10 - distance

Sam was generally a pretty laid back person. He hadn't always been like that, growing up in a military environment would have that affect on you. Fortunately for him, he had Matt. His bestfriend was never tired of reminding him to relax, to let loose, to just chill the fuck out and stop being so uptight like he had a pole up his ass. "One sour, grumpy Braddock in your house was enough, Sammy." Matt's ways of relaxing might have made them almost have a brush with the law on more than one occasion -they had certainly made him grounded by his father a handful of times- but Sam knew he could always count on Matt. Even in Kandahar where everything had seemed so bleak.

Jules did have a point though - the bike was somewhat of an inconvenient when girls were concerned. But, what ladies was she talking about? All he cared about was that now he would be able to use half of the paycheck he normally used for gas to make his new apartment half-livable, he had a job he had unexpectedly grown to love, and that he got to see Jules Callaghan every day at work - sometimes even during the weekend- before they went home together.

Of course, he had to admit that it did cross his mind that Jules didn't strike him as a woman who would mind sitting on the back of a bike. She probably would see that as a challenge.

He turned around the corner and saw Jules near the far end of the aisle, slowly pushing a trolley half full in front of her before stopping and studying a row of colorful cleaning products on the shelves. Her nose wrinkled in that adorable way of hers. Like him, she didn't enjoy doing grocery shopping; always made sure she had a complete grocery list before leaving the house so that she didn't have to wander around the supermarket wasting time. Although, he had learned that she could spend hours and hours in the Home Depot. He didn't mind spending hours with her in the Home Depot.

Jules finally chose a product and threw it into the trolley before briskly moving on to the neighboring aisle. Sam followed suit, taking his sweet time as if he was taking a stroll in the park.

What he really wanted was to be at her side, maybe had his arm around her shoulder or had her hand in his. He knew neither was an option though. It was already risky enough to go out in public together like this.

Always trying to see a positive side to every situation, this distance gave him the opportunity to ogle at his beautiful girlfriend.

Her dark hair was down as it usually was when they were off shift and Sam could almost smell her jasmine shampoo. There's a small bottle in his bathroom, along with her pink toothbrush in the sink leaning against his. He was admiring the way her jeans hugged her figure perfectly when Jules stopped and turned around, having felt the weight of his eyes on her. She mock huffed, crossing her arms.

"Please don't tell me you're still sulking that we didn't get the Fruit Loops." Jules waited until he was within earshot and chided with a slight frown, clearly misinterpreting why he was hanging back.

He couldn't suppress his chuckles and unable to resist, pressed a quick kiss to her head. Sure enough the now familiar scent of her shampoo instantly assaulting his nose. He tossed a package of pumpkin seed into the trolley.

"Sam," she sighed, nudging him with her shoulder before slipping her arm around his. "I said sesame seed, not pumpkin."

Pleasantly surprised at her gesture, he took over the trolley, a hint of a smile touching his lips when he felt her rest her head on his shoulder. "Sorry. Are you sure about the cereal, though? They're having a 2 for 1 sale…"

I was working on a sexy Jam piece but was having a bit of a hard time with it. So I decided to take a break and write some domesticated Jam. It's been almost 2 months since I posted something! I hope you enjoyed this xx
