Breath

Rose was still grumbling about the snowball that I was able to lodge into her hair. But Alice and I were giggling and Emmet's laugh was booming right along with us.

As we entered into the cafeteria, my laugh faltered. Alice looked at me but her face did not reflect the concern that was clearly on my face.

"Don't worry." she patted my arm. "Nothing is going to happen at lunch. Of that I am sure."

Sighing I grabbed a tray and loaded up with props. I barely looked at the food I was getting trying not to gag. How could the humans eat this. It didn't even look appetizing. A piece of cardboard covered in grease; yum!

As I turned toward our table I tried to stay calm but my eyes were searching the room for the bronze haired boy. He wasn't in the building yet, I could feel the tension in my body as I sat. Alice could tell too because she nudged Jasper and a small wave of calm washed toward me.

"Jasper." I hissed. He just looked at me and shrugged. The calm still hanging over me. I hated to rely on it, but it was nice to rest in the emotions he was projecting onto me.

"Edward will be coming in soon and in 2 minutes 13 seconds he will look over here. Everyone needs to act normal." she had a wicked glint in her eye and I knew she was planning something, but I was too worried. I took a deep breath and held it in. His scent probably wouldn't even reach me, but I wasn't going to take any chances. After a moment Alice gave us all meaningful looks and we all shifted, getting ready. I was trying not to look in his direction when a slush ball hit me scare in the nose. I looked over at Alice in surprise. She was looking away innocently, too innocent.

I wasn't sure how I was going to get her back when a piece of the slush dripped from my nose to hit my tray with a splat. This in turn splashed a small amount of slushy water onto Rose's shirt bringing out a growl from her.

Emmett laughed, his loud voice carrying through the lunchroom. He started shaking his hair in Rose and I's direction, shaking the leftover moisture from the fight outside.

"Stop it Emm!" She complained "Your ruining my outfit!"

I tried not to smile but I ended up laughing too, trying to block the droplets flying all over the place.

"Good!" Alice smiled. She wore her self satisfied smile she only wore when she got what she wanted and I knew she had planned this whole thing.

I took whatever was left of the sludge and threw it toward her, but she already knew it was coming and shifted out of the way.

I stuck my tongue out at her. "Sometimes your just no fun."

"Well you know that's just not true." We all laughed. The tension was gone and we went on pretending to eat.

Once lunch was over and we all started getting up, I felt the tension roll back into by body. My siblings were staring at me, trying to gauge me.

I just nodded, firm, and walked toward the exit. They all followed behind me. Just as we stepped outside, I turned on them.

"Please, just let me do this alone." I looked at each one for a small moment, letting them decide. Each one nodded to me and walked off to their own classes leaving me alone. I sighed.

Closing my eyes for one moment I allowed myself a moment; I raised my head up toward the rain and let the clean water wash my face. Then, resolutely, I turned toward my next class. Right before I entered the classroom, I took a long deep breath.
