Chapter Ten

"So everything's ok?" Brooke asked as she used some tissue paper to wipe the gel off her stomach. She sat up, pulling her top back down over her bump and threw the tissue into the trash.

"They're perfectly healthy," the doctor smiled. He wrote a few notes down as Brooke sorted herself out. He then proceeded to print some scan pictures off for her and handed them over.

"Thank you," she smiled and placed the pictures safely in her bag.

"We'll call you closer to the time to arrange your next scan. You'll be able to find out the sex of those babies of yours then if you both wish to," he smiled at both Brooke and Chris.

"Thank you for everything." Chris stepped forward and shook the doctors hand. He turned his attention to Brooke, "We should head off."

"I'll see you both soon. And remember; if you need anything, don't hesitate to call."

"Of course. Thanks again, doctor. I'll see you at my next scan." Brooke felt happier than she had done in awhile as the pair left the hospital together.

"Fancy some lunch?" Chris asked as they walked together down the street. "My treat."

"Um, I should really be getting to school." Brooke had skipped school the last few days purely to avoid Lucas. She had spent every moment with Chris and as weird as it was to admit it; she was actually liking the person Chris was becoming.

"Nonsense. You and those babies of ours need to eat. What kind of man would I be if I let the mother of my children go hungry?" He directed her towards a small café on the opposite side of the road.

She still wasn't used to all of this. Chris being so nice to her. For the past few days she had stayed in the same hotel room with Chris because she had no where else to go. She skipped school so she didn't have to deal with any unneeded drama. He had actually been treating her really well.

She finally gave in with a sigh that hid a small smile appearing on her face. "Fine. I'm going to school after though. I need to graduate so I can actually take care of them." She pointed to her stomach and looked down.

"Chill out, Brooke. I'm a rock star. I could take care of all yours and the twins needs."

She laughed. "You're this big rock star, hmm?" He nodded. "So where's all your adoring fans?"

"Sleeping peacefully in their mommy's tummy I would hope," he grinned.

She let out a small laugh and playfully pushed her hand against his shoulder. "Shut up."

"We're here." Chris stopped right in front of a café with a smile.

Brooke looked up and noticed exactly where they were. Her eyes widened as she shook her head. "Oh no. No way. I can't go in there."

"Why not? It's somewhere to eat, isn't it?"

"Stop acting dumb, Chris. You know exactly why. This is Karen's Café." She backed away from the door in the hope no one saw her. Thankfully she thought no one had.

"So? Who cares. You gotta eat."

"Yeah but not here. Karen is Luke's mom. I don't need the hassle if Lucas finds out," Brooke sighed.

"Ok," he reluctantly agreed. "You pick."

They both turned around and began walking in the opposite direction to Karen's café until a familiar voice stopped them in their tracks.

"Brooke?" He yelled, quickly walking to her. He saw Chris turn around and shot him an evil glare.

Brooke turned around to come faced with none other than Lucas. She had spent the last few days avoiding him. That meant ditching school and keeping her cell phone switched off.

It didn't take Lucas long to place the pieces together and realise why she avoided him. "You're avoiding me, to hang out with him?"

"It's not like that," she sighed. "I have no where else to go, and he—"

"You're STAYING with him, too?" Lucas questioned with raised eyebrows.

"Yeah. She is. And what?" Chris smirked knowing how much it would irritate Luke.

Brooke got in between the pair so nothing could start. She didn't need this drama. "Enough. Lucas, Chris offered me a place to stay and a friendly ear. He's actually been helping me a lot. A lot more than you have if I'm honest. And I don't mean that in some horrible way," she paused to gather her thoughts. "He's just surprised me, okay? You've been too busy and Chris was just there." She shook her head and walked away to the side. She wasn't going to be in the middle of their hatred for one another again if she could help it.

"Brooke, I'm sorry, but you know what he's like. He almost destroyed Nathan and Haley's marriage. Don't let him do that to our relationship. Please," Lucas begged.

"I think you're doing a perfectly good job of that on your own." She hated how he always put Peyton first, especially now.

"Maybe we should go?" Chris suggested, to which Brooke agreed. "You don't need all this stress."

Brooke turned her attention to Lucas. "I'll call you later and I'll see you at school tomorrow. I have to go." She began walking away slowly, thinking to herself.

Before he left, Chris stepped closer to Lucas with a grin on his face. "She might be your girlfriend, but she's sleeping in my bed."

"Shut. Your. Mouth." Lucas spat through gritted teeth.

"Ya know, when we're in bed together, she does this thing with her tongue. Amazing," he smirked and let out a small laugh.

Lucas couldn't stand for this much longer and without even thinking of the consequences, pulled his arm back, clenched his fist and pushed forward smacking Chris right in the mouth. The force knocked Chris on the floor which made Brooke turn around.

She rushed forward. "What the hell are you doing?" She leant down to try to help Chris up.

"He's crazy. I only said he needs to think of you and he hit me." Chris put his hand to his mouth and noticed blood. "He needs to control himself."

"You lying, sick son-of-bitch. You need to stay away from him, Brooke."

"NO Lucas. YOU need to stay away from ME." She shook her head. "Are you ok, Chris? Let's go." They both began to walk away.

"You'll regret this," Lucas shouted.

Brooke turned around one last time. "No Luke. You are the one whose gonna regret this. You need to stop playing hero to my so-called best friend and actually look at the bigger picture."

"Brooke," he tried to take her hand but she snatched it away.

"I'm done, Lucas. I'm just," she sighed not wanting to believe she was saying this again. "I'm just done."

"Damn. Can't believe I missed it," Rachel laughed as she continued looking at the dresses hung up in the store they walked around.

"Come on, Rachel. This is my life you're laughing about here."

"Sorry."

"What am I gonna do?" Brooke asked.

"You need to keep away from drama. Lucas is a jerk and I know you said Chris has changed, but I don't know, you can't trust guys like that." Rachel picked up a dress and held it against herself.

"You should see him though, Rachel. He's been so nice to me these last few days a—"

"I'm sure he has, but I don't think Lucas would react like that without Chris having said something to tick him off." Rachel placed the dress back down as they headed to the exit.

Brooke sighed and rubbed her eyes. She was starting to get really tired and her feet felt quite sore. "I'm gonna head back to the hotel. I am so tired." She then let out a small yawn.

"You know, there's plenty of room at mine if you want. I mean it's probably not a good idea to keep staying with Chris."

Rachel actually made sense. "Are you sure? What about your parents?"

"Parents are never there. There's plenty of space and I'd actually like the company, even if it's only you," Rachel laughed which caused Brooke to also.

"Okay, you're on," Brooke smiled.

Brooke was making her way back to the hotel she was staying in with Chris. She planned to gather up her bags and take Rachel up on her offer to move in.

She began to get slower with her walking as she became more tired, that was until she turned the corner and stopped dead in her tracks.

"What did I tell you, little girl?" The voice spoke with such hate.

It was Dan Scott who stood right in front of her.

"I.. I.. Um, I.." She stuttered.

"Shut up." He took hold of her arms and held them tightly. "I told you to sort that problem out, but it seems you don't do what you're told. I guess it's just as well I've arranged things for you."

"What?" She whispered.

He let go of her arms and pulled something out from his inside pocket. He threw it at her and she just managed to catch it. It was a small piece of paper which had a date, time and place written down.

"Tomorrow. That problem will be sorted. As I thought, you were taking too long with your decision so I took that choice out of your hands. You have an appointment at the clinic tomorrow."

"I.. I can't."

"You go to that appointment tomorrow and sort this problem out," he hissed taking hold of her arms and yanked her forward. "Or I will sort it for you." He made a point of pushing her forward to show her he was in control.

Brooke fell to the floor wincing in pain. She rubbed her arms and remained on the cold ground as her eyes began to water. She watched as Dan laughed and waked away.

She felt absolutely terrified with only one way outta this mess.
