"What are you doing?" Jack said, as he felt Adelaide's lips brush against his. He pushed her away; he hadn't quite meant to do it so harshly.
"Don't be like that Jackie," Adelaide pouted, trying to pull him towards her.
"I can't do this."
"Rose doesn't love you anymore, she went back to Cal remember!"
"I don't believe that she would do that, my Rose wouldn't do that."
"Well I guess you don't know some people very well. Come on Jack, you've got to move on, Rose isn't coming back."
"I feel dead without her, I wish I had died along with the Titanic!"
"Don't say that Jack, don't you ever say that, you've got me now and I'm all you need." Jack didn't want Adelaide, he wanted his darling Rose. Jack couldn't bear it and burst in big choking tears.
"I just miss her so much."
"Shh shh it's ok," Adelaide soothed, hugging Jack, but inside she was grinning like the chesire cat that had got the cream. She'd make him get over Rose; he'd be over her in no time. Jack had awoken just as Rose had left. He asked her who was at the door and Adelaide had lied that it was tramp offering to clean windows for ten cents.
"You've got to move on ok? This is your home now," Adelaide said.
"I can't go back to that apartment; it just reminds me of Rose." Adelaide wanted to scream every time that he mentioned Rose's name.
"Look the best way for you to get over her is not to mention her." It was easier said than done, deep down somewhere inside Jack knew that Rose hadn't left him and gone back to Cal and her mother. Suddenly Jack's mind became clear and he felt his senses awaken.
"I'm going to find her!"
"No Jack, she doesn't want you remember. Just stay here with me please; I don't want to be alone in case Jimmy comes back. You do believe me don't you?" Adelaide forced the salty bitter tears from her cold harsh murky blue eyes. She knew she had to put on a performance.
"Please Jack."
"Fine ok," Jack agreed reluctantly.
A few hours later there was a knock at the door.
"Ignore it, it's probably Jimmy," Adelaide said. The knocking on the door was frantic.
"Jack are ya in there?" a familiar booming voice called.
"Molly!" Jack cried, pushing Adelaide out of the way and rushing to the door.
"Boy am I glad to see you Molly!" Jack said triumphantly, hugging Molly as if she were his mother. He hoped that she had news about Rose. Adelaide felt her heart sink; she knew she was in trouble. What was the old fat cow doing here?
"Did you get the message?" Molly said.
"What message?" Jack was baffled.
"Didn't you give him my message miss?" Molly said accusingly, giving a harsh look to Adelaide. Adelaide was lost for words for the first time.
"What news?" Jack demanded. "Is it about Rose?"
"Yes, I'll explain everything later, but you've gotta come quick Jack. Rose is in hospital."
"What happened?" Jack shouted. He was relieved to hear about Rose but scared shitless at the same time that she was in hospital. He prayed to god it wasn't anything serious.
"Is she going to die?" Jack said frantically.
"I don't know Jack, but you better come quick," Molly ordered.
"Please tell me she's not going to die," Jack sobbed, tears sprung from his eyes.
"Look sonny there's no point fretting, just come with me." Jack hastily slung his jacket on and pulled his boots on.
"What about me, aren't you going to stay here with me? I don't want to be alone," Adelaide cried, putting on her innocent little girl act. Suddenly Jack felt a huge surge of contempt towards her. He could see more and more clearly what a manipulative little bitch she was.
"What was the message?" Jack asked Adelaide coldly.
"Jack, I didn't get any message," Adelaide lied.
"Don't play that card with me missy, I plain as day gave you the message as plain as day," Molly retorted.
"Maybe I misunderstood it," Adelaide said blinking her blue eyes like a puppy dog.
"Bullshit!" Molly rarely swore but she was so furious.
"What did Molly tell you?" Jack snapped angrily.
"Don't shout at me Jack," Adelaide cried.
"I went to your apartment the other day to tell you I have news about Rose, only you weren't there so I gave young Adelaide here the message. Rose didn't leave you Jack; Cal found her and kidnapped her. She managed to get a message to me and I had to come right away to see you, but I couldn't find ya. I told Adelaide to tell you to meet me right away, but you never came," Molly explained.
"Is this true?" Jack said facing Adelaide. Suddenly he became so furious that he wanted to hit that conniving little bitch. Jack knew that it was wrong to hit a woman and he never would, but if he were allowed to hit one woman it would be Adelaide. "IS THIS TRUE?" Jack bellowed like a ferocious lion.
"Don't scare me Jack," Adelaide said all innocently.
"I should have known all along; you're nothing but an evil and manipulative little bitch. Why would you do this? Why?"
"Because I was doing it for your own good."
Jack laughed. "For my own good? Horseshit! It was for your own good! It's because you've got some sordid little crush on me. I should have known, I couldn't think straight after what happened and you took advantage of me. Jimmy didn't hit you did he?"
"I can't believe that you don't believe me," Adelaide wept.
"I knew that Jimmy would never hit you and I knew that Rose still loves me. I just believed you because I didn't know what to think. You're sick, you need help. I don't ever want to see you again!" Jack raged.
"Jack you don't mean that," Adelaide cried.
"I goddamn mean it and I'm going to my Rose, to the woman I love. You're twisted and you're evil, you can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned!"
"Jack no!"
"Come on Molly, I want to see Rose."
"Jack don't leave me!" Adelaide wailed hysterically falling to the floor.
"You brought this all on yourself missy," Molly said shaking her head.
"Take me to Rose," Jack said. His heart was beating rapidly; he had to get to Rose. He prayed to God that she was going to be OK. Part of him felt a huge relief that she hasn't really left him and that she still loved him, but part of him was sick to his stomach to think that her and the baby were in any harm. Jack was shaking; he prayed to God that Rose was alright.
"What's wrong with her Molly; tell me what's going on."
"Let's get to the hospital first and I'll tell you."
"Please Molly," Jack begged. Not knowing what was wrong with Rose was killing me. "She's not dead is she?"
"No Jack, just come with me." Molly hailed a cab and asked the driver to go quickly as he could. The taxi sped off into the dark bleak angst filled night.
