A/N:Hi folks~ Sorry for the long wait, here's the next installment~
Brad's POV
He'd been staring at the flier for the past hour. It beat staring at the ceiling, wondering what he should do about it.
Before more nothing could happen, his door busted open, and Brad already knew who it was without having to look.
"Tuck, get out of my room," he said calmly, albeit, a little annoyed.
"You said you'd come play with me hours ago! What's taking you?"
"It hasn't even been an hour!" Brad glanced over at his alarm clock to make sure.
"Yeah well, all you look like you're doing is staring into space, while you could be playing Mega Ultra Robo Space Aliens with me," Tuck argued. Brad sat up, but not without sighing loudly.
"Fine, let's go."
"Whoo-hoo!" his brother cheered before noticing the paper in his hand. "What's that?"
Before Brad could lie and say 'nothing', it was snatched out of his grip.
"Tuck! Give it back!" But Tuck started to run away squealing in delight. Brad ran after him, thundering down the stairs to catch his annoyance of a baby brother. "I'm not messing around, now give it back!" He saw a blur dash into the living room. He quickly followed after him, but only saw his feet as he crawled under the couch. "You little twerp!" Brad bent down and stuck his hand under the couch, but couldn't reach his small figure.
"The Town Square Fair?" Tuck read out loud.
"Give it back!"
"This is what you chased me down for? What's the big deal, it's the same every year."
"Alright, then give it back!"
Tuck was quiet other than the rustling of the flier being turned back and forth. "The only difference…is there's a new girl in town! Jenny!"
"TUCK!"
His little brother crawled out from under the couch, and slipped past Brad's arms. "Tucker, get back here with that flier!"
"No way!" Tuck stood at the opened front door. "Not until I tell Jenny, about the fair. And about how you were thinking of inviting-"
But Tuck should have taken the chance to run, because during his teasing, Brad got a hold of him by the back of his collar.
"Ha! Teaches you!" Brad said triumphantly.
"Jenny's gonna find out anyway," Tuck grumbled.
"Find out what?"
They both jumped at the sound of Jenny's voice. Brad dropped Tuck on the ground who groaned and rubbed his tailbone.
"Jenny! Didn't see you come up the walkway," Brad tried to say calmly, but sort of failed.
"I hopped over the hedge. I was trimming it on our side." She held up trimming scissors. "It's much faster than walking around."
"I guess that's true." Brad leaned on the doorway, getting some of his bravado back.
"You could have flown over here using your super-"
"SUPER HIGH SPIRITS, CAUSE I'M SO ELATED I COULD HAVE FLOWN UP IN THE AIR," Jenny proclaimed rather loudly.
"Uh, elated from trimming the hedge?" he asked
"…yeah," she responded weakly, cutting Tuck a glare.
Maybe this would be the right time to ask? But Brad didn't know how, or if he even should ask her.
"So…what was this about me finding out something?" she asked.
He slapped his forehead. He forgot she had heard that part.
"Well uh, you see…I was wondering…well uh…it's just…there's this thing happening…"
"The Town Square Fair is tomorrow!" Tuck blurted before Brad got the chance.
"Town's Square Fair?" Jenny asked confused. She even tilted her head in this really cute fashion.
"Yeah!" Tuck answered, again before Brad. "There's rides, and games. Everyone-!" Before he could get any further he covered Tuck's mouth.
"Everyone in town'll be there," Brad finished.
"Wow, sounds like fun!" Jenny exclaimed.
"Do you wanna come with us Jenny?"
Brad was seriously thinking of duct taping his brother's mouth shut.
"You guys are going?"
"Yeah! We go together every year! And this year, I'm gonna overcome that ride of death…"
"Ride of…death?"
"Ferris wheel," Brad whispered to her. "But yeah, you're more than welcome to join us Jen." And he would have invited just the two of them if his snotty little brother didn't get in his way.
"Thanks! I just have to check with my mom first, but I'm sure she'll say yes." Jenny waved at them before turning back to her own home across the hedge. Once she was out of eyesight, Brad glared down at Tuck something fierce, while Tuck merely grinned.
A couple hours into the night, Brad heard a large thud as if someone dropped a garbage truck from 50 feet in the air. The sound came from next door…
Brad was concerned that Jenny might be in trouble, so he quietly got out of his bed, and snuck out the house. Using Jenny's method, he hopped over the hedge so he wouldn't be seen coming. He circled back to the tree he had climbed that first day he ever met Jenny Wakeman. Climbing it with ease, he reached the top and peered inside her room. Seeing it was giving him a weird sense of déjà vu. Her room was a mess, even worse than the last time, with giant piles of clothes, and books scattered everywhere. And once again, Jenny was lying face down on her bed. He tapped the window to get her attention.
Her head slowly turned, but it popped up once she saw who it was. She dashed over to the window in what seemed the blink of an eye, and opened it for him to enter.
"Brad, what are you doing here?" she asked while giving him a hand inside.
"I heard a really loud thud, and was wondering if that came from here." He looked around and saw there was a large dent in her wall. Underneath it was the rubble and a very broken stereo. "Uh…what happened there?" he asked, pointing at the destruction.
Jenny followed his finger and gasped when she saw it. "Oh that's-!" She quickly ran over to put a blanket over the mess. "Uh…I guess I was a bit angry."
That would explain the noise. "That's quite an arm you've got, to put a hole in the wall," he said instead.
"Not really…" she mumbled.
Trying to make Jenny feel more comfortable (because she looked really uncomfortable then), Brad waltzed over to her bean bag chair and plopped down into it. Jenny stared at him for a moment before holding back a snort. "What?"
"Nice pajamas," she chuckled. Brad looked down and saw his plain black t-shirt and didn't understand until he realized it was accompanied with his green and dark blue Reptar cotton bottoms.
Oh geez.
Before Brad could revel in his embarrassment, he looked at Jenny and gave his own snort. "Right back at you, chick," he said, referring to the baby chicks on her shorts.
Jenny looked down, and instead of getting embarrassed, she just laughed. Brad joined along with her before they both realized it was the middle of the night, and he had sneaked into her room for a reason.
"So, what made you so angry that you broke a perfectly good stereo?" he asked nonchalant.
Jenny sighed, probably remembering, and went to sit cross-legged at the end of her bed near him. "It's just my mom…" she started.
"What the doc do this time?"
"What she did?" Jenny 'hmphed'. "More like what she didn't do. She never lets me do anything I want!" Jenny groaned. "She's always making me work, and I never get to have any fun!" She snatched a pillow from her bed and screamed into it.
"You alright Jen?" he asked, after she'd calmed down. She simply nodded, wiping the slight tears from her eyes. "What happened? What's she not letting you do?"
"She's not letting me go to the Fair!" Jenny exclaimed.
"What?!" That was ridiculous!
"She says that it's too dangerous, and I'm not familiar enough with the area to go. She's so-! Ugh!" She flopped backwards so she was staring at the ceiling.
"There's nothing dangerous about the Town Square Fair. And I'll be there with you the whole time, so you won't get lost or anything," he explained. Jenny sat back up and stared at him, making Brad blush. Luckily, it was covered by the dark of the night. "I mean, Tuck will be there too."
"I know, but my mom will never buy it," she sighed dejectedly.
Brad thought about it for a moment before he came up with a brilliant idea. "What if…you don't tell her?"
"You mean…sneak out?" she asked incredulously.
"Yeah! I do it all the time!" He was literally doing it right then.
"But…I've never snuck out before. And if my mom finds out, she'll bake me alive," she mumbled, messing with her pillow.
"Come on, every normal teenager has snuck out once or twice before in their lives," he pointed out. Jenny thought about it, and eventually smiled.
"Yeah. You're right. Any normal teenager…" She jumped up so she was standing on her plush bed. "It's brilliant!"
"I know I am."
Jenny hopped down and offered her hand to help Brad up. "So, tomorrow then?"
"Tomorrow," Brad replied.
She walked him over to the window, and he carefully climbed out to the tree.
"Hey Brad!" she called to him. He turned back and almost fell, again. It was so dark in her room, he didn't notice her hair was down for the first time.
"Y-yeah?" he stuttered.
"Careful going down the tree," she giggled, smiling brightly.
Easier said than done, Jenny.
