Disclaimer: Chapter 1
Okay, so luckily for me, the school year is basically over, we're just prepping for graduation. I have been writing ideas down for this story when I think of them, but I always appreciate ideas in reviews. I hope to be able to update frequently throughout the summer-at least until I'm getting ready to leave for college (mid/end of August).
Droolia: When I was little I was always around my cousin who is 9 years older than me and she watched the show all the time. And my mom watched it a few times as well. I was really shocked with my roommate knowing the show because I talk about GG in front of my friends and they're just like..."I never even heard of it", but my roommate was like "Yeah! I love that show, Friends too" definitely happy with that.
Grumpy Guest: "What is wrong with this guy not putting any effort into anything more complicated than an order for a stack of pancakes"- one of my favorite reviews on any of the fics I've written.
Nzlouise: At the time I said no to any pregnancies because I had a few stories up in which Lorelai was pregnant or had recently had a child, so I felt it was a bit overboard. However, since I took them down in order to re-write them, anything is possible now. But I love your ideas and I really do want to try an incorporate them in some way.
In honor of June 3rd I figured I'd post some chapters today. First up: LL based chapter.
Chapter 10
Lorelai searched high and low in her house looking for anything to show Lucy that Luke does care for her, but she was coming up empty. Did she really not have anything? She kept looking though because she knew there had to be something. Lorelai already had one photo album ready in case Lucy asked for proof of Luke loving Lorelai-their wedding album and video, she just needed proof of Luke loving Lucy.
Coming up with nothing, Lorelai decided, in one last desperate attempt, to look in her closet. She thought that maybe there was a box hidden of old memories. That's when she found it. Lucy's baby box. It held several items, sonogram/ultrasound pictures, everyone's hospital bracelets from Lucy's birth, photos of the day Lucy was born. Surely this had to have some effect on the girl. Granted Lorelai knew her daughter wouldn't be able to fully grasp the objective of why everything holds meaning.
Though she succeeded in finding what she was looking for, Lorelai would have to wait a little longer to show Lucy since Rory had just called her about visiting Emily and Richard who Lucy wanted to stay over night with. At first Lorelai was against it considering this would be the first night she was alone since everything started with Luke many months ago, but in the end let her daughter stay with her grandparents so someone in the family could be happy...and so she could buy herself more time in finding an explanation for Lucy.
Lorelai sat on the couch going through Lucy's baby box when there was a knock at the door. Placing the box on the table, Lorelai slowly got up and made her way to the door. When she opened it, she was shocked to see the silloute of Luke. She stood with the door open, staring at Luke with arched eyebrows.
"I want to figure everything out," was blurted out.
Lorelai opened the door fully, allowing Luke enough space to walk in. Both made their way into the living room. Sitting down on the couch, Luke noticed the box.
"What's all of this?"
Lorelai glanced at the coffee table as she sat down on the opposite end of the couch, away from Luke as she was still wary on trusting him. "I was looking through Lucy's baby box. I was trying to find anything to show her so she could see how much you really do love her." Lorelai looked at Luke just in time to catch a pained expression casting over her husband's face.
"I know I've been horrible, but I don't want her to hate me." Lorelai could hear the dread in his voice, the sadness that Luke tried to hide.
Grabbing his hands lightly, Lorelai made Luke look at her. "She does not hate you. She's just scared. I think this is her way of keeping herself from getting hurt. She's like her mother; shutting people out to avoid any pain. But Luke, she could never hate you. I know Lucy says you don't love her, but she knows that's not true. She's only four, she doesn't know everything that's going on. I promise you, no one hates you."
"How do I fix it? What can I do that she will actually allow me to do?"
"Luke, I'm here and I am going to help you. We're going to fix this together. Lucy and Rory are staying with my parents tonight because Emily and Richard wanted them to or something, so we have time to figure out what to do. I mean we can't just throw this on her..."
"No, then she really will hate me."
"Luke, Lucy doesn't hate you. No one hates you. Frustrated maybe, but not hate. Now, I have some beer in the fridge that we are going to drink while we finish looking through this box together then we'll figure out how to fix this."
Sometime late in the night, Luke and Lorelai were just finishing looking at all things Lucy. From her baby box to every picture they had documented of their little girl; with every picture, there was a specific memory. With the couple reliving the memories, their reminiscing took them well into the night.
It felt good to Lorelai for her to look back on old memories with the person she vowed to be with forever and it was then, where the two of them sat on the couch talking about each part of their daughter's life and personality, that Lorelai realized that she wouldn't have been able to go through a divorce with Luke. She wouldn't have been able to part ways with her soul mate, to only see him when their daughter was involved. And she knew that things were going to have to change so they could have a balanced family again.
But she couldn't help but question if she was forgiving Luke too soon. Sure she was still furious, and he had lost most of her trust that has yet to be won back, but she still couldn't shake the feeling that she was being too easy on him. Maybe he needed to go through some of the pain she endured over the course of the past half year? Lorelai knew she would never be able to do that to him, that he was already in enough pain as it was believing that Lucy hated him. And she definitely saw why he could believe that. Their daughter definitely inherited both of their stubbornness and when she was in a bad mood or not liking something, Lucy was cold, hard ice. That's why Lorelai was the buffer. She had to fix that gap between father and daughter because as much as it was killing Luke to be away from Lucy, it was killing Lorelai to have to witness her daughter acting out against her father.
"How about we talk about how to fix things with Lucy in the morning? It's getting late."
Luke began to get up from his place on the couch and toward the door. "Yeah, okay. Tomorrow then." But he was stopped when Lorelai grabbed his arm.
"Look, I know we're not back to us yet, and that I'm still a little frustrated, but this is technically your house too. And maybe you should start getting used to sleeping at home?" It was wishful thinking and worth the risk of anything that could come of it. Noticing the hesitant look on Luke's face, Lorelai quickly added, "nothing is going to happen, Luke. We're just going to be a married couple sleeping in the same bed, as most couples do. No funny business." With that reassurance, Luke followed Lorelai up to what will be known as their bedroom from now on.
A little fluff, but not everything is fixed. This is definitely not the end of the story or even close to it (I think, it depends on how the next few chapters play out). But I figure, you know June 3rd and everything
