Chapter 10

"And that's a scary thought. And not just because I hate it when he's right." Kevin told Gwen.

"So, what if this loony isn't so loony? What if the chips weren't dead?" Kevin asked Gwen.

"Like, some kind of species of insects, that can remain dormant for decades." Kevin told Gwen causing Gwen to look at him in pure shock.

"I learned that from watching The Science Channel." Kevin explained to Gwen.

"Your depth of knowledge astounds." Gwen told Kevin before a computer voice filled the air.

"Now commencing thermal and spatial analysis of all targets." the computer voice told the group.

"Have any luck getting a trace on their energy signature?" Gwen curiously asked Kevin.

"Your wish was my...headache inducing project." Kevin told Gwen before he began to type on the keyboard once more causing a computer voice to fill the air once more.

"Targets identified. Absolute locations displayed in a radial curve, commencing at 38 degrees latitude." the computer voice then told the group causing Gwen, Kevin to look at the nearby holo map whiched showed a map of the United States.

"The chips are showing up in a 100-mile radius." Kevin told Gwen as he looked at the holo map.

"96 degrees longitude." the computer voice then told the group.

"Kevin! You did it!" Gwen happily told Kevin before she hugged her cousin-in-law causing Kevin to pout.

"A hug from my cousin-in-law? I find all the big bad alien chips, and all I get is a hug from my cousin-in-law?" Kevin asked the girl.

"The greatest concentration of chips is clustered here." the red head told the group as an image of the Ship-It Distribution center appeared on the holo map.

"It'll take only an hour to get there." Gwen told Kevin.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Gwen curiously asked Kevin.

"That we're going against orders and are no better than Ben." Kevin told Gwen.

"You had to mention it." Gwen scoffed before she began to type on the keyboard once more causing a computer voice to fill the air once more.

"Destination at absolute distance of 49. 87 miles from Bellwood." the computer voice told the group.

+Ship-It distribution center, Earth, an hour later+

As the stars shined in the sky, Kevin knocked down the door to the entrance of the the Ship-It distribution center.

"Come on, it's open." Kevin told Gwen before he led Gwen into the building.

"It's open, huh?" Gwen asked her cousin-in-law as she looked between him and the damaged door.

"It's open now." Kevin then told Gwen as they walked into the large room and then looked around with their flashlights while C.P. listened for any strange noises as he looked around as well.

"Remind me why we came all the way out here again?" Kevin asked Gwen as they looked around the empty room before Gwen led him deeper into the empty room until she used her mana to scan the room.

"They were here, Kev. We're too late." Gwen told him before she walked deeper into the room once more causing Kevin to follow her deeper and deeper into the room.

"Man, there's, like, nothing here anymore." Kevin told Gwen as they looked around some type of office.

"There's something." Gwen told Kevin.

"Let's check it out." Gwen then told Kevin before she led the boys into a large office and then began to search for clues causing Kevin to do the same until Gwen and Kevin came across some paperwork.

"London, Paris, Shanghai, Japan. These orders originated from this location, and they're headed all over the world. Literally." Gwen began to explain causing Kevin to look at her.

"Air, sea, by every means, they have." Gwen then explained to Kevin.

"Must be thousands of crate orders. Maybe 100,000." Kevin explained Gwen as he looked through a box of papers.

"Kevin, what do you think it means?" Gwen asked Kevin.

"It means we're at least one step behind something disturbingly huge." Kevin told Gwen.

"May I help you?" a strange man asked them causing Gwen and Kevin to turn around.

"Um, hi, we just had a few questions." Gwen nervously told the man.

"Ship-It is closed right now. Please return during regular business hours." the man told them.

"And what are you doing here in the dark?" Gwen asked the man.

"We are workers. We live to obey." the man told them.

"Well, you must be employee of the month." Kevin sarcasticly told the man causing him to look at Kevin.

"Look, Mister, we just need to take some of these documents for a little school project." Gwen told the man as she walked over to him.

"I'll bring 'em right back after we turn in our report. Okay?" Gwen then told and then asked the man as he smiled at her just as Kevin walked over to Gwen.

"No, you will remain. You will join us." the man told the group.
