Dainara and the Queen walked around Bowerstone Industrial wearing hooded robes and trying to blend in with the hundreds of workers that carried boxes from one factory to another to remain unnoticed.
- "We are about to arrive"- said the Queen in a low voice- "We must be careful that no one sees us going in".
As they were getting closer to the Resistance's headquarters, Dainara's heart was beating faster and faster, like it wanted to escape from her chest.
She wished that she could just turn around and go back to the safety of the Castle's room, where she wouldn't have to face reality, where she couldn't hurt him…But looking around her, looking at the sad faces of the workers as they worked tirelessly in the factories made her have the strength to go on. She couldn't allow him to enslave these poor people, not if she could prevent it…
She caressed the golden brooch that was tied to her robe.
- "I must be strong"- she thought- "I must do it for all of you, for the ones who lost their lives and for the ones who will lose them unless we do something".
Queen Nichole stopped walking and looked around.
- "Alright, there's no one around"- she then pointed at same stairs going down the pier- "Go downstairs and open the door you'll find…I'll watch your back just in case someone approaches".
Dainara went downstairs quickly and opened the door, and the Queen joined her shortly.
- "What…is this place?"- asked Dainara looking around with curiosity.
- "These are Bowerstone's sewers. Not the best place to be, but the safest to have clandestine meetings".
Dainara smiled and nodded despite the fact that she didn't know what "sewers" were.
The two women removed their hoods and walked through a long corridor until they reached a door guarded by two bulky men holding weapons. As soon as they saw the Queen, they bowed politely.
- "Thank you for coming, Your Majesty".
Queen Nichole smiled.
- "I wouldn't miss a piece of the action for anything"- she pointed at Dainara- "We were both invited by Page to join you".
The guards nodded and Dainara and the Queen proceeded to the next room, where Page, Ben and other members of the Resistance were waiting for them to arrive.
- "Right on time, Your Majesty"- said Page as soon as she saw them- "I'm glad you both could make it".
- "Well, at least you had good company while you waited"- replied the Queen looking at Ben, feeling a hint of jealousy.
- "And now the company got even better"- said Ben approaching them and smiling happily.
Page sighed.
- "Ok, stop flirting you both…Let's get down to business"- she approached a big table that held a map of Bowerstone- "Come here, everyone! Let's get to work!"
Everyone gathered around the table, looking at Dainara with suspicious looks.
- "Hey! We have an intruder!"- shouted a tall dark-haired man pointing at Dainara.
- "She's not an intruder, Zachary, she's our newest member"- said Page firmly- "Her name is Dainara and she shares our same objectives: destroy Reaver and end his tyranny and exploitation".
Zachary crossed his arms and twisted his mouth, bringing out the scar that crossed his upper lip.
- "And how can you be so sure she's not a spy?"- he asked.
- "Because she's my friend and I trust her"- added the Queen firmly.
Zachary looked at the Queen and nodded, still feeling unsure about Dainara.
- "Well, as you may all know, we are gathered here to decide what to do about the sick workers that Reaver plans to fire from his factories. We can't allow this to happen, these people need the little money they get to buy medicines and feed their families…A lot of lives are at stake here, so we must take immediate action"- she turned to a woman who was wearing some clothes with the logo of Reaver Industries- "Malya, have you managed to find out when will the firings take place?"
- "I'm afraid it will be tomorrow morning"- she replied- "Reaver really doesn't want anyone with as little as a cough in his factories anymore".
Page sighed deeply.
- "We don't have much time left…We need to think of something fast".
- "I could try to find out if there's any Royal Law I can apply to prevent this…But I need some days, I need to check the Archives"- said the Queen.
- "Then we need to create a distraction, something to keep them worried and busy so that the firings can't take place tomorrow"- said Ben firmly.
Page nodded.
- "This is not a bad idea…At least it will buy us some time"- she said- "Do you have anything in mind?"
- "We could bomb something…"- added a tough-looking blond man, prompting everyone to look at him with wide-open eyes- "I mean, not a real bomb, but some explosive that makes a lot of noise and attracts everyone's attention".
- "That would be good, Blaze"- said the Queen- "But we must make sure first that no worker is around, it could be dangerous".
- "I know the perfect place for this"- said Malya suddenly, approaching the map and pointing at a big building- "There's a warehouse on one of the streets that leads out of Bowerstone Industrial that could be used for our plan. It is mainly used to store raw material and some finished products, and there are very few people working there, so we can evacuate them quickly".
- "We must be careful with Reaver too…"- added Page.
- "Do not worry, I don't think he will be there. He has left some of his supervisors in charge of the firings"- replied Malya.
Page crossed her arms and smiled.
- "Very well, then that's what we will do"- she turned to the group- "Blaze, Zachary and Kidd will come with me to evacuate the people and set the explosives. Your Majesty, you and Ben will lead a small group to guard the warehouse and protect the workers".
Everyone seemed so concentrated on the plan that no one had noticed the sadness reflected on Dainara's eyes and the tears that were fighting to roll down her cheeks. She felt once again the choking feeling on her neck, but she was not sure whether her sadness was caused by the horrible things he had done or by the thought of hurting him.
- "Dainara? Are you feeling alright?"
Dainara looked up immediately and forced a smile as Page and the rest looked at her.
- "Yes…Sorry, I got lost in my thoughts".
Page frowned.
- "I was telling you that you will remain by the Queen's side, guarding the warehouse"- she said.
Dainara nodded.
- "Very well".
Page looked at the map and pointed at the street where the warehouse was.
- "Tomorrow, early in the morning, we'll meet there. Now go and rest well, we all need it".
In the meantime, in Lake View Manor, Reaver sat behind his desk, trying to check some of his factories' accounting. He was really making an effort to concentrate on his paperwork, to see that everything was going fine in his industries…but he couldn't. Dainara is all he could think about and her cold attitude towards him was haunting his thoughts. What if she never forgave him? What if he had lost her forever?
- "Damn!"
He threw the documents to the table and sighed deeply.
He felt so annoyed by the fact that her rejection bothered him so much. He was Reaver after all, no woman had ever rejected him…sooner or later, they always surrendered to his charms, and Dainara was not going to be different.
He reached for his pocket and caressed the ring he was still carrying. No…this ring didn't belong to him anymore, he had to forget about it and try to seduce Dainara from the beginning. He should even leave the ring in the locked drawer, where it belonged, like a keepsake from another time and another man…He left the ring in his pocket and opened the wooden cabinet where he stored the wine, finding just an empty bottle.
- "Oh, great…"- he took a little bell from his desk and sounded it loudly- "Could any of you incompetent people bring me a bottle of wine?"
A few minutes later, Mrs. Norrington entered the room, holding a bottle of wine on her hand.
- "Here you are, Master Reaver"- she said, placing the bottle on the desk- "Although I believe that it would be better if you had dinner instead".
- "No one asked for your opinion, Mrs. Norrington"- replied Reaver dryly- "Next time, keep your thoughts to yourself and stop pestering me. You are my housekeeper, not my personal advisor…Stick to your duties".
Mrs. Norrington forced a smile.
- "Of course, Master Reaver. I apologize".
As she was leaving his office, Barry Hatch arrived and approached Reaver.
- "Master Weaver, you have a visitor"- he said happily.
Reaver took the documents from his desk and started checking them out again.
- "I'm busy, I can't see anyone now"- he said, not even looking at him.
Barry approached him even more and smirked.
- "I believe you will make time for this visitor…"
Reaver looked at him and frowned. Could it be Dainara?
- "Miss Valerie is here"- went on Barry.
Reaver rolled his eyes and went back to his documents.
- "Tell her I'm busy"- he said firmly.
Barry looked at him confused. Was his Master rejecting a beautiful woman who had come to sleep with him? Mrs. Norrington observed the scene from the door and frowned when she saw the cold attitude of Reaver towards his latest lover's visit. Something serious had happened to him…but what could it be?
- "Alwight, Master…"- said Barry, leaving the room.
Reaver sighed and did his best to go on revising the accounting as the wine he was drinking calmed his anxiety.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
- "What is it now?"- he asked angrily.
The door opened and Barry appeared behind it.
- "I'm sorry to bother you, Master Weaver, but I'm afraid Miss Valerie insists on seeing you tonight".
Reaver left the papers on the table angrily and frowned.
- "Tell Miss Valerie that I'm not in a very good mood right now and that it would be wise of her to leave before things get…dangerous".
- "I…I'll tell her that, Master Weaver".
As Barry was getting ready to leave, a blonde woman dressed in elegant and revealing clothes entered the room. Her wavy hair fell graciously on her face and reached her generous cleavage that seemed to be about to leave her dress.
- "Reaver, my darling, what is this nonsense that you don't want to see me?"
Reaver looked at Barry furiously.
- "Why did you let her in?"
- "I didn't, Master! She must have sneaked inside while I was here!"
Valerie approached Reaver and sat suggestively on his desk, crossing her legs.
- "Oh, don't be mad, darling! I just want us to have some fun together".
A week earlier, had the same situation occurred, Reaver would have sent Barry out of the room immediately and would have had sex with her right there on his desk. But now he didn't feel like touching any other woman that was not his beloved Dainara…
- "Get out of my desk and leave. I'm not in the mood"- he said coldly.
Valerie turned around and sat on his lap, facing him.
- "Oh, come on! Whatever your problem is, you will forget about it after spending the night with me…I'll be the only thing you'll be able to think about".
Reaver held her and placed her on top of his desk, climbing on top of her and approaching her ear softly.
- "You are becoming quite annoying, my dear…Be smart for once in your pitiful life and leave me alone before I kill you"- he whispered.
Valerie looked at him confused. He got up and touched his pistol threateningly.
- "Go!"
She got up quickly and left the room, not even daring to look back, as Barry observed the scene, not understanding anything.
- "Make sure no one disturbs me again, is that clear?"- said Reaver to his butler.
Barry nodded and left the room.
Reaver took his chalice and filled it again with wine, drinking it at once. He was trying to convince himself that Lucious had died, that he was Reaver…but this deep love he felt for Dainara, the very same love Lucious had felt for her, made him doubt that the man from Oakvale was totally gone…The man who destroyed his hometown, who broke every promise he had made to his love, hurting her…The man who had killed Captain André and Morgan, the closest thing he had to a family.
Reaver refilled his chalice once and once again until he finished the bottle.
Suddenly, the door opened again.
- "Master Weaver…"
- "My dear Barry, I knew you weren't so smart, but I didn't know you were bloody stupid"- he said angrily- "You have five seconds to give me a good reason not to kill you".
Barry approached his desk quickly and handed him a little piece of paper.
- "Someone came and gave me this…The person said that you would find it interesting".
Reaver frowned and unfolded the little paper, reading it carefully. He then scoffed and smirked.
- "Thank you, Barry. You may retire".
Barry remained still, looking at him.
- "Is it good news, Master?"- he asked with curiosity.
- "Let's just say that tomorrow it will be a fun day".
Night passed and the sun shone again over the beautiful Bowerstone.
Page, Ben, Queen Nichole, Dainara and the rest, all wearing robes to avoid being recognized, stood in an empty street of Bowerstone Industrial, very close to the warehouse where they had planned to go.
- "Alright…we are all here. Did you bring the explosives, Blaze?"- said Page.
- "I have them right here"- he replied, showing a little package to the group.
- "Good, then let's get started. You all know your positions"- said Page, making her way slowly towards the warehouse, followed by the rest.
The warehouse's doors were wide-open and only a handful of workers could be seen inside.
- "Blaze, Zachary, Kidd, take one explosive bar each one of you and place it inside some boxes filled with products…We will take advantage of this situation and make him lose some gold"- said Page- "Your Majesty, Ben, you know what to do…Good luck, everyone!"
Page and the three men took the explosives and sneaked inside the warehouse while the Queen, Ben and the rest surrounded it, keeping their weapons at hand.
- "Ben, go to the back and create a perimeter with part of the group. I will watch the entrance with the rest"- said Queen Nichole.
Ben nodded and guided some rebels to their positions. The Queen turned to her small group.
- "Go to the sides and watch out for people approaching us. Malya, you'll stay with me, guarding the entrance"- she then turned to Dainara, who seemed very nervous- "You will remain behind me and if things get really ugly, I want you to run up the little path to the left that leads out of here and get back to the Castle, is that clear?"
Dainara nodded and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.
Some minutes had already passed when they heard some noises inside the warehouse. Immediately, the workers left the building alarmed. Dainara approached them quickly and tried to keep them calm.
- "Do not worry, we won't harm you"- she said- "You must only get out of Bowerstone Industrial as fast as you can".
One of the workers scoffed nervously.
- "You may not harm us, but if we leave our duties and Reaver finds out, we are as good as dead".
Dainara tried to keep strong despite the pain she felt.
- "I promise nothing will happen to you. Now go, a bomb is about to explode here".
As soon as they heard this, they ran away quickly.
Page came out of the warehouse running along with the rest.
- "Close the doors! Fast!"
The Queen and Malya closed the doors quickly and ran, getting away from the building. Soon, some loud explosions were heard, which resonated all around the area.
- "Alright, people!"- shouted Page- "Let's keep our positions until someone comes…We must keep them entertained so that the firings don't take place today".
Everyone went back to their places, looking around vigilantly. Shortly after, some workers approached the building, looking at them suspiciously, and not much later, some supervisors arrived, holding guns and knives.
- "Look what we have here…Some Resistance scum"- said one of them approaching them threateningly- "You will die for what you've done, you worms!"
As soon as he raised his weapon, Page shot at his arm, making him drop his gun and shout in pain.
- "This is going to be easy"- smiled Page as she hit another supervisor with her gun's barrel, making him fall to the floor unconscious.
The rest of the group also got their weapons and fought them with ease until every single supervisor was knocked out on the floor.
Page approached the group of workers who observed the scene with fear.
- "Workers of Bowerstone, you shall never worry about injustice or exploitation. The Bowerstone Resistance will always be there to help you…And today no sick worker shall be fired from these factories".
The workers cheered happily for a moment, but their voice immediately fell silent as a dark figure approached the area.
- "My, my, such an uncivilized way to treat my employees"- said Reaver poking the unconscious supervisors with his cane- "Oh, well, I guess I'll have to deal with this little problem myself".
Page looked at him surprised and frowned angrily.
- "Hello, Reaver…Did you come to make sure the firings were as humiliating as possible? Or did you just decide to save the poor sick workers the suffering of dying slowly and you came to kill them directly?"
- " Oh, my dear, when will you let me put this fierceness of yours to good use?"
- "The day when you let me kill you"- she replied defiantly.
Reaver chuckled.
- "I'm afraid you would find it quite an impossible task, my sweet"- he said- "But let's not get lost into wild dreams and wishes. Let's get down to business, specifically MY business, which you ruined today".
- "And we won't stop ruining it until you treat your workers like people and not like animals".
- "I'm afraid, my dear, that you have no power to decide how I treat my workers…Not even our beloved Queen does".
Dainara pulled the hood of her robe, covering her face as much as she could while inside of her she felt a mixture of pain and anger.
- "Maybe I do…"- replied Page threateningly raising her gun and pointing at Reaver.
Soon, Blaze, Zachary and Kidd raised their weapons too.
Reaver smirked.
- "Oh, I'm really flattered to see that you consider me so invincible that you need a whole team to try to kill me…"
Dainara observed the scene, feeling somehow restless. Were they really going to kill him? He was immortal, but surely a lot of bullets piercing his body would kill him…
Reaver placed his hand over his Dragonstomper and took it out of his holster.
- "Very good…Let the game begin".
- "Shoot!"- shouted Page.
Before they even had time to shoot, Reaver shot quickly and removed the weapons from their hands, including Page's. Everyone looked at him, confused.
- "And now, who shall I kill first?"- asked Reaver.
- "I shall kill you, you bastard! You killed my brother!"- said one of the rebels, taking out a knife and running towards Reaver.
Reaver shot him on the head, and the young man fell lifeless to the floor.
- "Oh, looks like we had a volunteer"- said Reaver sarcastically.
- "Jenkins!"- shouted Page, running towards him- "You will pay for everything you have done, Reaver!"
Dainara looked at him unable to move, unable to speak, unable to breathe…He had killed a man in cold blood, feeling no regard for his life. If she ever had any doubt about Lucious being still inside of him, now it was over…This man could not be Lucious, he was just Reaver, the man who hurt her so much, the murderer who killed Nana and the rest.
- "Now, since today I'm feeling generous, I will let you all go…Anyway, I knew you were coming and I had already removed my products from the warehouse, all that remained were defective items which required disposal, so you actually made me a favour by blowing them up. But next time I see you around here, I can assure you I will kill you all..."- he then smiled and turned around- "Now, I must go, tatty-bye!"
Page kneeled before the body of Jenkins, trying to hold back the tears that filled her eyes. Queen Nichole approached her and hugged her.
- "He will pay for this, Page".
Dainara started crying inconsolably, making everyone look at her. Maybe she could have saved this poor man, if she had revealed her identity, maybe Reaver wouldn't have shot him…
- "I wish you hadn't witnessed that"- said the Queen sadly.
- "I…I'm sorry! I'm very sorry! I should have…"- she said.
- "There was nothing you could have done"- said the Queen sweetly.
- "I'm sorry".
Dainara turned around and ran towards the path that led to the Castle.
- "He's not Lucious, he's just Reaver"- she thought- "Lucious would have never broken his promises to me, he would have never hurt me…would he?"
