Chapter Ten

Pulling up into the Batcave Payton jumped off her bike and whipping away the blood that was sliding down her face. Removing her costume she swiftly placed them on the table knowing that blood needed to be remove and repairs needed to be made. Glancing down at the knife womb at her side, she light touches that she soon regretted. Pain was radiating off of it that somehow seemed to connect to the cut across her cheek which she was sure would leave a scar. Skidding over the first aid on the wall by the chambers that held the costumes she pulled off the kid. Opening up the kit she snatched up all the necessities and moved over to the nearby chair.

"Miss Payton," hearing her name being called she glanced over her shoulder finding Alfred standing there in his professional manner with a look of concern.

Pressing her lips together she watched as he hurried toward her. She didn't say anything choosing to simply sit down and let her faithful butler who is more like grandfather toward her tend to her wombs. She had seen her father in brothers in this chair plenty of times dealing with the injuries that they had gathered during their battles. She had actually often at times image herself in this seat being patched up by her father or Alfred while her brother boosted about her wombs. Though her mind wasn't really set on that right at this moment.

For a brief moment she thought back to strange warm feeling she got when she was fighting Trickress. She was able to place those feelings to whenever she was near Angel. Speaking of which she had to find out what was going on with her. Letting out a sigh she clutch her fist as Alfred dabbled the alcohol on to her side and cheek. Her mind flash back to Trickress. They way her eyes matched those of Angel's. Though weirdly they displaced an unpleasant amount of hate. While Angel's simply related to pain.

It was weird to think to about which is why she tried to stop but couldn't. Running a hand through her hair, she tried to come up with reasonable answers as to why that could be possible. However nothing came up. Everything pointed out at the one option that made her stomach turn. Flinching she was pulled back out of her thoughts when she felt something go over her womb.

"All done Miss Payton, I'll make you a sandwich with a glass of water. Don't want you taking your antibiotics and pain killers on an empty stomach,"-the faithful butler announced as he stood up-"and congratulations on her your first set of scars."

Giving a half smile she watched the grandfather like man disappear up the steps. Painfully standing up she wobbles over to the extra set of clothes on the table nearby. Slowly she put on her Icon for Hire shirt with a pair of jeans and beat up gray converse. Taking a deep breath she made her way up stairs to prepare for Angels' arrival.

As she descended up the steps she called out to Alfred alerting him of her presence upstairs. Pulling out her cell she prepared herself to handle whatever situation Angel was about to throw at her. Opening her door she started dialing the familiar number as she closed the door right as she was slammed into the door. Adrenaline rushed through her as she prepared to fight whoever she needed to. She quickly met with a sob and a shiver telling her that she needed comfort instead of more pain.

Clearing her throat she glanced down at the tangle meant of blonde hair blocking the girl's face. Taking her guard down she wrapped her arms around Angel as she felt wet tears touch her chest. Everything was quite except for the sniffles coming out every now in than. Soothing her as best she could Angel all the while letting an unreadable feeling rage close inside her.

She pushed it a side however when a knock at the door came. Angel jumped away from her as Payton brush a strand of dirty golden hair out of her face before cupping her cheek. Blue eyes met Green eye and Blue eye as she placed a hand on her shoulder. With a nod her head the dirty blonde directed herself to the bed as she pulled open the door.

"Your snack Miss Payton," Alfred offered with a smile before catch a glimpse of Angel sitting on the bed.

Not allowing him a chance to say anything. She grabbed the tray away from him and closed the door with her foot. Carrying the tray over to the bed she placed them in between her and Angel. Picking up the ham and cheese sandwich she hands it over to the girl who was causing her to feel so many different emotions. At first Angel was unsure on taking but after the pleading on Payton face she takes the sandwich nibbles on it.

Glancing up Angel narrowed her eyes as she looked over Payton. Noticing the expression on her face Payton raised an eyebrow. Reaching out the dirty blonde lightly touched the gaze covering her face. She flinched at first but eased into the touch almost welcoming it. She than felt the fingers drop down to her lip that had a small cut on it. Squeezing her eyebrows together Angel the proceeded to brush the tangled mess of jet black hair to reveal another small cut near her eyebrow.

"What happened?" she questioned as she examined over the cuts and bruises over her face.

"Uh, I was riding my bike and I fell on a rock," she breezed through like this was a daily thing.

"You fell?"

"Yeah on some rocks, some really sharp rocks. Like knives almost."

"You fell on some rocks?" she lightly touched causing her to flinch a bit.

"Yep to sharp of a turn," Payton chuckled out nervously trying to give off a resourcing smile.

"Why didn't you have your helmet on?"

"Stupid mistake."

Raising an eyebrow Angel looked to an analyzed the tray. Reaching over she picks up the bottle of anti-biotic and looking over the other one that was for pain killing.

"Here you need this more than me," Angel answered handing her the bitten of sandwich.

Smirking she rips the sandwich down the middle and hands the other half to Angel. Giving a brief smile she takes the food from her and begins to devour it. Every now and then Payton would glance over at Angel. The undefinable emotion kept creeping up on her trying to poke through. She also found herself on edge sitting by her. It was almost like she was waiting for Trickress to suddenly appear next to her.

Feeling a bit uneasy she finished off the rest of her sandwich before standing up. Grabbing the pill bottles she walked into the bathroom forgetting about the glass of water. Taking the appropriate amount of medicine she swallowed the pills taking a drink of water from the sink. She stood in front of the mirror with her hands gripping the sink as she let the chemicals kick in. Though none of that could compare with the thoughts that were causing a thunder storm.

Cupping her hands under the water she splashes it in her face repeatedly. When it started getting her shirt wet she cancelled out the water. Running a hand through her hair she took several deep breaths before grabbing a nearby towel and drying her face. Glancing back at herself in the mirror she took in the damage let over from the battle.

The first damage to be look over was the cut from the thrown blade. It reached from the bottom of her right eye to the corner of her right nostril. There was a small cut on her lip but that well heal in time. Alongside of that was of her jaw line where a bruise was forming. Luckily that well heal soon enough also but well just take longer. Brushing a strand of hair out of her face she glanced over the cut on above her eyebrow.

"Payton," Angel voice pushed through the door and grabbed Payton bring her out of her sea of worry.

Glancing at herself one more time in the mirror she pushed aside the damaging thoughts. Shaking her hair lose Payton called out to Angel before she walked out of the bathroom finding the dirty blonde standing near the entrance to the bathroom. Giving her a small smile she made her way toward the dirty blonde who seemed to be always on her mind, even more now with a new piece of the puzzle to probably place.

Taking her hands she led back to the bed and had her lay down on it after she moved the empty tray. Climbing into the bed beside her, the black haired girl wrapped her arms around her. Pulling her close Angel she lets the blue eyed girl nuzzle herself in her neck while Payton laid her head on top of hers. They sat for a few minutes in complete blissful silence. Neither said a word not that they wanted to.

Playing with the strands of dirty blonde hair Payton placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head before just letting them rest there. She could feel the gentle breathing from Angel fiddled with the edge of her shirt. Throughout the house it was silent until she heard the muffled voiced that sounded like it belonged to Alfred and her father. She figured that Damien had already snuck but in or at least was dragged home by her father.

For a moment she thought about getting up and locking her door being sure that no one interrupted there moment together. However given they unmoving blue eyed girl moving just to do that simple task seemed impossible. Closing her eyes she silently prayed that none of them came up or at least not at this moment.

After a while the moment of silence was broken when soft snores slid out. Opening her eyes she found Angel dozing off. A brief thought breezed past her as she thought about waking her up. She wanted to find out about the reason as to why she was here and what was bothering her. The idea was thrown a side though she decided just to let her sleep. Hopefully when she woke up she'll be ready to fill her in on whatever is causing her trouble.

She thought about falling alongside her but couldn't find herself doing so. Letting out a breath she relaxes into her bed as she attempted to listen into the conversation. It sounded like they were discussing what went on with The Joker. Shaking she felt a chill run down her spine. He was actually insane just as every had describe, maybe even more. An imagery burning pain from where he had dug the bud of the gun into her side began to burden her. Swallowing a huge lump in her throat she shifted uncomfortable being sure that not wake her.

Angel. If she was the Trickress which she prayed she wasn't than that meant that the Joker was her father. Meaning that the bruises and cut that she had seen all over her body was credited to him. That also where the fear that has been consuming her was because of him. The cycle of thoughts rained through her mind as it pushed images of the Joker hurting the girl she cares about. A burning rage spread through her like wild fire. Every fiber in her being was screaming at her to suit up and go after that fucking insane clown and show him what insane really means.

Though all thoughts stopped when flashes of fights between them insured. She may not have landed many punches but enough that would leave marks. Payton let her mind wrap around the cuts and bruises littering her body. Exactly how many of those scars belonged to her and how many were her fathers. She also questioned exactly who she feared more. Angel could very well fear the Joker but on the other hand she could fear her. Regardless of how many times they have dueled off she still could fear her more than her father. She just may have an easier time dealing with her wither than her father. She can fight Nightingale anytime she wants, fighting the Joker however was a different story.

The jigsaw puzzle pieces were clouding her thoughts not allowing her to notice the prance of another in her room. It wasn't until she door slamming close did she notice Damien standing there. Without thinking twice she sent him a harsh shush with a venomous glare. All that he gave was a huff and a smirk as he slid his hands into his pocket. He had since gotten rid of his Robin costume and now dawn a pair of black pajama bottoms with a grey T-shirt.

"What do you want Damien," Payton let out in a hush whisper.

"Just came to see if Angel was the one I saw sneak in," he answered in his usual know it all manner.

"She is, what about it?"

"Dad is going to kill you."

"Yeah well I am trying to help a friend and you snuck out. Who do you think he is going to kill first?"

"Are you sure she's just a friend?"

There was a moment of glaring match dueling between the duos. It finally disbanded when the sound of something slamming caught their attention. Payton felt the blonde starting to wiggle under her grip dragging her eyes toward her. Making eye contact with the dirty blonde the jet black haired girl gave her a small smile to which she returned. Their attention was again brought back toward the door when they heard fast thunderous footsteps racing toward them.

Payton tightened her grip on Angel as she waited for who to come after her. Damien brought his hands out of his pocket and balled them ready for a fight. When the footsteps stopped at the door everything froze as they waited for something to happen. A loud knock on the door followed by the sound of Bruce's voice eased everyone's nerves. Calling him to come in, Bruce stepped inside. He stopped though midway when he found Damien standing there. Raising an eyebrow he shook it off when he spotted Angel in the arms of Payton.

She wait for the loud outburst that was sure to come but it didn't come. Instead of want came was actually more bone chilling.

"Everyone stay inside tonight. No one leave until I saw so," his eyes glance up at Angel but harden when it moved over to Payton. "Including you Angel, call your parents and let them know your safe here. We'll take you to them when it's safe."

Before walking away Payton untangled herself away from Angel but still being in reach.

"What's going, why we have to stay in," Payton asked titling her head.

"The Joker escaped," just the statement alone was enough to cause tension in the room. Payton also could have sworn she heard a small whimper from behind. For the time being she decided to ignore it.

"Why do we have to worry about that? Isn't Batman and the rest of the Leaguers going to search after him?" Damien asked sounding almost like he was searching for answers that he can use.

"They are but its best that you-we stay here," he corrected himself frowning.

"Now get to bed all of you. I have a feeling it maybe along night.

Like I said sorry again, I just got really busy and have been trying to rest up a bit. Good news is that I am! Bad news I'm reading a shitty book that makes me want to run into a fucking wall.
