Jenny screamed as she saw Emmy sink down to the ground and Merlin quickly placed his hands over her lips, feeling her soft sobs against his skin. 'Arthur we have to go now!' He warned.
Arthur just nodded bitterly as he rushed to the car, checking one last time to see if there were any more undead in the car as he climbed into the driver's seat. Merlin pushed Jenny into the backseat, before he jumped in beside Arthur. Arthur quickly started the engine and backed up, driving over one of the undead and Merlin heard the sickening crack of its skull.
His eyes shifted for one last time to the dead bodies of Philip and Emmy as he tried to hide a sob, how did it all come to this?
He turned back around as Arthur started to speed up, driving past and over the undead, the zombies reached for them, but for once they were protected by the car. For now, they were safe.

Arthur bit his lip as he drove through the gate, in his rear view mirror he could see the mansion for the last time, he knew it was going to be the last time. He silently prayed to himself as he turned onto the street, which to his relief was less crowded than the mansion.
He increased the speed and let out a soft sigh, they were safe.
It was then that his eyes shifted for a moment to Merlin, who was shaking softly and trying to hide his sobs. In the back Jenny was crying loudly, big tears rolling down her cheeks and Arthur just wanted to wrapped his arms around her, but he knew there was no time for that now.
They drove further down the road, with no plan, simply knowing that they had to go towards New York.
'Can you get the map?'
His words startled Merlin from his thoughts, the raven was rapidly blinking as he tried to hide the tears in his eyes. 'Uh... Yeah..' He mumbled as he reached to his side to pull out one of the maps. Luckily they had already agreed on the path they would take.
The raven was staring absentmindedly at the map in his hands, his mind clearly still with their lost friends. 'So which way do we go?' He asked, trying to get Merlin's mind off the current events, even though he knew that was nearly impossible.
'... We have to turn right in about two miles.'
Arthur nodded and again they fell silent. It was a strange thing, it wasn't often that they fell silent like this, this awkward silence. He simply had to break it, he couldn't sit in the silence any longer... 'Tell me about her last years.'
Merlin's head snapped around to him, fear spreading slightly through his eyes. Arthur knew that Merlin somehow understood whom he was talking about, his sister... they hadn't ever ended up talking about her. He just wanted to know what had happened to her... before this all started, had she been happy?
The raven turned his head away again, but he did answer his question. 'About when she left you and your father?' He glanced once to see that Arthur nodded. '... We met not long after she left, she started working as an assistant to Dr. Senkins, I was his other assistant... She was brilliant in everything that she did and I'm certain that she would have been able to change the world, if this hadn't happened at least.' Merlin glanced out of the window, a small smile spread over his lips. 'It was Morgana who asked me out on a date two months after we met, I guess that she was getting tired of waiting for me to ask her out.'
Arthur chuckled. 'That indeed sounds like her.'
'You should have seen how many men were hitting on her and almost no one wanted to believe that I was her boyfriend, always calling me her little brother... but she never dumped me.'
Arthur nodded. 'You know, Morgana never dated many people, only the ones she was serious about. She must have loved you a lot.'
The smile on Merlin's face grew bigger. 'And I love her with all my heart.' He replied. '... half a year ago I finally had the courage to ask her to marry me.' He chuckled softly. 'And she said yes.' The raven turned back to face him. 'She told me that she was planning on contacting you and your father again, she wanted to invite both you and your father to our wedding.'
It was a stab to the heart, he had wanted to see her so badly. 'When were you planning to hold the wedding?'
Merlin didn't immediately answer. 'Two weeks ago, or something like that as we don't know the exact date anymore.'
'W-was she pretty?' Merlin turned to look into the back when he heard Jenny's voice.
'Yes, she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen... and you will probably be even prettier when you grow up.' He said with a forced smile and he turned back around again falling into silence.

The sun began to set and they decided to search for a place to stay the night. Which was why they parked the car in front of one of the many farms they past, it was a small house, but one that seemed to have a good defense if needed.
Merlin stepped out of the car, his hands tightly wrapped around the knife as his head glanced quickly from side to side, but there weren't any undead in the area. They quickly unloaded the basics and carried them to the door, fortunately just like outside there were no zombies inside.
They quickly blocked all the doors and windows before Merlin handed Jenny and Arthur some food, it wasn't long before they slept, Jenny crying herself to sleep in his arms.
Merlin volunteered the second watch and it wasn't long before Arthur woke him up, the man looked so tired, almost unable to hold his eyes open.
It was a silent night and he had to force himself to keep his eyes open as he took guard duty. He bit his lip as he leaned back into the chair, his eyes lingering on Jenny. He pitied her, was it really alright to let her live this life, a life filled with fear and danger.
Still there wasn't any other choice... the only other choice was death. Hopefully the settlement would be able to protect her, them... His eyes shifted to Arthur. They all needed the rest, to live at least one night without fear.
He reached for his pocket, slowly brushing over the paper beneath his fingers, the cure. He was certain that with Gaius' help he would be able to create it, his only worry was that the right instruments were at the settlement, but that was a worry other days, now they had to focus solely on staying alive.
Their adventure had almost ended, they were almost there... almost.
His eyes shifted for a moment to the window as he saw the first rays of the sun shine through it. They had survived another night.
He quickly got out of the chair, eying the outside for a moment to see if it was still empty before he walked to the kitchen. He would let the others sleep for a while more as he made breakfast for all of them.
It wasn't long before he brought the plates to the table and went back to wake the others up. He silently crouched down next to Arthur, the man was sleeping in one of the chairs, snoring softly with his mouth open. It actually looked rather funny. A soft smile spread over his lips before he reached for the blond, shaking him. 'Arthur, it's time for you to wake up.'
The blond mumbled softly as he blinked, waking up as he stared in confustion at Merlin. 'W-what?...'
'Wake up prat, you have slept long enough.' A growl left Arthur's lips and the raven added. 'There's breakfast for you.'
He turned around and sank down next to Jenny, she was sleeping silently on the couch. 'Wake up, dear.' He whispered as he brushed through her hair. 'I have made you some breakfast.'
She smiled softly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. 'Thank you.' She said with a sleep filled voice. 'I love you Merlin.'
He smiled softly at the little girl. 'I love you to.' And he meant it, she was like a little sister to him.
He lifted her up before he walked to the kitchen, setting her down in one of the chairs. Arthur shuffled after them and the two grownups sat down on the remaining chairs, Arthur with a yawn leaving his lips.
After breakfast they packed the few bags they had taken with them into the house and of course their weapons.
Jenny was enjoying herself, running around the house with a big smile on her lips and for a moment it seemed like she had forgotten everything that had happened the day before. It was a heartwarming sight and he couldn't help but let a smile cross his face.
'So are we ready to go?' Jenny asked as she walked up to him.
Merlin smiled softly as he nodded. 'Yes, we're ready to go.' It was then that the girl spun around and ran for the door, he gasped when he saw how fast she darted away and he tried to stop her, but wasn't able to reach her. 'No, Jenny, wait!'
Arthur snapped at them, but Merlin didn't care about him, he just ran towards the girl.
Jenny just gave him a confused look, her hand on the doorknob and the bag in her hand. She absentmindedly opened the door, allowing the fresh air to brush through the room.
He hadn't reached her and he saw a shadow in the corner of his eye and it reached the girl before he could.
The undead jumped onto the little girl, his sharp teeth burrowing themselves in her neck, blood spurting everywhere. He could only hear her scream that deathly plea for help.
He pulled the zombie off Jenny, plunging his knife into its skull before he turned back to Jenny, her hands clenched onto her bleeding neck, tears in her eyes... she was lost.

A/N: *Hides under her bed*. Uhh... yeah, my beta reader is also angry at me for the ending of this chapter, but it just had to be done for this story. Still I hope that you have enjoyed this chapter. I also have to say that the next chapter will also be the last one (probably, unless it becomes longer than planed). But still tell me what you thought of this story, reviews definitely help me write quicker.
