I slump into a chair in the library with a huff, throwing my books onto my desk as I tune out Mr. Harris and turn to Allison. "Are you okay?" I whisper. She swallows nervously and nods but before she can answer Mr Harris barks, "Miss Ryan, be quiet!" I roll my eyes, cross my arms and listen to him lecture us about fighting on school property, even though six of us weren't physically fighting. Jackson complains about his restraining order, forcing Scott and Stiles to move over to the desk further away – leaving Allison and I stuck with Matt and Isaac.
"Don't even think about moving!" says Mr. Harris before strutting over to the desk. I lean near Allison and say; "Soo, care to enlighten us on what the hell just happened?" She shakes her head and purposely looks at Matt. "Not now." I groan and swivel my chair around to grab a book from a nearby shelf. I pull out the nearest which is called "Cry Wolf" which makes me snort with laughter.
When I settle down I see Isaac staring at me strangely. "What?" I ask innocently. He smiles and shakes his head. Looking over at Scott and Stiles, I can see their heads close together as the whisper heatedly. At least they call talk. Considering our conversation limitations I start to read the book. Totally unrealistic and irrelevant I think to myself. But then again, not everybody knows the truth about werewolves.
After about 20 minutes some conversation heats up. Matt, who had been looking at his tablet – simply says the word, "Kanima." Allison and I glance at him and then at each other and she gives me a "what the hell?" look. Suddenly Jackson jumps up, rubbing at his forehead. "Ahhh, I need to go to the bathroom." His face contorts with pain as he walks out of the room.
"Nobody leaves their seats." Says Mr Harris rushing after him. Scott and Stiles jump up and sit next to Erica the moment he leaves the classroom. Before any real talking can get on- an announcement fills the school. "Scott McCall please report to the Principals office." Allison looks at him worriedly as he grabs his stuff and reluctantly leaves too. Once Scott is out of the room, Stiles slides over to Erica and they look at her laptop, searching up stuff about Jackson's parent's car accident. I only recently found out that he was adopted when Stiles sent his parents a message saying "I love you," when Jackson hasn't told them he loves them ever since he found out.
I glare at that Matt dude – he totally limited Kanima conversation, especially after that recent random comment. I actually found him quite creepy, he stared at Allison a lot. I really didn't think it was a good idea for Jackson to be rushing out either, at least not with his…uh…bodily disorder. "So, when's the next big lacrosse game?" I ask Isaac offhandedly, to try and fill in the silence. I wanted to join Erica and Stiles but it looked suspicious enough with two of them there. He smiles meekly and says; "To be honest, I haven't thought about lacrosse that much, so I'm not even sure when the next game is on, I've missed the last two training sessions." Matt, who had been fiddling with a camera lens looks up and automatically says, "This Friday." I raise an eyebrow at Isaac who just shrugs and says, "I better go to tomorrow's training session then." It's silent for a while once more. "Hey, why isn't there a girl lacrosse team?" I ask. "That's totally sexist only having a boys' team. I mean, I'm no feminist but I reckon that a lot of the girls could give you guys a run for your money."
Ijust an around the block thing that we did when I first, um, starting running." I say lamely. She nods, but I don't think she believes me. Then Jackson walks in, looking very sweaty and sketchy, followed by Mr. Harris. He throws his bag down next to the desk and sits down in his seat again. Scott still hasn't returned which is unsettling and things get even weirder when Mr. Harris packs his stuff up. I look at him, deadpan.
"So that's it, we can go now?" He chuckles without actual humour to himself. "Oh no, no Miss Green. I'm leaving. You are all staying here." And with that he struts out of the classroom. I figure we will have to wait until he actually leaves school property before we can sneak out, but I'm still perplexed when Jackson sulks off around the corner to some bookshelves. Then, Scott walks in, looking slightly disturbed – his hands seemed to flit around his genital region for a while and a wanted to laugh at how absurd he looked. He walks over to a corner where Stiles, Allison and I are standing. "We have to talk to Jackson." He mumbles and before Allison tries to complain, he runs away abruptly in search of him.
I follow Scott, but I walk into the same aisle that Isaac is in – not Scott or Jackson. Then I hear a scuttle overhead and a huge lizard body suddenly dives over the bookshelves, knocking out the lights and several books in the progress. Before I can react, Isaac wraps a strong arm around me and I'm surprised by the zing of electricity that passes through us. He notices to and he looks at me grimly. Then a half- changed Jackson jumps in front of, blocking off the exit and starts menacingly towards us. Isaac throws his body in front of mine and I scream "Isaac, NO!" But its too late, because Jackson paralyses him before he can transform. I was quicker though. I feel my features bubble and the surge of power running through my veins as I change into a werewolf. I snarl at the Jackson-Kanima thing as it slashes at me with its claws, forcing me to step back, although the fabric of my shirt shreds. I drag Isaac's body with me, shoving him in the corner – no easy feat I might add, and step in front of him - his eyes are darting uncomfortably.
Then, the Kanima lets out a howl and scuttles away – to my complete bewilderment, jumping over the bookshelf into the next aisle. I glance back wistfully after Isaac before chasing after it. There, I see Erica crumple to the ground next to a still Matt – the Kanima obviously paralysed them too. I run around to the next aisle where I see, Allison, Stiles and Scott crouched down together. I run over to them and help Allison and Stiles off the ground. Before I reach them - I feel myself get lurched off the ground and thrown into a bookcase. I gasp as the sharp spines dig into my back and my vision blurs. I look up and see the Kanima (who was half – transformed back to Jackson) glare menacingly at Scott. He then grabs Scott and throws him to the opposite wall, where he crashes with a massive impact. Stiles runs over and drags me up, and Scott picks himself up and comes over to us. We watch Jackson write something on the blackboard before smashing out a window and leave the building. Once he's gone we run over to the board where it says – "Stay out of my way or I'll kill all of you." Melodramatic much. "We need to help the others. "Says Scott and I reply with; "Yeah, I'll go grab Isaac – he got hit too."
I sprint around to the corner, and find Isaac still there. I pull his stiff body towards me and sit him on my lap. As I check his pulse, he grimaces (well, as much as you can grimace when your paralysed) and mutters, barely audibly "You should have left me and run." I smile weakly and say, "Nah, if I left, you would have got your ass kicked even worse." He kind of chokes with laughter and I half lift – half drag him to where the others were. When I get there, Erica seems to be convulsing on the ground and Stiles looks up in legitimate shock and worry. All he says is "I think she's having a seizure." That's all it took. Alliosn stayed behind with Matt, and Scott, Stiles and I take Erica and Isaac to Derek. One arrival, Isaac is left against the wall – the paralysing effects are already wearing off, while Erica is placed in front of Derek, who starts to squeeze her arms. As the blood come gushing out and Erica lets out a blood-curdling scream I grimace and flinch back. I watch in Horror as Derek continues mutilating her – saying something about this triggering the healing powers.
But I was too shocked to listen. Erica then passes out, just as Isaac wakes up. Derek takes Scott off for a talk of sorts and Stile sits with an unconscious Erica. So I guess it was up to me to help him up. I grab him under the arms and left him up. He rests against the door and closes his eyes. "Thanks Alaska." I look at him, puzzled. "What for?" He smiles ruefully. "For dragging your kicked ass out of that damned library." I laugh. "It's alright; you'd do the same for me." He opens his eyes and I'm overwhelmed by the stormy greyness, he's' angry and I'm not sure why. "You're right; I would do the same for you, and I'm glad it was me that got attacked not you, but I just hate the fact that I couldn't protect you." I smirk and flick out my claw and hold them out to his face. "I told you – I can take care of myself." It's his turn to laugh and he grabs my raised hand and smiles warmly at me. I smile back and think to myself - Things with Isaac could be different after all.
