" Okay now," Phillip said as he observed his surroundings. " where the hell am I?"
Only now does Phillip regret not buying a compass at the last town. Today he had found himself in a forest with extremely tall, light green grass, which surprised him as trees usually soaked up the any rain water that came by.
Phillip groaned. "I will never understand what physics this world runs on."
" You know talking to yourself is usually a sign of insanity to most people." Gabriel told him from inside Phillip's head. " You know that, right?"
When did I care what people thought of me? Phillip asked.
"... Good point."
Phillip continued to trudge through the tall grass towards some boulders.Without a second thought he jumped up onto the rock and sat down to rest up.
" Could I talk to you for a second?" Gabriel called for the depths.
What's up? Phillip asked.
" I have taken notice that you have not thought through your actions, and rarely holds a conversation in your head, much less the outside world. Only recently have you began thinking, and only because you have direct link to your Pokemon for those thoughts to travel."
And?
" I'm getting to that. I have also noticed that you, rather than thinking through things, run only on instinct."
Yes?
" I'm just wondering what you are going to do when you meet someone who runs on similar energy."
I'll surprise them.
" That is it? You are going to-" With that in mind, Phillip cut the link to look around.
His new location had grass far shorter than the ones in the forest. Along with that, the trees were circled around to make this clearing. Phillip was on top of one of the many boulders in the area, and one was draining some water down for a small pound that wild Pokemon would come for a drink.
Phillip smiled down at plant-based Pokemon with a blue body and legs. It's eyes were shut as it sipped up some of the water though its small mouth.
Phillip, while content with the nature around, pulled out the Dex for a scan of the Pokemon.
Oddish: The-
Phillip shut the Dex quickly, but for a reason this time around. The Oddish jumped at the sound of the voice and looked up at Phillip. Its beady eyes gave it a good face to distort into terror. When it noticed that Phillip wasn't moving, it slipped out of its posture, but was still tense. Phillip gave it a smile and turned away from it. When the sounds of sipping returned, Phillip stretched and did his best to lay down across the boulder.
Two milliseconds, or at least to Phillip, later, and Phillip was awoken by a familiar voice. The day I lose this guy is when hell freezes. Phillip turned to lay on his stomach to watch Ash listen to his PokeDex on the same Oddish, which seemed more content to drink the water than anything else.
When Ash finished listening to his Dex, he went for a Pokeball, only for Misty to step in the way to try catching it herself. They argued, but Misty came out on top. Oddish finally noticed the group and scampered away, but Misty caught it in the act. She summoned out Starmie to block it's path. Oddish just ran the another way. Starmie stopped it with a Water Gun and then Tackled it for the final blow.
Misty brought out her Pokeball and tossed it... only for it to be sent back to her upon a new arrival.
A new Pokemon with light blue-green skin with darker blue spots littering it. Its growl and red eyes gave it a menacing look, despite it's stubby legs and large bulb on its back.
Phillip didn't need the PokeDex for this creature. He had already seen one at Professor Oak's lad. A wild Bulbasaur. Never see those very often.
" Should we care about this specimen?" Black asked.
If it interests you, go ahead and read about it. Otherwise, not so much Phillip replied. Either way, Phillip still watched the up-coming battle.
Bulbasaur knocked Starmie away with a headbutt, sending it away into its trainer's arms, and basically out cold. While Misty was fretting over Starmie, Ash went over to try. He sent out Butterfree for the next round, and called upon Sleep Powder. Bulbasaur simply breathed the powder away and onto Butterfree. It fell to the ground in a heap, and as it was recovering, Bulbasaur knocked it away just like Starmie before it.
With both opponents down, Oddish and Bulbasaur ran away from the group of humans.
Phillip got up with a stretch before calling the others' attention to him. " Well, that was a good fight, if I do say so myself."
" Oh, ha ha." Misty said sarcastically before returned to tend to her Pokemon, which looked a little weathered, but nothing to bad.
Ash, however, ran up to him. " Did you see where the Bulbasaur went to?!"
Phillip slowed him down. " Easy. Let's get your Pokemon back into shape first. Okay?" Ash stopped everything for a second before chuckling sheepishly with a finger scratching his cheek.
_Scene Change_
Everyone, Phillip included, had followed the path that Bulbasaur ran off to. They had the unfortunate luck to find themselves over a ledge leading a couple hundred feet down to a rapid river running east. The river had a sturdy bridge that looked like it could carry them across, but Phillip wasn't taking chances.
Phillip look directly at the bridge and said, " I'm not crossing that thing."
" How else are you going to travel past the river?" Brock asked. " This is the only bridge for yards and those could be less stable than this one."
Phillip shrugged. " I'll get over to the other side. That's all you need to know." With this, Phillip walked westward away from the group.
When the others were far enough that Phillip see them any more, he turned to ledge and walked to the edge of it. I'm gonna start hoping I don't fail this. Okay?
" You have done flying before." Gabriel told him. " Remember that time when you saved Buttercup and Blossom?"
That was falling. Anyone can fall.
Phillip blow out whatever tension he had left and slipped of the edge. As he fell closer to the water, Phillip focused his energy at his feet to get a propelling force going beneath him. Though he didn't doubt the powers he gained, thoughts of doubt on himself nearly prevented him from succeeding the task at hand. Only when Gabriel cleared all other thoughts except of the focus itself did Phillip actually feel the force bringing himself to levitate over the water.
Phillip released a breathe he hadn't known he was holding. Now to increase the pressure to get to up. With this, his focus increased on the force and tried increasing it. He shot up a little too quickly and was launched a couple thousand feet higher than intended.
He was lucky enough to land on the other side. The unlucky thing about it was he went through a couple tree branches and a bush to get there. He stood up from the debris and pulled a couple twigs from his hair with a stoic expression.
When all the sticks were removed, Phillip patting off any dust on his clothes. How did I not die from that?
" Two things: One is that you gained invincible skin from the other adventure; second is that this is an anime. Physics don't apply here often." Gabriel said.
Phillip shrugged as he matted down his hair. Point taken. When all was as he say fit, he walked back to the bridge to see if the others got across.
He found Misty, Ash, and Pikachu on their knees panting on the same side as he was. The bridge was now capsized and a rope torn at the middle.
Phillip looked down at them and asked. " Where's Brock?"
Misty spoke through her panting. " He... fell into... the river..."
Phillip ran his fingers between clumps of hair, turning back to the unkempt mess before, mumbling, " Great." He looked back at them and said, " I'm gonna look for him. You guys can go on for now."
" We're going with you!"
Phillip nodded at the outburst of the two. " Fine. Just keep up."
_Scene Change_
The group ran through the lower edges of the river. They found a passage down the cliffs that went the same general direction that the river was flowing. After the first couple minutes, they couldn't find Ash.
A few more minutes down the line, they stopped from a completely different reason. Misty had somehow triggered a trap hole when she was using the exact tracks of Phillip and Ash.
As Ash walked over to ask a slightly sensible, slightly stupid question of " how did you get down there?", Phillip looked at it more scientifically.
How did that hole not uncover until she came?
" I'm gonna follow your favored Youtuber: It's an anime. Don't question it."
Fair enough.
Phillip pulled himself out of his thoughts to see Ash pulling Misty out of the hole. He walked over to do the same as to hurry the group down the road.
_Scene Change_
Minutes down the line, the small group had reached a spot where the forest and river met between a rocky coast. Here, the river had more boulders sticking out for it and vegetation along the coast.
Ash just continued to call Brock by name while Misty asked the first out-loud question for the first time on the travel, " Think he washed this far downstream?"
" Possibly," Phillip stated. " We just have to keep our eyes open."
Unfortunately, Misty's foot caught hold of a rope. In a second, all four of them were caught in a net. Misty told them to wiggly to open the net up and Ash and Misty started doing so. This had no affect, and Ash called the entire thing stupid.
Phillip groaned. " If you two will stop shaking around, I can get us down."
" Really? How?" Misty asked.
" Easy." Phillip turned to the ropes and, using only his hand, cut through the bonds. They all fell to the ground, Ash and Misty on their butt, Pikachu and Phillip on their feet.
Unfortunately, they were met with the sight of Bulbasaur growling at them. Ash tried to pull out a Pokeball as he got up, but Phillip stopped him. Bulbasaur slowly walked off, facing them with a grim expression.
When the Pokemon left, Ash turned to Phillip. " Why'd you stop me?!"
" That Bulbasaur has a role in the forest. I wold like it keep that role." Phillip stated. Ash just huffed and walked away, leading the group farther into the forest.
Minutes later, Ash was getting bored of just walking and began sprouting stories on Brock's new whereabouts. He was now tell of how Brock was washed out to sea and abducted by pirates just before a storm came.
The three then heard a very familiar voice. " Ahoy!" Looking a little farther down the path, the group saw Brock. Ash and Misty ran up to him while Phillip kept a walking pace.
" We've been looking all over for you!"
" We saw you fall into the river! Then what happened?"
Brock held a straight face at the questions coming from Misty and Ash respectively. He then told his tale: as he was being washed away by the rapids, he was saved by a " girl that was incredibly beautiful". Phillip rolled his eyes at this, but smiled all the same. Ash said something about pirates out loud and Misty asked if he needed a reality check.
_Scene Change_
Everyone got to a small cabin that had little lake next to it. On the lake's beach, they saw a girl tending to some Pokemon. Upon their arrival, the girl turned to them and stood with cheer.
Brock introduced them. " Melanie, this is Ash, Misty, and Phillip." All gave a " hello" for a greeting. As they did so, Phillip gave Melanie an analyzing gaze.
The girl had blue hair held back with a band and pulled into the ponytail by a large, green bow. She wore red overalls with golden buttons and buckles above a pink shirt. She was slightly tan, possibly due to working outside for a lengthy amount of time.
Misty then broke him out of the thoughts with a question. " Do all those Pokemon belong to you?"
Melanie gave a negative response. " Oh, no."
Brock walked over and began petting one of the many Pokemon there, a Paras, while saying. " This is a place where Pokemon are able to rest and relax." Ash made a comparison to summer camp and Brock called it was slightly correct, " But also all year long. Ya see, when Pokemon get abandoned or injured, they can come here. Melanie takes care of them until they feel better, then they can leave."
Misty made a better likeness of the place. " So this is a Pokemon Center and Melanie is a Pokemon Doctor."
" I see." Phillip said calmly before turning to Melanie. " And how exactly do you make the food needed for the Pokemon?"
" There are many herbs in the forest that can be used not only for healing, but for food as well. It's easier after a while, and I've been doing this for almost a year now," she replied. " Beside that, I'm not qualifies to be a Pokemon Doctor."
" This is more like a Pokemon Health Spa." Brock told them, now standing. Two were confused, Phillip fine, and Melanie explained how the Pokemon never battled one another and tried their best to relax and enjoy until fully recovered.
Brock restated what Melanie told Phillip to the others about how Melanie finds plants in the forest to help the Pokemon. Phillip assumed she knew what she was doing and Brock confirmed this.
Ash saw how both Brock and Melanie loved helping Pokemon and commented so, but Brock was a little busy looking at Melanie to care much.
However, when Misty jumped to the conclusion of Brock actually liking Melanie more, Brock blushed a bright crimson and covered her mouth with his hand, all the while telling to keep a lid on it so Melanie wouldn't hear it. Phillip smirked as he leaned against the cabin.
" Shouldn't be more social on the matter?" Gabriel asked.
Phillip waved it down. I rarely ever socialize and I'm fine now
" But human are major gossips! How to you resist-"
Phillip cut the connection with Gabriel again, most likely to the other's major annoyance, and watched as Melanie explained why she created the traps to keep any Pokemon Trainers away from the small village. She even admitted that she rigged the bridge to be a trap as well. Apparently, only the innocent get get hit by them.
Brock took them out back behind the cabin and told them, " I promised Melanie that we wouldn't capture Pokemon here." Misty asked if the promise was sealed with a kiss and received two punches to the head; one from Brock and another from Phillip. She said the denial from Brock was telling he does love the girl, only to gain another round of punches.
" Why are you punching me?!" Misty asked Phillip.
" Because a gossip needs to learn to keep her nose out of other people's business. It's like me digging up the most foul secret you have and spreading it throughout the entire planet." Misty gulped and inched away from Phillip.
Ash said he'll keep to the promise, but asked a question almost immediately after. " But are those traps tough enough to keep robbers away from this place? Because you'd have to be pretty stupid to fall into one of those holes." Misty grew furious and aimed a swat at Ash's head, sending the boy flying to the front of the house.
Far later into the day, Brock was pouring water over a Staryu's body, keeping it moist while on the land. Staryu then shook of the water. Misty was apologizing to the Oddish from before. When she was giving a heartwarming speech( to most anyway), Ash came into the picture. Misty stood up to confront him, but someone else had a different plan. Bulbasaur came out of nowhere and hit Misty in the back, sending her to the ground. Ash got ready to finally battle Bulbasaur when Melanie jumped in front of him. A second before, Phillip jumped from his spot from the top of the cabin to hold Ash's arm back, preventing him from bringing out any Pokemon for the fight.
Melanie then told them about how Bulbasaur voluntarily became the villages protector, keeping enemies away from the injured Pokemon, saying that Bulbasaur was "the bravest and most loyal Pokemon," she knew.
" So that's why Bulbasaur attacked me." Misty concluded. " It must have thought I was taking Oddish from the village."
"Told ya." Phillip said to Ash with a smirk on his face. Ash just gave a"Hmph" and turned away.
All of this, however, didn't persuade Bulbasaur from trying to literally push the humans out. It walked right of up to Ash's leg and began shoving against the leg with it's head. Melanie stated that Bulbasaur doesn't like Pokemon Trainers, showing the reason behind the rough actions. When Misty and Melanie tried telling Bulbasaur that the group wasn't a threat, it just continued pushing Ash's leg, and Ash just commented how great it would be to have a Pokemon as brave as the one in front of him.
And only then did Team Rocket make an entrance.
To protect the world from-
" Oh, come on!" Phillip yelled. " Do you guys get a vacation?! Ever?!" Team Rocket may not have heard the small rant, seeing as they were up on a blimp, which was actually a stadium, with green attachments on each side keeping it aloft. Soon, however, the blimp crashed into the forest right next to the village. Once landed, a large tube shot out from side and began sucking the Pokemon in. Well, at least tried to anyway.
The Trainers were quick to react, gathering the Pokemon up and bringing them into the safety of the cabin. Misty tried getting Oddish, but it was to weak to stop itself from getting caught in the vacuum. It slipped from Misty's grip and was hurling to the tube, only to be caught by Bulbasaur's vines. Ash handed Staryu to Misty before heading over to block most of the vacuum's force, allowing Bulbasaur an easier time going to the cabin. Soon everyone was finally in the cabin safely.
Phillip looked outside through the window. " This is all bonding and all, but I don't suppose anyone has an idea on getting those idiots down." He turned to see Brock, Misty and Melanie shaking their heads while Ash was staring down at one of his Poke Balls.
A second later, Ash was smiling a wicked smile and turned to Phillip. " I might have one."
At this time, the tube was close enough to have the cabin shaking. Bulbasaur left the cabin's safety and jumped on top of the roof, just below the vacuum. It then used it's vines to knocked the tube off course, allowing for a moment of relief.
However, it wasn't going to be.
Phillip and Ash stepped out of the cabin and threw out one of their Poke Balls. The Pidgeottos appeared in the flashes of light before going for a Gust on both trainers orders. The combined forces of the Gusts and the vacuum's winds created a small twister. The tornado took a liking to Team Rocket and consumed them before carrying them all the way back to the beginning.
" And don't come back!" Phillip shouted at them.
_Time Skip_
Soon, the rest of the Pokemon were outside with the sun shining. Melanie asked for the condition of all of them, which gained a positive from all. Ash, however, made a small pun, cause Phillip to knock him upside the head.
Bulbasaur, now that the attack was over, was surprisingly chipper. Normally, the Pokemon looked uptight and serious, but now it seemed much happier.
Ash stared down at Bulbasaur with a smile. " This village is well protected with Bulbasaur here."
Melanie turned to him. "Ash, wouldn't you agree that Bulbasaur would make a great addition to your team?" Ash gave a exclaimed positive. " I think Bulbasaur should go with you."
Ash looked confused at Melanie's statement, so Melanie explained as she picked up said Pokemon. " Bulbasaur stayed here to protect the weaker Pokemon; but this village is too small. It's bulb on it's back can't grow; it needs to go back into the world now, and I know you'll take good care of it."
Phillip took this time of peace to exit the area, certain the group will make the correct decision without him.
" Now that we're out of sight," Gabriel said, almost too cheerfully, " we can finally get you back into training your powers."
Phillip groaned at this.
Can't the world give me a break someday? Please?
That's a wrap!
