Here it was- all that work, all the confusion, blood, emotions, and planning all came down to this moment. Here he would finally set things straight, he would finally fix his mess and do something right for once. Wheatley was outside the chamber waiting for Chell to come in, but his thoughts weren't here. They were in the future, thinking about what comes next. He was just an intern, so he might be fired and forced to leave aperture forever. But he also will have saved an employee's daughter, so they might hire him. In that case, he could work with GLaDOS forever, or at least until he died. That was comforting, knowing he was going to have something to look forward to for once. He's have a fresh start, and this time he wouldn't make any mistakes. He would be a star employee. Look out Doug Rattman and Cave Johnson- Wheatley's here and ready to boogie- metaphorically, of course.

His future started now, all he has to do to ensure it is to get Chell up those stairs and to her dad. Then she'd be gone and happy, and he'd be here and happy, and She'd be happy. Everyone was going to get a happy end, thanks to him. He smiled, proud of himself for the first time.

Chell got out of the elevator. These test chambers had been a joke- she couldn't believe other people had died on it. Obviously they must've been weak, since she wasn't supposed to be here and was the only one who survived it.

Freedom was in her grasp, just a stairwell away. Just steps away from her dad, from being able to go home knowing this place will burn. She was so close to getting everything, it seemed too good to be true. Of course it was, she had outsmarted the moron, and She didn't even dare come near her. Chell was the victor, the champion and lone surviving test subject of Aperture "death factory" Laboratories.

She walked into the chamber and looked around for any obvious sign of an exit. The end was so near she could almost taste it, her last puzzle was getting out, and, like all the other puzzles here, it was going to be ridiculously easy for her.

Chell's here. Better make this good or she'll shoot me again

Honestly she'd probably shoot him nonetheless. Chell seemed to be very trigger-happy. But Wheatley didn't have the luxury to worry about what might happen, he needed to make what has to happen happen. So he stood up straight, tried to look confident, and stepped out into the test chamber, also opening the door to the exit.

"Hello!"

"You. How are you even alive?"

She was glaring again- that evil, frightening glare she gave him last time they met. He wanted to run, he really did. But this was his job, he couldn't fail. He'd promised GLaDOS.

"Yeah, funny story. I got saved by GLaDOS, whose actually a good person-er, robot. And now I'm here to get you back home, as is my job."

"Yeah, right. Even if I needed your help I wouldn't take it. I know who you are- a traitor."

"Ok, I know you don't trust me and all, but you kinda have to! If I don't get you out of here myself not only will the scientists punish me horribly, but I'll also be breaking a promise I made.

"Even better. Now outta my way," Chell said as she walked toward the exit.

Wheatley went against his every will and moved to block the way to the exit.

"Sorry, no-can-do. The only way you can leave is with me. You'd probably die otherwise."

"Oh, is that your plan? Have Her kill me if I don't comply. I'm not scared of Her"

"Nonono that's not what I meant at all. Urgh, why do I have to be such a moron? Please just trust me I'm trying to save you!"

"You're trying to kill me"

"I haven't done anything to hurt you! You're the one who shot me! If you aren't going to listen then-"

He stepped forward and grabbed her arm

"I'm taking you with me"

"Let go!"

He started walking to the exit, dragging her behind. Chell was doing her utmost to get her arm free, but Wheatley found himself with a new strength-determination. He was going to take Chell out of her safe one way or the other, so if she wasn't complying he would keep dragging her along.

"No. You won't believe me, so I'm getting you out myself. You don't have to like me or trust me or even care if I live or die, but I'm taking you out of here. I never break a promise and I'm not gonna start now"

"Oh, like how you promised I'd be fine before you dropped me down here?"

That did it. Nice people have long fuses, but when they finally blow, it all comes out. Wheatley turned to her.

"Now you listen here Chell. You may not have noticed, but I am followed by accidents. I can't go five minutes without screwing something up! I messed up back there, but I was given an opportunity to fix my mistake so I am. I don't get this chance a lot, and I hate to be using it on someone like you, but I'm not going to waste it! I can't let you die but I can't allow you to get out on your own and lie to everyone about me and Her! So you'd better shut your mouth, follow me, and let me save you!"

It shut her off. Chell was actually silent the rest of the way up. After a few minutes they reached the top of the stairs and Wheatley opened the door with his spare hand. The hall they entered was bustling with scientists, but once everyone saw them they froze. Everyone had thought the two had died, caught by Her and forced to be text subjects. Seeing them alive was a miracle. Another intern ran to get Chell's dad, who came sprinting over.

"Chell! Thank goodness you're alive! Are you hurt?"

"I'm fine.."

Her dad turned to Wheatley.

"What happened?"

"Well, sir, it was my bad. I had her with me to power up GLaDOS, who took her as a test subject. She then told me to save Chell, which I found weird. But I learned that, at least with me, GLaDOS actually doesn't want to kill people, she just wants a good show and some science. So I got Chell out."

"Thank you so much Wheatley. I see a promotion coming"

"Thank you very much sir. Well, I'll leave you two. There's something I have to finish"

Back at GlaDOS's chamber, he told her the good news

"I'm gonna be a scientist, which means I can work with you!"

"That's amazing! Looks like everything is working for the best"

It wasn't, because back upstairs Chell was giving her father a very good idea for a very bad thing they could do to Wheatley.

For science.

Anything, even murder, could be done morally if it was for science. That was the hidden motto of Aperture.
