"Obviously Ciel and Sebastian are in love." She said as she turned to run off into the forest that was nearby.

Ciel turned to face her before realizing she was gone. He turned to Sebastian, who, if Ciel didn't know any better, seemed in shock.

But Sebastian didn't look at him. So Ciel slapped him across the face as hard as he could.

Sebastian flew quite a ways, which made Ciel realize that Sebastian was certainly in shock.

"Sebastian, we'll be leaving. I'll give her another year to figure out whatever the hell is going on with her emotions." He said calmly.

"Ah, yes, my Lord." Sebastian said with a slight bow.

And suddenly, they were gone.

Now…

"MAKA!" Soul yelled after her.

She had charged straight into the forest area after Elizabeth.

"MAKA! Come back here! At least let me come with you!" He called out again, but Maka needed to talk to Elizabeth alone.

Maka stopped and hid behind a tree as Soul was starting to get closer to her. She hid her breath as much as she could as Soul passed her. He looked around in that area for a bit, then decided that since Maka was both a weapon and a meister that she'd be alright until they got to her. He sighed and turned around.

"Maka, just do what you have to do. Call for us if you need anything. We'll be waiting out front of the estate." Soul yelled as he went away. He was soon out of her sight.

Maka let out a breath and continued after Elizabeth. After a while of cycling between running and jogging, she heard faint crying. She slowed to a walk and looked up and around each and every tree. When she noticed blond hair in a high branch, she climbed the tall pine tree until she was a few branches away from her.

"It's a nice view." Maka said as she swung her feet over the branch and put crossed her arms over one almost directly about it. It was spaced just enough for her to lean forward slightly on the upper branch and still be comfortable sitting on the other.

Elizabeth drew her sword in surprise and pointed it at Maka.

"Relax; I only want to talk to you about what happened." Maka said carefully.

Elizabeth studied Maka for a moment and threw her sword to a nearby tree. The end stuck perfectly to the bark.

"If you try something, that might happen to you." Elizabeth said hoarsely.

Maka nodded understandingly. "I'm Maka Albarn." She held her hand up to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth hesitated, but eventually took her hand and shook it. "I'm Elizabeth Midford."

"The Elizabeth Midford?!" Maka exclaimed in recognition. Maka knew who she was of course from the briefing of the mission. They didn't think they'd need to know all that much about Elizabeth, until now. They didn't even know that she was the Elizabeth Midford, the one that could fence better than anyone in the universe, besides maybe her other family member.

"Yes." Elizabeth nodded before looking back to the tree with the sword in it.

"You helped destroy those walking corpses, right?"

She nodded. "I protected Ciel. There was a time where he couldn't even protect himself, let alone me, although it was what he always wanted to do. My family destroyed them." Elizabeth muttered something to herself.

"Hm?" Maka asked.

Elizabeth sighed and looked back to Maka. "Why am I telling you all this stuff?"

"You can trust me. I don't want to hurt you guys. We just want nobody to get hurt. This is why I am here." Maka looked her in the eyes to try to show her how honest she was.

Elizabeth looked into her eyes for a moment, studying her. Once she was satisfied she could trust her, she sighed. "I really believed he loved me."

Maka nodded and climbed up to the branch Elizabeth was on and sat beside her.

Elizabeth eyed her, and then looked to the ground. It seemed so far away. "I must have been this high before the fall."

"Excuse me?" Maka asked. She wrinkled her nose a little, not quite sure what she meant.

"When I fell for his act. For his big game." Elizabeth's eyes started getting watery. Maka nodded, understanding what she meant. "He told me he loved me. But it was a lie."

"What exactly happened?"

"His parents got murdered on his tenth birthday. We all thought that he died too because he disappeared. He was a victim of a cult. Then he called for a demon to make a contract with, which was Sebastian. Sebastian murdered everyone in the cult. Ciel has to wear an eye patch to hide his contract sign. You probably know of his status as 'The Queen's Watchdog.'" Maka nodded.

"Since I am of noble standing and belong to a very famous family as well, he was my betrothed. Ciel spent all of his time away. My goal in life was to make him smile. He never did have a true smile until I told him that I loved him too.

"He had sent me a letter to tell me to meet him. So I did, then he told me…" She sniffled a bit then carried on. "So I decided to become a demon… all for him."

She burst into tears, pulling out a handkerchief and crying into it.

Maka understood how Elizabeth would do that for him. Maka wasn't sure what exactly she would do for Soul if it ever came down to it, but she knew it would be something like this.

Maka wanted to comfort Elizabeth, but she felt as if it would be awkward, especially since they are enemies.

"Elizabeth…" Maka begun, but still didn't know what to say. She knew that she shouldn't say 'It'll be alright' because it could be a lie.

So instead Maka pulled her into an awkward hug, which Elizabeth gratefully accepted.

She cried on Maka's shoulder for a long time. Maka only noticed because soon it was getting very dark.

"Elizabeth, you should come with us." Maka said.

Elizabeth jumped back. "No! William T. Spears, Grell, Ronald, you, and everyone else will have to kill me!"

"They'll definitely make an exception for you. I promise that if one of us ever does that, I will allow for you to kill me." She gave a reassuring smile.

Elizabeth was silent again. She looked at the sword stuck in the tree. She looked at the stars that were beginning to peek from the dark.

"Maka?" Somebody from outside the forest called. It was silent for another moment.

"You know, bravery is an amazing thing." Maka said as she leapt down to a branch about ten feet lower than their branch.

Elizabeth looked her in the eyes.

"I can see you have a great amount of it. Maybe you can use just that little bit you have left over from all of this. Take this opportunity and maybe you won't be chased by any of us. I will help you get through this." Maka smiled up at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth kept sitting, so Maka turned and hopped to the ground and walked toward the voices calling her name.

It was no longer than ten seconds later when Maka heard Elizabeth hit the ground.

Soul was grinning when he saw Maka walk out of the forest with Elizabeth right behind her.

Maka smiled at the group of people, and Elizabeth was looking nervously at them. She was almost cowering behind Maka.

"Maka Albarn…" Will said before taking a few steps out in front of the group. "Just what do we have here?"

"I want to join your side." Elizabeth said carefully. "I always believed in doing the right thing."

"Then why did you become a demon?" Black*Star asked, in his usual big gestures.

"Because I'm in love."

Black Star scoffed in reply.

"Ever been in love, Black*Star?"

Black*Star was instantly quiet, which made everyone think the same thing; was Black*Star in love?

"Love makes people do stupid things, I'm sure everybody here knows that. Even if it's just a friendship type of love, you would protect the others until your final breath." Elizabeth glanced at Crona, who was sitting beside Death The Kid, who was on the verge of becoming conscious.

"Elizabeth Midford, you are a demon, no matter what your intentions. We are to eliminate you. Why would we put aside the fact that you devour human souls?" Will said as he pushed his glasses up with his Scythe. Maka marked this as one of his habits.

"You see, I can survive without human souls. I could go on a sort of… diet… as you all would say. Instead, I could not eat at all, or have animal souls. You do not collect animal souls, correct?" Elizabeth said evenly, but she took a small step backwards, putting her even more behind Maka than she was before.

"True. This is a special case, so I will have to check with it at the Shinigami Dispatch Society."

"Oh… Okay…" Elizabeth said slowly.

Maka smiled and pulled Elizabeth up beside her. "It'll be fine."

Elizabeth's mouth curled up into a nervous smile.

"Let's get going back to the Shinigami Dispatch Society then."

"AWEEEEEEEE!"Elizabeth exclaimed. "How cute~!"

Grell posed in yet another red dress.

Elizabeth clapped her hands twice. "Yes! This will do for the ball! Maybe if it was pink-"

"Lizzy!" Grell pouted. "Don't put me in another dull dress!"

"Another dull dress?" She questioned. "Oh yes! You were…" She narrowed her eyes at Grell.

"Hm?"

"You murdered Madam Red!" She yelled as she stood up from her chair. Everyone's attention that had been focused on working turned to the two of them. The DWMA students looked with surprise at the scene, while the Dispatch Society workers had shame written all over their faces. "And don't you, of all people, call me Lizzy!"

"But I thought you always liked being called-" Grell was interrupted with a loud slap across his face.

Elizabeth backed away and left the room as Grell overdramatically wailed and flung himself towards William T. Spears. Maka cleared out after Elizabeth, running to try and comfort her

"Will~! Did you see what that girl just did?!" He yelped as he opened his arms to try to embrace him.

"Yes, I did." Will said as he hit Grell down to the ground with his Scythe. "And I approve of her actions."

"Will~!" He screeched in pure surprise.

"You killed a human being that was not meant to die then. You interacted with humans and changed fate. Maybe if you did not interact with this… Madam Red… She would not have killed any innocent lives at all."

"But we only chose women that use abortion! We both dreamed of having children all our lives, and suddenly there are women that do not want to have any so much that they get a surgery to remove them from inside them!" Grell said overdramatically, kneeling before Will in a pleading position.

People had been slowly leaving, and now it was only William and Grell.

"That is no excuse. We are the Shinigami Dispatch Society. Death Gods! Grim Reapers. We do not do any of the killing. We harvest the souls, and if you cannot grow up I will kill you and make it look like Sebastian Michaelis had done it, putting you two lovebirds-"He spat it out like it was poisoning him. "In the grave!"

"Will…" Grell looked truly sad and distressed.

"What is your reasoning now, Grell?" William sighed.

"Nothing!" Grell stood up and walked away, pretending to be his normal happy self. "I expect punishment William~!"

The door closed, and the room was silent. William could tell something was very, very wrong with Grell.

I shall try to make chapters remain this long as a minimum, now that I have rising action :D Or do you guys like having only a little to feed off of at once? Bigger is better though! :D Anyway, please review, and if you like it, please follow or favorite.
