Disclaimer: I do not own anything but Sophie and the Pikes :)
They could barely see through the awful whiteout that had consumed them. Sophie had almost gotten blown away a few times so now she was tucked tightly into Jim's side as the three of them stood on top of a small ridge that over looked the Starfleet outpost.
"Finally." Sophie whispered after what had seemed like days of walking which in reality had only been a few hours.
After another 45 minutes the three finally made it to the outpost and inside the doors, which Jim closed tightly behind them, before all they heard was silence.
"Hello?" Jim called down the long corridor that they had stepped into while Sophie took off her hood like the men had done.
There was a clanking noise from the sound a tool dropping before they saw a small person moving towards them, coming down the hallway. As the person came to stop in front of them they noticed it was not a human but some sort of creature. The creature took off his goggles before motioning them to follow him. The four then started down the long corridor then turned into another door, which opened up into a large room full of equipment. Sophie was walking a little behind the men as she examined the room taking it all. She was too engrossed in looking at the room to notice they had stopped causing her to run straight into Jim, as they almost fell over.
"Sophie." Jim said laughing a little as they stood up, balancing together.
"Sorry." She replied laughing before looking at the man who was sleeping in the chair in front of them as the creature hit the man making him wake up.
"What?" the man said pulling the cloth off his eyes before the creature pointed at them. "You do realize how unacceptable this is."
"Fascinating." Spock Prime said.
"What?" Jim and Sophie said together confused.
"I'm sure it's not your fault but could you not have come a wee bit sooner?!" the man replied. "Six months I've been living on nothing but Starfleet Protein Nibs and the promise of a good meal! It's pretty clear what's going on here, isn't it? Punishment! On going! For something that was clearly an accident!"
"You are Montgomery Scott." Spock Prime stated.
"You know him?" Jim asked Spock Prime.
"Of course he knows him Jim. He knows everyone." Sophie said rolling her eyes.
"Yes, that's me, Scotty, you're in the right place are there any other hard working and equally-starving Starfleet officers around?" Scotty said.
"Me." The creature said.
"Keenser! Shut up" Scotty replied to the creature, who's name they now know is Keenser. "You don't eat anything. You like a bean and your done. I'm talking about food, real food. You're here now so thank you. Where is it?"
"You are in fact the Mr. Scott who postulated the theory of trans-warp beaming." Spock Prime asked.
"Yes! That's exactly what I'm talking about! How d'ya think I ended up here? I got into a debate with my instructor on the issue of Relativistic Physics as they pertain to subspace travel... He seemed to think that the range of transporting say, a grape fruit, was limited to a few hundred miles, so I told my instructor I could not only beam a beagle from one planet to an adjacent planet in the same system…, which is no big deal anyway… but if I were so inclined I could actually do it with a life form! So I tested it on Admiral Archer's prize beagle. Which... was a mistake."
"I know that dog." Jim stated.
"Me too. What happened to it?" Sophie asked genuinely curious.
"I'll…" Scotty started before doing a double take on Sophie as he took her in, well until Jim noticed and slipped his arm around her waist. "tell ya when it reappears. I don't know, I do feel guilty about that."
"What if I told you your trans-warp theory was correct? That it is indeed possible to beam onto a ship that is traveling at warp speed." Spock Prime told him.
"If that had been invented I'd have heard about it." Scotty replied.
"The reason you haven't heard of it, Mr. Scott... is because you haven't discovered it yet."
"I um…" Scotty said severely confused. "Are you from the future or something?
"He is." Jim replied motioning to Spock Prime. "We aren't."
"Well that's brilliant. Do they still have sandwiches there?" Scotty asked.
"If would allow us access to your shuttle, I will show you what you did." Spock Prime replied.
"Um…ok. Right this way." Scotty said showing them to his shuttle. "And what might your name be lass?"
"Sophie Pace." She replied before pointing to Jim. "And his is Jim Kirk."
"Nice to meet you both. You can call me Scotty if you'd like." He replied after shaking both of their hands as they arrived at the shuttle inside the post. "She's a wee bit dodgy: shield emitters are totally banjaxed, along wi' a few other things. On you go. So Enterprise is on it's maiden voyage, she is one well endowed lady, I'd like to get my hands on her amplema cells if you pardon the engineering humor."
Sophie laughed at Scotty as they all climbed on board of the shuttle. Spock Prime headed for a computer on the other side of the shuttle with Scotty as Jim and Sophie stayed near the entrance with Keenser who was sitting on top of something.
"You think he can actually do this?" Sophie asked Jim a little worried.
"I hope so." He replied. "Don't worry, you aren't going out of my sight."
"Oh that makes me feel so much better Jim." Sophie teased him as Spock Prime came over.
"You are coming with us right?" Jim asked him.
"No Jim that is not my destiny." He replied.
"You're des…the other…the other Spock is not going to believe me. Only you can explain what the hell is happening." Said Jim trying to convince him to come with them.
"Under no circumstances can he be made aware of my existence. You must promise me this. The both of you." Spock Prime told Jim and Sophie who stood a little behind him.
"You mean I can't tell you, that I'm following your own orders? Why not? What happens?!" Jim demanded to know.
"Jim this is one rule you can not break. To stop Nero, you alone must take command of your ship."
"And how? Over your dead body?" Jim asked.
"Preferably not." Spock Prime replied, "However this is Starfleet regulation 619. 619 states that any commanding officer who is emotionally compromised by the mission at hand...must resign said command."
"So your saying we have to emotionally compromise you?" Sophie said trying to understand the Vulcan.
"I just lost my planet. I can tell you, I am emotionally compromised. What you must do Jim is get me to show it."
"Aye then laddie and lass, let's get this over with." Scotty said joining them.
Jim stared at Spock Prime for a moment before taking Sophie's hand and pulling her into the other transporter pad with him while Scotty was in the other alone. Jim wrapped his arms around her waist as she did the same to him before he leaned forward a little to speak to Spock Prime one last time.
"Coming back in time, changing history…that's cheating." Jim said while Sophie smiled.
"A trick I learned from an old friend." Spock Prime replied nodding. He turned around to punch in a few things before turning back around and saying, "Live long and prosper."
Sophie held on tight to Jim as she felt herself being transported through space. A Few seconds later her and Jim appeared in the engineering bay of the ship, on their feet.
"We're back!" Sophie exclaimed looking up at Jim who smiled down at her.
"Mr. Scott!" Jim called trying to find him.
"Scotty?" Sophie yelled after no answer from him, but then suddenly they heard a clanking noise from the large metal tank behind them. "Oh no."
"Mr. Scott!" Jim yelled to the metal tank. "Can you hear me?!"
More banging came from the tank before they hear a swooshing noise and see Scotty in the translucent pipe that was filled with water. Both Sophie and Jim run to the pipe trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
"Um…wait a second!" Jim yelled as Scotty took off in the current that was in the tubs carrying him.
Both Sophie and Jim took off after Scotty, twisting and turning through the maze of pipes. Sophie shed her coat as she went ahead of Jim, trying to figure a way to get him out, leaving her in her black snow pants and blue top from before and boots. Jim had also shed his coat on the ground as he was running next to Scotty.
"Oh shit." Sophie muttered to herself when she saw water turbine with blades and everything. "JIM!"
Jim stopped next to her and looked to where she was pointing and cursed loudly before seeing the panel, which could help them. Jim rushes over with Sophie and quickly accesses the panel hitting a few buttons and having the computer say: RELEASE VALVE CONTROL.
They watch as Scotty falls through the opening onto the floor and the opening closes again. He's soaking wet and breathing hard as they came to kneel down next to him.
"You alright?" Sophie said as Jim shook him. "You ok?"
"My head's buzz and I'm soaked but otherwise I'm fine." He replied, making Jim and her sigh and relief.
"Come on." Jim said smiling as the three of them got up and ran.
The three of them ran through the engineering bay for no more than a minute before hearing the red alert sound.
"Jim I think they know!" Sophie yelled over the noise.
"I know I know!" he yelled back grabbing her hand and leading her up and down stairs and bridges with Scotty right behind them before heading on a straight away and seeing the security teams closing in on them from both sides. Scotty puts his hands up while Jim looks around and Sophie stands behind Jim, between him and Scotty.
"Come with me…Cupcake." One of them says, who Sophie recognizes from the bar 3 years ago.
"Good one Jim." She mutters.
