I am so sorry for the long time between updates, I have been stuck on this story, but hopefully now my muses are back in full swing.
The next day at school Sarah was determined to talk to her friend, she knew there was something weird going on, and she had to find out what it was. She found the girl by her locker alone, and quickly made her way over to her before Cade decided to make an appearance. "Tahlia!"
The girl turned to Sarah and the blonde was momentarily taken aback at the smile on Tahlia's when she saw her. "Oh, hey, Sarah. Where have you been? I haven't seen you since yesterday morning."
"Yesterday morning?" Sarah asked, she was thoroughly confused now, she had seen Tahlia just yesterday evening when she had broken Pouge's heart.
"Yeah, right before swim practice, after that I didn't see you or the guys anywhere. I've been calling Pouge's phone, but he won't answer me, is he okay?"
The concern on Tahlia's face truly puzzled Sarah, how could she act like she hadn't just split his heart in two the day before. "You don't remember what you did to Pouge, yesterday?"
Tahlia's face fell, a look of horror taking over it's place. "What I did to Pouge?" Her mind was reeling, the last thing she remembered was kissing him before she went to swim practice. "What did I do, Sarah?" She whispered, her breaths coming in short gasps.
Sarah hesitated, she didn't want to tell the girl, clearly she had no idea what she had done. But the pleading look in Tahlia's eyes begged her, she took a deep breath before saying, "You broke up with him."
Tahlia's face paled to nearly pure white, she leaned against the locker for support as her legs threatened to give out on her. Tears fell down her face as she tried to remember doing that, but all she recalled was a blank. "Why would I do that?"
Sarah felt her heart break for her friend, she knew Tahlia well enough to know that her reaction was genuine, no one was this good of an actress. "You told him that you didn't love him. That your heart belonged to someone else."
This information brought Tahlia to her knees as they buckled, she slid down to the floor, sitting against the lockers. "I said I didn't love him? How could I say that to him? He's the only one I have ever loved." Her tears fell freely now, she looked up at her friend with a desperate gaze. "What's going on with me, Sarah?"
"I don't know, but we've got to find Caleb and Pouge, they'll help us figure it out. Okay?"
Tahlia nodded, "Can you find them and bring them to the pool? I need to go clear my head, see if I can remember something."
"Of course, I'll go find them right now."
Despite her not wanting to leave her friend, she knew she need to find Caleb and Pouge quickly. So nodding to Tahlia, Sarah took off down the hall towards the parking lot where she would find the guys.
Tahlia stood up, still reeling from what Sarah had told her, as much as she wanted to go with her, she needed to clear her head. The best way she knew how to do that was to swim, it helped sort out her thoughts and clear her mind so that she could think straight.
So after going to the locker room and changing into her suit, she pinned her hair up and slipped the cap over her head. Placing her goggles over her eyes, Tahlia dove into the water and started swimming laps. Again just like the first time, she heard Cade's voice in her head chanting, his voice and words washing over her sending all of her previous thoughts away. By the time she climbed out of the pool, she could only remember Cade, nothing of her previous conversation with Sarah.
After climbing out of the pool, Tahlia went back to the locker room to shower, after which she got dressed and walked back towards the front of the school. She found Cade awaiting her with a smile, she greeted him with a kiss on her lips just as Sarah, Caleb and Pouge ran up to meet her.
"Tahlia, we were just coming to meet you." Sarah said as she looked up at her friend, who stood happily on the steps, her arm around Cade's waist.
"Meet me for what?" Tahlia asked, not having a clue what the girl was referring to.
"Our conversation, not more than ten minutes ago." Sarah was thrown, she had just talked to Tahlia and now the girl was acting as if she had no idea.
Tahlia looked down at the trio with a confused look, "We didn't have a conversation. I have to go, I'll see you around." She said walking past them with Cade, not even a look over at Pouge as she passed. "Caleb, maybe you should take your girlfriend to the doctor, I think she might be sick."
Sarah was floored, she swore she had just talked to Tahlia ten minutes prior and she had been devastated when she found out what she had done to Pouge. But now here they stood, watching her again walk away with Cade, acting as if she barely knew any of them. Sarah let out a sigh, "I swear Caleb, I just spoke with her and she was devastated. What is going on here?"
Caleb shook his head, he was at a complete loss, he didn't know what to say or do to fix this. "I don't know." He ran a hand over his face as he thought, what could be causing this reaction in Tahlia. "Where did you say you left her?"
"She was by her locker, she was sitting on the floor in tears." Sarah told him. "I told her we needed to find and Pouge, so we could fix whatever this was."
"Did she say she was going anywhere, tell you to meet her somewhere?"
"The pool, she said she needed to clear her head, told me to get you guys and meet her at the pool."
Something flashed across Pouge's face, he was truly starting to think that there was more going on here than just a change of Tahlia's heart. "Yesterday before she broke up with me." Pouge said wincing a little at his own words, "She wanted to tell us something about Cade, but after she came out of the pool, she said nothing was wrong."
"You think that the pool could be doing something to her?" Sarah asked, knowing what she did about their powers now, nothing seemed farfetched in her eyes.
"Not the pool," Caleb said shaking his head, a thought coming over him. "Whoever is doing this to her, could have put a spell on it. There more time she spends in the water, the more the spell affects her."
"So, if we could keep her out of the water, she wouldn't be affected by it?" Sarah asked.
Caleb nodded, "I think so, but that won't be easy, she has practice everyday until the competition after Christmas. Coach isn't going to let her miss any practices."
"Well then I guess we better get to researching, so after the championships, we can get her back." Pouge stated walking back to the vehicles with Sarah and Caleb following him.
The next months slid by slowly, it was a change for all of them not having Tahlia around. She had been staying with Cade more, barely coming to the house unless it was to change her clothes. Seeing her around school, her hand in Cade's sent a knife through Pouge's heart each time. Almost everyone at school could see the change in the rest of the Sons, without Tahlia around them they were cold, angry, snapping at everyone and everything.
They spent Thanksgiving dinner at the Danver's house, each of them sitting quietly around the table, their eyes sliding to Tahlia's empty chair in turn. Evelyn was particularly feeling her daughter's absence, having just got her back, she did not want to lose her again. She had quit drinking so heavily, now only having a glass of something with her dinner. She had been pouring through the books in the library along with the others, trying to find something about a spell to change ones heart.
They were by now convinced that Cade was using magic to turn Tahlia against them, he being the only one she shared her time with. They knew it had something to do with the prophecy, but they couldn't understand his motive behind it. As far as they all knew, there were no other covens with magic left besides theirs, so who was Cade? If he had powers, he wasn't using at all, as nothing odd had happened nor been felt by the Sons themselves.
By the time Christmas had come and gone the Sons, along with Evelyn and Sarah were falling into a pit of despair. They had gone through every book in the household, library at school and local bookstore searching fro anything that would help them. But so far they had found nothing. They were beginning to believe they had lost Tahlia forever.
Although Caleb had given them all something that had their spirits rising some. "If the pool is the source of the spell, then our best shot at getting Tahlia back will be at the championships."
"Why's that?" Sarah questioned.
"Because they're being held at Hasting's, not here. If Cade placed the spell on Spencer's pool, he won't have time to transfer the spell to their pool. The water will be pure, and by the time the meet is over…"
"The spell should wear off of Tahlia." Pouge finished for him.
"And that's when we get her back." Caleb finished.
