sorry it took so long for me to up date I think I'm going to up date every other week at least until school ends OK? I know that in the books Carter sucks at Basketball but he tries so hard i think by junior year he'll be pretty good.
Carter's POV
We only have a week and a half left for our project and A was getting worried about not being able to sing the part low enough. We were still working that out, if I could get her to like me I know that she wouldn't have any problem but I'm not sure that I can get her to, everything she does seem aimed to get me to like her.
Tonight is the first basketball game of the season and I'm really looking forward to it. I asked A today if she would be there, and she gave me this weird look like I had just asked if the sky was green and just left.
Now in the locker room I started changing and talking to Walt who had the locker next to mine.
"Do you think we can beat them?" I ask.
"They're just a just a bunch of prep school kids Carter that doesn't mean they're any better at the game,"
I sigh, we almost always tie NY prep, but our team had a lot of really good players, maybe this year we will be the only team that won every game.
"What are you doing here?" I here Jason ask as the door opens and closes.
"I'm on the basketball team Jason, I thought you knew that," says a very familiar voice, "So unless you have some other that I can't come in and get changed for the game, I would like to come in,"
I turn around and my suppositions were confirmed, A was standing in the door looking indigent.
"Dude, you look like you're going to throw up," Says Walt from beside me, "She's been at every practice, did you think she was on the girl's team?"
All I could do was make a small strangled sound and turned back to my locker to finish changing.
"You did know that I was on your team right?" she says from beside me, "Did you think I just went to practice for kicks,"
I don't really know what I was thinking but it just didn't think that she was on the team.
I just go back to changing and try to ignore her
The Game
A's POV
I am in first with Carter, I play canter and he's power forward.
"Ready for this Kane?" I taunt.
"Just play the game Jackson," he says quietly, "As long as you play well I could care less,"
He sounds convincing but with one glance I can tell he's freaking out on the inside.
The ref blows his whistle and the game starts.
By the end of the first quarter we were up by ten points, and Carter is looking like he is trying to play the game with a bunch of NBA players. More than half of our points were scored by him.
"You ok Carter?" I ask once coach Hedge takes us out.
"How are you so good? We're playing the best team in our league,"
"Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean that I can't be a good ball player," I hiss.
"I didn't mean that it's just-"
"Why don't we talk about this after the game OK?" I say sharply as coach signals that I'm going in next.
After the Game
"You play really well Jackson," says Frank, one of the defenders and Hazels boyfriend.
"You too Zhang," we're on our way to the café after the game. Carter hasn't said a word sense the game ended, but we won so everyone is putting it up to shock or something.
As soon as we get our orders in Carter signals that he wants to talk to me outside.
I follow him and we end up in an ally next to the café, "You didn't think that it would be kind of important to tell me that you we're on the boys' basketball team?"
"Carter you saw me every day at practice, I thought you could put two and two together,"
"We practice with the girls, and you're never in the locker room,"
"I get changed in the bath room because someone is bound to ask why I always where a muscle shirt. Carter, the whole school thinks I'm a guy you know that, you need to remember it too, if you don't you could tell the whole school by accident,"
"A… how have you managed this for twelve years? Never telling anyone who you went out with,"
"I told one person, she didn't care,"
"Who did you tell? How does the whole school not know?" he looked intrigued and worried.
"The whole school doesn't know because she's still my friend,"
"Yeah, but who did you tell,"
"Annabeth," I say looking down.
His jaw dropped, "When did you go out with her? And how did you not die? She's scary,"
"Eight grade, she was my first girlfriend, and she's not that scary, she just doesn't like you,"
"What's not to like?" getting back to himself.
"Ego, big head, jock, not my friend,"
"So she didn't like me because I acted like you but I don't flirt with guys?"
"No she doesn't like you because you flirt with her,"
He laughed, "So if I didn't flirt with her she'd have gone out with me? Is that what you're saying?"
"No, but if you did that and liked her for being her then it's a defiant possibility,"
"And what would it take for you to like me,"
I chuckle, trying to hide my surprise, "I'll tell you that if you tell me what it would take for you to like me,"
"I guess you have a point," he looks really sad like me not telling him is like me shooting an arrow through his heart, "You play really well, where did you learn to play like that?" he asks like we were just two players having a normal conversation after a game.
"My dad used to play with me before he was so busy with being the big boss man,"
"Really I didn't really think that someone in charge of a company would have time to play ball with his kid,"
"It was before he got so big when he was making aquariums for people who wanted a place to put their rare tropical fish, then he started getting offers from big places like zoos and rich people,"
"Wow,"
"Where did you learn to play? Tonight I think you could have beat the Lakers single handedly,"
"My dad got me into the game, but some of the kids at the boarding school my uncle sent me to after he died showed me how to play,"
I want to hug him or kiss him or something, I can tell it hurt him to say that, seriously why do these people trust me!
"Carter why do you guys keep telling me this stuff?"
"What stuff?"
"Personal stuff! Your sister told me that she used to live with your grandparents, and this is the second time that you're mentioned your dad, and that's obviously not something you tell every one,"
"Maybe you're just a trust worthy person,"
"I'm almost more impulsive than you're sister,"
My back is against the wall and Carter takes a step forward so that we're almost touching. He opens his mouth to say something but on impulse I lean forward and kiss him, for a while he just stands there but then he says, "We have to stop kissing in dark allies when one of us isn't expecting it,"
Ha Ha they kissed again! You should tell me what you think and stuff in your reviews. I was reading through my old chapters and I realized that I'm not rereading well enough so sorry about that.
