Disclaimer: I don't own any character you recognise, the OCs however are mine.
I know it's been a while but here's the next chapter. Thank you so much for all the follows and reviews! You guys are the best!
Damon was in Kol's room while the older vampire 'fussed' over him, (more like scolding him for being so stupid in going out to the high school on his own and then checking him over to ensure that he wasn't hurt). "Kol I'm fine." Damon batted the Original's hands away from him as he guzzled down his blood bag, the O-neg instantly taking away the aches and pains in his body.
"You were jumped from behind, by your own brother none the less! You could have easily been killed!"
Damon rolled his eyes at his over dramatic lover, "Look, I got into plenty of trouble before you came back to Mystic Falls, and then plenty more after your brother got here, and let's face it, so long as I'm with you there will be plenty more trouble to come my way. I'm ok, I'm always ok, and nothing's going to change that."
Kol's eyes darkened at the thought, Damon was right, as long as they were together he would always be in danger, and unlike him he was not indestructible. "Very well, then from now on you are not to leave the house alone."
"What?! Till when? "Damon asked incredulously, his lover was seriously starting to act a little crazy.
"Until you are old enough to not get caught in these situations! At least 800!"
"Kol you're being ridiculous, I'm a grown man and I've lived 160 years perfectly fine!"
"Clearly not, look at what happened today, you just had to be rescued by a baby vampire!"
"I'm not some fragile human that needs constant watching, the only reason I was in trouble was because it was Stefan, it's not like I expected him to be at the school, which by the way was your fault. The only reason they know about the White Oak is because Matt saw you and Carol talking and eavesdropped, how did you not notice him?"
"Me?!" Kol exclaimed, "Why didn't you notice?"
"I was busy keeping Stefan occupied, you know, like we agreed!" Damon argued back, their voices raising in volume.
Klaus rolled his eyes as he heard the two vampires bicker upstairs, he knew that someone was going to break something and sighed, looking back at Caroline who was still so unsure of who's side she was on. That she had given him her stakes and told him how many there were; was a step in the right direction for her, but she still refused to name who else had them. She didn't want to betray her friends, he admired that in her, she was loyal to those she cared about, which was why she was facing such indecision. She was Damon's vampire, she had a connection to the oldest Salvatore that she knew that her friends would not understand, (Stefan especially as he had never turned a vampire and then stuck around to teach them) and it was the reason she had freed Damon from his confines and ensured that he knew of Stefan's intentions. However it was also the reason that he did not know for certain who held the rest of the stakes, he had threatened the baby vampire, threatened her with the death of all her friends, but he could not bring himself to hurt her in such a way. She was warming to him, slowly, very slowly, and killing her friends would only set his progress back a hundred years. She was the first woman to truly catch his attention since Tatia and he was not willing to let her go so easily.
Caroline let her eyes wander to the ceiling as she heard the commotion upstairs, "Should I be worried?" she asked, Damon was always so good at pissing off vampires much older and stronger than him, so much so that she sometimes wondered how he had made it this long alive.
"I doubt it, they are remarkably alike, Kol shouldn't damage Damon… too much." He shrugged giving her a rakish grin, showing off his dimples that just made the younger blonde want to melt.
"I should go," Caroline stood, rather suddenly, she couldn't be having thoughts like that around Klaus, about Klaus!
"Caroline wait," Klaus could hear the tell-tale sounds of someone approaching, and by the fast steps and the scent the wind carried it could only be Stefan, "Sorry about this," he muttered, he pulled her towards him and wrapped a hand around her throat, using his other to brace her as he pushed her up against the wall. (He didn't want to hurt her, he just had to make it look like he was).
Before Caroline could protest to being manhandled, Stefan burst through the door holding a large duffel bag, her eyes widened in surprise as she realised that Klaus had given her a cover story in front of Stefan so it didn't look like she was betraying her friends. "Stefan, what a surprise, how can I help you this fine evening?" he asked with mock cheer in voice.
Stefan tossed the bag at Klaus' feet and looked up at him, "Six stakes that can kill you and your family, we made them out of the part of Wickery Bridge you forgot." He said, keeping his voice even, he wasn't expecting to see Caroline in the mansion, he could only assume Damon had brought her with him as leverage for the Originals, "In return I want you to let Caroline go and free my brother from whatever compulsion Kol has on him."
Klaus' eyes moved to Caroline for a moment, she responded with a baffled look, why would Stefan just announce to Klaus that he had stakes that could kill the Original, and why would he offer them to him? "That's funny mate, but one would think that if you wanted to free yourselves of my siblings then you would keep those stakes to yourself." He pulled Caroline away from the wall and in front of him, securing a hand around her waist while the other remained at her neck, "What's your game Stefan?"
Stefan eyed the hybrid, it appeared that when it came to survival, Klaus' infatuation with Caroline wouldn't stop him from killing her, and Stefan couldn't get close enough to Klaus to stake him while she was in the way. "Well you see, we found out something quite interesting with those stakes," he replied calmly, thinking of a plan to get the baby vampire out of the mess she was currently in, "We had a little run in with Finn and Sage, we killed him," Stefan said plainly, watching Klaus' eyes shift from red to yellow to black in anger, "and half an hour later, when Sage came for her revenge with a companion of hers, they dropped down dead on the floor, before we could do anything about it."
Caroline's eyes widened at Stefan's information, she had no idea that they would be so bold to go against an Original so soon, let alone be able to actually kill them, and what Stefan said wasn't comforting, if he was saying what she thought he was saying.
"It appears as though when you kill an Original, you kill their whole vampire bloodline."
"What?!" a voice said from the door, the vampires in the room turned to see Rebekah looking at Stefan with startled wide eyes, that quickly turned to anger and hate, "You killed my brother?" she growled and launched herself at Stefan. The youngest Salvatore was prepared for her and side stepped, bringing up the stake that he had hidden in his pocket. Klaus saw this and released Caroline, vamp speeding over to Rebekah, and pushing her out of the way of the stake, taking the white oak himself in his side. The roar of pain Klaus let out, shook Rebekah out of her frozen state and she attacked Stefan again, this time succeeding in grabbing hold of him, she snapped his arm and he dropped the stake and fell to his knees when she kicked his feet out from under him. She looked over at Klaus, checking to make sure he was ok, before staring down at her former love. "Now," she tightened her grip on him as Klaus made his way over to them, grumbling about the ruin of his precious Henley. "Minus the stake that's in my brother, how many more are out there?"
Stefan groaned in pain as he lifted his head "Seven, that's it." He couldn't risk them finding them all, he had to kill Klaus to make sure that Elena was safe, and he was willing to take the one in four chance that he might die, doing so.
"That's funny," Klaus said darkly, as Damon and Kol rushed downstairs after hearing the commotion. "Because I could have sworn Damon told me that there were twelve, now let's do the math shall we? Six in the bag, one on the floor and one in my brother makes eight."
"Don't forget the two we got off Caroline," Damon added glaring at his brother, "That makes ten."
"Right, so here we have ten stakes accounted for," Kol said, tapping his bottom lip thoughtfully, "so where are the last two?"
"I'll get them," Stefan panted as Rebekah twisted his arm further, and more and she would rip it off completely.
"How can we trust you?" Rebekah asked, she wasn't about to let the Salvatore go without assurances that they would get those stakes.
"You have Caroline," he wheezed, in truth, as much as he liked Caroline, he was willing to risk her possible loss for Elena.
"Hmm, I don't believe you," Klaus replied, moving towards his former best friend, before anyone could react he had sank his fangs into Stefan's throat for a moment, pulling away when he was sure that the werewolf venom was deep in the wound. Stefan screamed and Kol had to stop Damon from rushing to his brother, "Tell you what Stefan, you go get me those last two stakes and I'll give you the cure, now from the looks of that bite, I'd say you have about twelve hours." He called the twins to the hallway, and they bother appeared in a haze of smoke, "Go with him, ensure the stakes he gives you are the real thing." They nodded their assent, Khaos grabbed Stefan by his uninjured arm and dragged him out of the house.
Klaus turned to Kol and Damon, he was unsure of how much they had heard, "Finn is dead," Kol's eyes hardened as he spoke the words. It was true he had never been a fan of his older brother, his dealings with magic when he was human and his almost insatiable blood lust, set him apart from his siblings, but Finn was still his brother, and he would ensure that Elena Gilbert would pay for the damage she had wrought. He would have tortured and killed Stefan for his impudence, but it was painfully clear that behind the carefree vampire visage that Damon put on, there was still a man in there who cared deeply about his brother.
"Until we get those stakes, no one is to leave the mansion unescorted, agreed?"
"Agreed," Kol nodded, it was for the best, he was reckless, but not reckless enough to get himself killed.
Blaze and Elijah ducked into a corner as Cara rushed past looking for the missing pair, Blaze tried desperately to supress the fit of giggles she could feel threatening to burst forth as she saw her best friends annoyed face. When she was sure that Cara was gone, Blaze tugged Elijah through a hidden walkway in the palace, guiding him back to her room. This time as soon as they entered she locked the door with her magic and ensured the room was soundproof. Cara wouldn't be able to get in no matter how hard she tried.
"I have never been so happy to be alone before," Elijah murmured, pulling her towards him. Cara had done nothing but talk his ear off about the palace and the Underworld and the Royal Family, (which was of course, Blaze's family). She'd done exactly what she'd promised Caleb and kept the two at arm's length so that they could get to know each other on a less intimate basis, but alas it was for nothing. As soon as Elijah saw an opportunity he'd grabbed his mate and sped away when Cara had taken her eyes off of them for one moment. Vampires were not frequent visitors of the Underworld so when it came to his abilities she'd grossly underestimated him.
Blaze smirked up at the Original, she could feel Elijah's frustration building as Cara took them on a lengthy tour of the palace, she could guarantee had they been allowed to blow off steam first then perhaps he would have been more interested in what Cara was saying. Elijah leant down and kissed his mate, one hand threaded through her hair as the other rested on her waist, pulling her flush against him. He couldn't get enough of his mate, everything in him was telling him to never let her go. It was odd, he'd never felt this way about anyone before, not Tatia, or Katherine, or even Celeste, he'd never been so possessive or emotional when it came to women before. He was the epitome of calm, no matter the situation, for a thousand years, he'd never let his emotions truly get the better of him, never had a single hair out of place and now in the matter of a single day, he'd lost much of the control he'd had an iron grip on for a millennium.
He sped them both over to Blaze's bed, removing clothes along the way, Blaze couldn't get enough of the Original, her hands roamed freely through his hair, over his chest and lower. Her demonic senses were going haywire, surrounded by his scent, hypnotised by his touch, mesmerised by the sounds that he made, god help anyone who tried to interrupt them. Once they were both naked Elijah settled on top her, they were both frantic, yet this time around they were in more control. Elijah couldn't hold back his vampire, and Blaze couldn't hold back her demon, but neither of them wanted to. Elijah, sweet, noble Elijah, who did everything he could to repress the monster inside him, found that in this particular moment, he couldn't. It wasn't just that he couldn't, it was that he didn't want to. He was with his mate, the one that was designed for him, and she brought the monster to the surface. His fingers ran through her hair, brushing it from her neck, and his fangs lengthened, burying themselves in her throat as she reached her completion. He pulled away from the taste of her blood, his senses finally coming back to him and tried to move away from her but Blaze held on to him. "Don't hide from me," she whispered, she reached out to caress the veins that had appeared under his eyes, "You're perfect." Blaze leant up and kissed the Original, she'd never believed that she could find her mate, but now that she had, she could actually feel her love for Elijah growing.
"The Witch?" Rebekah asked incredulously, "The Witch is your mate?" Stryfe nodded and the youngest Original burst out laughing, "Well have fun with that!"
"She was made for me and I for her," Stryfe insisted.
"The Bennett Witch is the single most judgmental creature I have ever met, and you are Niklaus' brother, you claim to love him and yet the path you've found yourself on will force you to make a choice." Rebekah walked up the stairs to her room, Klaus wasn't letting anyone out of the house without permission and an escort, and she wanted neither. "And like all of Niklaus' siblings you'll make the wrong choice, and he will never forgive you." With that she sped out of the hallway to her room.
"Brother!" Klaus called walking into the hallway, "Where have you been? Elena Gilbert and her friends killed Finn, I need to know where you all are, I can't lose another brother."
"Khaos told me, I was dealing with a few issues from home, but when I heard, I headed straight back here." He replied, he couldn't tell Klaus about Bonnie Bennett, not until she could accept the darkness in him, and his family. He only hoped that Klaus would understand.
"Alaric, we need your stake," Stefan said, bursting into the history teacher's apartment.
"What? Wh- Stefan, what the hell happened to you?!" Alaric rushed over to the vampire only to be stopped by the demonic twins.
"That's far enough mate," Karnage said, materialising a sword in his hand and pointing at Alaric's throat, "Now why don't you do as you're told, and get that stake."
"Who are you?"
"Let's just say we're Klaus' insurance policy," Khaos replied, walking in through the open doorway, "Now like my brother said, get that stake or Stefan won't be the only one suffering from his bad decisions."
Alaric stared at the two, noting the flash of yellow in their eyes 'They must be Klaus' hybrids' he thought before moving over to the bookshelf, "Ok fine," Stefan's bite mark looked pretty bad, there was no way that he was getting any help from the young vampire anytime soon. Slowly he made a move for his vervein grenade, but one of the brothers materialised in front of him with a smirk.
"Naughty, naughty," Khaos smirked, pulling the grenade from his pocket, "try something like that again, and I'll have to forget that you're Damon's best friend, and that he's Damon's brother. Because right now, he's the only thing keeping you both alive." Alaric nodded, this time heading straight to the bookshelf. He moved two old books and froze.
"Um, it's gone."
Khaos moved forward with a snarl, "DON'T LIE TO ME!"
"I'm not lying!" Alaric backed up against the shelf, "I swear, I put the stake right there!"
"Who else knew where it was Alaric?" Stefan choked out.
"No one! Just m- oh no."
"Alaric," Stefan groaned as Karnage's grip tightened on him, "Please tell me you're not thinking what I'm thinking."
"I'm not a fan of secret messages, now tell me, WHERE IS THE STAKE?!"
"Alaric, please tell me your vampire hating evil alter ego doesn't have a stake that kill off my entire vampire line?"
"Stefan I have no idea where he put it." He looked at his best friend's brother in panic, "I have no idea where it is."
So there was the next chapter! Please review after you've read it! Thanks.
