Chapter 10: New Allies and Preparation for mini war.
NARU'S POV
Mai gives me a hurt look, then erases all emotion from her face. She grabs her bag and leaves the office, slamming the office door shut. I sigh heavily. Why is she suddenly so interested in my decision? I'm the boss, she's the employee. She has to listen to me, no questions asked. Yasu closes his laptop and goes toward the door.
"And where are you going?" I ask.
"After her, where else? You just don't get it." Yasu says, it's the first time I've actually seen him serious. He leaves the office.
I don't have time for child play. I go into my office and open up my laptop. I go through my files and finally find the one I'm looking for: The Vampire Rebellion. Gene, my twin brother was on a case involving the Vampire Rebellion before he disappeared here in Tokyo. That's the reason why I'm here in the first place. To find my brother.
Before our minds completely cut off a couple of months ago, he told me that he planned on investigating the Vampire Rebellion. I look through all his notes on the Rebellion. Why was Gene so obsessed with them? I don't understand what he was looking for. Then the idiot goes and gets himself killed.
I believe he's dead because we're usually connected, no matter how far away we are from each other. Our minds were connected since birth, we always knew what the other was thinking. I don't know why or how Gene is connected to the Vampire Rebellion, but I do know that's a good place to start. I have to hack into their database. I might find a clue or at least something that has information on my brother's whereabouts. I sigh and close my laptop, if I don't find anything, I'll risk my team's life for nothing.
I look at my office phone. I really don't want to, but the only person I know who has enough manpower and weapons to take down an army is my old Mentor. Time to call Madoka.
MAI'S POV
I hear a knock at my door. I take a deep breath, then go and open it.
"Hello beautiful." Yasu grins. I start to close the door, but he stops it with his foot.
"I'm not in the mood Yasu." I glare at him. He still gives me a goofy smile.
"Come onnnn, I know you love me, can you please let me in?" He gives me the biggest puppy eyes ever. I try my best to hide my smile, but he looks so ridiculous. I roll my eyes and walk away from the door and he lets himself in.
"Wasn't it weird that Naru was so concerned with the Vampire Rebellion? He's definitely hiding something." Yasu says. I don't say anything.
"But what's even weirder is that you didn't agree with him. You always collect research on the Vampire Rebellion, why back out now? This is a great opportunity for you." He says.
"No. That's a great opportunity to get us all killed! Think about it Yasu. There's eight of us and over 400 of them. We don't stand a chance." I say. Great, my hand is starting to shake.
"It's Naru, I don't think he's stupid enough to risk all of our lives, he probably cooked up some genius plan like he always does. Plus have some more faith in us Mai. You're hurting my pride here." He gives me a playful hurt look.
"I know, I'm sorry, it's just-"
"You're scared." He says, looking at my shaking hand.
"No, I'm not." I glare at him.
"I'm not judging you Mai. I'm scared too. We all are. I mean who wouldn't be? Plus your parents were murdered by vampires when you were younger right? You told us at the dinner party...That's probably making you worry more. We're all gonna be fine… Mai I'll protect you. Don't worry." Yasu says. He pulls me into a hug. At first, I was surprised at the sudden hug so I was frozen stiff. However, I slowly hug him back. He's right, as always. Worrying just makes it worse. We break up our little embrace.
"All righty! Get some rest and don't be late. We have to be at the office by sunrise. I'll call the team, so don't worry about it." Yasu says, then he takes his leave.
"Thanks.." I mumble. I suddenly feel super tired. I throw myself on the bed and not a second later, I'm fast asleep.
DREAM WORLD:
I open my eyes and light blue eyes stare into my caramel eyes. It's dream Naru. He offers me his hand, I'm lying on the floor of a smelly dark place. I know he's not Naru. He's way too nice to be Naru. He can't be that stupid jerk. Maybe he's some kind of figment of my own imagination. Wait, why would I imagine Naru with a nice personality? Ugh stop thinking Mai. I blush and take his hand.
"Where are we? " I ask, dusting off my pants.
"Underneath Tokyo." He replies. He starts walking. I follow him. He makes a left, then a right, then another left. We reach a huge metal door.
"Go inside." Dream Naru says. I look at him with surprise, usually he leads me. I slowly open the heavy metal door. This is the place I saw on Yasu's laptop! Where they might be hiding the kids. I look in all the cells. Finally I see them. Thank God, they're still alive.
Jun is tall and slender, with blonde hair and red eyes. Olivia is tightly holding onto Jun. Then I hear a door open, I turn around to see three tall dark figures walk past me. Jun puts Olivia behind him. One opens the cell while the other two go inside. Jun punches the first guy, sending him flying into the wall. Then he kicks the other guy sending him into the guy holding the cell open. He grabs Olivia's hand and they sprint out.
They run blindly down the tunnels.
"Where are we?!" Olivia asks, out of breath.
"Sewers." Jun says. They continue to run. They make a left and see that it's a dead end, so they retrace their steps. The dark figures are catching up to them and fast. Then Jun suddenly pushes Olivia in front of him.
"Keep running. Don't look back." Jun says, panting, his breathing is a little off.
"What? No. Jun come on. Please let's just keep running." Olivia says.
"I can't Olivia." Jun's holding his side, there's something there. He pulls it out, it's a syringe.
"No.. no… NO! When did that happen..?" Olivia asks, her voice breaks in between words. Jun gives her a weak smile. She loses her composure and breaks out in tears.
"The guy who was holding the cell open. He injected me with something. I can feel it taking effect." Jun grunts.
"No. Jun let's go." She starts running, pulling him along. He falls, and starts coughing up blood. She's crying hysterically now. She puts his arm around her small shoulder and starts dragging him. The dark figures surround her. Jun loses conscious.
"Just leave us alone! Please! Let us go!" Olivia screams at them. One of them hits her on the back of her neck, knocking her out. He picks her limp body up and throws her over his shoulder. The other two guys drag Jun's body. The scene goes black.
"What's gonna happen to them?" I ask Dream Naru.
"That's for you to find out." Dream Naru says. Dream Naru starts to fade and I then feel the familiar tug of me being pulled away.
END OF DREAM
I open my eyes to a dark hotel room. I sigh and get up. My phone rings, I look at the Caller ID, it's Naru. I roll my eyes. I don't want to talk to him. I take a hot shower then throw on my black leather tights, combat boots and a black leather jacket. My phone rings again, this time it's Yasu. I answer.
"Hello?"
"Mai, you're 20 minutes late. Where are you? Naru looks like he's going to murder someone with his piercing glares and he's snapping at everyone. Get over here quick." Yasu says.
"On my way." I say, then hang up. I sigh, then grab my motorcycle keys and leave my hotel room. I speed on the highway to the office. I get there in no less than 10 minutes. I walk into the office.
"You're late." Naru glares.
"Obviously." I roll my eyes, then walk past him. I see an unfamiliar face. It's a beautiful women. She's average height, with brown eyes and reddish brown shoulder length hair.
"Ah you must be Mai! How pretty! I'm Madoka Mori! Naru's old Mentor. Nice to meet you!" She says sweetly. I already like her. My mood improves almost instantly at her positive energy.
"Hi! Yup I'm Mai! Nice to meet you too!" I say, giving her a huge smile.
Suddenly, I'm pulled into a bear crushing hug. I gasp for air.
"Mai! You're finally here! I've missed you! OUCH!" Monk says. He lets me go because Ayako hit him across his head with her enormous purse.
"You're suffocating her, you big dummy!" Ayako glares at him.
"Don't get mad because Mai loves me more, you old hag." Monk says. Ayako hits him again with her purse. John intervenes.
"Guys I think we should all try getting along." He says nervously. Ayako and Monk continue arguing. Lin ignores them and I spot Masako in her Kimono, her sleeve is covering her mouth.
"Enough." Naru says, his voice is extremely harsh and serious. Madoka clears her throat then smiles.
"Well, now that we're all here, we need to suit up. But before we get to the juicy part, Naru, explain to them your plan." Madoka says to all of us.
"Madoka has agreed to help us take down the Vampire Rebellion organization here in Tokyo. She has 52 highly trained professional vampire hunters on her team, including herself. Putting her team and our team together, we have a total of 60 vampire hunters. There's roughly about 400 or so criminal vampires lurking in Tokyo's sewers. We will be split into 12 groups of five. Team 1, we be Lin, Masako, two members of Madoka's team and myself. Team 2 will be Madoka and four of her team members. Team 3 will be Yasu, Mai, and three of Madoka's members. Team 4 will be John and four of Madoka's members. Team 5 will be Ayako and four of Madoka's members. Team 6 will be Monk and four of Madoka's members and teams 7 through 12 are all Madoka's members." Naru explains.
I look at Yasu. He mouths 'Yay we're on the same team' to me. I grin and roll my eyes. He's such a goof ball.
"Each team will get earpieces, uniform, and microphones to communicate with one another. To communicate with a different team, just switch the channel. Team 1 is channel 1, team 2 is channel 2, etc. Team leaders were chosen beforehand. Each team leader is apart of Madoka's organization. They will explain to you your role in this raid. Any questions?" Naru asks. No one says anything.
"Good. Your team leaders are waiting for you outside. We'll be going underground in 20 minutes. Get ready. You're all dismissed." Naru says, then he turns around and goes into his office. Yasu grabs my hand.
"Come on Mai, we're all already late, let's not get Naru any more pissed than he already is." He says, pulling me out of the office. I roll my eyes. Who cares if he's pissed?! Annoying jerk. Three medium built guys and two girls were standing outside like statues. One of the men step forward. He's wearing an all black tactical body armor. On the left of his tactical armor, Team 3 is written in white, under it, is a name, most likely his. He's tall, with red hair and red eyes. He'd be handsome if he wasn't so serious. He looks like he's in his mid twenties.
"Mai. Yasu. I'm your team leader. My name is Sota Hokkaido. Call me So or sir. Whichever you prefer. Follow me." He turns around and walks a few feet, then he opens the back of a van that says team three. Wow they're so organized. I can't believe I didn't notice any of this before I got here... Inside is a man and a woman dressed in the same tactical body armor.
"Hello! You guys must be Mai and Yasu! I'm Kia, and this is Doug. Nice to meet you!" The woman smiles widely at us. She has brown eyes and short brown hair. She's really cute and short, she doesn't look a day over 16, even though she's probably in her mid twenties. Doug has blue eyes and blonde hair, he's average height and cute, however he's very quiet looking.
"Please take care of us." Yasu and I say while bowing.
"Change into these." Sota says, holding out two uniforms. We grab them and change into them. Sota gives us each two knives, two guns, one handgun and a shotgun, and three bombs. One gas and two explosive. Then he gives us two boxes of ammo. He also gives us earpieces and mini microphones.
"This should be good enough. Our mission is to locate the hostages. We go in, take out whoever's in our way to the cells underground. Any questions?" Sota asks.
"What about the other teams?" Yasu asks.
"Don't focus on the other teams. This is our team and our mission. We go in. Grab the hostages and get out. Nothing more, nothing less. Got it?" Sota says.
"Crystal clear." Yasu says nervously. Sota is a little intimidating.
"Okay. Let's move out." Sota says. We all get into the van, Kia drives. We stop in front of a manhole in the Shibuya district.
"Where is everyone else?" I ask.
"We're all going in at the same time, just at different locations to surround the enemy and make sure no one escapes." Sota replies. He's like a robot. Jeesh, he kind of reminds me of Naru. Sota look at his wrist watch. After a few quiet seconds, he finally speaks.
"Now." He says. Kia and Doug pop open the manhole. Sota jumps in first.
"Clear." He says after a few brief moments. Kia jumps in. Then Doug. Then Yasu.
"Show time." I sigh. I jump into the dark, creepy looking manhole. When I land on the floor, a splash echoes.
"Gross." I say. It takes a few seconds for my human eyes to adjust to the darkness. I turn on my flashlight. I can't use my vampire powers here, I might get caught.
"Let's move forward." Sota says. He leads the team forward.
This is gonna be one long ass day.
