CONVERSION

An: Also difficult to write. I hope you understand the bit about her having to control her telekinesis ability's before her flash's. Who loves Rodney the mouse?

They stepped through the gate and Carson called for a gurney. A nurse was helping John onto the Gurney.

"This really isn't necessary, Doc" John said.

"Yes, it is. You've got a serious laceration on your arm and you've lost a good deal of blood." Sara was worried. Elizabeth came down in concern.

"What happened?"
"The Wraith girl tried to feed off his arm." Sara said with a bit of panic in her voice.

"I'll be fine princess." he gave her a smile.

"Ok let's get him to the infirmary." Sara tried to follow but Elizabeth stopped her. Sara was about to protest.

"Let Carson do his job Sara." She wanted to follow so much . Elizabeth took her up to her office.

"Rodney report." she said as they sat in the office. Sara rested her arms on the desk then out her head on her arms.

"The female Wraith took Carson's retrovirus. It had the reversed effect. It made her more Wraith. She killed the other Wraith then tried to attack us. She tried to suck the life out of Sheppard, but Ronon shot her."

Sara fidgeted wanting to go and see John. Elizabeth let out a sigh. She had no chance of keeping Sara in her office.

"Ok." she said to Sara. Who was off in a flash missing the next part of what Elizabeth was going to stay.

"Wait. I was going…" She just shrugged and followed Sara.

Sara ran down to the infirmary. She got there out of breath. Carson was taking a blood sample from John. Sara turned away and admired the wall. She hated needles they made her feel ill.

"Have you finished yet?" She asked about the needle.

"Aye." Carson gave a slight laugh. "You can come in lass."

Sara walked over to the bed John was sitting on. John stroked her hair.

"Told you I'd be fine." Carson gave him a look.

"Give me half a day to run your blood work and analyse it with the data we already have. We'll figure it out."

"And until then?" John enquired

"Just go about your day." John smiled and picked up Sara. She giggled and tried to get down.

"Your not getting away." He carried her down the hallway.

"Doesn't your arm hurt?" she asked.

"Uh no. It's kinda healed." Sara frowned at him. He just gave a 'I dunno' kind of look.

He walked into Sara's room and put her on her bed. Sara sat up and grabbed his arm. It was completely healed.

"Weird!"

"This is coming from a 1 year old, with the appearance of a 12 year old, who has the ability to make objects float and see into my past."

She shrugged and yawned.

"You have a nap. It's been a long day."

"'K."

"I'm going to see Ronon. I really feel like a run." she thought nothing of this. She got changed into Pyjamas and snuggled under the warm blankets. She soon feel asleep, she didn't wake for 7 hours.

"Sara. Wake up sweetheart." Sara rubbed her eyes and yawned. She hated being woken up. Seeing Elizabeth her heart began to race.

"Where's John?" She asked.

"He's in the infirmary. Carson wants to see you." Sara nodded. Elizabeth stood outside the door allowing Sara to get changed. Once she was changed she walked out of her room. They walked down the hallway. Sara knew something was up, Elizabeth was being very quiet. She could feel Elizabeth was upset.

"What's wrong?" Sara said walking into the infirmary. Carson was besides John's bed, John was unconscious. Carson walked over to the concerned girl.

"Calm down sweet heart. John has been infected with the retrovirus from Ellia."

"What?" She tried to run over and see John but Carson held her. He knelt down to look at her. He held her shoulders.

"Look at me sweet heart. We're doing everything to fix the problem."

Carson looked up at Elizabeth.

"The retrovirus isn't breaking down in his system like we hoped. He came back in about half an hour ago. it's beginning to alter his DNA."

He looked back at Sara. He had considered not telling her. But she had to know.

"If this is allowed to continue, he'll evolve into a creature similar to what Ellia became."

Sara cringed and Carson held her tightly.

"We're doing EVERYTHING. we can. I'm sure it won't come to that."

"Can I see him. Please Carson." her eyes begged. He nodded and took her over to John's bed.

Sara sat by his bed. John body was so still. Carson walked back over to Elizabeth. He obviously didn't want her to hear, what he had to say next. But she could. They were close enough for Sara to understand what they were saying.

"How long do we have?" Elizabeth asked.

"I'm not sure exactly."

"Ballpark! Months, weeks?"

"Days. We have days." Sara gripped John's hand. She held back tears.

"OK, what's the plan?" Elizabeth asked Carson.

"I've injected him with a viral inhibitor. It should slow down the retrovirus as far as his cognitive abilities are concerned, but I'm afraid that's it so far. We're exploring various treatments that may or may not be effective, so …"

"No, Carson, we don't have any time to explore. C'mon, there's gotta be something in the Ancient database that can help you find a treatment!"

Sara began to think. She could use her memory, maybe she could help him, something in her mind might help. She got up and went over to Carson and Elizabeth.

"I want to go see Rodney." They were both confused by this request.

"I'll take her." Elizabeth said.

Sara shook her head. She could see Elizabeth wanted to see John. She'd notice the concern. She needed to be reassured he was ok at this time.

"I can go myself." This was a development. She usually had someone with her when she moved from room to room.

Sara ran out of the infirmary and to Rodney's 'lab. He was sitting at his desk staring into space.

"Rodney."

"Huh! What! Oh it's you."

"I need your help Rodney. John's in the infirmary and… They don't know how to treat him. Maybe there's something up here." she said pointing to her head.

"That could help. Maybe I can access those memories. Surely the Ancients have something they could use."

"You've never been able to access those memories though. The last time you tried you ended up floating my laptop half way across my room." Sara just looked at him.

He let out a sigh.

"First you need to be able to control your ability to move things. I've looked at my notes, Carson believe one part of your brain controls your abilities. If controlled you can access them individually. If not it's random. Controlling your telekinetic ability will allow you to separate it from the part which allows you to see your parents past."

"Why can't I just learn to control my ability to see the past?"

Rodney shook his head. He knew her frustration.

"You can't do it that way. The fact you ended up using you telekinetic abilities instead if your flash's shows that you telekinetic is.. So to say more accessible. Once you learn that you have the basics to control your flash's."

Sara nodded. Rodney got up and picked up a rubber. He placed it on the table.

"Right concentrate on the rubber. Understand every part of it. Think of what it's made. Right down to the smallest particle. Imagine everything about it. Imagine lifting those particles. Manipulating them. Imagine moving it off the desk."

Sara closed her eyes and thought hard. She squinted in concentration. She could see the particles. She could see the electrons, the neutrons, the protons, she could see everything it was made up of.

"That's it. Go on. Move them."

She let out a sigh and rubbed her head.

"I'll try again." She concentrated again, this time the rubber rose no more then a few millimetres off the table before falling. Sara rubbed her head. She had a headache, but it wasn't going to stop her.

She tried for 3 hours trying to get it to rise. Rodney had suggested trying different things. He even tried making her upset. Setting off emotions in her body, like when she had flung the tray in the infirmary after bates had come in. The furthest she'd made it rise was a centre meter.

"Let's take a break." Rodney said. Sara shook her head.

"I've got to keep trying."

"Look. It may take weeks, months to understand it."

"He doesn't have weeks. I need to do this. I have to help. It may be his only chance."

"I'm going to get some coffee."

Sara looked at the rubber again. She concentrated, she saw John lying there in the bed. She saw the Wraith, her mum, what the wraith had done. She saw the rubber rising it floated high off the table. She made it stay stationary.

"Do you want anything?" Rodney said coming back in the room, seeing the rubber.

"You did it." then the rubber feel and Sara collapsed off her seat. She saw the blackness.

Sara woke up an hour later. She rubbed her eyes and blinked at the bright light. A hand rested on her shoulder and she blinked, everything was blurry.

"You gave us quite a fright there lass." Carson said. Sara just blinked a few more times until she could see him clearly. "Your protein levels got to low. It made you pass out. You must have been working far to long if your levels got this low."

"I.."

"Rodney told me what you were trying to do." he sighed. "You have to leave these things to us. You don't understand your abilities very well. You worked yourself far to hard. You knew when you should have stopped and kept going.."

Sara sat up to see Rodney sitting in a chair on the other side of the room.

"He's been worried about you. Your collapsing really scared him."

Sara got up and plodded over to Rodney.

"I sorry. It was my fault. I shouldn't have pushed you."

Sara shook her head.

"I was pushing myself, it's just i have to help John."

She gave him a quick hug.

"You won't be doing any more of that for the next few days, young lady. Leave it to us."

"But.."

"Listen to me Sara. Your protein levels dropped far to low. There still pretty low. It could harm you if you let it drop so low again. ok."

Sara gave a small nod. She wanted to help. She went back over to her bad and sat down. Elizabeth came in.

"How are you feeling?
"Fine." she said wanting to get out of this place.

"So have we got any further with John."

"The Ancient database has quite a lot of information about the iratus bug. We know what planet it's on, we know that it likes cool damp dark places to lay its eggs. "
"Wait. You mean you want to go get one of these things. ! The last time we ran into even one of these things, we almost lost Sheppard. How do you expect to just walk right in to one of their nests?"
"Hang on. I don't understand why do you want to go get one of these things?" Sara inquired. She'd obviously missed something in the last hour.

"We think we can use the RNA to fix John." Carson made it easy for Sara to understand. He didn't want her to over work herself. Her body was weak at the moment.

"I want to go." She said jumping out of bed.

"I want to keep an eye on you Sara. Your too weak to be running after those things. There dangerous." Carson was never going to let her go.

"I'm going."

"I think not." Carson saw her trying to move and put a firm hand on her shoulder.

"Now stay there lassie or I'll have you sedated."

Sara folded her arms and frowned. She was not happy about the situation.

"Ok Rodney, take Ronon, Teyla and Major Lorne's team."

Sara huffed in a 'this is so unfair' kind of way.

They left the room and Sara sat back in the bed. She noticed a cup on the side of the table and began to concentrate. It lifted slightly and Sara smiled in satisfaction. She tried it time and time again. Each time getting a little higher. She rubbed her head. The headache was back, but she didn't care. She had to do this for John. The whole thing about the iratus bug was just a theory. She had the memories she could help. After an hour she could lift the cup off the table, place it on the floor and bring it back to the table. Carson came in to check on her.

"Carson look." she said lifting the cup. She moved it to touch the floor and then landed it neatly back on the table.

"Sara what did I tell you." Carson was slightly annoyed. She hadn't listen.

"I don't know the effect this could have on your body. You said you wouldn't work on it anymore. You defied me." Sara got angry. She was trying to help, this is the gratitude she got.

"I'm just trying to help. I can do what I want. Leave me alone." she said running out the room.

"Sara, Sara I didn't mean it that way." he sighed she was gone. He rubbed his face. Then headed out of the infirmary to find Sara.

"Elizabeth this is Carson. I can't find Sara she ran off in a huff." Carson said over the radio.

"I'll get a team to find her." Elizabeth replied. " Have you checked her room."

"Oh aye, and John's, and Rodney's lab and the mess hall. She knows there the first places we'd check"

Carson then heard a small whimper. It was coming from one of the storage rooms.

The doors opened and Carson went in. Sara was sat on the floor.

"I'm sorry lass. I was just worried. I don't want you to be harmed."

"I want to help him Carson. And I can't. there's something in me that can help and I can't reach it."
"I know lass. Shh." he sat down next to her. He hugged her small body.
"You have to understand, it may take time for you to use your abilities. You may never have full use of them. Your only half ancient."

Sara sobbed.

"But I can help him."

"No you can't. You have to leave it to the doctors. We don't want you getting ill as well."

Sara looked up at Carson.

"Are you angry with me?"

"No, I was just worried. Let's go back, hey."

Sara nodded and stood up.

When they got back to the infirmary Elizabeth was in there talking to John. His neck looked blue and his hand was wrinkled and slightly claw like. He saw Sara and put his hand under the covers.

"Hey how's my favourite little girl." Sara ran over and sat on the bed. They obviously hadn't told him about her collapsing. They probably didn't want to worry him anymore.

"I'm fine. You don't look to good."

"Really. I thought I'd look good blue. I'm fine Sara. Look I made a friend." he said pointing to the marine at the door standing guard.

"It's only protocol." Elizabeth said.

"That's your answer for everything isn't it? I should be with them." John said returning to an old conversation.
"You could compromise the mission. They have enough things to worry about …"

"They said that to me too." Sara said. Elizabeth ignored Sara and carried on.

"Your condition could change rapidly"

"I know, and I know I can do this!"

"I'm glad ... you feel that way. But it would be irresponsible of me …"

"This is my life we're talking about."

"I know that."

"IM GOING ON THAT MISSION."

"No, John! You're not."

"DAMMIT!" by now John has stood up. He smashed his hand onto the tray next to him. Sara jumped back and Carson grabbed her and pulled her away from John. Sara became frightened. She wondered what was wrong with him. She could feel tears inside of her. But she wasn't going to cry.

John stared at the floor.

"Elizabeth, take Sara back to her room." Carson said giving Sara to Elizabeth. Sara followed. She glanced over he shoulder at John.

"What's the matter with him?" Sara asked.

"The retrovirus is taking over. It's making him act irrationally."

"He's…he's acting like a …. Wraith."

They got to Sara's room.

"Whatever you do. I want you to stay in here Sara. Promise me." Sara nodded and went in.

She stayed her room for hours. She read a book for a while. Getting bored of that she set up and obstacle course for Rodney the mouse. She used books and rolled some paper up as tunnels. She even made a little jump out of two rubbers and a pencil. Rodney the mouse soon got the hang of it. He'd do anything for a chocolate drop. Sara put him back in his cage and lead down on her bed. Soon she feel asleep.

She woke up hours later. She heard muttering coming up the hallway.

"Do you really think it's necessary to tell her?" Elizabeth's voice was the first she could make out.

"She'll have to find out sooner or later." That was Rodney, the mission obviously hadn't gone well.

"How do you think she'll take it?" Carson was the next to speak. None answered because the doors opened. The 3 stood in front of her

She sat up and looked at them.

"It didn't go well did it." they all looked at the floor. She let her body collapse back on bed and rolled on her side. Carson was the first to walk over.

"What's he like?"

Elizabeth was the next to speak up having seen him an hour ago.

"He's changing. He's starting to become too irrational."

"Can I see him?"

"No" Carson said. He wasn't risking it. Sara rolled over to face him

"Please, before its to late." Carson looked into those blue eyes. He nodded and took her hand. They went to an isolation room of the infirmary.

Carson took Sara into the dark room.

"Carson take her out of her." John ordered. "She can't see me like this. I don't want to hurt her." Carson tugged on Sara's hand but she pulled free.

"Dad." she cried. "Please don't, I want to see you." she sobbed slightly.

"It's for the best Sara." John was upset too. He couldn't risk it though. Carson took her hand and took her to the door. Elizabeth went in.

"John, John, it's me Elizabeth."

"Listen to me Elizabeth. Put more guards outside the door. I don't know what I'm capable of. My body is shouting out me. It wants to attack."

She walked closer to him. Sara was hugging Carson.

"Listen, just leave me. Lock the doors and leave me. Or better still shoot me." Sara cringed in Carson arms.

"Just, look after Sara. If you can't do anything to save me, take care of her. Same goes for you Carson. She needs a male role model. Not sure Rodney's up to the job."

Carson gave a slight laugh.

"Leave me." he said. "LEAVE ME." his shout was final and Carson carried Sara out.

"Sara stay with Elizabeth." Sara didn't want to leave Carson. But she left reluctantly. They went to the control room and Elizabeth put Sara in her office. She left her with her laptop. She played solitaire for a bit. Then chess, she easily beat the computer even on the hardest level.

A while later Sara heard people running around franticly. She saw Rodney in the control room. She Headed over, Elizabeth looked up from beside Rodney.

"What going on?" Sara asked.

"John's escape from the room. He could be dangerous." There was another man standing next to Rodney. He turned to a group of men.

"Alright. Four teams. Surround him and close in. I want him stopped. And gentlemen – use whatever level force you deem necessary. Move out."

Sara grew angry.

"Don't tell them to do that, you idiot." Caldwell turned round.

"This must be Sara. What's she doing in the control room?"

"I thought it best if she stayed with me for a while." Elizabeth responded.

"You can't let them shoot him." Sara begged.

"Look sweetheart." Caldwell said kneeling down. Sara took s step back.

"He could hurt lots of people."

"1) Don't kneel down like that, it's rather patronising.

2) Don't call me sweetheart.

3) He wouldn't hurt anyone.

4) you will not KILL HIM." She shouted at the top of her voice.

Caldwell stood up.

"I don't believe your in charge of this base."

"And neither are you." Elizabeth said. Sara gave a sarcastic grin at the man. Elizabeth turned to the marines.

"You will only use such force as a last resort." Sara frowned again.

"They shouldn't use it at all."

"I'm sure it won't come to that Sara."
Sara watched as the teams left. Ronon and Teyla were also helping. She hoped they were the ones to find him. They'd never kill him. They all watched the screen. Sheppard's dot was red, the others where white. Rodney explained that because his DNA had changed the computer saw him as a different species. The red dot suddenly moved from one part of the city to another.

"I thought you said that he couldn't use the transporters." Caldwell said.

"I said I doubted he was lucid enough." Rodney retorted .

"Shut 'em down. He's not doing it again."

"Thus stranding your search teams."

Caldwell turned around and clicked on his radio.

"Bravo Team, you're on deck. Tango is right below you." Sara scrunched her face up in confusion. Why did they call their teams by weird names. Surely it was easier to call them by there names.

"Look there signals are getting close." Sara said pointing at the screen. Caldwell turned around and looked at the screen.

"Stay sharp. He should be right in there with you." he said into the radio. He smiled at Sara for the help.

"We've got him." came over the radio and Sara began to run to the infirmary. All in vain because Caldwell had just grabbed her.

"I think it best you didn't go see him. He's to dangerous." Sara wiggled. Why did people always stop her from doing what she wanted.

"Let…me. Go!

"I'll let you go If you promise to not run off."

"Fine!" he let her go but she started to run again. He was on her tail in no time. He picked her up and carried her back to the control room. Elizabeth had come over.

"What's going on?"

"He won't let me go." Sara said still wiggling.

"She's trying to get to the infirmary. I do not think that would be a good idea." Elizabeth nodded.

"Let. Me…Go!"

"You broke your promise last time. Do you think I'd be stupid enough to do it again."

Suddenly Caldwell lifted a centre meters inches off the ground.

"What!" he seemed slightly stunned. "What's going on?"

Elizabeth began to smirk so did Rodney.
"Sara put him down."

"What! Oh uh kinda uncontrollable." Caldwell dropped back down.

He was stunned. He was slightly scared of what she could do.

"uh. Ok. If I let you go do you promise not to run off. If you do I will have you locked in a cell."

"Fine"

Sara made a huff sound. Caldwell let her go. Tears fell down her face.

"Hey don't cry. I wouldn't lock you in the cells."

Elizabeth hugged Sara.

"It's not that. It's just. Is he going to die?" Elizabeth looked done at the tear filled eyes. She didn't know what to say. No on had the answer, the ways things were going it didn't look good.

"I don't know."

Later that night Sara was sitting on her bed. She hugged her knees. She had been crying for hours. A knock came at the door.
"Come in." Sara said whipping away the tears. She was surprise to see Rodney standing at the door.

"I was just…uh." he hated to see Sara crying. He wondered over to the bed and hugged her. He felt starange hugging her. He wasn't use to it.

Ronon and Teyla weren't far behind. Soon they were all sitting in Sara's room talking. A knock came at the door again. Elizabeth stood there. She sat down on the edge of the bed.

"You guys are up late." Elizabeth said.

"Can't you sleep either?" Rodney enquired.

"Any progress?" Sara asked.

"No. He's still in a coma. At least he isn't in any pain." Sara rested her head on Rodney's side. She felt sick from everything.

"Maybe if I went alone, maybe …" Dex began.

"It's not open for discussion." Elizabeth said in her hardest voice. She wasn't going to let anyone else die.

"I understand. Believe me, I appreciate how you feel. Look, we have closed down that section of the Infirmary but if you feel the need to ... What I mean to say is, if you would like ... He's highly sedated. He can't harm anyone. So if you want have a private goodbye, you should probably do it soon."

Sara began to cry even harder. Rodney held her tightly. Elizabeth had never seen him so caring.

"Are we really there?" Rodney asked.

"I think we might be."

A voice came over Elizabeth's radio.

"Doctor Weir, I need to speak to you immediately." Carson said.

"What is it?"

"Meet me in your office. I think I have an idea."

She left and the 4 where left in silence. All that could be heard where Sara's sobs. After a while she cried herself to sleep. She wanted to help so much but she couldn't.

A while later Elizabeth came back. Sara woke up to them talking quietly.

"So because he has mutated the iratus bugs won't attack him."

"Yes."

Sara kept her eyes closed, listening to the conversation.

"So we send John in and he collects a sample."

"Aye, we'll have to give him one massive doss of the inhibitor so he can be clear minded for the mission." Sara heard Carson's voice. He must have come in with Elizabeth.

"Yeah, but won't giving him that much inhibitor, like …"

"Kill him? Yes, it's a definite possibility. Even if I knew it was for certain, I'd be tempted to offer him one last hour of lucidity." Carson replied to Rodney's question.

"Do it." Elizabeth said. Sara decided it was time to open her eyes.

"I'm going too." She said.

"I thought you were asleep lass. You made me jump."

"I'm going."

"Your not." Elizabeth said.

"It's like you said. The inhibitor will make him clear headed enough to not be a threat to us. So I'd be safe."

"What about the iratus bugs. There're extremely dangerous." Elizabeth added.

"I need to go. It might be the last chance I…" Sara looked down at the covers on her bed. She couldn't say it.

"Ok. But you stay with Rodney."

Later on Sara stood in the gate room with Rodney, Teyla and Ronon. Carson entered with Sheppard in toe. Sara gasped. He looked so much different. He barely acknowledged her.

"Alright, come on, we don't have a lot of time." Carson said.

They stepped through the wormhole.

A fair walk and they reached the cave. Sara felt horrible. John hadn't muttered a word to her the whole walk.

"Use this and collect as many as you can. Oh boy! At least a container full, d'you understand?" Carson handed him the container.

"Colonel Sheppard? You know that we cannot go in there with you, but you need to hurry. It took us a little longer to get here than we would have liked." Teyla said.

Sheppard pushed past her and walked into the cave. Sara bit her lip.

They stood in silence for a few minutes until Carson watch suddenly bleeps.

"What was that?" Sara asked. Carson stared at his watch.

"That's how long I estimated the inhibitor would work."

": So that means he's …" Ronon began
"There's no way to know for certain."

The stood in silence for a moment longer until Ronon spoke up.

"And do what?" Rodney said in his sarcastic voice.

Teyla tried to answer. "If the inhibitor has worn off …"

"... then he's beyond our help." Carson said. They all knew it. He would be uncontrollable.

A sound came from inside the cave. Ronon rose his gun.

"Dad." Sara said as John came out of the cave. She wanted to run to him and hug him but she couldn't. He was still mutated. Suddenly he dropped to the floor. Sara couldn't stop herself this time. She ran over and crouched by his side. She grabbed his claw like hand. Tears flowed down her face.

"Do you have enough?" Teyla asked Carson.

"Aye, I think so."

Ronon picked John up easily. They began to head towards the gate at a fast past. Sara had to run to keep up with the large steps of the adults. Many things went through Sara's mind. What would she do if he didn't survive. She couldn't loose him as well. She couldn't go through it again. They reached the gate and she snapped out of her thoughts. She breathed heavily out of breath. The kawoosh of the Stargate made her jump slightly. They stepped through and John was immediately taken to the infirmary with Carson not far behind.

Later on Sara was sat on Carson's lap in Elizabeth office. Rodney, Caldwell Ronon and Teyla were all there too.

"It's not gonna happen overnight – you can bet on that – but the transformation has begun to reverse itself." Carson spoke. Sara smiled. She felt so relived. She had almost lost him.

"So eventually he'll be back in uniform?" Caldwell asked.

"Eventually."

"Well done, Carson, for once again elevating medicine to actual science." Rodney said. Sara couldn't help but giggle. Carson tickled her.

"Well, thank you, Rodney"

"We'll all finally be able to get some sleep. Especially you young lady." she said to a yawning Sara. Sara had probably slept the most out of the group. It was a way of healing to her.

"Can I see him."

"Only for 5 minutes then its bed for you." Carson said. He placed a kiss on her head and they headed for the infirmary.

Sara sat by John's bed. She rested her head on her arms, which were resting on the bed. She held one of his hands. She felt safe again. She didn't fear him. It scared her how close she came to loosing him. Slowly her mind turned to happier thoughts. She couldn't wait until he was back to normal. He'd promised he'd take her on a trip to the mainland soon. And maybe even go to earth for a few days. Her body began to relax. Her breathing became lighter. She smiled and slowly she fell asleep.
