the 20th anniversary of my grandfather's death and was supposed to be up on Independence Day.

Question of the chapter: You land in the Pokémon world. Which league conference would you want to see first and why? The Indigo League, because it's the first league Ash ever competed in? The Orange League, because it's the first (and so far only) league Ash has ever won? The Johto League, because it's where we saw Ash defeat Gary and Charizard go up against Blaziken? The Sinnoh League, because it's where we saw a trainer with a Darkrai and a Latios? Where Ash actually defeated Darkrai and drew with Latios? The Unova League, because it introduced the first female professor of the games? The Kalos League, because it has yet to air? Maybe some of you who have played X, Y or both know it's awesome and are already thinking up names for it. I'd pretty much say the Indigo League for me, because like I said, it's where Ash first competed. Leave your answer in the review box. Oh, and before I forget, where Reggie had said that Trent looked good, I WAS NOT in any way, shape or form implying that Reggie is gay. Reggie was just pointing out that Trent actually looked decent and not like an idiot. It was Trent's first date, but he had been to a few formal occasions before and didn't look formal. At all. Please keep in mind that Reggie and Trent are cousins. If it seemed like I was trying to make Reggie gay and it offended you, I'm sorry, but that's just the only way that that scene would've worked. If a review says that Reggie is gay, it WILL BE DELETED.

Okay, that's all from me. Read, review, fave, follow, vote and ask!

Bye!
