Chapter Nine
Fire watched Scourge run off before he turned towards Smudge the tip of his tail twitching in irritation. "Never question our leader," he hissed raking the ground with his claws his green eyes blazing. He was a little annoyed at his kithood friend for questioning their leader. He also wanted to learn more battle moves so that he could beat those forest cats who had been so cruel to him, but at least he had the common sense to not ask his leader loads of questions. "If Scourge attacks you I won't protect you. We might be my friend but I won't die for you," he meowed with a lash of his tail before stalking off towards the alley.
Smudge stared at his friend stunned and watched him stalk off before racing to catch up with him. "Fire you've know me longer than you've known Scourge and yet you always seem to take his side. Do you think we can even trust him, I'm all for killing other cats but wouldn't Scourge just kill us if we got on his nerves or something?" he asked breathing a little hard since he had to run to catch up with Fire.
"He's my brother so I trust him and that is all you need to know," Rusty meowed narrowing his eyes. He knew that Smudge would probably wonder how he could trust Scourge even if he was his brother but he didn't care. 'Scourge is the only one who understands my desire for revenge,' he thought with a lash of his tail. He did think of Smudge as a friend but to him he thought that family came first and if Smudge didn't prove to be loyal to Bloodclan then he would kill him.
"I'm sorry if I offended you. I don't have siblings and I don't remember my parents so I don't really understand trusting family that you just met but I'll try to understanding your feelings," Smudge meowed glancing over at his friend. Smudge really was sorry that he might have offended his friend even if he was exactly certain what he had done wrong.
"It's okay I understand. Just remember to not question Scourge I don't want to see you dead," Fire meowed the tip of his tail twitching back and forth.
"Understood. I'll hold my tongue around Scourge," Smudge meowed.
"Good," Fire meowed falling silent as they reached the alley. He was about to go off to his bed when he saw Scourge walking towards them. 'I hope none of the others heard us talking about our leader and reported it to Scourge,' he thought as he watched their leader approach. "What can I do for you?" he asked the smaller tom dipping his head. "Every cat who is a member of Bloodclan is here because they know how to survive and we'll show any intruder that we know how to survive," he snarled pleased to see that he had every cats attention.
"I think its time that we tell the rest of the clan that you're my half brother," Scourge meowed.
"Wait no one else knows you two are related?" Smudge asked looking bewildered.
"No, we wanted to wait to tell them," Fire meowed answering his friends question before Scourge could. "Are you sure about this?" he asked his half brother turning his green gaze onto his brother.
"Yes, I'm sure I am proud to call you my brother and the other cats might not be so hostile towards you and you're friend if they know we're related. And I also want to let the cats know the real reason I let you into my personal guard I don't usually give such and honor to new members of the clan," Scourge growled.
"Okay than lets tell them hopefully they won't start a riot," Fire meowed.
"I doubt they will they know what I'll do with them if they rebel against me," Scourge hissed. Then he headed towards the dumpster he used to call meetings and beckoned Fire to join him. When Smudge went to jump up with them he bared his teeth. "You stay down there," he snarled his icy-gaze raking the black-and-white tom.
Fire watched Smudge for a minute before turning his attention to his half brother. He was now ready to let the rest of Bloodclan know that him and Scourge were half brother and he told his brother this.
"Okay, I'll call a meeting," Scourge meowed dipping his head to his brother before facing the alley once more. Then he called the clan to him so that they could start the meeting.
Fire watched as all the cats of Bloodclan began to gather. He watched as Bone took up a position right next to the dumpter and he dipped his head to the large black-and-white tom. 'I wonder how the others will re-act when they find out that mean and Scourge are half brothers,' he thought pleased when he noticed that the last cat of Bloodclan had just joined the crowd.
Scourge waited until all of Bloodclan had gathered before starting his announcement. "Cats of Bloodclan I have no completely been honest with you about why I took in Fire and Smudge. I know you think we take an to many outsiders but we need all the cats we can get to be able to protect us against any cat who dares to challenge us," he hissed. "Now to get on to what I really called this meeting about. The reason I was so quick to accept Fire into Bloodclan and make him my personal guard was because he is my half brother though of course I didn't know this at first until I asked him a few questions and as for Smudge he only got into Bloodclan because Fire told me he would make a great warrior of Bloodclan," Scourge meowed.
