9. Cruel Punishment
Previously on "Daughter of The Sea"...
"If I were you, I would stay frozen, Bluey" that voice. It can't be!
Gnomeo's POV
That voice gave me chills down my spine. I knew that voice all too well. I felt the gun pushing harder to my neck, but I didn't panic but sadly, I can't move or I'll be die. I could care less if I die, all I care of Juliet and my family. Plus, everyone will know it was him who killed me because I knew Mercky from our past, he's not as sneaky as me in hiding evidence.
"What do you want, Mercutio?" I manage to say, with anger in my tone.
He chuckles mischief "You already know what I want, Gnomy. Something that is Red that not only has the ultimate power but has a really lovely face and body"
Gnomeo got furious and punch Mercutio in the face with his fist but Mercutio thought fast and knock him out by hitting him with his gun. Gnomeo feel to the ground, unconscious.
Mercutio kneel to the ground, looking at him "Oh, Gnomy, just like old times, eh? But this time, I'm the one who's getting the girl" he snickers.
For the next few hours, Mercutio's pirates picks up Gnomeo, struggling with his unconscious body. But Gnomeo was starting to wake up but he was still a little weak. Mercutio takes him to a dark alley that was near the gardening center, where nobody could hear their "conversation". He sets him down, taking advantage that he was still weak; Mercutio ties him up, hands and feet, having fun with all of this. He waited until he finally woke up, grinning angrily toward him.
"Hey, buddy. How's it going?"
"I can see that you did me that favour of tying me up"
"You have no idea how long I waited this moment, Blueberry"
"What happened to you, Mercky? We used to be best friends; we did everything together with Benny. And now, look at what you've become"
"You know it would be so easy to kill you right now"
"Go ahead, kill me now!"
"Nah, Tell you what? I'm not going to kill you... yet. Wanna know why? Because I want you to suffer, I want you to go through what I went through after that day"
"What happened that day wasn't my fault. I never chose for any of that to happened, Mercky!"
"But you didn't do anything to prevent it from happening. You didn't do anything to help me; you just stood there and watched how they took me away"
"We were just kids back then; I couldn't do anything for you"
"That's no excuse! You could have defended me. But now that you're under my control, you're probably regretting that, aren't you? And do you know what else you should be regretting?"
"What?"
"Marrying the girl I always been in love with"
"Ok, now you crossed the line!" Gnomeo gets up on his feet, intending to charge at him but Mercutio thinks fast by pointing his gun at him, surprising Gnomeo.
"Eh, eh, eh, eh, sit down or I'll shoot you. So, sit back down"
But Gnomeo doesn't listen "Juliet was never meant to be yours! She chose me! She loves me!"
"And yours? You think you deserve her? You think you're worthy of her? What can you offer her while I can give her all the power and riches in the world!"
"She'll never care about what you can give her because I already gave her what she needs and want. Love, freedom, respect and happiness. She's my wife, the mother of my child. Even if you kill me, she'll always love me"
"Don't be so sure about that, Bluey. Oh, and that's another thing that furies me about you too because your child should have been mine"
"Mimi is my daughter! And you don't know Juliet like I do. Because she has something, you'll never have and that's a pure soul while you're is rotten to the core"
"You're wrong, Gnomy, because I knew about her first during that time of that stupid feud, you just didn't know that. Meaning, she should have been mine all this time but I never got the chance by your stupid feud! But not only that, she had the mermaid Queen herself to keep her away from me, to not let me come near her or even look at her! I feel everything was against be with her back then"
"Because she is special and they didn't want her to ruin her future, her power and her purpose"
"I admit I was a bit pushy with her back then when I demanded her to give me the star, I was desperate for power, I admit but mostly because I wanted her. You should have seen her when we were kids, so stunning, so beautiful, she was literally the fish out of water and that's what made me fall for her at first sight. You would know something like that, would you, Gnomy?"
"I would but my situation is not sick like yours. Mine is sane and filled with love"
"And what do you know about love?! Because as I recall when we were friends, you always thought love was a weakness, it was the death of all joy and freedom; it was something you would never feel"
"I was wrong and I don't regret meeting, loving & marrying Juliet! And II don't care your past with her because her present and future is with me!"
"THAT'S IT! I've had it with you! You've always been like this and it's what make me hate you in the first place! You always had everything I wanted! The glory, the attention, the adoring fans, the star of the garden! But not her! You will not take away her away from me again! NOT HER! SHE'S MINE!"
"STAY AWAY FROM HER, BASTARD!"
Mercutio laughs again "Oh, Gnomy, I can't do that cause once you're out of the picture, I will be the first and only candidate to knock on her door"
Gnomeo gets up on his feet, rolling his fists and angry. "SHE'S NEVER BE YOURS! You know why because she will always chose me a million times! Even if you kill me, she'll always love me and nothing or nobody can change that. Our love is stronger than any hate"
"Wow, your words touched me, Gnomey. They really have but who needs love when you have money? And once you're out of the way, I'm gonna make her my Queen like I've should have done years ago"
"What? You're going to kill me? Go ahead. I dare you"
"Don't provoke me, Blue boy. With one pull of this trigger I have send you to the next world"
"And what are you waiting for? Do it already!"
"No. Killing you would be too easy"
"Then what are you gonna do?"
"I want you to suffer. To suffer the same pain I did all those years"
"You're going to throw me in the trash?"
"No, not that kind of past pain. The past pain I felt with my Juliet"
"STOP SAYING THAT! SHE'S MINE!"
"Then we'll see about that when I'm done with you. GET UP!"
"What?"
"You deaf?! I said get up! This is between you and me. Gnome to gnome. And my prize is revenge and that Red gem"
"You gonna keep me tied up or fight like real men, coward"
"Gnomy, I'm many things you say but a coward is not one of them"
"Then untie me so we can settle this once and for all"
"Alright, take your pick"
"What? You gonna shoot me from the back? You afraid to get your hands dirty?"
"I don't need a gun to take you down. Plus, shooting you from the back would be cowardly and like I said, I am not a coward. But I do wanna watch you bleed" Mercutio glares, playing with his sword.
"Then come at me, devil"
Merctio finally retrieves his sword from Gnomeo's chest as they face each other with anger and hate. With a tease on his face, Mercutio tosses a sword to Gnomeo, wanting to fight. And it began! The men started a sword fight to the death, blocking every move with the blades. Gnomeo puts all of his anger into it, using all of his strength to kill him but Gnómeo's sword skills were impressive to defeat. They swing their swords at each other. But Mercutio played dirty by kicking Gnomeo in the gut, making him lose his balance and focuse.
"Lights out for you, Bluey"
And with that, Mercutio used his gun to hit his ex-friend hard in the head. Gnomeo was out cold on the ground. He almost looked dead. He was uncoiuncious for now but with a hit like that in the head was enough to slowly kill him.
Mercutio grin down in pride of what he's done. Finally, he got rid of the main person who's brought him nothing but misery and disgraces. He whistles to his men.
"Take him and throw his down the river. You 2 go get what I asked you to do while I go tell the Little Red Riding Hood she just became a widow" Mercutio smirk evilly, walking away as his men did what they were told, taking away Gnomeo's dead body.
(Back at the gardens)
Juliet's POV
Everything was peaceful especially when you have your friends and next door neighbours to hang out with. Jazmin came to visit her best friend and brought her kids, Scarlett, Fussia, Benzin and Bennie and they started playing with Mimi. I see them playing close to the pond with lily pads. Probably trying to fish out some frogs and fishies again.
"I just love seeing them play together" I smiled.
"Me too" Jazmin said, next to me.
"Thanks for bringing your kids, Mimi gets kind of lonely sometimes"
"No problem. It's always good for my kids to play with their cousin. But tell me what's really on your mind, Little Red?"
"What do you mean?"
"You know. What's with the face?"
"What face?"
"That face" she points
"There's no face. This is my face that's all"
"Oh come on, Jules. I know you far too well to hide anything from me"
"UGH! I hate it when you use your super spy powers on me like that" That's always so annoying of her.
"It's what I do. So spill it. What's eating you?"
I exhale "I don't know. I have this feeling. This knot in my throat that something bad is gonna happen soon"
"You mean because of Mercutio, right?"
"Yeah. I feel he's not gone; he's just hiding and waiting the right moment to come back and give his new strike which probably involve me getting kidnapped or killed again"
"Don't worry about that. I have the entire agency looking for him. You guys are safe from that maniac. Plus, if he ever does come near you, he won't know what hit him. Don't forget you were a temporary agent back then which by the way, the Chief misses you and wants you back"
"Tell her thanks but no thanks, I got my own problems already. I need to find my godmother to help. She's the only one who knows about my new powers and how to put Mercutio in his place"
"And where do you think Queen Cordelia is hiding?"
"No idea. You and I both know she hasn't been seen in 15 years & that worries me"
"I'm sure we're gonna find her. She always leaves a clue. Plus, she'll have to come back because... you have the star" she whispers that last part.
"I know but..."
"No buts. You need to calm down and leaves this all to those who are here for you"
"I know and appreciate that but I can't just sit here and do nothing while Mercutio is still out there doing who knows what out there against my family and friends just to get to me!"
"Calm down, girl! You're forgetting one important detail!"
"What?"
"Yu are the Star's guardian. The Queen's protective. You were the strongest and most popular guppy in school. And not trying to sound jealous but you were like the super guppy because you had all our powers in one, plus you're half human and nija"
"Yeah but you're half human too plus spy"
"Yeah but I only have one power, and that's to talk and communicate with dolphins but you, you can talk to all sea animals. You're special, Jules, more than you think"
"Thanks, Jazz. So are you. But still, I have a bad feeling something bad is gonna happen"
"Well, take this just in case" Jazmin pulls out a silver necklace with a charm in the middle.
"A necklace?"
"I know you're not a girl who likes too much jewellery or accessories. But this isn't just a necjlace, there's a tracking chip inside it. And if you ever need any help, just say the code word..."
"Oh, you mean...?"
"SHHH! No, don't say it unless you want an army of secret agents to show up in less than 10.5 seconds, DON'T SAY IT!"
"Ok, ok, I got it. And thanks"
"Now that that part is taken care of, tell me the other half"
"Other half of what?"
"The other half of the reason of why you're still down. Plus, I can tell by the redness and bags under your eyes. You haven't been sleeping, huh?"
"No, guess not"
"Come on, tell Mama Odie all about it, Miss Froggy" Jazmin teases in a 197 year old blind lady voice.
"Only if you stop talking like that" Juliet laughs, giving her a look
"Fine"
Juliet rest herself back "Ok, remember when we were kids, I was locked away in that orphanage because my mother "died" a few days after that"
"Yeah, I remember all those nights I visit you cause you were scared. I even brought you the Star so you can protect it"
"Yeah, that wasn't the best idea cause the director was a b**** and she almost killed my Star"
"But she didn't. Anyways, what's teh reason of remembering that horrible place?"
"I don't want to remember it but I guess that past wants to come back to me"
"What do you mean?"
"I've been getting some strange dreams when I was there. Plus, I was again the other day"
"You went there?"
"No! I just saw it from afar and that's when it happened. I had another one last night, a rather long one in fact"
"You wanna talk about it? It might make you feel better"
"If you don't by listening"
"Like I said, tell Mama Odie about it, child"
"Stop that" she gently punched her friend in the shoulder as she started her story.
(Flashback)
Younger Juliet's POV
Darkness. It's all I saw around me. I was still locked inside the darkness and tallest tower of this scary orphanage. I crawled to a corner, with my knees up to my chest. I cried the entire night and for what? Nobody could hear me up here. Plus, I was too scared to get a good look at it so I just ran away and tried to escape but I was still locked in here. My father was ill lately and I'm here
"Oh, mum. I really need you!" I whimper thru my tears.
Suddenly, a bright white light shined over Juliet's face. She looks up and see an illusion of her mother with her tail. The illusion looked too real to be just in her head. Marina smiled down at her daughter as her magic made all this happens to be there for her even if it is for a little time.
"Don't cry, my love. You've asked for a sign and here I am"
"Oh, mum. I'm really scared. Not for me, but for my Daddy. He's really sick lately and know that we're separated he's going to get worst. And if he dies, I'm gonna die of sadness. I already lost a lot of people in my life, I can't lose him too or then I'll truly be alone"
"No, my love. Your Daddy will be fine. If I know your father, he's a strong as an ox. He's going to get better, you'll see. But I want you to be strong to get thru this test that life has put up for you"
"A test? I don't understand, mummy"
"Yes, sweetheart. This is a test. Like in school they give you test to see if you learned anything, right?"
"Yes"
"Well, this is the same, my love. All the people you love get test. And this is one of them"
"And you think me and my Daddy will pass this test, mum? My Dad's really sick"
"I can't answer that right now, Juliet. But tell me, when I wasn't around, your Daddy has taught you to be strong and brave, right?"
"Yes. But if anything happens to him, I'm gonna die too"
"No, Juliet! If your Daddy did a great job on teaching you how to be strong, you have to be tough in every situation in your life. Never give up hope and never let anybody or anything make you forget the love you have for your Dad. And I'm grateful for everything he has taught you, Juliet. Because you are going to need all your strength and bravery but most of all patience to get out of this place. I'll see you soon, my girl. I love you" Marina blew her a kiss and her illusion started to fade away.
"Mum, wait..!"
But Marina was gone, leaving Juliet alone again. But her mother's moved her to do what. She wiped away her tears but still felt so sad and scared. But that was only temporary cause she needed to be brave and strong for whatever challenge she was gonna face in this horrible place.
I felt the hot sun over me. They just small rays coming from the high bar window but they were still strong with heat. They made me wake up from my uncomfortable ball position since I was still in teh tower as "punishment" from last night. To be honest, I couldn't sleep well, I was worried of what could have been that scary monster I saw in the attic. I screamed and called for help until I finally fell asleep. I had a headaque and my hair probably was messed up.
"Girl..."
There it was again. That ghost voice.
My sleepy tired eyes manage to open wide but before I could look around, the door finally opened and let in the hot morning sunshine which nearly blinded me. I shaded my face with my hand and was able to see who opened that door.
It was the demon woman of Director Carlota.
She approached me a little. She was dressed in her same clothes as yesterday, with bun tied back and with her whip in her hand. I was too tired to glare up at her and I admit, I was scared of her but just this once.
"You think this is enough for you to obey me, you spoiled child?!"
"Yes, Director Carlota" I whimper, afraid
"Well then, are you ready to get out of here?"
"Yes. I want to get out of here. I promise to obey and behave. But get me out of here, please"
Carlota then throws her head back and laughs "I love it when they beg, Very well, move along. Breakfast is being served in 5 minutes"
The evil director gestured the child to follow her out the hallways.
"Listen up, Redbrick. Today we're receiving an important visitor and I will tolerate misbehaving, understood?!"
"Yes, Director Carlota" Juliet shake in fear.
"I want everything to be perfect for our guest. I must impress him at any rate. He just might became our new social partner. So if you even think of doing or saying anything to ruin this visit, I will lock up in that tower tonight and the next nights of this week!"
"Yes, I'll behave, Director"
"You do, don't you? One mistake, no matter how small and insignificant it is, the less you'll never see your father again. EVER!"
"You know something, right? What's wrong with my Daddy?"
"Your father is very ill, but if you behave yourself and you fulfil everything I asked you to do, I may consider letting you go see him once a year or so"
"Really? You'd let me go to see him?"
"All depends on you behaving, child. Very well, now go to the dormitories and get changed. And then go join the others to prepare breakfast and the rest of your chores!"
Carlota grabs her and pushes her forward, almost making her fall to the ground but Juliet got her balance back and ran down the hall to get away from the cruel woman.
(Flashback Ends)
"And then what happens next?" Jazmin asks
"I don't remember. It's been so long but it's all coming back to me in a blur and slowly. It's giving me headaches"
"Hey, don't hurt yourself. Everything has a reason and I'm sure you'll find it"
"Thanks"
"Well, I gotta go, Little Red. I need to drop the kids off to Benny. The Chief just called me for a mission in one of our island facilities. Need to catch the next helicopter with my sisters in 20 minutes"
"Careful with those natives out there"
"Don't worry about it, we're friends with them. Nice people" Jazmin gets up and puts on her leather jacket
"Don't go to near that lava. You might get sunburn"
"Hahaha, funny. I'll see you around, Jules. And remember what I told you"
"Sure thing. Thanks, Jazzy! Bye!" I waved as she left.
I wonder what she said and she was right. But what she didn't know is what was about to happen next.
It was already night time. It was a few hours after Jazmin & her kids left the garden; Juliet was left in charge to spend the entire afternoon with Mimi until he got back. She went to her father's garden so Mimi can go play with her grandparents and uncles for the rest of the evening until it was time for them to go back. As they walk back to their garden, Juliet was starting to wonder where in the world was her husband, even Mimi was wondering by noticing her mother's worried look.
"Mummy, when is Daddy coming back?"
"I don't know, sweetie but very soon I hope"
"I miss him. I want him to play with me"
"I miss him too. He's probably stopped to bring dinner but he's coming soon. Tell you what? While we wait for him. How about I play with you today"
"Only if you buy me an ice cream"
"Oh, you are exactly like your father, huh?" she laugh, kissing her cheek.
Suddenly a large black van came out of nowhere and parked right in front of her garden entrance, blocking her way. Juliet stood there confused, still holding Mimi in her arms. Soon came out to large goon gnomes and pointed guns at her,
"Give me the kid!"
"Who are those guys, mummy?" Mimi asked scared.
"Mimi, I want you to go hide and shut your eyes. I don't want you to see this"
As they continue to point their guns at her, Juliet slowly put Mimi down the ground and lightly pushed her so she can run away and hides, leaving her mother face these dangerous men.
"Cover me!" one goon said to his partner.
Not letting them take her daughter, Juliet pushed the goon away and started fighting him with her Kung-Fu with a fury in her. He swung his fist at her but she quickly dodges it and punched him the guts, she took his arm and twist it behind him, throwing him to the ground. Then she thought faster than him, she pulls out her gun front her back pocket and shoots the gun in the arm, not killing him just hurting him.
"Get out of my garden!" she grunted through her teeth, pointing her gun at them.
"This isn't over, Red!"
"I know you sent you! I know who you work for! Tell your captain he just crossed the line with me! AND HE'S GOING TO REGRTE IT!"
With the little strength in him, the goon got back on his feet and enters the van as it drove away from her garden. Juliet put away her gun back in her pocket and ran to Mimi who was hiding inside a tree, watching everything, scared.
"Mummy!"
"Mimi, my love. Come here, baby"
"Who were those guys, mummy?"
"I'm not sure but forgive me, my love. Forgive me"
"You were awesome, mum!"
"I'm sorry, my love. I'm sorry, you had to see that. But I will never let anything happen to you, not you"
Just then, my parents, my in-laws and some of my friends came. They must have heard the gun shot and the commotion out here. Ouch, That scum hit my arm really hard. He felt my a nasty bruise but nothing I haven't experience before.
"Juliet, darling, what happened!" My mum came to me in panic
"You're bleeding, child!" My Dad was worst
"I'm fine. I'm ok, Dad. It's just a scratch" she winces at the pain (A/N: Oh the irony)
"What happened?" Lord B asked
"It was him. Mercutio tried to make my life miserable again by taking Mimi" I said while holding on to my injured arm.
"WHAT?! How can that devil be so despicable?!" My Dad screamed "HE'S COMPLETELY OUT OF HIS MIND OF KIDNAPPING MY GRADMOTHER!"
"He's out of his head!" Benny steps in
"Mercutio doesn't care about going off limits, guys. He just wants one thing and that's me. He'll stop at nothing to get me" I said with anger and sorrow.
"We need to call the police" my mum says, pulling out her phone.
"Don't bother, mum. They're already long gone. But I'm gonna call Gnomeo right now"
"Where is my son anyway?" Lady B asked, worried as I was.
"He's been gone since this afternoon. I'm afraid something happen to him" I said, scared something might happned to him
"You think Mercutio got to him?" Benny said
"He'd better not or he's going to regret it. Can I ask you guy to babysit Mimi tonight while I straight this out?" Juliet hangs Mimi to her mother
"Don't even say it, my girl. You go do what you do and we'll watch over her. But promise us you'll be careful too" Marina says serious
"I will, don't worry" I said serious
"Night-night, mummy" Mimi waves with her tiny hand.
"Night, princess. Be good and I promise you that I will get your Daddy back" Juliet kisses Mimi's cheek and waves goodbye to everybody.
That night, after putting Mimi to sleep at her parents' garden, Juliet went back to her garden to be alone and think. She knew something like this would happen. She needed to think of something. Maybe she should ask for help, her daughter was in danger maybe both of them but Mimi's safety was more important. Juliet was pacing back and forth, thinking of a solution, while holding the phone to her ear, trying to get in touch with Gnomeo. But nothing.
"Oh, Gnomeo. Where are you when I need you?"
No answer...
"UGH, Gnomeo! Where are you?! When I see you, I'm going to kill you!"
Suddenly, the phone started ringing and she answer in less than milliseconds.
"GNOMEO?!" she answers, happily.
"You wish, princess"
Juliet's smile drops. It was Mercutio's disgusting voice in the other end. Her blood started boiling and scowling with anger. She knew he was behind this, everything.
